    Nice job on the video. I have been looking at some of the Parker boats and they need to at date their line some of the storage areas need to be updated and the pilothouse needs it too.

      Hi Old Skool 63, (sounds like you an I are from the same 'time-span'!) Thank you for the kind words. I agree with your comments. To me, the Parker is a well-built boat, but is very 'bare-bones'; not even a catch-all to store basic items. One of my big issues with Parker is how they rely upon their dealer net work for almost all customer inquiries... That would not be so bad if they had decent dealers; I've had terrible experiences with 2 of the dealers, and one of those is the closest one to the factory!.Parker has recently been bought out by Master Craft. Maybe they will make some positive changes to the boats and the customer service.

    I miss-spoke about the anchor windlass; I didn't mean to say 'manual', I meant it is easy to change to 'power-down' instead of 'free-fall'. The waters around here are very shallow and we often anchor in 5'-12' feet of water. In 'free-fall' I end up with a pile of chain and rode tangled on the bottom; power down works best here. When we anchor in Cape Lookout Bight (aka Power Squadron Spit) it is deep enough to use it in 'free-fall' mode; same goes for in the ocean.

    Merry Christmas to you just like to get your thoughts on a 31 Bertram sport fish

    • @andrewfyakim525

      Hi Larry, thank you for watching!... Merry Christmas to you too! What year Bertram are you looking at? The older 31 "Moppie" Bertrams, owned and built by Dick Bertram were the first of the deep-V's and are known to be 'tanks' with bullet-proof hulls! They are very heavy, (require high HP engines) and are also 'wet' boats with little bow-flair to throw the water off the boat; but are a smooth ride and can bust through rough seas. There is in fact one of those docked at my neighbors house about 150 feet from my dock.... The 'new Bertrams, are Bertram in name only, They are designed by Bill Prince, are very expensive, and light weight. They are nothing like the old originals...

      Thanks for your reply yes I am looking at a 1969 Bertram sport fish model it has late model Cummins 370 hp diesels, upper and lower steering stations, and head with shower, and small gally owner says it is a 28-30 knot cruise and 34-35 top- wot. And raymarine electronics.love the classic lines and the simple way of the design

    • @andrewfyakim525
      @andrewfyakim525  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@larryjohnson5597 That is the same model as the one I mentioned that's docked near me. The 31 Bertrams are well-respected boats/hulls. I love the Cummings Diesels; they are 'forever' engines as long as you feed it clean air (easy to do on a boat!), clean fuel (hard to do on a boat) and clean oil (easy to do, especially with auto-oil-change- system like had on our Ford Lehman SP135... I don't know if the sellers 'numbers' are correct, but it's easily verified with a test rum. (30 knots is 34.5 mph... 35 knots is over 40 mph. it sounds a bit 'optimistic' to me ☺)... Like I mentioned, they are considered 'wet' boats, and I'll add a bit wobbly when sitting still due to the extremely deep-V. But then, that deep-V is why it can handle rough waters.... One more thing, with a 1969 boat. How are the fuel tanks? Are they original? Are they clean?

    • @larryjohnson5597
      @larryjohnson5597 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes thanks 🙏 the fule tank is the original 222 gallons it’s fiber glass in the boat Bertram used fiberglass tanks just like hatters, as far as being wet, any thoughts on spray rails, might help? Thanks 😊

    • @andrewfyakim525
      @andrewfyakim525  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@larryjohnson5597 The Bertram fiberglass fuel tanks are legendary for being the best fuel tanks, for Diesel fuel. Not so much for gas, especially bad for ethanol-gas. It's why I asked. Some boats with fiberglass tanks had gasoline engines, and the tanks got gummy from ethanol gas. Was this Bertam ever equipped with gas engine/engines? Not many, but some existed. Also, a lot of 31's had twin engines. Is the one you're looking at original to a single Diesel?.... As for spray rails, I'd say if you decide to got that route, I'd recommend against the 'glue-on' type, (They tend to be VERY temporary), and go with the thru-bolts, and use a lot of bolts. I think they would help in moderate conditions, but when it's really sloppy out there, it would still be a wet boat. They guy who has the one docked near me says he just accepts the fact that the Bertram will be 'wet', and forgives that because of all of the positive attributes. The boat is not 'wet' on calm days, and we do have some calm days out there too!... Did I mention that the 31 Bertram is a beautiful boat? Beautiful lines! At least to me....

