27:15 As to the questioning of how Carmilla has kids, there's a pretty simple explanation you seem to be missing: She could've had her kids in life, then they all fell to hell upon death, finding each other in the Pride ring.
Either that, or adoption. Both are kind of sweet
I’m personally leaning more towards the former because there definitely is a resemblance between the three, and so far the only other Sinners we’ve seen who look that much alike are Angel and his immediate family. But like you said, either is pretty sweet.
I believe she's a fallen seraphims/angel.
@@fennek1nviking There's no evidence to support that
@@fennek1nviking That's wrong, she's just weapons dealer overlord, a sinner, nothing more.
Velvette knew right away Carmilla had something to do with the dead angel and the whole song was Vel's way of getting her riled up and tricking her into thinking she was just being arrogant, only to back her into a corner at the end, forcing her to end the meeting making her even more suspicious. Vel is low key a genius. Also, Zestial is voiced by the same guy who plays Asmodeus. Thought you'd like to know that. Finally, Alastor's voice getting more distorted doesn't necessarily mean he's lying, it's an indicator of him being more sinister. He really did find the eggs useful because of the information Frank got.
Yeah, Velvette is my favorite of the Vees for this reason.
Velvette is frighteningly shrewd and she isn't lying about being the backbone of the Vees. She plays up being rash, shallow and stupid to try and goad others into making mistakes. And before she sensed a weak link in Carmilla she was trying to antagonize everyone into going to war with heaven. Bear in mind she did jackshit during the actual extermination. I suspect she wanted others to do the dirty work for her and if they ended up dying her and the boys could capitalize on the power vacuum that results.
I find it amazing how so many people miss that because there's a _long_ reaction shot of Velvette noticing that Carmilla was doing her damndest to avoid looking at the head. Granted, this is Arier, who I believe has mentioned that he has ADD or ADHD so it makes sense for him to miss that because he was focusing on something else.
Frank is the MVP
@@9Godslayer A lot of people just want to hate her because she's being arrogant, but that whole scene is there, quite literally, to show how smart and observant she is. It took her just a single moment to realize what was going on and cast doubt on Carmilla.
You think losing 16% of the total population isnt a big deal: but thats more than what the Soviet Union lost in WW2, 13% was still over 20 million dead when you look at Military and civilian deaths combined. So to put it in perspective: a WW2's worth of dead in a single week
I think it was actually in a single day, which is even crazier in terms of sheer carnage.
@@williamharmon4039yea I was just about to say I think it’s in a single day
Loosing 10% of your fighting strength usually means disaster in a battle as well. In the age of open combat armies would start an uncontrolled rout at that point. There is a reason why decimation was such a harsh punishment in Rome.
This should be pinned, cause that really puts it into perspective!
Weird thing is, at some point the angels mention they had barely over 300 kills (which they consider a great outcome). Now, that may be 300 million (which seems too much for the number of exorcist angels we see), but even then the number is quite low for supposedly 16% of sinners.
I think you might have missed something. Alastor has been gone for 7 years. Zestial was bringing up that rumors of him dying to angels started to spread
And the fact that he ain't the only one who's been missing for seven years
'Falling to enemy arms' is also sometimes used to mean 'switching sides'. Falling to their embrace rather than their weapons. Given that Alastor wants attention, and no one saw him, or found a body, for 7 years... There is an implication that someone broke a rule they weren't supposed to, and Alastor spent the time somewhere that the rest of Hell couldn't follow.
2:34 Remember back in Helluva Boss when Moxxie is talking about Striker's gun and he calls it a" Genuine Carmine crafted blessed tip rifle"? THIS is the Carmine he was talking about. Carmilla Carmine, top(and probably only) weapons dealer in hell. And yes, she's an Overlord too.
5:52 Yes, his distortion goes away when he's being sincere
18:55 Yeah Carmilla sometimes speaks Spanish, though it's often just a word or two or an expression. Vaggie does this too at times.
