When my husband and I married, he always encouraged me to wear a hat in the sun, to prevent sunburn on my face. Slowly I began wearing hats to Mass again, then also to the malls when shopping. About 20 years ago, I just happened to wear a hat to a conference and that was the first time I did not get a migraine while at this annual conference. Suddenly I realized that the hat prevented the fluorescent lights from getting to my eyes and giving me a migraine! I tell everyone that they can wear a hat, they just need to find a style that fits them. Also, if they know someone who gets migraines, encourage them to wear hats when indoors with fluorescent lights. It has made a big difference for me.
Oh my goodness!! Two French ladies talking about hats! I love it, love it. I do wish hats would make a real come back and then maybe we can find an honest to goodness hat shop.
The very first hat, the grey cloche, looked fabulous on you. It complemented your skin tone and made you glow in the video. I hope you go back and get that one to wear with that beautiful grey sweater. Thank you for the informational video.
I wear hats and scarves. I love to head wrap a scarf, also. Once you get started, it's hard to stop. I have drawers of scarves and probably 30 hats for every season.
I feel the same way! I have been wearing hats since my 20's and now in my 60's, I am not stopping. I just learned how to wear scarves 5 yrs ago though. They are so much fun!
Myriam was wonderful. I would love to see summer version of this video for all of us in warmer climates. I’m sure you can be convinced to return when the weather warms up in France.
I love hats and scarves. I have worn them for as long as I can remember. Even as a teenager. I inherited my grandmothers hats from the 40s and I occasionally wear those as well for special occasions.
Yes - the pink cloche hat with the bow was beautiful! I loved the pink beret also ❤️. I was surprised to hear Myriam say that many women are afraid of being looked at,due to lack of self confidence. I find that wearing a hat boosts my self confidence. The black hat is stunning and elegant-enjoy them!
This is so much fun. I loved you in every one of the cloches. But I adore the fedora too. Love hats. Please do spring styles too! You made great choices. I would love to visit this shop.
I love hats! My husband found me a vintage fur hat and I've finally gotten brave enough to wear it. I used to be afraid I didnt have the panache to wear it well. But I love it, I feel so happy in it, and get so many compliments on it!
Oh Marie Anne, how I love hats! I also loved this video and the tip about pinning the band to adjust the fit was very useful! I am currently wearing a beret, a cloche and a fedora; all in black.
Oh God wish we had a hat shop like that in the USA Most of the hats are in the department stores. Well I will be on the hunt. I love the twenties style on you.
N Doucette don’t know where you are in the states but there is a fabulous hat shop in Eureka Springs, Arkansas (Hats, Hides and Heirlooms) that has a wonderful selection of hats. I have about 65 hats of which most came from that shop.

@@nonmihiseddeo4181 I find a lot of my hats on Ebay believe it or not! Of course you can't try them on beforehand but I have found some gorgeous and well priced vintage ones that I treasure!!
@@ninthsquarecommunity I recently bought a collection 6 pillbox hats from the Jackie Kennedy era at an estate sale, and they are gorgeous, each with two hat pins. You're right. There's nothing like seeing a hat in person. That said, most of my hats are bought online. I know my size, so fit isn't a problem. Buying from reputable online shops, I never have a hassle with a return or exchange, though that rarely happens. I never thought about Ebay! I will definitely check that out. Thanks for the heads up, and if you have any tips about buying hats on Ebay, they'd be much appreciated.
I love the hats you chose. The black fedora, the gray fur, and the fuchsia cloche were my favorites on you. I think the fuchsia suited you much more than the orange, and even more than the particular shades of red (though I think your red lipstick, for example, is a shade of red that suits you beautifully). I really enjoyed this, as it is always difficult to tell which hats do and do not suit -- and it is helpful to see a shopkeeper choosing and also styling the hats on you. Loved this!
I love hats, scarves and jewellery and colour. My day is mine to enjoy, it will never come again so as long as it's appropriate and elegant, I wear what I like and accept people looking at me as a compliment ❤ That fedora looks STUNNING on you.
I love hats so much. What an informative video. The hats you chose really suit you. My grandmother wore lots of hats 1940s-1970s and I inherited them. She told me how changing the hat band could change the entire look of the hat and outfit. She used petersham or satin ribbon, or various scarves. So, you could accessorize the plain black fedora with a pop of color by changing the ribbon. Again, thank you for taking us to a hat shop.
Marvelous....I am so glad that you purchased the hats and showed us what you bought. I love them. I LOVE hats. You look extremely sharp in that black hat you are wearing. I love the fuschia hat you have in your bag. I believe the other is one with a fur brim. I have a fur brim hat. I want to purchase a cloches. Lovely.
