After I played through the original Fallout years ago, with subsequent playthoughs I came to see the skeletal remains of a previous dweller from Vault 13 as a bit of foreshadowing. It let the player know what fate awaited them, whether they completed their task successfully or not. Letting you return was never in the cards.
The "Choose Your Own Adventure" books comparison is a perfect analogy & one I used when describing my interest in RPGs with my priest. They were quite popular in the 80s & I spent countless hours trying to find the various endings.

I know this wouldn't really work nowadays because the Fallout franchise is delberately expansive and always growing, but I kind of love the idea that the only places which were nuked and plunged into a post-apocalyptic world were the places directly shown in the Fallout games... Like, the rest of the world is perfectly fine and unaffected, but nobody in the rad-zones know this as all lines of long-range communication are cut (like telephone lines being destroyed, and radiation causing interference with radio signals) so they have no way of hearing about it. All anyone outside the US knows is that all America suddenly went _dark_ following a massive nuclear strike sometime in late 2077, but the extreme radiation made it impossible at the time to stage a rescue or reclamation effort so they just wrote the whole country off and de-escalated the various wars after seeing the consequences.
Therefore, by the time of the first two Fallout games, the rest of the world outside the US has basically recovered and returned to the normal course of history (at least, in terms of the alternate timeline established in pre-war lore, with valve technology being used instead of transistors etc). If you asked a Brit or a German or a Bosnian or an African in 2277 about America, they would probably know about as much about it as the average person today would know about the Aztecs - some dead civilization which ended suddenly, and isn't really relevant to their modern life. The rad-wastes that used to be the North American subcontinent woud probably be thought of as similar to the Arctic Circle or the Gobi Desert - there's probably nothing of interest there to the man-on-the-street, conditions there are way too extreme to bother going to look and it's just an obscure bit of half-remembered world history.
I just like the idea that everyone in post-war America assumes that if _their_ civilization collapsed then the rest of the world must've gone the same way, while everyone else in the world just kind of moved on treating the destruction of a large portion of the US as a cautionary tale and a reminder not to let things escalate to that degree again. Maybe it was a big enough event at the time that it spurred a movement towards complete nuclear disarmament (although I doubt it - more likely, there would be a _scaling down_ of nuclear arsenals across the world but they'd still keep a few warheads around just in case), and nukes would be looked upon in the same way as bio-weapons in that it's considered "bad form" to use it in large-scale warfare rather than a legitimate first-strike option. Besides that, development continues more or less as before - maybe even getting around to inventing transistors! - and by the late 23rd century the rest of the world is maybe a little ahead of our 21st-century real world with smartphones and electric cars and all sorts of miniaturised gadgets becoming commonplace.
Presumably it would be a post-fossil-fuel society (since by that time there would be none left) and it's unlikely the rest of the world took the atomic energy route after what happened to the US, so maybe solar or other renewable energy sources have become the norm and combustion engines and nuclear reactors would both be thought of as a primitive dead-end (not trying to get political here, but after the Resource Wars I can't see any other way the world could continue otherwise).

I love how mormonism still exists in the fallout universe simply because they couldn’t be nuked out of existence, and because of this we have one of the best characters in the series, Joshua Graham.

Regarding the Master moving, Grey says in his logs that he needs to move to Cathedral before his body loses its ambulatory abilities. Presumably he was once like a centaur in his ability to move.
This is the most cohesive ive seen a video on the COD zombie storyline because its so conveluded but this was really good. I've played the games for years and i understand the story for the most part but its so complicated it feels difficult to wrap my head around. I'm super excited to watch the next ones
I hope when we finally get the sequel to NV, they make the Yes Man ending cannon and he goes mad with power, then Skynet has to reemerge from seclusion to help put a stop to his cheery tyranny.

He would probably look like Goris if we ever saw a prequel. Big and ugly, wearing a cape to hide the fact that he's falling apart. And a third "limb" coming from his stomach. Kinda like "alien"'s mouth.

I would like to say as a writer. By the way, that's saying the timeline doesn't diverge until after World War 2 does not necessarily mean that there are unique offense before that. It just means that the timeline itself didn't change due to any events until after world war two.