To this day, Respectless remains my favorite song in the show. It shows two very different points of view but both of them have a lot of merit. The Vees could potentially organize a strike against the angels, between the three of them they have more than enough souls to create a massive army. But at the same time, that would invite destruction unto hell which is exactly what Carmilla and Zestial are trying to avoid. Not to mention that it's unclear if the angels are stronger in heaven or not
25:33 God I just LOVE when that guitar starts when Carmilla sings. Her Latino inspiration is so GOOD
17:17 In hell, no. What's more likely is that her kids died with her and they all became sinners at the same time.
27:50 I mean, he has a point. Consensual BDSM requires A LOT of trust
32:40 It's an expression of frustration
33:37 Recognize his voice yet?
34:26 It's not that she's not proud, it's that she doesn't want to exacerbate the situation and potentially invite destruction into her home.
35:58 So you know how Stolas is best dad in hell? Welp...meet best MOM in hell!
I can’t believe it took me so long to recognize that Zestial and Asmodeus have the same voice actor!
@@Cepterman It's easier to tell during his song number when he doesn't have the filter on his voice
@@CeptermanThey do? Wow.
The whole swamp thing in Alistor's room is because he's from Louisianan, so it makes him feel at home.
And I took the odd look on Zestial to be more him reacting in surprise to the way it seemed like she was including him in the "people she wants to protect" she was singing about.
Airier just downplaying how many millions of people got killed in a single extermination. 16% of all sinners getting erased is a a big deal, especially if it keeps happening every 6 months. Hell would get empty pretty quickly at those rates
The fact you've been keeping yourself spoiler free up to this point is a damn miracle and something to be commended.
Also no, she's the one supplying angelic metal augmented weapons. Look to the rifle and knife striker had in helluva boss.
In Episode 5, Moxxie says that the rifle Striker had was *Carmine-Crafted*
@@thenullz0ne. exactly my point.
@@thenullz0ne.
Right, and this overlord is named Carmilla Carmine.
What is strange that while she can supply imps and have her own angelic weapons and it is shown that they literally are left behind by angels every year, she claims later that "angelic steel is not easy to come by"... seems pretty easy to me.
@@richardkutsera4992Most likely, in relation to other weapons, there are fewer angelic weapons. It is also likely that Carmila collects almost all the angelic weapons every year.
"She just wants to jump on a trend that she doesn't know how to replicate."
Hadn't noticed it at first, but you're right. How very on brand for the social media demon!
Velvette's attitude and energy is everything. She truly does earn the title "Backbone of the Vees". She's easily the most intelligent and competent of the three. Very good at manipulating things as well if her song is any indication. Makes you wonder how much of her bluster is actually said with actual belief and how much she says just to get the reaction she wants.
27:20 Apparently the children went to hell with their mother
Family forever.
Idk why you thought Alistor was lying when he said the eggs were useful lol. They literally told him info he wanted to know.
Lol this.
maybe bc he was witholding information too of why he didn't get rid of them, but that's just a guess, I was kind of thinking that too, would've been a good detail if alastor became more static when lying
Can we all just agree that Zestial is truly the best? Everything about his is so perfect c’:
He definitely got my interest right off the bat.
Edit: Just noticed the pun, but I don't have it in me to change it. 😅
He’s probably my second favorite Overlord after Alastor, he has such an awesome design and I love his 17th century Shakespearean-dialect! From the way the other denizens and sinners of Hell reacted around them, I’d say that both Zestial and Alastor are two of the most feared Overlords in all of Hell
@@AirierAlso James Monroe Iglehart is the voice of Zestial
@noahschultz9031 I think zestial IS just the fear demon. He has parts of the most feared animal, like spiders, bats and a bit of scarecrow. Also he is very old and fear is the oldest emotion.
@@noahschultz9031 Zestial still the most feared i think, Alastor bring less reaction when he is around
No sinners can't have kids. But that doesn't mean kids can't go to hell.
Pretty sure sinners CAN have kids. There's way too many kids in episodes 6 and 7 for them all to have died so young.
sinners can0t but helloborn can
@DanGamingFan2846 lots of people die young, yeah. Sinners canonically cannot have kids.
@@riccardomosena4162 Then explain...
Spoiler Alert:
The sinner child in episode 6. No way he did anything that bad at that age to get stuck in Hell.
@@DanGamingFan2406It’s been speculated that the cannibals are actually Hellborn, and thus would be able to reproduce. Can’t verify this, though.