Dear Marie-Anne, I am so pleased that you bought 3 hats, including the jaunty fedora. I have a love for cloches, and so many of them suited you to a tee. I think you bought one of them, maybe the fuscia. Hope so. It was a delight on you.
So very enjoyable. My Mother always wore beautiful custom hats from small boutiques in NY where you could receive similar service. Now those kinds of places are just about non existent where we live. Thanks for sharing this lovely experience.
My daughter looks fantastic in fedora's. Most are men's hats. My favorite one she found at a thrift store and has a small tasteful flat bow. She gets compliments from MEN on that one. It is her personal style trademark now.
The cloche is for you! I would choose a soft gray for you. Thank you for this video. It was very timely as we are expecting a lot of snow here tonight in Lake Tahoe, CA. ❄️
I absolutely love true cloche hats - partly because of their association in my mind with the 1920’s . Regardez the board on the trottoir . A cloche and a danse du thé for me .
Only in France would you wander into a local hat shop! Lovely useful video, as I'm in the market for a hat, myself! The fedora looked so stylish on you!
I wore a bright red and black beret all the time when I was in my teens (early 90s). I absolutely loved them and wore them until they wore out. That was many years ago, but I'm thinking I'll start wearing them again now after watching this. My love for berets is reignited!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Marie-Anne my take on it is that you should wear what you makes you feel good and looks nice on you. Everything old is new again at some point ha. I think of berets as a classic not a cliche. To each their own.
Thank you for speaking in French during your hat shopping experience. I took French in college and it was nice to be able to understand, at least, every other word spoken....lol. Love that both you ladies discussed the philosophy of wearing certain styles of hats. I just used to plop a style on my head and that was that. Love the hot pink hat with the origami folds! Wow! Great video!
You have no idea how much I enjoyed this video. I am Polish and when I was a child my mum and grandma would buy hats only in a little hat store just like that! I also used to go with my grandfather to a hat factory to sell his rabbit skins for felt and I remember the amazing factory hat store. I also have fond memories of all the ladies wearing proper hats to church on Sunday. Nowadays the little hat store in my home town is long gone and everybody wears cheap quality hats from chain stores :( Would you please make a video how to style the hats you bought with different outfits? Particularly with more casual outfits. I would love to wear a structured hat more often but my style is more casual and I think it clashes sometimes. Thank you Marie-Anne.
I love hats!and I think she is so right about self confidence when wearing them. If it is not quite right for you, it will draw unwanted attention and you will feel self conscious.
I love hats and have a few quality ones. My favorite one is a black wool bowler with a good substantial rim. Instantly adds class to any outfit. I have one like you are wearing in the video at 5:00 in burgundy wool. I have two fur hats like the ones at 14:30. Never saw anyone in my area wear one like it. I don't have an extensive collection but they are curated to fit my needs and wardrobe. I wish more women would wear hats.
Awesome tips and advice. In order to continue your hat-themed videos I would like to suggest the following ideas. Hat care and maintenance, outfits that can be enhanced with hats and how to wear a hat with spectales and still look chic and hat ettiquette (when to take it off etc.) Thank you.
I agree with the tips, very smart advice. I love hats and had one in my early 20s, but I was not comfortable wearing it. It was stylish and did not go with my outfits at that time. I felt out of the place. Very few hats look wow on me. I bought a similar hat recently and it is so flattering. I am in my 40s. I am wearing it confidently and I receive compliments and smiles all the time. It makes such a difference. You start walking like a queen and get treated like a queen. ❤️ I absolutely love it. ❤️
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Yes that is true! The black hat you bought at the end of the video was similar and beautiful, too. You looked good in all the hats...even the berets! Myriam the shop owner looked so glamorous in her cape and scarf. Everything in France looks so elegant...tres chic!
So glad you got the fuchsia hat! Looks fabulous on you. Glad to see that hats can be worn with short hair because i just cut mine! I just have the wrong style ❤ Great informative video. Thanks!
Just bought a new bordeaux coloured, widerimmed fedora last week. Love wearing hats, that is what I would call real hats, structured ones, not knitted beany type ones. The wider the rim the better. And yes that sometimes draws a bit of attention, but always positive. Just say thank you and good day to you too. It gives a smile on both sides of those little encounters.
Your face lit up when you tried on the orange and fuschia hats. You can tell they made you look and feel happy. The fedora and fur hats are very chic and will go well with your wardrobe and various activities.