    Andrew I am about to run some wiring in my boat; two antennas and spreader and anchor lights etc. any advice on techniques to run the new wiring? What was your experience? Mark Hanna

    • @andrewfyakim525
      @andrewfyakim525  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark, First, I'm sure you know, but be careful how you mount and seal the bolts and holes for antennas; any leak will eventually rot the coring in the roof (There's a lot about this on Classic Parker.com). Mine were leaking when I bought the boat, and had to to remove them, dry it out and re-bed them.... I was able to feed the wires from the buss-bar panel under the dash (from the cuddy cabin), and followed the wires aft on the starboard side to the removable plastic panel on the back bulkhead of the pilothouse. (I removed the helm seat to make access easier, and almost removed to helm seat pedestal, be instead squeezed by it. Then up overhead (using an electricians 'snake'). I also pulled extra wires and string and left them in there for possible future needs. The 2013/2014 Parkers have a raised channel that runs down the center of the ceiling/overhead from the forward area where my overhead electronics are located, and then it 'T's" across the back where the raised area extends to both sides. (You can see this raised area on the roof in a lot of my videos). There is one round access port in the ceiling. Before getting started I first removed the ceiling access port and the aft plastic cover on the starboard aft corner of the pilothouse. (Those covers do not go all the way to the floor; they stop at seat-level). Once everything was opened it was just a matter of running the wires, on foot at a time. It would have been MUCH easier if I had waited for someone to help feed the wires..... I will try to remember to take a short video of what I'm describing here in case I'm not being clear.... I hope you enjoy your Parker as much as I am, and hope you can have her on the water soon (When the ice melts up there in Michigan! ☺)

      @@andrewfyakim525 Hi Andy-
      I would like to see that video on wiring. Did you see the latest two videos from 'on the reef', he is really unhappy with the boat because of a manufacturing flaw. Check it out. Thank you, Mark Hanna

    • @andrewfyakim525

      @@markhanna4511 Hi Mark, I saw "On the Reef's" video a number of times (I followed all of his videos, even before this happened), and I have read every 'comment' on both ClassicParker.com and The Hull Truth. There is no doubt he got a bad boat that should never have left the factory. It is the first time I have ever seen and/or heard about serious manufacturing flaws in ANY Parker boat. I'm am sure Linwood and Robin (daughter) Parker are embarrassed about it all, and I hope they resolve it to his satisfaction. I also think that we are not getting the whole story, from 'both ends', as it seems Parker offered a new boat. (I understand the 'color' issues and the 'not all original equipment' issue, but that could have been negotiated.... I myself would not have accepted a the offer to 'repair' it, but then I can assure you, I would have noticed those issues up front and I would have walked away from it before buying it. (The crooked door was Soooo obvious!). I was also surprised that On the Reef spent so much time (months)and $$$ adding equipment to the boat; I would think he noticed these flaws while he was working on the boat?? I know I would have at least noticed the cat-e-wonkered door!.... Parker is doing FAR more than I experienced with my previous 2 boats. I bought a new Albin 27 in Cos Cob, CT in 1983. (me in North Carolina)... the boat had issues. Albin told me to 'bring it back' for the repairs, knowing full well I would not/could not do so.... In 1987 we bought a 35' CT Sundeck trawler in Deltaville, VA... it too had 'issues' (a lot of new boats have issues)... I again was told to bring it back to Deltaville for the repairs; that is a three day trip even when the Albemarle Sound and Chesapeake Bay are calm. So again, like with the Albin, I paid a LOT of money to fix my new boat; it was my best option, and of course the boat companies offered NOTHING!... I think Parker will offer to do the right thing for On the Reef.

    Hi Andrew-I have another question, what make and length was the drink holder with the storage box on the inside of the door. I cannot get to my boat to measure, and I would like to order one. Also, would you recommend the one you have? Thank you again. Mark Hanna

    • @andrewfyakim525
      @andrewfyakim525  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark, yes I'd recommend it highly; it was $ pricey $ but I don't mind spending $$ on my boats! It is very sturdy, (all Starboard with s/s fasteners) and I have it through-bolted to the door.... I'll get the measurements and post them here; or you can send me your email if you feel safe with that (I don't get many 'hits' on my videos!)...