That, and I am fairly certain it has been confirmed that children can become Sinners upon death. There do exist some very shitty kids. Remember Eddie from the _Helluva Boss_ pilot? There’s no *way* that piece of shit ascended.
Camilla is the name that usually pops up next to Dracula the woman you are actually thinking of was named Elizabeth Bathory
Ah, yeah. Good catch.
Also the name of an early vampire novel by J Sheridan LeFanu.
Carmilla daughters I believe were hers in life. And they all died around the same time. Likely due to the family business of being a weapons dealer. She and her daughters were likely killed by gang violence and cause they helped their mother are in hell too.
Carmilla feels responsible and doesn't want to lose them for good. So she's trying to keep it a secret to avoid all out war where they have a good chance of being erased.
Velvet is also very intelligent and observant. She's arrogant and loud but she took note of Carmilla. She saw her responses to the Angel and knew she was aware. She tried to get her to act out and proved her point. No confirmation but she took note. She plays the ditsy type but is smart. Which is rather terrifying. She's cunning and manipulative.
The general theory is Carmilla's kids are adopted.
Also pay attention to line where she says "Keep you safe." She's not looking at the kids. She's looking at Zestiel. Which he has a strong reaction to. I think they've been friends for a while, but this is the first time he realised that she genuinely cares for him, and considers him family too.
It's been theorized that Carmilla was probably involved in a cartel when she was alive, and her daughters were involved in the family business when they died. So they all ended up in Hell together. (Or, it's possible she adopted them after the fact, which is also oddly heartwarming).
27:45 The funny thing is, people into BDSM can confirm Angel is actually 100% right.
Yup.
Of course THEY would confirm it.
@@colt1903 but can you deny it if you have not experienced it?
@@yogurtofthemultiverse2200 Yes, because I have trust issues in the first place.
@@colt1903 Then you can't say one way or another lol, because you wouldn't be in it to begin with
36:25 I think he is confused because she includes him in her "I'l keep you safe." Most of the Overlords respect Zestial, but for Carmilla he is someone closer than just her senior overlord. He is probably closest person to her, aside from her daughters, and generaly not bad dude. If I remember corectly in one of the old stream Vivzie said few things that Carmilla doesnt like, and one of them was "Others disrespecting Zestial".
39:28 it actually isn’t. It’s been that way ever since the pilot. And if you want more proof that this isn’t the first time we see that angelic thing in the sky, look at the scene in episode two where Vox causes a city wide blackout. It is clearly right there and you just missed it.
A little clarification (don't worry no spoilers) sinners can't have kids but they could have had kids while they were alive who went to hell after they died aswell
Considering that adoption exists it realy shoudn't be a big deal.
They probably can now
Was an arms dealer in life too, her daughters were working with her in life too, they all died in one big explosion? Could be that easy.
Something subtle to note about zestial (also say bestial with a z intead of a b)
When he sings he matches the persons style hes singing too
A soul whose been around as long as he has(low estimate is 400 year because of dialect) has to be able to adapt
Alastor's 7-year absence hasn't been explained as of the Season 1 finale, though there are theories and implications from what we've been told. Zestial's comment about how people suspected Alastor had fallen to holy weaponry were because he's basically dropped off the face of Hell 7 years ago, and someone with an ego like Alastor's wouldn't just vanish without some kind of spectacle.
Lucifer has the _power_ to kill an angel, but part of the deal regarding Extermination Day is that he can't do anything to stop the Exorcists from killing Sinners; in return, Hellborn demons are exempt from the attacks.
Funny thing is... even if Angel Dust's suggestion of BDSM as a trust exercise is being played as a joke, he's still _right._ In a healthy relationship involving those sorts of activities, both sides are respective of the boundaries and well-being of their partner.
I believe it's still canon that Sinners can't have children. It's likely that Carmilla's daughters are her actual daughters and the three of them had all ended up in Hell after dying.
Heaven seems to be in the same realm, just separated by a wide gap that you can't really cross without flying or using magic portals.
sinners can't have children but hellborn can
36:13 The face Zestial makes when Carmilla looks at him and sings the line “I’ll keep you safe” is beyond cute. I hope it is a hint at them having some kind of feelings for each other.