A couple minor errors in reading the original posts that might lead to some confusion...
"Xianity" is an uncommon abbreviation of "Christianity" (X = "cross").
"Holly" in "holly hand grenade" is a typo and should be "holy", and is of course a Monty Python reference.
The topic or raiders and their lifestyles and customs is really interesting to me. Id love to have a game put that side of fallout into the forefront, maybe having the main character originating from one of the known raider groups already present or a new one created for the title. Maybe there can be a vault that, instead of becoming peaceful or having overall good intentions, was purposefully meant to develop and condition the dwellers to be a raider like group, but they have all the tech and benefits of having come from a vault. Either that or completely separate from the vaults like with the courier from new Vegas. Either way, I think that could create a really interesting story and conflict with difficult choices for the player (continue raiding, leaving the raiders, trying to reform the group, etc) I know that fo4 has Nuka world, but I think that’s different since you sorta take over the raiders instead of being born one.
If referring to Zax chess game in Fo1 you can win and I did it. Almost died form rad poisoning but Zax congratulates you and you get a XP bump and you can ask to play again
steam trucks make sense in the fallout universe sense since you dont need a refined fuel to still be laying around and in good condition, just water and a burnable material so for any powered vehicles steam makes sense imo
First, Lore wise this world and the fallout world look more and more similar as time goes on besides small nuances... Idl if its just me but that fallout bible seems real. Atom shine down wisdom

Love your videos man, fallout has had my heart since I played New Vegas for the first time. What's your take on the Dead Money DLC? It is narratively my favorite and I honestly look forward to it each playthrough, but it gets a lot of flak. Thanks for your great work Rad Dad🍻
Thank you! So my opinion has changed with time. The first play through I struggled with it, since it was counter in some ways to what I expect in a fallout game. On subsequent play throughs though it has become my favorite. I think if people replayed it they might have a different opinion.

I have a bit of a problem with the way people in the Fallout community talk about the divergence, especially some TH-camrs including yourself. I will note I love your channel, and this a very specific criticism. Something I hear time and again is this idea of multiple small divergences. Truth is, that doesn't make any sense and is completely unnecessary. The divergence can be as small as something as a single coin flip going differently, and the effects of that change build up over time. Many things would continue to happen unaltered, which is why many of the things that happened in our universe still happened in the Fallout universe. Multiple divergences cannot happen. Once the divergence happens, it is a separate timeline and no longer has a parallel to diverge from again. Things would simply happen slightly differently because of the butterfly effect of the original divergence and do not constitute other divergences (in comparison with our timeline). My personal theory is that the divergence didn't even happen on Earth. The divergence happened with the Zetan's long ago which eventually resulted in them coming to Earth and bringing the effects of the divergence to this planet. Their meddling and abductions caused slight changes in the way the history of Earth played out.

Are you planning on doing videos about the different lore in Fallout 76? I've been playing it and I think there is plenty of quests in the game that would benefit from your expertise. The first comes to mind is Calvin Van Lowe. He has a very interesting story but it's hard to piece it all together naturally in game.
I haven’t focused too much on specific quests or characters since there are a number of channels that present that lore in a nice narrative. So I haven’t seriously considered this.

Honestly for the civilians of southern cali to not know who the master is would make sense let’s be honest and realistic rq.
A: the only thing the public was aware of was kidnappings and disappearances
B: at the very least the public became more aware of not just deathclaws no longer being just myths, but super mutants as well
C: outside of us the player and a handful of others who are more then likely deceased with tree bro being second to last alive (deceased as of fallout 3) Marcus is the only one left alive(new Vegas) too know who the master is . Or what even went down hell most of the wastelands no matter which you pick still don’t know where Super mutants were made or created

hearing all these peoples stories, people that you never even meet or see, it makes me wish there was a small fallout game released between now and fallout 5 where you play as one of these groups.
maybe as just one of earlier expeditions, you aren't changing the world, you're just running as a caravan guard living a normal life. encounters are hard, but with your group of npc followers all with the same equipment, taking on a few raiders becomed easy.
maybe you can select whether to play as a caravan guard, or the merchant, maybe even play as someone from a trading company that plans the routes and assigns the guards, trying to make a profit by seeing how little the amount of guards you send on specific routes to make more profits.

You know, the Enclave scientists would *also* be Enclave citizens, they would only wear their lab coats when working (realistically speaking) as it's PPE, that goes OVER your clothes, and it gets dirty and exposed to stuff so you don't want to be wearing it everywhere.
Like we're potentially talking about a dude that got off the oil rig and traveled miles to a town and you're saying it's not possible for it to be a scientist because a scientist would be in a lab coat because they wear those while at work on the oil rig? How do you know one of the citizens in a vault suit aren't an off duty scientist? That's... Um. *An* argument, I guess.
I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm only calling you out on this since you called Chris out on it with a hilariously poor argument that essentially boils down to "people can't change clothes" which is just silly.

what i want to know is how in the world did the master not know about the enclave and vice versa considering the master integrated with the bases mainframe and the enclave still ran the network those computers ran on
i also must add how disappointed i am at the fact that bethesda is actively against the idea of talking deathclaws and will never bring them back gorris and xarn are alive and as long as they mate with a female deathclaw of anykind their offspring would be intelligent so there should be a very small population somewhere but nope

But they can't reproduce. They death race, that you propably could wait out.

the raider children mod for fallout 4 is amazing. it solves that little immersion problem with the lack of raider children but also there's nothing quite like seeing a child run at you with a knife before blowing their head off with a shotgun
