All of my shoes ruin my outfits. I inherited my grandmother's feet and it's been highly frustrating and expensive throwing so many away that hurt. Even with orthotics my choices are very limited. Don't take it for granted if you have good feet!

I have foot issues too, but, after a few years of frustration at not being able to wear what I used to, I kind of got round it by choosing flat shoes of good quality but with thicker soles, wider in the front and well designed, and made only of natural materials. You can go for casual elegance even with these restrictions. White sneakers, flat sandals, brogues, loafers and ankle boots (flat or with very low heel) can be a great base for any outfit and all seasons. And, always try before you buy.

Shoes (and purses) are a touchy subject for me--I've collected so many over the years, some that I love and some that I never wear. It's hard to pick the best/essentials, because it would be admitting purchase mistakes made and that, in the end, being practical always wins over glamorous dreaming.

Yes, the Chanel style shoes! One of my must haves when I got rid of the cheap looking and started to dress more "chic". The loafers, flats and a basic court shoe/pump are my staples.

  • @reenougle

Chouette! I have every single shoe style in the video except ballet flats -I am short so I like to have at least a little heel. I have Chanel-style shoes and I feel very chic when I wear them. I also love the snakeskin pumps to jazz up any outfit. Living in France for 6 years made my wardrobe very simple and very French. I have a weakness for any Hermès scarf and Chanel No. 5 and 24, Faubourg are my parfums. En effet, j’ai l’esprit d’une vraie française, moi!

Very interesting - and I'm glad to realize that I have a number of these styles already! I would also suggest a good pair of waterproof/rubber boots (e.g. Hunter) for those of us who live in damper climates . Elegant? Maybe not. But a lot more practical (and chic in their own way) than shoes that get soaked by rain, thus ruining both the shoe and the look.

I do have short and tall boots, trainers in multiple colors, flats, and both nude and lizard pumps with low heels (which I also adore). I also have my chunkier Adidas in both black and white (I switched the laces) and love them both with jeans. Elaine, take your shoes to a good quality shoe repair/clean/cobbler(?). I found a guy that can make ankle straps for ballet shoes or make shoes and everything in between. It's also invaluable to have someone who repairs shoes well. I walk my soles down to nothing and have him replace soles constantly. Better than replacing whole shoes.

In addition to my white Superga sneakers, I have a pair of tan leather Ecco sneakers aka lace-up Oxford style. I wear the leather much more often because the soles of the Superga are a bit more gummy on the bottoms. For walking jogging or running, I use running shoes and the higher density sole with the higher stability uppers of a trail shoes or rugged thick leather hiking boots with solid rubber soles for eh-hem hiking.

Great video Marie-Anne. I have all those styles accept for loafers, I’m still looking for a non slip comfy pair of those. My most versatile shoes have been my knee length black boots, they go with everything in autumn and winter. I would add another style to the list, a metallic pair of silver or gold strapped heeled sandals for evening wear in the summer months. Metallics can work like a neutral with lots of different outfits. Just keep them simple, not too many embellishments. Best wishes from Australia 🤗

My absolute favorite shoe I’ve ever worn is the three strap sandal by SAS shoes. They are literally the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I’m currently on my third pair. My first pair I think I lost, but my second pair I wore until they literally fell apart. I put several thousand miles on them over ten years time. Of course they fell apart! But they are the most comfortable shoes ever. They can go with most casual clothes, but aren’t really suitable for dressy or work wear. I love to wear them for everything. They are amazing when I have to be on my feet, as they have the best support I’ve ever tried. Absolutely incredible for the marathon sessions of holiday baking that I do every year.
My current pair I am totally in love with. I bought them from eBay second hand, but in nearly new condition. The elastic on the straps was a bit stretched out, but the soles looked like they had never actually touched the pavement? It made me wonder if the first owner had been a wheelchair user with feet that often swelled? Seriously, zero wear on the soles when I first got them. It’s been great. I’m managing to put more miles on this pair than my last pair, as I just moved to a more walkable neighborhood.

I got a new pair, red with the gold embellishment, & I have had the pleasure of wearing them several times this spring, & received a couple nice complements, (one was from a man...hehe!) But my real favorite was your amazing boots! I can't manage a high heel anymore, but I can do kitten heel on a good day. You actually came up in the conversation this weekend. A couple of my kids were visiting & my youngest daughter & someday daughter-in-law, (Ha...I think!), were talking fashion & I was telling them about your video's that I am enjoying!

