Best Road Trip Car Vlog Setup - How To Set Up GoPros and Use the GoPro App

  • There are many ways to set up cameras in the car when you're vlogging and this is the best camera setup I found that works for me using 2-3 GoPros and a Zoom Mic with a couple of windshield mounts, a dashboard mount, and an optional clip mount. I also show you how to control the GoPros using the GoPro App.

    Quick note, you can plug the cameras into the Cigarette lighter / accessory port, or USB port on newer cars. You can leave the battery out completely. everything else works great, and you never have to replace the battery. the only flaw is, the Gopro turns off when you turn the car off.

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My GoPro would still overheat or act weird when I leaved it plugged in, so I stopped doing this. I'm not sure if I have a defective GoPro or not, but if it works for a long period of time for you, I'm guessing I have a bad product.

      @@travelpockets My GoPro still overheats as well, I usually redirect a vent to blow air on the GoPro. For most of my videos I put the GoPro on the outside and direct the USB charging cable through the sunroof. I also have a tether rope mounted to the base of the suction mount "just in case". The view outside the window is much brighter and clearer than through the tint of the windshield

You can try hooking up the cable to a USB power source in your car and that way you won't have to switch batteries. I actually tried this with my GoPro HERO 8, but it got overheated and stopped recording or acting weird, so I stopped doing that. I believe others have had success with it tho. Hi Alexis! That sounds like such an awesome trip!! You can actually adjust the settings in GoPro to get rid of the fisheye look. And if you forget to adjust the settings, you can also use an effect in Premiere Pro to get rid of most of it OR if you shoot in 4K and edit in a HD sequence, you can zoom into the footage and get rid of the fisheye edges. That might be a little too technical, so the easiest option would be to change the settings :)

    How are GoPros as far as picture/video stabilization? I would like to use to record off-road Jeep videos.

    • @travelpockets

      GoPros are excellent with video stabilization. I'm always amazed with how great of a job it does. You have different levels of stabilization now too with the HyperSmooth modes.

    Hi. If I use this for my car dashcam. How long does the recording last and also will it loop record?? Thanks

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually switch the batteries every 2-3 hours, but you can also plug in the battery adapter to record the whole time. I had problems doing that with the GoPro overheating, but others have had success. Not sure about loop recording.

    I have a GoPro hero 7 mounted on my dash. Problem is it over heats and shuts down. Have you had any problems like that?

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  ปีที่แล้ว

      My GoPro 9 and 10 overheats if I have it recording for more than 20 minutes. If I record on timelapse, it seems to be fine.

    That GoPro 8 housing case is not available anymore on Amazon. :( I’m looking for something just like it and I’m in Canada, do you know another website that sells housing cases just like that one? I’m also looking to set up the go pro in my car

    One question. Does the image come out stable when the car vibrates or moves a lot on the road?

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, the image comes out very clear because the newer GoPros have a Hypersmooth feature that does an incredible job stabilizing the footage.

    How do you keep the GoPros charged while vlogging

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just used the batteries and changed them out as needed (that's why I use the case to take out the GoPro easily). You can also charge your GoPro through it's cable, but I found that it overheated my GoPro and it would start acting finicky, so I stopped doing that. I'ver heard others say it works for them.

  • @what9621

    So the million dollar question, how steady are your videos when going over dips and bumps. I have never seen a gimbal for inside of cars where can easily install.

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The newer GoPros handle bumps nicely. Especially if you have Hyper Smooth on. It has the same effects as a gimbal.

    • @travelpockets

  • @FedSher

    As I can see here... it seems that there's no case needed at all to mount GoPro 9 right? At least to shoot dashcam footage of course, and as long as you don't really need those audio cases shown here. I just bought it and I can see that there isn't any case included like the previous versions.

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, you are correct. You don't need a case to mount the GoPro 9. I just use it to take out the GoPro more easily without having to unscrew anything.

    • @FedSher
      @FedSher 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@travelpockets 👌 I was thinking of that as well, it might be a problem unless you can take out the batteries and plug the camera to any device without removing it...otherwise I'll need to buy a case of course

    Why don't you just run a cable from a usb charger into the gopro..? No need to replace the battery then as it will continually charge. In England we have a cigarette lighter slot in our cars. You can just plug a dual usb charger into that and away you go.

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get asked this question a lot and I did try to charge with a cable while the GoPro was powered on several times, but my GoPro kept on overheating and started acting weird like recording footage upside down or not recording at all.