That actually would be kinda cute!
Not gonna do an Underverse and write a two-mile-long comment, but I just wanna point out that both Alastor and Vox can modulate their voice filters! They can switch the filter on and off whenever they please. Vox only uses it when trying to intimidate, while Alastor probably has it on all the time to show his own prescence.
I love the Egg Bois, they remind me of the Minions from Despicable Me🙂 Fun fact Airer if you’re reading this, Carmilla Carmine is actually where Helluva Boss’s Striker got all of his Angelic weapons from, it’s the weapons he tortured Stolas with in Season two because they’re the only known weapons that can harm Demon royalty. And the rifle Moxxie found in Striker’s debut episode was specifically called a “Carmine Crafted Blessing-Tipped Rifle” meaning Striker bought most of his weapons from her because he’s a hitman that targets high-ranking figures in Hell for a living.
Sinners can't have children in hell (and probably heaven, too).
But they were humans once. Therefore, if they were a parent in life, they are very likely to meet their children again in the afterlife (as long as all go to the same afterlife and in hell's case, as long as the parent isn't cleansed before their children die), if they didn't already manifest in the afterlife together due to dying roughly at the same time e.g. in a plane crash or a car accident.
15:00 "holy 'arms'" not necessarily weapons... Still not confirmed in the cannon.
Ah, so Carmila's hands might even count?
@@Airier No
What Zestial ment by "holy arms" is that everyone thought that Alastor got slain during one of the exorcist raids on hell with how long he has been away.
I believe it is arms as in armaments, meaning military weapons and equipment.
Genuinely it's kind of funny how pathetic the overlords actually are compared to Little Miss Sunshine Charlie.
Because everyone is below her in raw power
I know I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but I'm hoping we get to see how strong she is later.
MY LIPS ARE SEALED .PS JUST NOTIC MY CAPS IS LOCKED ON LOL@@Airier
Yeah and she is daughter to both Lucifer, a former Archangel, and Lilith, the one who empowers demons in hell with her song... and yet just because she does not show her power, nobody respects her. Kind of dumb...from like, everyone in Hell.
@@Airier I mean the list of political power is equal to raw power and charlie is second only to lucifer so
The main theory is that his voice gets clearer the more genuine his attitude towards what he is saying is.
Am I the only one who finds it really funny how many people get thrown by Carmilla having daughters just because Sinners become infertile when they go to Hell? Angel has siblings, so your family in life have a chance to reunite and recognize each other once in Hell, especially if they died together. Menopausal women can still be mothers, they just had the children /before/ they lost fertility.
I love Airier for knowing the lore and trying to piece together everything and pay attention to all the details, but I've seen that particular one be a sticking point so often for people who do know the lore. People focus too much on them as Sinners and forget they had a whole life before getting there.
Whole families can wind up in Hell. Angel Dust has a father and brother in hell((his mother and sister are in heaven)). I figured that whatever Carmilla did in life her daughter's were involved and when they all died they all wound up in hell. They just continued the family dynamic in a new place.
27:17 No, Sinners can't reproduce. This is a rare case where a family is reunited together in Hell (I personally theorize that they all died together, and Carmilla probably blames herself for getting her daughters killed, which would explain why she's so adamantly protective of them in the afterlife).
34:56 Funny you compare Zestial's characterization to Ozzy- they're both voiced by James Monroe Iglehart!
27:44 i’m sorry, but he’s not wrong- 😂😭 There needs to be a very trusting relationship to engage in BDSM with someone. It does form strong trust and boundaries
Poor Airier strikes me as too Vanilla for this 😂❤ but at the same time, yeah that’s not something you just randomly talk to someone about 😭💀 you have to know the person and know if they would be comfortable hearing it. Not everyone wants to hear about it lmao
Talking to someone about it who has expressed no interest and is uncomfortable about it is considered a violation of consent.
Always find it interesting that of the sinners in the hotel, Sir Pentious is the oldest but seems the most naive. By oldest, I do mean dead the longest (45 years more than Alaator, the second oldest).
