    When considering the Clockwork Mansion, I can't help but think about Karis' mansion in Thief II. It's really like an evolution of the same idea. Right down to the detail that Karis knows you're there and is simply toying with you, like a cat playing with a mouse.

    Incredible video, immediately subbed because this is genuine top tier content. One thing I'll like to add on why Dust District is such a cool mission too is that, you don't even have to interact with the whole warring faction thing. If you're smart enough and is willing to solve a puzzle, you could very much just walk up to the door and solve the puzzle yourself. The way Arkane designs their game is genuinely amazing.

    I hear the same old refrain time and time again about how the chaos system "punishes combat centric players". But how, exactly? It results in more enemies to do combat with, which is clearly what the player enjoys if that's how they've been doing it so far. It culminates beautifully in the final level - the high chaos version is the ultimate combat challenge of the campaign (Dunwall City Trials notwithstanding), and the low chaos version is the ultimate stealth challenge. Feels to me like it's rewarding players with more of the kind of gameplay they like, not punishing them.

    • @thesummerofmark
      @thesummerofmark  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for your input. I adressed that part in another comment so i’ll just copy paste my response here:
      “What I meant by “punishment” was that (at least in DH1) the coolest powers were of the aggressive/lethal nature and you were “punished” with the bad ending for using them, whereas the non lethal powers were less interesting. However, in my DH1 video, I argued that non lethal play styles being “boring” and less flashy is thematically appropriate, as doing the right thing is hard and, well, boring. What I also forgot to mention was that you can kill like 20% of enemies on a given mission and still get low chaos, so the game lets you have A LITTLE fun”

Haven't gotten very far into this one yet, but one thing I already wanna say: you've been experimenting with different kinds of thumbnails for the past year or so, and I think this one really is the best of them. Super readable, and great spacial composition, and the sub-line gives a nice bit of intrigue. Upgraded stun mines are the most efficient way to take out a Clockwork Soldier. And since you are going for non-lethal, and don't need to upgrade other weapons, you can get the stun mines up to a triple charge (enough to take out the soldiers) quite early in the game.
    I think there's a nonlethal way to get revenge on that woman who befriended the old lady, Mrs Wetherspoon, and planned to rob her, but it's been a couple of years since I played, and I've forgotten what it is.

    based video, shame that dishohored 2 didn't get as much attention as it should have. i personally loved being creative and trying to make the gamer more difficult in DH1, but i think i should've given myself more time to wrap my head around 2. there was definitely moments in DH1 where things felt like they only existed for gameplay (like how you mentioned other games have man sized air vents), but it did end up feeling so much more natural in what i did end up seeing of 2. gg

    I don't know about the “chaos system is punishment” argument. You occupy the role of Dunwall's executioner if you go high chaos (as in, literally killing the city itself), so why shouldn't you see that? In other immersive sims, you can stuff police in vents and receive no consequences. And Dishonored would be criticised if you could leave a bloodbath behind you on every level and it's just fine.

    • @thesummerofmark
      @thesummerofmark  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah, I totally see where you’re coming from. However, in my DH1 video, I argued that non lethal play styles being “boring” and less flashy is thematically appropriate, as doing the right thing is hard and, well, boring. @@thesummerofmark Absolutely! I mean, you explain yourself perfectly in the video, it's just that "the chaos system punishes fun" is something people often say without nuance.
      This is a bit off topic, but what did you think of the Flooded District levels, as someone who liked the level design a bit more than the character/story stuff? For me, it's one of the best parts of the game. It's Dunwall's society at its worst, it's meditatively bleak, it's urban decay at it's most extreme.

      @thesummerofmark  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s been a while but I do remember saying that Dishonored 2’s chaos system allows for more nuance. Like targets have different chaos rating - for example, killing Luca Abele nets you less chaos points than killing doctor Hypatia. Or are you referring to what I said about Dishonored 1?

    • @AMaleDaG
      @AMaleDaG ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @thesummerofmark yeah it was just when you critiqued the DH1 chaos system that you said it was punishing players for combat.
      It's a great and entertaining video overall but I just don't get people always complaining about the system punishing you for your actions (murder of guards who are not directly responsible for anything that happened to you). AFAIK You can even kill all of the assassination targets and still get low chaos and if you don't it really doesn't matter because at the end of the day it's just a nice little ending slideshow which ties up loose ends and gives more gravity to the player's actions.
      Might just be that I'm not that bothered by it anymore because I replayed all Dishonoreds multiple times, getting all the achievements with all playstyles and pretty much all endings.
      The absence of the chaos system in DOTO honestly kind of diminished the replayability for me because there were no major changes to the world based on who you killed. For me, it always felt like the chaos system kind of gave us two really different experiences, which are both above all FUN.

      @@AMaleDaG thank you for watching and your kind words! Yeah i totally get where you’re coming from - i meant punishing less in a gameplay sense and more from a narrative perspective. I don’t necessarily mean “punishing” in a negative sense - thematically speaking, it makes sense for the world to react and go to absolute shit if you’re acting like an asshole and murdering everybody. Looking back, one of my regrets was not spending more time fleshing out that bit better - but i’ll try do to better in future videos!