I could watch you two ladies all day long trying on hats and explaining details! Maybe see summer hats some time? Boaters? Straw? The fuchsia hat with the black patent band was gorgeous on you! Merci, again.
Happy New Year. I love this video. I wear a hat most days so really enjoying watching this again. I wish more ladies would wear hats. They are so much fun and always finish an outfit. Merci.
Ooh, I liked the black hat with the "puff" on it and the pink cloche on you best. I've had a maroon beret for years. I keep it for travel because it packs flat and covers my ears if necessary. I'm having a bit of "hat envy" now, because in Florida it's usually too hot to wear a hat except to keep the sun off your face and out of your eyes. I bought a beautiful pink hat in Brussels last year. Don't know what I was thinking. It sits in my closet because it's too warm here to wear it!
I love this video. I wear hats a lot, even though I'm usually the only lady around who does. I don't care. I have always loved them and have a "hat face". You look fabulous in those hats, and I'm so glad you got the fuchsia one. It's so YOU!! All three of your selections are perfect on you. Très Chic!! Vous est belle!
I liked you in the mixed Fedora/Cloche....the fuchsia and black seemed to really work well on your skin and face shape......Myriam is so knowledgeable and such a professional....very lovely lady....
I really loved the first gray hat, you put on . Even if it was with a, deep gray scarf, with a black coat , or jacket. Assuming these hats are for every day shopping, or errands, or walking the dog. The gray fur hat in very elegant, and sophisticated . Other men type hats , also looked-great , different , but at the same time it’s all you.
This is my absolutely favorite post! Thank you for this. When your time permits, would you be willing to do a post on perfumes. Also, your house tour would a fantastic post. Its completely understand if you are private and might not be up to. Another option is tablescape French way. Thank you again!
I love the black one that you bought. Please share your experience in a video every time you go and purchase fashion and beauty items, I would thoroughly enjoy it
What a wonderful video! I love hats, but tend to wear toques and cashmere beanies because it's so cold in Canada. Love the structured hats on you the best. Your three choices all look amazing on you! I especially liked the first grey hat you tried as well.
Bonjour Marie Anne, I loved the fuchsia with the bow and the mens fedora in black. They suit you beautifully. I love hats and have purchased a few. They make a lady look so elegant and put together. Merci 👍🥰
They ALL looked great!! I loved the all of the felt ones! Personally, I love a structured hat as it protects my head from cold, rain, and even sun more than the unstructured ones!
I love hats. You look beautiful in everything you tried on. I always look at a lady who wears a hat. I can’t look away. She looks so elegant. This was a wonderful video.
Merci Marie-Anne! I love all your videos. Just sitting down now to enjoy this video about hats. You look great! Wishing you a wonderful weekend and happy advent! 🎄🌟
You looked so chic and natural in the more structured styles, and not at all over the top. Even simple hats will get you noticed anyway in my experience. Once I visited Paris in this season, early December, and I knew it would be cold. I wore a black velvet hat with grey faux fur trim, a bit like a Russian hat. It was made in Italy and I bought it for around $20US at TJ Maxx! Was so happy to be taken for a Parisienne!!! Still have it and love it, also wear berets all winter here in Pennsylvania USA. ❤💂♀️👩🎨❤😘
I LOVE hats. I thought you looked great in all of them, but the pop of colour was stunning. Love the fuchsia hats and the berets. And the ones that covered your whole head but were classier than a beanie. Great video. A very knowledgeable lady.
First of all, I loved hearing the two of you speaking in French! Sigh... The hat you wore out of the shop is so smart on you! I also loved the first few hats you tried! You look lovely in hats!
great choice of hats. Beautiful. I wish we had an expert headwear fitter in the UK. I have never been able to find a hat that suits me, I am 72 yrs of age. Thank you dear friend. x
The fuchsia structured hats look amazing on you. The colour really suits your skin tone. The black is too harsh. I loved the fuchsia with the small black band around. Magnifique!
You looked great in all of them to me ! I am a serious hat person I normally don’t leave my home without one year round . I loved the hat band advice for my husband he has a small head . Thank you I loved this video !
I think you look best in the fur hats, specifically the first one with the black. It is very elegant looking on you. Also, as your face is thin it adds depth without being overwhelming. I purchased a similar one at Nordstrom years ago. I was a brunette at the time and the carmel coloring complimented my hair and skin tone. I have silver/ grey hair now. I am on the hunt for a burgundy or midnight blue one. The right hat can make you feel wonderful and is a great accessory. Tres chic !