From my understanding, Camilla's daughters are hers, and they all died on earth at about the same time. Also, Vaggie's VA is the same as Marbella from Encanto, and she has some damn good range
Carmilla always had her kids, it’s that she’s the reason her kids are in hell now and her goal is to keep them safe from the extermination at all cost which is where you were wrong, that Carmilla, the angelic weapon dealer, is pretty obviously the one who killed the angel.
For context, no Sinners can not have children, so Carmilla's children also went to hell after they died (considering how they all appear, i would say they probably all died at the same time... potentially in a weapon-based accident or during war or something since Carmilla is an arms dealer in Hell).
Makes you wonder what happened to the father. If he goes to hell and is killed by an angel, or instead goes to heaven
9:50 He _did_ in the Pilot
When they got back to the hotel
14:27 :)
I always think the way his eyes widen when he first sees Zestial I took as a mixed reaction instead of excitement like some say (Like on first watch before the conversation started I thought he was scared/nervous. Just everything from the eyes widening, side glance without turning to the eggs at first, then warning them to be silent).
oh I didn't take it as _dying_ to holy weapons specifically
15:48 He did exactly with pose in the Pilot
(18:17 maybe neutral)
22:02 Yooo
22:52 OH! _That's_ when she noticed!
27:40 I mean, that's _fair_ . Put the traffic light system in your interactions
(Which other guy?)
(36:35 wait is it confusion)-- WAIT ZESTIAL'S FACE?
42:08 I mean if she told me to take over--that sounded like a literal nightmare
43:49 I think it's the more nefarious thing, because they _were_ rather useful to him
I don't know if anyone said anything but there are 2 versions of the Wendigo the Algonquian version and bastardized version. Both are similar in creation as they have humans eating other humans. The difference is that the Algonquian is still humanoid without animal traits. The bastardized version is the British combining the werewolf with the Wendigo giving it deer skull and animal traits.
I've taken to calling the bastardised version a "westigo", cuz it got mutated by Western culture. ("West" by the other continet's perspective, at least.)
also on the 36:33 part
it might not be a look of confusion or at least not the one you think it is
Zestial and Carmilla have know each other for ages to the point that they come to the defense of each other
Carmilla thinks of Zestial as family so shes also scare of loosing him
his confusion could be because shes including him in the part of the song where shes talking about protecting
also reminder that Vaggies VA is also the lead character in Encanto
Wait, Vaggies VA did WHAT!?
This is actually the first I heard of it. Does explain the incredible music number. 😯
@@Airier for more of a mine screw shes also Detective Rosa Diaz in Brooklyn 99
I actually agree with bondage in that fashion. It's a display of trust from me to my partner.
Also to better pronounce Zest's name just think Zest-tea-el. Like lemon zest.
2:50 Thankfully no. Although I'm sure she's down there somewhere.
16:30 It's been theorized Zestial is one of the remnants of the Pride Ring's native species before Sinners started to appear. At the very least, he's very, very old.
9:47 Angels regularly leave their weapons after a extermination. The pilot shows them being collected by camella’s daughters right after in order to procure the metal within it to create angelic weapons like the ones striker uses for demon royalty.
Vaggie likely got one from after a extermination so she could be a actual threat to other sinners.
"You have a giant X over your eye and a wielded angelic spear, it's not a rocket science"
it's surprising you can keep yourself spoiler free, you might wanna finish this series quick before all of youtube is only hazbin hotel clips and theory videos
Worse. My wife is also a fan. She's watching those same videos too. 😅
"Is that Heaven?" - Fun fact, in Catholicism one of the tortures of Hell is that you can see heaven and so see the eternal reward you could have had.
@Airier 33:12 They can't. Those are Carmilla's daughters from when they were all still alive.
Carmella had kids as a human, they just all 3 ended up in hell
I think you missed the fact Alastor himself was actually quite nervous in Zestial's presence
It's weird that Carmilla didn't think to bury the angel or something 😂
Because it was the middle of an extermination and if any other angels saw her burying one of them she'd get swarmed.
Because no one bury's bodies it'd be weirder if they did, [redacted] prob got the first memorial in hell
@@TFoxhound They meant to hide it I'm pretty sure. Not out of respect lol
They were in the middle of an Extermination.
She probably would have gotten rid of the body if there weren't a bunch of other angels around who would be especially pissed to see her dragging an angel corpse.