    Regarding the storage hatches under jump seats, did you consider reversing hatch so that it opens downward? I now own a 2520 xl sc, but I cannot get to work on it till spring. Your thoughts on the hatch reversal?

    • @andrewfyakim525
      @andrewfyakim525  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark, sorry for re-answering your question. I answered you in some other place, and wanted to also answer it here. Your idea for reversing the hatches is a good idea and some others have had success with that. For me, the reversed hatch would lay down and be in my way accessing inside the locker.

      Hi Matthew Aviation, thank you for the comment. I too think the deck (did you mean the forward deck?) is small. If you mean the cockpit, it is considered by many to be a large cockpit area for a boat of this size. But when compared to my other boats, I agree it is small....

      The Parker 2520 XLD has the largest cockpit in its class. Yes it is small compared to large off-shore 'battle-wagons', but it is relatively large for such a small boat.

    I guess you haven't watched any of the videos posted by " outonthereef " where PARKER knowingly sold a bad crooked boat to an unsuspecting user. If I were you, I would start measuring my boat to see if it were plum or better yet spend a few bucks and get it surveyed before signing praises for Parker. Yes Parker got cought by a very savvy consumer but who knows how many times they got away with it before. Boaters beware. The y certainly lost me as a customer for a 25ft pilothouse.

    • @andrewfyakim525
      @andrewfyakim525  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi A?IA, Thank you for watching my video and thank you for commenting... I'm not sure why you would guess that I haven't watched any of "Out On The Reef's" videos? I think most all Parker owners have followed the issue... I was subscribed to "Out On The Reef" from the beginning; before he bought his Parker. "Out On The Reef" is one of my favorite TH-cam channels to watch; he does a great job with his camera work, and with his boat up-grades. He is an experienced boat handler and navigator; crossing to the Bahamas in a small power boat takes a lot of planning, knowledge and a sharp eye to the weather; and a sturdy boat... I have been boating since the 1950's, and have owned over 18 boats ranging from small skiffs to a 35' (LOA 40') CT Sundeck Trawler (plus 27' Albin, 22' cuddy, 15' skiffs, etc). Most of those boats I bought new, and there were problems with all of them. I bought the Albin in Cos Cob CT in 1984. When I had significant mechanical problems with the boat, Albin told me to bring it back to them for repairs. (I live in North Carolina). I bought the 35' CT in 1987. When I had issues with this new boat, Walt Higason with Cardinal Marine Sales at Dozier Dockyard in Deltaville Virginia, told me to bring it back for repairs, knowing full well I couldn't/wouldn't do so. I've followed the "Out On The Reef" issue on his TH-cam, also on ClassicParker.com, and on The Hull Truth, Bloody Decks, Tidal Fish, etc.... There is much to the story. No doubt "Out On The Reef" got a miss-manufactured boat. After all the dust has settled, he decided to keep the boat. I don't know I would have done the same. I was surprised he bought the boat in that condition; the crooked door is very visible. But in 1987 I too missed a number of flaws in the 35'CT, so I am not being judgmental .... This is my first Parker boat. I have many friends that have owned Parkers for 20+ years. The issue with "Out On The Reef's" boat is the first time I have heard of a serious issue with a Parker boat. And like most Parker owners who have followed the story, I did take a tape measure to my boat; no issues with this boat.... If you are seriously in the market for a small pilothouse boat like "Out On the Reef" or like mine there are a number of other manufacturers to chose from. Judge. Defiant. C-Hawk. Parker. Maycraft. Shamrock. Albin... I am happy with my Parker boat, but don't get me wrong. I am NOT happy with Parker's dealerships. If you watched some of my other videos and read the comments, you will see why.

      I'm buying a new 2021 2520 and guess what, there's some issues i see already. Carpet coming unglued in the pilothouse and V berth and another issue in the pilothouse. I'm still buying the boat. I'm not a fan of the carpet anyway, i may pull it all off and give it a nice paint job. I'm not going to whine about it and make Parker tickle me fancy over petty stuff. Every boat have issues either you can live with it. or complain about it. Out on The Reef dude, just named his boat after the design flaw, Crooked Pilothouse Boat. Now that's classic. But his boat has character, didn't seem to bother him. He took a 21' pilothouse and turned it into a 40' Sportfisher. Just waiting to see him add a Tuna tower and second station to it,
