Most of the critique around the show makes me think A LOT of folks have never seen a Broadway musical before.
@@jaredwasserman1092 I'd say that's a pretty accurate assumption. It's not something people tend to actively search out and you don't really see that kind of musical represented in other mediums very often (and rarely done well).

A lot of the voice actors have Broadway backgrounds. Carmilla, for example, was the original Mimi in RENT. Lilli Cooper (Velvette) is also an amazing singer and I am so happy to see Hazbin Hotel spotlighting her voice. You should look up her rendition of Poor Unfortunate Souls and It Feels Good.
Not to mention the voice of Vaggie is Mirabel from Encanto. They got amazing voices for everyone in this show!
Carmilla was also in In The Heights
I think velvete's VA was in sponge on the musical
That kind of casting choice was what made Centaurworld so fun, too. The singing carries so much weight.

I love how the show doesn't waste time, every moment and song is either to advance the story or tell us about the characters. I really want a second season😅
They're recording the VAs for the second season, last I heard.
That's probably because there are only 8 episodes this season.
If feels like it’s paced as a broadway musical, every moment matters.

THIS. Seriously, with a lot of shows I sometimes skip scenes with characters I find boring, or do other things while watching.
With this show I just don’t, every scene is so good and so intentional, and every character is well-written. Not to mention the show is gorgeously animated and the songs are fire.
You will meet a character called Asmodeus (the sin of lust) nicknamed Ozzie in Helluva Boss fairly soon. He is the same VA as Zestial in Hazbin Hotel and I agree his voice is absolutely INCREDIBLE
He also voiced Vortex and a dino demon talking to Missy Zilla in the Hazbin pilot.

9:30 so Zestiel is actually the one they're afraid of there. Alastor has been away a long time whereas Zestiel is one of Hell's oldest overlords
You can definitely see there is an interesting dichotomy between the two of them. Alastor does not hesitate intimidate lesser demons with threats or showing off how powerful he is. But Zestial seems to just let his reputation speak for itself, without needing to actively throw his weight around.
You'll get to enjoy Zestial voice actor in helluva boss more, since he voices Vortex and you'll here him sing as Asmodeus as well.
Also the VA of Adam and our favourite snake-boy is the voice of Fizzarolli in Helluva boss as well and sings there too.
I know the reason, but the transition at 1:24 from "We dont edit stuff EVER" Immediately into "Edited for Copyright" makes me giggle
Bahahahah yeah dude it sucks so bad having to put an overlay on here. All the Helluva Boss reactions just get copyright claimed which is awesome to give the ad revenue to the creator but these, Amazon just blocks them, so when they pass the song writer actually gets the ad revenue

It's not Aleister Crowley, he died later than Alastor, and was infamous for very different reasons. Alastor was a radio show host in the southern US who died in the '30s after getting mistaken for a deer by a hunter. Crowley died from bronchitis in '47
He does get some inspiration but it's small and not overt
I think he's mixing up Aleister Crowly (English Occustist who died in the 60's) and Francis Crowly (American Murderer who died in the 30's in a shootout with New York Police).
Jason Monroe iggleheart (zestial, Ozzie, Vortex) has a voice like buttered silk and he kills it in every role

It's fine to use Aleister Crowley's name to remember Alastor's, but they had very different lives; if anything Alastor was named after a lesser demon in demonology that had the role of an executioner (that spelling of the name means "tormentor/avenger"). We know from Vivziepop streams that in life our Alastor was a radio show host in 1920's and '30s New Orleans (and died age 33, I think?).

I didn't like Velvette's voice at first but her song made her grow on me. Vaggie going military mode and throwing the boys into battle is hilarious. You can hear Pentious and Angel 'having fun' surviving in the background.
The guy who voices Zestial is named James Monroe Iglehart, and he is a pretty prominent Broadway actor, most famous for his origination of the Genie on Broadway. He also voices Vortex and Asmodeus in Helluva Boss

When Alastor and Zestial were walking the sinners were afraid of Zestial not Alastor not a lot of them wouldn't recognize Alastor on sight rn bc hes been gone for 7 years but Zestial is the oldest overlord and is still active so they all know him also Zestial's VA voices Asmodeus in Helluva you'll meet him soon he also plays the Genie in Aladin on Broadway there are actually a lot of Broadway and well know singers in the show bc Vivzie wants it to feel like a musical

Fair warning, every single song so far from all of Hazbin Hotel is a fucking banger. I have officially added it to my playlists. Also fun fact, Zestial is played by a voice actor who does the Genie in Aladdin on Broadway. The dude is insanely talented and also has a role in Helluva Boss. His music in Helluva Boss also is the best music I think. You will see him soon when you return and I can't wait to see your reaction!. Aka keep an eye out for Ozzie.
This episode seems to branch some interesting things with an overlord being a mother to two children and make you wonder on how they end up down there. To make you wonder on the whole Vaggie being an army general when she was alive?
Oh yeah everyone on the show is mad talented, most of them are straight from Broadways musical scene. A few of the actors in this are also in Helluva Boss. Specifically Alex Brightman who voices both Adam and Sir Pentious in Hazbin Hotel, and Fizarolli (and his robotic replicas like the one in "Loo Loo land") in Helluva Boss. And James Monroe Igelhart who voices Zestial in Hazbin Hotel and 2 characters in Helluva Boss. Vortex (aka the bulky hellhound guy from episode 3) and another big character who is in episodes you havent reached yet.
Alex Brightman is mostly known for being Beetlejuice in the Beetlejuice musical as well as in recent TV appearances, and James Monroe Igelhart is the actor for the Genie in the Aladdin musical on broadway.
Also yeah your gameplan with reactions seems good. Helluva Boss is on a bit of a hiatus right now with Hazbin Hotel releasing. Afaik the next episode, aka Season 2 episode 8 out of 12 is supposed to be released at some point during spring, and after that its back to a new episode every 2-3 months.
So at one point you said where do they find these people the answer is the majority of the VAs in this are from Broadway (assuming that's what you meant)
Fun thing is when all those demons were doing whatever they could to get away when they saw Zestial and Alastor, we don't know whether they're reacting to just Zestial or both him and Alastor. Or, if we are to trust the comic A Day In The Afterlife, just Alastor. I warmly recommend checking out that comic. There are fandubs on TH-cam, too!
Zestial and Alastor are definitely 2 of my favorite characters, lol!

