We have two large placer claims and people go on them all the time. Usually we let them mine if they seem like decent people or have kids. The reason we do this is because before we had our own claims, we were run off almost everywhere we tried to go. A couple times they led us to quite a bit of gold after we saw what they were getting.

Good info. Would really like to see a video on how to use the LR2000. That would be a good series.

Man you guys are incredibly nice to have shown that family how to placer mine and pan for gold like that. I think they were lucky to have ran into AMRA and not just a local that might have just rung a bunch of warning shots into the air to get them out

I'm new to panning and if you come across a claim are you allowed to go outside the claim markers and pan? I'm just curious thanks for your videos.

If a claim isn't marked it isn't claim jumping. When I'm prospecting that's what I look for, I don't check filings until I find something worth filing on.

also if a person is in "mining claim" territory and there are claims around .... does that claim include the road and the ditch beside it? or is that considered public right of way type of thing. i ask because i would like to try my hand at a few culverts to see if that story is true about the corrugation acting like riffles in a sluice box.

what do you do if you are walking up a creek and see no visible signs and pan some materiel and someone comes along and gives you a ration of crap .... but you didnt know and you didnt see visible signs. would a person get in trouble that way? i ask because i have seen white posts on sides of hills but not real close to where i was . and i am sure i wasnt on a claim.... but what if i was wrong. i dont want to be a claim jumper. if that ever happened to me i would apologize profusely... but the damage is done at that point. the average person doesnt know how big a claim is or even really how to look it up for themselves. if it even crosses their mind about mining claims to begin with.

Thanks for the info! Good work, im wondering does a detectorist who contacts a claim holder for permission to detect, stand a decent chance of a positive response from claim owner?

Is there a easement on California creeks and rivers? My claim is up stream of private property. Can the property owner keep me from walking the creek to get to my claim?

If I'm working the float below a gold bearing outcrop (eluvial deposit) on a canyon wall, would that be a placer or lode situation ?

We are currently producing a video on that very topic Tom. The government has made it quite complicated to determine if ground is open and that you can prospect it. We should have this video out in a few weeks.

I think you should make it clear that property taxes are paid only on patented mining claims. Special use and annual maintenance fees are paid for un-patented placer/lode claims, but not property taxes. If you own an un-patented mining claim, you own ALL of the rights to the minerals on the claim, and usually nothing else. If your un-patented claim is an old one and has been inherited or purchased in some cases you may even have surface rights. Your ownership is an interest in real property. You can leave it to your heirs, borrow against it, and even live on it with certain restrictions. Your ownership is perpetual, so long as you meet the annual requirements. The ground belongs to the federal government as long as it remains un-patented. If the claim becomes qualified for an application for a patent and the patent is accepted, the ground will become your own private property, and it will pass from the federal government to you. However, in today's left-leaning political climate that very rarely ever happens now days...
