For the record, the green screen artifacts are entirely on me - I’m still getting the hang of After Effects Also at 4:01 I meant to say “conduit”, not “conduct”
Great work as always. You have a sharp take on things and manage to cover everything while remaining brief. I loved Last Light. I hated some of the cliches, like wait for the thing to load while killing X amount of Y, but otherwise it was nice. The world looked great. The map was fun to use (I learned from @nthreview it's called a diegetic map) and thought burning away spider webs and wiping fog off your helmet really kept the immersion. I quite enjoyed modding the weapons. I'd love to play a "real" version of the game without weird monsters. More emphasis on exploring and surviving, and less on dodging enemies than spawn out of no where over and over until you kill the right amount of them. Still great fun though. I'd recommend this one to everyone.
Hey thanks Baldy, means a lot! If you’re looking for something similar in spirit and vibe with Metro and STALKER, I heard Chernobylite is pretty good. Haven’t had the chance to play it myself tho
Stellar analysis that instant made me want to revisit this awesome series. Keep up amazing work Mark! This has to be one of the most underrated channels on youtube.
Awwww thank you so much, you’re too kind! I’ll keep making videos for as long as people want me around. Big numbers are nice, but it’s comments like yours that motivate me to keep pushing
I remember back in like 2012 or so I had found 2033 on steam like the day before I was about to leave for our annual family ski trip. I got so hooked that I couldnt peel myself away long enough for the drive up the mountains that I didn't end up getting up there until like 1 am and then immediately set my laptop up at the kitchen table and basically played right the rest of the way through the night until I rolled credits right as we were all getting ready to hit the slopes. An absolutely awesome series, and last light was somehow even better in basically every way. I still havent finished Exodus because I was over halfway through and something happened with my save file and I had to start over from scratch. It was good but didnt hook me anything close to 2033 or last light. Still want to finish it eventually.
What a fun story! I was hooked too - I played 2033 during summer break 2010. I was sweating like a mf and scared shitless but I just couldn’t put it down, it was THAT good. And I’m glad it wasn’t a rose tinted glasses kinda situation because I loved it even more when I played it last year as a 30 yo adult
19:22 bro the way i jumped- also now I'm wondering why Borderlands with all their freedom for weapon design never made something as dumb as a bandit gun made out of bicycle scrap, it would've felt right at home
I played Borderlands way too little and way too long ago to remember anything about the weapons, but now that you mention it, it does come as a shock that its weapons are not as bonkers as Metro Last Light’s. As crazy as Last Light’s weapon design looks, Metro Exodus takes it even a step further. They’re not so much weapons as they are stupidly elaborate contraptions frankensteined out of weapon parts. You can turn a pistol into a sniper rifle or a shotgun and viceversa in a few seconds if you have the required parts on you. It’s freaking crazy
Metro Last Light was promoted bit more on E3, so people in my college pirated it when they needed another "Call of Duty" like action game. That's when I first heard about the series.
Keep in mind: Artiom carries layers of clothing and armor in an cold environement. It´s natural for his movement to be slowed down by these factors (relative to the speedy mutants).
Another great review. 👍 Having gotten a law degree myself, I'd say you didn't miss much dropping out. 😆 Would you consider covering the This Is The Police, or Fear and Hunger series of games?
Hey thank you very much, you’re too kind! Given my affinity for anything noir adjacent, I’d love to cover This is The Police, but my backlog of recorded games is HUMONGOUS. However, my friend and fellow TH-camr DarthZombie made a great video about that series that you should definitely check out: th-cam.com/video/76D9GOjYZmg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WAPfAASSRwh76PdF
As for Fear and Hunger, I’ve honestly never of it. From what I can tell, it looks like a modern take on 90s turn based RPGs? The UI and stuff looks incredibly similar to old Final Fantasy games, at least to my untrained eye
@@thesummerofmark Sort of, it's an extremely dark turn-based/dungeon RPG with resource management, strong story/lore and world-building. Also very unique and punishing game mechanics. It's highly bleak in its atmosphere with a lot of uncomfortable content, but without straying into 'try-hard' territory, it has a genuine feel. Also a very competent and intense game in its own right. It's been quite extensively covered on TH-cam, but I'd certainly like to hear your unique perspective on it sometime. 👍
@@Jordan-fd6cx sounds like a cool game, I’ll put it on the list. Thanks for the recommendation! Worst case scenario I’ll play it and write something about it on Twitter or Patreon

That’s wild. The COD link came to me very recently actually
I only played the first game. I was never sure how much the narrative-change and action sequences of the 2nd game would capture me.