Most of the shown shoes are great, BUT: it is very difficult to get nice shoes, when your shoe size is 42. Also I am 1,84m and very slim. The height of my shoes is limited, not to high and not to flat. It seems a little bit paradox, but tall women shouldn‘t wear very flat shoes, because we needn‘t hide our height and bigger feet look smaller with heels that are not to flat.

I had a pair of ankle boots from Bally. I had them for 20 years and was heartbroken when they finally had to be given up as they became unrepairable. 8:56 I was lucky enough to get them in the sales (nearly 50% off) and I really got my moneys worth out of them

I have just about all of these except the "chanel" style. My knee boots are flat riding soles, I can't wear heels very much anymore. And instead of ankle boots, I have a neutral pair of suede booties. I'm in need of some new ballet flats, I love wearing those with my jeans.

I love the first sandals and the Chanel style shoes. Ballet flats look really cute on some people but for me with wide feet at the front and narrow ankles they tend to slip off, it becomes very annoying especially when the shoes stretch with wear so I have to avoid them. I also cannot wear much of a heel any more so tend to avoid anything over 1" and stick to block heels. The boots are great too and I like ankle boots and shorter leg ones.

Bonjour Marie-Anne, Thank for another excellent video. As I watched, I was a wee bit surprised to see that I have many of the shoes you recommend in my closet. I lack the brogues and nude shoes, and will be looking for them in the future. I have a pair of Ralph Lauren black ankle boots that I have worn and worn for about six years and they are literally falling apart, so I'll be on the hunt for a new pair in the next month or two.
A couple of weeks ago was the first time we were able to attend church in person. In summer I tend to wear sandals with everything, but after watching so many of your videos and taking a couple of your e-courses, I decided that I would wear a pair of light grey patent slingbacks (much the same shape as your Chanel-style shoes) with my white jeans and black top. They elevated both the look and my mood for the day. Thank you, Marie-Anne, for upping my confidence level in the way I dress.

One shoe item that you did not include that I won't be without as well as most of yours is the combat boot. I have them in brown, black, and gray. They take the place of the masculine black pair of lace-up loafers you have on here. I wear them with dresses and skirts and jeans!

Thank You for this. I agree with the sandles & the Chanel block heel spectator sling backs & the block heel moccasins. The brogues work but with more sole. and ankle and calf boots are needed for the wardrobe; BUT sorry, sneakers are for the gym only; and ballerina flats are terrible for your back; However, nude color shoes & snake print shoes are also a must have for the closet as you can wear them for 2-3 seasons of the year and the heel style and height, like the print, are NOT at the mercy of fashion trends.

@@MarieAnneLecoeur That's cool. Fashion is cultural. At 53 I'm NOT wearing Converse sneakers with a suit. It's a NO-NO here in NYC. It's also a Junior - Miss Look. I can't pull that off anymore. However, DR Martin's for brogues work with suits especially with knee-length or longer. Added plus is that every Spring and Fall they have really nice colors and patterns that are suitable for wardrobes in office or classroom use. I have worn them for years and have saved my back from MD visits.

I wear ankle boots (with pants) A LOT in the cooler months -- some western style, some Victorian style, most (most!) either black or gray or tan. VERY comfortable and warm. But I also have several pairs of tooled-faux-leather clogs (not mules) that have terrific arch support, They may not be chic, but they're good for my work style and wear like a sweet dream.

Good morning Marie - Anne. Shoes are my passion and have been since l was a child. I was always a UK 4 but. with EU sizing now l need 36.5 which are not always easy to find and are without exception in the higher price range. My goto shoes are black suede, black patent and navy pointed toe court shoes 9cm heels. I have just bought French Sole Ballerinas and doubted my colour choice - deep fushia pink but now lve seen your choice of a bright colour feel pleased with my choice - thank you😘. I love cream and black shoes but - for me - it's Chanel or nothing - maybe one day🤞❤️. I have some Gina shoes that are over 40 years old - bought before Gina became a luxury brand. I was impressed on how well kept your shoes are especially the boots. I believe if we can only own one pair of heels it should be black patent almond or pointed toe with a heel to suit the individual - mine is 9cms. You are inspirational 😍
