The conventional seat configuration on the 787 is 3-3-3, while JAL has 1 seat less in each row, making it a 2-4-2 configuration. This reduction in pax explains the extra bin space you have as opposed to other airlines.
Flew JAL July 2023 from Seattle to Tokyo Narita. I really like the 2-4-2 seat configuration. Economy with these guys were great. Food was good. On this flight they offered miso soup with lunch. And we got Haagen Dasz for dessert. On my return trip flew American Airlines Dreamliner to DFW. I did not enjoy that flight very much. The seat configuraiton is 3-3-3. Service with JAL was outstanding in comparison to AA. AA service was just average in comparison.
Great informative review. I will be flying JAL in October from LAX to KIX. I believe it’s their 787-8 or -9. I’m sorry to hear about their meal service. I wanted to say that the food is prepared at the LAX facility and maybe that’s why it was so poor, but when I saw the Japan outbound flight wasn’t so good either, then maybe JAL needs to do something about it. I still look forward to my economy flight because of the extra space.
Yeah the food was disappointing (especially for JAL), but we loved everything else about it! We would go with JAL every single time if we could. Have a great flight!
😊I missed Jal , going to visit families in Thailand for decades, we used to go with ANA or Jal cause we love landing in Japan but the price is too expensive nowadays. We’re leaving again to BKK this summer and we had to opt out of JAL for EVA this time cause of the price 😅 and I do totally agree with y’all about the rice has to be perfect in certain way, being half Asian as well, I would had complained about my rice too 😂 Thank you for sharing this review, like always love 💕 y’all’s videos!!!
Very helpful review. I agree that JAL's economy seats (marked as "Sky Wider") are currently the best out there. I also agree that JAL's meals in economy are not as good as they were, even a year ago. Overall still a great airline! It's nice to be treated with dignity. Cheers, Guy
Concur. JAL economy is great. I fly from HNL and find JAL and ANA superior to the local and other US carriers. If I fly a US carrier, I almost always have to fly in a premium cabin because economy is too uncomfortable. If you noticed, for the 787, JAL is the only one with 8 abreast (2-4-2) seating. Standard is 9 (3-3-3). Service is impeccable. Cabin crew always busy working. I regularly see them clean the lavatory.
Had no idea that JAL was the only 8. Good to know! And totally agree with you on US flights - it's ridiculous how little legroom they give you nowadays in economy😑
Glad to hear Wi-Fi worked well, flew Alaska last time I went over to Japan and got the inflight Wi-Fi for the whole flight and it hardly worked at all.
That's a bummer that WiFi barley worked. That happens often on international flights tho... so that's why we were surprised at how well this WiFi worked.
Nice and for JAL they compete with ANA for US to Japan market. Codeshare wise JL is in Oneworld with AA and AS while ANA is Star Alliance with UA for US connections. If you did ANA LAX-NRT you can compare 3-3-3 B787-9 to JL 2-4-2 B787-9
I have a question. I'm heading to Japan this weekend, but regarding the WIFI, will I need to purchase it before I board on the plane or during the flight ?
I almost get to fly using Japan Airline but someone has to ruined by missing a flight now we have to fly on horrible United Airlines i guess i can only experience Japan Airline on here
@@travelpockets Thanks you, I was able to flew ANA to Bangkok from Tokyo and it was instantly better than United Airlines I flew from San Francisco to Tokyo. The difference is I can sleep on ANA but I can’t sleep on United Airline at all it was too uncomfortable. We also faced multiple delays on United Airlines as well causing us to missed a second flight and have to wait tomorrow to a flight to Tokyo. I don’t know how can United get away with delaying so many flights
If you prefer a nondensified seat arrangement in economy, then JAL is the better choice. Flying a 787 Dreamliner, for example, would be 3-3-3 with ANA compared to 2-4-2 with JAL. For my body, the JAL Sky Wider seat also feels more comfotable than ANA's. Cheers, Guy
One thing to keep in mind is that JAL does not distinguish between vegan and vegetarian. I don't like fish/seafood so I ordered the vegetarian option when I purchased the tickets (I do eat meat and dairy.) They ended up serving me vegan meals. I didn't get dessert for the first meal because they didn't have a vegan option. When I asked if I could have the ice cream being offered, the FA pointed to my vegan sticker and simply said, "No." I found myself hungry on the 10 hour flight because both of my meals were basically salads. I made sure to bring snacks and beef jerky on the return flight and it was fine. Other than the food (hubby wasn't too impressed with his regular menu) it was a very pleasant flight. The 2-4-2 configuration is really nice.
The long time for Japanese females to go thru the custom because of the cheap YEN. Japanese passport + relatively young + females + cheap YEN = very long time to check to make sure she is not going to Las Vegas or somewhere to do business at night. This was on the news.
Ever since JAL have their flight here in San Diego, I always take that flight to Manila via Narita. I have been taking JAL for the past 6 years. No need for me to go to LAX. Great service, superb performance, friendly flight crew. In your video, it seems you did not avail their on-line check in?

JAL is known for their superior service!

Now I want to fly to Japan on JAL!
You should! It's the best❤

We have never been on EVA. Will have to check that one out! LOL glad someone understands us about the rice😂 Thanks for watching!

Ok so it wasn't just us that thought the quality of the food went down! Thanks for watching :)

Thank you for the review. We'll be flying with JAL for the first time. We've been flying with Asiana and EVA most of the time.
You will love JAL!
Im taking the exact flight JL61 in a few months excited to see what JAL will have when I go to Japan !
We're excited for you!! Have a great time :)

Good job mate 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
How would you compare JAL vs United Airlines from LAX to NRT? Which is better?
JAL is way better when it comes to regular economy seats.
Did you purchase the basic economy tickets? or regular economy?
Regular economy seats
What I find amazing is the actual dishes look EXACTLY like they are in the pictures.
When was the last time THAT happened ?
I have a question. I'm heading to Japan this weekend, but regarding the WIFI, will I need to purchase it before I board on the plane or during the flight ?
Sorry to get back to you late but you purchase the Wifi on the flight
Ohh the taco rice looked good, I’m going back but flying Zipair!
We've been wondering about the flying experience with Zipair!
Which Quince carry on luggage do you have? 20” or 21”
We have the bigger carry on 21"
Hope adults could also have colouring books, tactile entertainment helps long hauls
How was the cabin temp on your flight? I’ve read that JAL cabins can be too warm and that’s making me a little nervous 😅
It's definitely warmer on JAL flights than other airlines. We're comfortable with warmer temps but if you don't like that, definitely dress lighter.
I almost get to fly using Japan Airline but someone has to ruined by missing a flight now we have to fly on horrible United Airlines i guess i can only experience Japan Airline on here
Aww sorry to hear that you could not get on JAL. United isn't too bad on international flights. Hopefully everything went ok! Safe travels.

Any rescheduling issues??
We've never rescheduled, so not sure.
As a good mexican, i always like to steal the most i can from the free snack bar in the back during long flights
Jal or ana?

official website of japan airlines please?
If you can't figure that out, then I think travelling to Japan will not be a good idea. 😂

Come on
What? No whipped butter?
HAHAHA nooooo!😆
$1268.20 Economy Class costs .
2-4-2 is the best

Your so lucky you get to fly from San Diego! We would much prefer that😭