Love the hats you chose. Amazing how beautiful you look in black! And fuchsia, and grey! I stick to redhead colors- olive, copper, orange, teal, ivory, gold, camel, golden brown. I look best in berets and have worn them all my life. Cotton in summer and wool for winter. Sometimes I wear a scarf as a headband with the beret over it and tilted more to one side. I did feel a little uncomfortable wearing them when I am in France as if I were trying to look French but the nice woman in a hat shop assured me it was ok!
Yes the black fedora, hat is not too high and brim is not too wide, perfect. The pink cloche, well who can resist. The fur hats you tried on may keep you warm, but that is all. Sorry l am being so blunt. Also love the cute cut of your hair when this video was made, it has a lovely sheen and really suits you and quite youthful. 😁
my goodness i like EVERYTHING....what a heavenly store.... I use to go to one in Georgetown, D.C., but burned last year and they did not reopen... which is a real shame... I would love to try EVERYTHING...and i specially like the 3 first ones on you... Also i love Myriam outfit!.
I’m going looking for the second pink one.....oh wonderful. Your petite head size lends you to wear a lot of styles......hats hats hats I love them all and have a wardrobe full of mine and my late mother’s💕 a fantastic hat shop in Bordeaux has seen me with more than one hahahaah
This was great Marie-Anne! I too love my hats!!! I own a black wool fedora that has one side of the brim tilted down, excellent on cold windy days. I also have black, pink and a grey wide brimmed wool hat collection, also summer weaved wide brimmed hats in both black and white. And a black full fur hat for our extreme cold days of winter of -40, and finally, in the garden a moss colored 'Tilly' hat, almost cowboy style, with mesh net around the circumference. I love them all!!! Thank you again for this video! Raven
That pink cloche hat is exactly what was winter school hat in dark grey. We used to do all sorts of horrible things to it . For meetings in Melbourne in winter would not be without a hat either a fedora style or a beret on really windy days. As I am very short I always wear a hat that matches my coat colour...... But Marie Anne is there not a certain etiquette around whether you take you hat off or leave it on when you go inside... Another great video. You always do so much great work
When my husband and I married, he always encouraged me to wear a hat in the sun, to prevent sunburn on my face.

I LOVED this little mini-class on how to be fitted for beautiful hats!
I Love the hats you purchased. I like hats too. They really finish an outfit & I love how i feel when i wear a hat.
Of course I knew you would buy the fuschia hat ! You look amazing ! Thank you
So enjoyable to visit the shops and learn French while looking at hats! Pink is definitely your colour!
I really loved the first gray hat, you put on . Even if it was with a, deep gray scarf, with a black coat , or jacket. Assuming these hats are for every day shopping, or errands, or walking the dog. The gray fur hat in very elegant, and sophisticated . Other men type hats , also looked-great ,
different , but at the same time it’s all you.
I am so happy you picked the "fuchsia pink" hat. It looks go great on you. Gives more color to your face. Enjoy
Hooray! You bought the fuchsia hat!
She wore a raspberry beret.
Rockin' the black fedora.
Wearing a hat does need confidence! But once you start, you can't stop! You look lovely wearing a hat...especially the fedoras with side details.
That was awesome! ....so classy, so cool. I’m glad you bought a hat! It looks wonderful! Bravo
I loved the fushia cloche with the black band. It looks best on you!
Inspires one to wear a hat! I loved the fuchsia hat on you! Spectacular! 👒💄🛍
👍
Oh, I wish we had milliner here! I love a good, well fitting, classic cloche! So many lovely hats!
I agree with you-the bright pink hat is beautiful and looks fabulous on you! I hope you bought it.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Great!! It's beautiful on you!
This is my absolutely favorite post! Thank you for this. When your time permits, would you be willing to do a post on perfumes. Also, your house tour would a fantastic post. Its completely understand if you are private and might not be up to. Another option is tablescape French way. Thank you again!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I understand you completely - house tours. You got to do only what you love doing. Thank you.
Same feeling. Fall in Canada is too short to show off those hats :)
The one at 8:12 was a very pretty color on you. That was fun seeing you try on hats especially with Myriam helping you it was so interesting.
Love,you picked the pink...
Perfect..
Thank you dear friend. x
Chapeaux, foulards, gantes, mon Dieu! J’adore ❤️❤️❤️
The taupe/gray hat with felt on top and banded in fur looked exquisite on you, Marie-Anne!
The fuschia hat looked stunning on you and lifted the whole outfit.
I like the Fancy one, fedora type, beret and the smaller fur hat. Gorgeous.

The fuschia was great but the fedora style was the most versatile. Glad you got both.
Myriam was so generous with her expertise. It makes me want to explore hat shops in San Francisco.