James freaking inglehart you magnificent freak. His vocal gymnastics are insane. Especially his range for someone not trained in accapella. He is a Broadway artist with a range almost as impressive as Tim foust or Geoff castelucci

In the pilot the angels will sometimes leave their weapons in hell so that sinners could kill one another, If that's still canon then if I am to guess Carmine has agents that retrieve the weapons melt the holy metal and then infuse it in to a variety of weapons @@Ashurman666

I love that Alastor is equal parts unafraid/chill around and holds his ground with Zestiel when asked a personal question, but is also incredibly respectful of Zestiel in recognizing and appreciating his compliment.
Also alastor's glitches seem too be spot like Charlies demon form. Whenever either of them shows sudden mood spikes the powers show themselves
I don't think Alastor was as chill about Zestial as everyone seems to think he was. Just look at how he reacts to the guy showing up. Sure he isn't screaming but he's actually nervous in that moment and probably the entire time he was around Zestial

Anyway I just caught something Vaggie said while talking to Charlie on the roof. ‘How many times do we have to watch YOUR people be killed…’ she said your people, not our people. Nice little slip of the tongue there that I never caught till just now. The 6th reaction video I’ve watched, plus watching it when it came out.
i thought episode 1-4 were good BUT alittle full of content so it felt a little rushed. Than i watched episode 5-6 and ye like helluva boss this shit is going to be fricking amazing

Alastor (Hazbin Hotel) is in no way related to Aleister Crowley (Crazy cultist guy).
Alastor was a radio host, serial killer, and cannibal.
Aleister did a bunch of drugs and used "mysticism" as an excuse to have orgies.
Alastor was born in, and died in, the USA.
Aleister was born in, and died in, the UK.
Alastor died from being shot in the head after being mistaken for a deer while hiding the body of his latest victim.
Aleister died in bed at the age of 75, most likely from a combination of prolonged drug use, age, and chronic STDs.
Alastor’s last name is Hartfelt

I agree! The singing voice for Zestial Morde sounds great! I'd like to hear more from him and I think like you said adding his lower register to the rest in that mix would have been phenomenal! I'm sure we'll hear more from him down the road though. I doubt they'd have such a voice on the show and not give him a song at some point!
Alastor was nervous for a split of a second there when Zestial was "assuming" he had something to do with a holy operation or something.. And Alastor is known for slauthering thousands of hellborn species and slaying other Overlords.. that means these few guys and gals that are left.. must be incredible powerful. Even when they seems nice or just like a brat, like Velvette.

I like the idea that the Vs came into power during the power vacuum created by Alastor leaving for 7 years. Though Valentino did allude to the fact that Alastor almost beat Vox once, meaning Vox held his own whenever that happened. Or maybe Alastor for some reason didn't wanna beat him.
You can definitely tell by his body language that Alastor was nowhere near as flippant as he would be with other people when Zestial approached him. And to add, if you look carefully, it is noticeable that Alastor is being very evasive toward the questions being asked.

I have a theory that Vaggie and Carmilla were at one point intended to be mother and daughter, and that's why they have all these parallels and stuff, but they later scrapped that storyline and gave her a different backstory instead

Sometimes the angels drop their weapons, Carmella takes advantage of this by taking them and making them into guns. You can't kill a sinner without holy alloy weapons. These holy weapons can kill sinners for good and demon royalty like Charlie, Stolas, and the the Seven Sins of hell that you learn in Helluva Boss.

I always assumed it was Zestial everyone freaked out about. I mean Alastor is well... Alastor so that would also freak them out, but I got the idea that Zestial is assumed to be one of the most powerful overlords if not the most powerful

Fun fact, Angels and Demons are for all intents one species. Striker tried to kill Stoals with a Carmine Crafter Blessing Tipped Rifle. As in Carmilla Carmine, she's know for decades that holy weapons can kill Angels!
Angel weapons are the only things that can permanently kill demons. It's literally how they kill sinners, so everyone knows that.
There's no reason to assume they can do the same to angels though. We still don't know what happened with the angel, other than that Carmilla claimed responsibility.
Assuming that she used Angel weapons to do it, or even really assuming that she was actually the one to kill them, is still just speculation.

Unless I've missed something super significant, there's nothing at all in this series that indicates that there is any connection like you say between angels and demons.
@@quartzninja there is plenty of reason to speculate it's so. There is circumstantial evidence. Do you know what Demons are according to the Bible? Fallen Angels, an Angel Falls it becomes a demon. Lucifer is the first fallen angel and first demon.
Also from the show it's clear Lute could have killed Vaggie with her Spear, an angelic weapon. Also you look at Angels, they have same features as demons, anthromorphic animals, extra eyes, extra limbs, horns, etc. The only real difference is the conditions in heaven and hell, which is kind of the show's point. The difference between heaven and hell isn't as big as it looks on the surface. Plenty of Angels are A-holes, but so long as they don't break the rules it's allowed. If they screw up once they get kicked out of heaven. If Demons and Angels are the same species wise then the question of "What determines who gets into heaven" has even more weight.