Honestly it makes sense Zestial is being very careful with what he's doing, just look at the little info we have of him from this episode.
1. Alastor seems genuinely scared of him which insists he's very powerful.
2. He's referred to as ancient by Alastor and his way of talking shows he's centuries old, likely being an overlord for most of that time.
3. Being that old also means he's seen dozens, if not hundreds of overlords rise and fall so he knows how easy it can be to lose your power and how important making the right choices is.
Combine that info and you get why Carmilla says nobody disrespects Zestial, even in a room of powerhouses he's the most high regarded due to his intellect, experience and strength. Him being careful comes purely from experience and seeing the consequences of rushing a decision like that
I think that she had the kids when she was alive.
13:56 there is speculation that "holy arms" might not necessarily mean weaponry, but that doesn't really pan out with alastor being asexual...
"he turned me into a newt"
.....
"I got better"
fun fact if you look back at the original pilot during the intro song after the last purge you will see Carmilla’s daughters gathering up angelic weapons.
i dont think alastor's radio filter going away means anything, i think he controls it somehow. also, vivzie did say that the audio team drops the filter a tad when they want his voice to really stand out so we dont miss important information.
To be honest, when reacting to a song you shouldn't stop & start it. Because you are losing the beat & flow, it will damage your enjoyment as well as misinterpreting the lyric. You should listen to it all once then go back to the part you want to discuss
Sinners can’t have children, just the Hellborne which I assume also includes Overlords who were born in hell (not the manifested or the sinners climbing up the Overlord status ladder)
Imps included too
8:30 Vaggie’s eyes also glowed pink in the pilot when she and Angel entered the hotel.
Personally I read the Carmilla and Vaggie scene as they were actually the same as opposed to opposites. They both want to protect the ones they love, and will do whatever it takes, even if atm that form seems different, they both end at the same place. They both are fighting for their love and the ones they consider family. Carmilla, her daughters and Vaggie, is Charlie. I think at this point Vaggie is the armor but by the end she will need to become a weapon for her. Carmilla had to make that choice already.
They've been using the little chibi models for far away shots since the pilot, always thought it was a cute choice
“I think nifty is more likely to commit murder than Alastor.”
Season finale be like
😯🤣👍
20:50 - _"I don't think he can keep anything shut....I know what I said & I stand by it."_
26:57 - _"I just realized if it's not just Charlie breaking out in song... Then Hell is a musical. I fully agree with the statement."_
LOL
During the song, my belief is that Zestial's look wasn't 'confusion' so much as just a reaction to (what I think) is the implication that Carmilla is also saying "I'll keep YOU safe" to _HIM._ Him, a super powerful overlord who is far older than ANYONE (except hellborn/angel immortals) we've met up until now. Who is obviously still alive because of his intelligence & caution, as well as his prowess. Yet she cares for him deeply & also considers herself to be protecting _everyone_ she cares for.
HEST NOT THE SPAIDER OVERLORD HES THE VAMPIRE OVERLOED @Airier NOT SPOILER BTW IT WAS SAID IN ONE OF VIVIPOPS PODCASTS
Ah, yeah. I didn't see the podcasts. Thanks for letting me know.
Zestial might be a vampire-themed Overlord but that doesn't change the fact that he has some spider motifs to his design.
Yooo, this is my favorite of the early episodes, and everything about the overlords is just perfect to me. It also has my second favorite song in the entire show, so that helps. Also Airier, Camilla Carmine is a sinner, the kids were her kids that she had when she was still alive, and I guess they joined her down here by keeping up the weapons business before dying themselves. Also, I like to think of it as Zestial is confused that Carmine looked to him when she said, I’ll keep YOU safe. I love Camilla and Zestial’s relationship with the mutual respect and friendship they both have.
Carmilla and her kids-from what it seems the sinners can't have kids in Hell. However, it has been established Carmilla blames herself for the fact her kids went to Hell. It is theorized Carmilla may be an ex-angel who stayed in Hell because of this.
Or an ex-heaven soul?
13:50 No, Zestial said falling INTO holy arms, i.e. having DEALINGS with angels.
The Hazbin soundtrack is literally on the Billboard 100 right now. That's how good they are.
