  • AMRA, American Mining Rights Association investigates the trashed out area on the South Fork of the Stanislaus River and the men running off the public from using their public lands. Disturbing. Graphic language warning.
    AMRA is a non-profit advocacy association which fights for small-scale mining rights, water rights and public land use rights.

      Good for you. Coordination with all agencies can control this misuse of public lands. The more agencies working together, the more effective you will be.

      Jaron, this is going to be much like tap dancing in a minefield. You & I both know what they are doing is wrong, we both know that they are abusing the land, we even know they have no excuse for it.
      However, there has been several cases in federal court regarding the Fair Housing Act, which this technically covers because that is their home. This was argued in court regarding a man living in Seattle in his truck; and again in San Francisco (I think) over homeless people getting kicked off of the sidewalk.
      I personally don't care if homeless people live on BLM or USFS land, provided they don't harass people and pretty much be good stewards of their site and remember they are guests of the US Government.
      The part the BLM & USFS and associated agencies hate about this is that unless anything outright unlawful is done, other than living there *on a temporary basis*, there really isn't anything they can do. And this legal minefield is likely why the county sheriff is doing nothing. He fails to see his options as well, it seems.

    • @destravlr
      @destravlr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CarlKem Good points. I'd have to talk to the legal people at FS and BLM, but we know the issue isn't living on public lands, it's violating the laws concerning mining claims and attempts to homestead there.

    • @jaronbrandon7077
      @jaronbrandon7077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@CarlKem Yep. I see two issues. One is a guy illegally camping, but the other is abatement of clearly hazardous and at risk of fire camp materials. My biggest fear is a little blaze kicking up from that RV and scooting right along the mountain to the town of Columbia. Hopefully at least the garbage and public safety threat can be abated and he will find another place to go now that it's a known place, or better yet, seek help to get into something stable.

    • @CarlKem
      @CarlKem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Jaron Brandon That is something I have seen too often. We can point our fingers in just about every imaginable direction until finally we end up pointing at ourselves. For example, we could ask- "Why is the man living up there? He's homeless. Why is he homeless? He's a drug addict. Why is he a drug addict? Because he has mental health issues. Why aren't his mental health issues dealt with? Because..." and the further along the course we go the more complicated it gets. Maybe the man in the first camp is an addict. And maybe he's not. Let's use me as an example.
      When I was homeless I wasn't an addict. Sure I had mental health issues, but when one is living in those conditions it's really hard to not have any. I even had the money to rent, but I was dealing with landlords that are above the law, state & federal. State agencies wouldn't get involved saying it's legal and the federal agencies wouldn't step in because it involved other federal agencies even though they said it's illegal. I was left holding the bag and I went homeless while trying to complete college. Which is the only reason why I stayed in the area. So I reflect on that and I am left to ask "why are these people here? What brings them here and what prevents them from getting the help they need?"
      When we point the fingers, we point at them, then the state & federal agencies, then we end up realizing that all of this is because we as a people are too complacent and fork too much responsibility onto the same state & federal agencies that we want downsized. We want aq smaller government, without realizing the government is getting smaller by not growing. Then remain the same in size & quantity, yet the population grows. In cases like this, which I feel this is a perfect example, we reluctantly find that the homeless are not going away and if the government doesn't "man up" & do something, it'll get worse, yet they cannot "man up" and do something...without...growing...in...size.
      Jaron, you're a civil servant (kinda sorta), so I'm pretty sure you understand what I'm saying.

    Thank you for your efforts. I just paid for the lifetime membership to LDMA this year. My wife and I traveled to the Italian Bar and seen the homeless encampment. Also seen the many posted signs on the trees. I asked the onsight manager at Italian Bar about it and they were under the impression that the areas below the Bar claim is claimed. It's a shame that it's trashed. It's a beautiful area. Unfortunately getting to the Bar will leave you white knuckled during the decent. Thanks again.

    Stan registered that claim in 2018 or 2019 I think. Anthony has been living there since. I have camped in stumbletown many times in the past. And have mined there a few times.
    I have been separated from Anthony since 2017, except for a brief period in 2018/2019. Have not had contact with him since then. Until recently. He told me about this video via phone call. I can't believe how he is living. He has always been unbalanced. This just made me sad, so darn sad. I have not been in that area, it has turned into a garbage pile.

    This problem is so sad these tweakers and that's what that guy down there is) are trashing these once fantastic areas of our county and in the process are making all us miners look bad many years ago I mined this area and found many nice pieces of gold as well as great memories, back then the forest service was pretty much on folks who overstayed or left an area trashed now it's hard to even find a ranger anywhere it is like the government just gave up and does not care, Jaren Brandon is an exception he is working hard to help resolve some of these issues but he is one man the rest of the board seems to have blind eyes unless it's for their benefit. When the forest reopens I and Nick will take a run down there and see if this guy is still there. If he is I will confront him and try and chase him out. I am sick of this sort of thing we are having issues with these sorts at our panning business on Woods Creek they have stolen from us and are constantly coming on our private property causing problems and illegally panning for gold this has to stop soon, Thank you AMRA, and Jaron for caring enough to join in the fight.

    When I stayed at the LDMA camp back when the Massie's owned it, I went down to those areas. I came across a little pot patch. I figured it was not a great idea to there alone and unarmed. Too bad it's like that now. Doesn't look like the Sheriff gets out that way very often.

    So then between 5 mile creek, & the LDMA camp, it'd public access right? Cuz I was down there with my goldbug and couldn't get a square answer from both a sheriff's deputy who accosted me, as well as a Game Warden. On separate occasions, my buddy and I were both harassed by wardens, & we both asked why it's OK for that person to be literally living on the river like he is

    Beyond belief, I know you called everyone needed to know about these dirt bags. And I hope they get on it fast. That was a nice area for people to go, but now a dangerous health and safety hazard. When my claim goes dry, we would sluice out buckets there. I wouldn't let him chase me out and would have the sheriff there before things got ugly. And I would have to defend myself.

    The biggrst problem is too many agencies without a clue what info the other has. The county sheriff has zero idea who owns what claims, or even where the lines may be, so he isnt going to get involved. The state is equally clueless most of the time as the BLM is a federal agency that may (0or may not) have accurate tecords. Add to that the fact that the state of california could care less about miners rights in general...but will go out of their way for the mentally ill, drug addicted, and homeless, you are all preaching to the choir...and a year from now nothing will be any different. Sad, but the proliferation of homeless to the countryside is a sign of the times. We have similar trash piles and squatters out in the Gold Basin and elsewhere in AZ.