Hell is a musical, and I blame Lilith for that. Considering she is the one that brought songs to hell in the first place (at least I think that's how it went). If I'm wrong, then oh well. Still like my head canon that Lilith turned hell into a musical and that heaven just copied them (considering a future episode).
"they can have kids?" I think those are her kids from the living world and they died and went to hell together. Sinners can't have kids in hell. That would probably make the overpopulation even WORSE lol.
I always assumed that Carmilla just had her kids in life, and they all went to Hell. Zestial was confused, it seems, because she was also talking about wanting to protect *him*, which I think is very sweet.
23:33 I am not sure but if I remember corectly he is 300 / 500 years old. And still alive. Also I know no one ask, but he Is my second favourite character in show. He could be my most favourite but, Alastor have more scenes and all of those solo songs endings. Pure gold.
Her children from when they were alive on earth.
I think what Zestial meant about "Holy arms" isn't that holy weapons were involved but rather he heard a rumor that Alastor was captured by the angels hence his 7 year absence
I am pretty sure he meant killed by Angels.
@gokbay3057 that too. I think I took the arms part probably too literally 😅
Velvette: “I could eat you lot for breakfast”
No the hell you you couldn’t…we’ve only seen displays of power from Alastor and if he’s any indication of how strong these guys are…she’s dead
There may not be "inherent" demons at all in the setting. We know Lilith was the first mortal soul banished to Hell, and she demonstrably _has_ a child, Charlie. Admittedly there was a literal angel involved with that, so we can't be 100% sure it applies to others as well. But it's still plausible enough. The more "formulaic" demons we see in Helluva Boss may just be the offsprings of some of the oldest residents, who settled into their respective forms over generations, compared to the first generation sinners, who take after their individual characteristics in life. Demon Royalty and the Sins may be direct descendants of some of the very first arrivals even - like Cain, who would have followed not too long after Lucifer and Lilith.
It would always be the same spiel: Newly arrived sinners first need to find their place in the society of hell, making the upper rings like Pentagram City a chaotic place with constantly shifting power dynamics. But after a while they either die out or settle down. Small fries either get absorbed into the larger society or cluster together and form new groups over time (like imps, sharks, hellhounds). I'm pretty sure we see the start of one of those in a later episode when we visit Cannibal Town. Surviving Overlords in turn - if they prove useful and willing - may get absorbed into the royal families once they notice that they won't be able to hold their territories and/or power all on their own forever.
At least that's how this all fits together the best for me.
Remember Striker's fancy angel-tech rifle in Hellova? That was one of her designs. Also, the deer thing with Allistar is b/c he was shot by deer hunters while burrying one of his victims as a serial killer (per the deep lore). And also, you will want to revisit "Whatever it Takes" after Ep 6. There are some MAJOR clues that only become apparent after then.
36:28 Based on portraits he has a wife and son, so it's unrequited love
The VA for Nifty also played Dawn from Waitress the musical (she sang the song "When He Sees Me")
It's weird but I expected all of the overlords to be very crafty with their wording like Vox and Alastor are. They gotta trick people into making contracts to get their power, so surely they need to be very skilled and intentional with their words at all times.
What's interesting is that Carmilla challenged Alastor instantly and was impressively able to get under his skin, which not many people can do....... but for whatever reason, she slipped up instantly with Velvette.
She exposed herself from the beginning by asking the wrong question: "where did you get this" and not 'how did you kill an angel' or anything like that. She immediately revealed the fact that she knew the Vees didn't do it and therefore immediately showed she was responsible. I think Zestial caught onto this right away too which is why he jumped in to argue with Velvette so quickly.
(Side tangent but I find Alastor hilarious in this scene. Velvette is the newer person so she doesn't have a history with him like Vox and based on that one line, probably Valentino, do. So he's just sitting there grinning knowing Vox is avoiding him heh. I think he probably also would've caught Carmilla's mistake so he was probably just sitting back and enjoying the show lolll)
In terms of Velvette, I'm not sure why she kept pushing even though she immediately got her answer. I have a few theories but I'm still not clear what the Vees are playing at
-sorry random ramble-
Carmine is a sinner, can confirm that, her daughters where not born in hell, sinners indeed can't have kids once in hell , but well no problem before than, daughters also just died and arrived in hell with her, for Zestial, i think it wasn't so much not understanding the feeling as much as surprise that she wants to protect him too, seeing she looks at him when singing about protecting and the camera also panning over him. In general, there's a slight thematic with some Overlords being far more human than they would like to admit, because all of them also where human, just really messed up ones, that's why Zestial wants to help Carmine and urges her to share her burdens with him, and that's why Carmine cares about her daughters, because for all their power and apathy, they where once human
I think there's an important element to the old guard overlords being cautious and not wanting to try an uprising. They are not actually worried about yearly exterminations. They've lived through plenty.
The meeting was about how they "own millions of souls at risk with the new schedule". To them, that's assets. Trying to fight back would go from an economic loss to actual dangers to themselves.
They probably also remember that the exterminations started after the last attempt at uprising and aren't too kin on trying again.
Finally, even if they do win... so what? Hell stops getting regularly purged? Is that something they'd want? Loosing the sinners they own is an economic drawback, sure, but overpopulation is not necessarily good for them either. The status quo isn't bad for them.
I haven't seen anyone mention it but Zestial is the oldest overlord in hell, we aren't sure when he died. so for the sinners just in the street seeing the oldest overlord with one of the most sadistic would be terrifying. Carmilla prefers to rule by law rather than fear. That's why she wanted to keep blood off her face as said in the song.
I’m late to this, but I love that you brought up Ozzy when talking about Zestial because they’re voiced by the same VA 😂
I absolutely love James (who also voices Vortex and Ozzie in Helluva Boss, btw) as Zestial in this episode, I'm kinda sad about how little he sang in this season. I'm hoping we can hear him sing more in season 2.
Remember: besides the question of where sinner kids come from, hellborn such as charlie and imps are explicitly excluded from the exterminations.
Alastor is not lying when he says that the eggs proved to be useful, no idea where you got that idea
For those who don't know, Charlie's cat kiki transforms into the key that shows up during the intro.
3:02 Errr... you are confused. The bathing in blood and actually existing is Elizabeth Bathory, a countess from Hungary (well, modern day Slovakia actually).
Carmilla is a fictional character from a 1872 novel by an Irish author (and story takes place in Austria). She is the prototypical lesbian vampire.
Neither has any connection to France.
Also no relation to the character in Hazbin Hotel, thought Vivzie might well have been inspired to name her after the fictional vampire.
Vaggie demonstrated the value of trauma bonding.
Velvete is very much showing how smart he is
By the way Alastor is not a Wendigo! He has no connections to the culture its from and Vivziepop has outright said before that he is not a wendigo. She said his design was loosely inspired by the creatures and people ran with it 😭
Zestiel is a lighting in a bottle type of supporting character. Reminds me of Death from Supernatural.
Camilla killed the angel herself (Hinted by the way she Shouted out "This meetings over")
Velveete merely found it
Carmilla Carmine as in the same overlord who produced the "Genuine Carmine crafted blessing tipped rifle" as seen in the Season 1 Helluva Boss episode five "The Harvest Moon Festival". A little cross-show continuity acknowledgement.
As for why Zestial is coming across different in private, it's simple - him and Carmilla are two of the longest-surviving Overlords and clearly have had a good working relationship throughout. He's being chill and supportive with her because she's both one of his most trustworthy allies and an old friend he respects highly.
And no, that's Stephanie Beatriz both voicing and singing for Vaggie. The amusing thing is that the gentle singing voice is actually her normal vocal range - she was also Mirabel's VA in 'Encanto', if you want another example. The gruff low-pitched speaking voice is the affectation.
I don't think Alastor's distortions are exactly lies vs truth, but rather deception vs honesty. So if he says the truth, but he says that truth with the purpose of hiding something or with the purpose of tricking someone, his voice gets distorted even though he wasn't lying. Like when he said the eggs were useful, he was being truthful, but he didn't want to say exactly why they were useful to him, so his voice got distorted.
Sinner's can't have kids, but if you have family in hell you tend to look similar. Like how Angel's family are all spiders, Carmilla and her daughters share several features. They may have been adopted, but took on the appearance of being biological when they entered hell as a symbol of their relationship to her.
