A couple things I didnt mention in the video, if you have this code and none of the injectors are leaking, and you dont have a leak in the high pressure line then you almost certainly have a failing Injection Pump! Also if you watch the cylinder contribution test again you can clearly see Cyl 1, 2 & 3 all are contributing less than the other bank because if this issue. Good lucky and happy wrenching!!
To wrap things up for anyone curious looking in the comments, I ended up installing all new injectors and harnesses that the last shop had damaged(most of the injector plugs were glued to the pigtails) and got her running again and after several miles to clear the cat out the smoke is gone and the truck runs smooth!
I have a 2015 Ford Expedition and its hard starting and when it does start you can smell gas fumes. Im getting an error code on both banks. Would I be correct in saying it needs a new HPFP?
Had similar experience, engine lost power, started skipping and shaking badly, changed the spark plugs and coils, still doing the same issue, so I had it diagnosed and the fuel injection on passenger side was not working on 1 and 3 cylinders, but pressure test was great, changed all the injectors and now running like a new motor again 😊
I haven't found any other info on ProDemand, Indentifix, google or youtube for this issue I'm having. Your video is only one that almost answered my drivability issue until I read your comment below, that's totally accurate. I see the HPFP pid drop to near zero when I shut of the truck and thought that pressure is supposed to hold for longer than that. plus the long crank time is there. Cold engine starts up fine until it warms up after awhile then it misses on passenger bank badly as seen in the scan tool. No injectors leaking and secondary ignition is all new. injection cleaning done, premium gas, tank treatment, you name it, nothing is solving this. I think the HPFP is bad because of the symptoms and I know the tank pump is good running 60-100 psi at times. All I needed was testing procedures for HPFP and normal operating condition parameters. Thanks.
Came here looking for a solution to a similar problem thinking I had already replaced cylinder two spark plug and coil, only to find out I changed cylinder 4 coil and plug. Thank you sir
Thank you! Glad to be back! More project videos will happen this fall, will do what I can once in awhile till then but lots of other helpful content hopefully in the meantime 👍👍
Thank you for the video, it helped me a lot. I have the same problem on my ford flex ecoboost, I just replaced the injector on cylinder 6. Do I have to change the engine oil?
Hey compa grate job since I see your first video I know your good but after a few videos you are one of my heroes in TH-cam now you have another's fun and suscriber thank you for compartir información
Good information. I have p0087a and b. When I do a pull even 1/2 throttle all of a sudden it seems like someone turned off the key and right back on again. Very jarring on the drive train. My bdx livelink shows all kind of wacky things happening. Dealer couldn't find anything. Would you have any ideas?
I'm having low pressure in both banks, with the psi ranging from 11-30 psi. Check engine light is on, and also hard to start. No smoke is coming out the pipe. Your thoughts
Great diagnosis! Just wondering is it possible to clean these gdi injectors by connecting otc tool (fuel cleaner pressure can) to the high pressure pump feed line ...
Additive wont do much for you. There may be a couple things out there that "help" a little but these are still mechanical parts that experience failures once in awhile, good practice would be to replace all at once, but understandably on some places where labor might be cheap it may be more affordable to replace the one. Long term it still will be more expensive though to do them all one at a time, not to mention more potential for mistakes and issues every time things have to be pulled apart. If you have an issue in the future with another one I would recommend replacing all of them.
Losing power when accelerating off and on in my 2015 Ford Fusion 1.5 liter. Rpms will spike but the car won't go anywhere until it gains power again. Power feels weak when it does. No shifting issues. No check engine light yet. What should I do?
Hey man i have a f150 ecoboost 3.5L turbo model, im having a P0087 code only when truck is idling for over 2hours. Fuel pump in tank primes at all times even when truck stalls n shudders. I changed the high pressure sensor on fuel rail and HPFP and still having the problem. Been chasing this for two weeks pls any feedback will be great!!
So I have a Ford F150 3.5 eco-boost turbo 2016 and I have a misfire I recently had to misfire on cylinder three and five and a low voltage on Bank 2.I had to swap the coil packs around from 5 to 6 and 3 to 4 and turned out my coil packs were bad so I replaced all six and my truck ran good after that definitely did not do anything it was doing before. And that was about a month ago from today and I just got another misfire on cylinder five
My 2011 3.5 shows low pressure and if I do get it started put gear it dies but when it starts it’s got a loud squealing noise at the back of motor does anyone kno what the noise could be I pulled valve covers everything looks good
I have a miss fire in cylinder 3. I changed the spark plug and coil pack still having the miss fire. The spark plug doesn't smell and oil don't smell either. Was in the middle of getting into the injector before I saw this video. And not the same symptoms. What should I do?
I have 2011 Taurus sho same engine I had the long engine crank as well and it was a stuck injector I had my cat replaced as well because I hear this symptom can damage it. Everything is good now that injector was replaced mine was #2 too on first gen ecoboost.
If that is pumping out smoke like crazy you should have seen my truck. I had to get off the road out of visibility safety concerns for other drivers. My passenger side turbo oil was leaking into the intake and exhaust.
My Ecoboost is misfiring under load and not throwing a code. Could it be the hpfp? I changed all the plugs and boots, also cleaned all the sensors. Has top end power but very sluggish on the bottom end. Having it looked at, but I'm still curious. Thanks.
Usually an HPFP will fail in a way that it cannot supply enough fuel under load. It really would be impossible to say without looking at it myself, this video is just to help others troubleshoot, may or may not be applicable to many different situations.
A head job? Injector removal will be the least of your questions and concerns. Sorry but I dont have a video on that for you but either way its not that different than any other engine when it comes to that job.
Good job 👍 you're doing exactly you're supposed to ask tons of questions the more you ask the quicker you get to the problem how long have you been doing this anyway I got 50 years under the belt and I still like working with the electronics I physical attributes aren't letting me do the mechanical aspects but the rest of the thinking I can do keep up the good work you're headed down the right path

Getting fuel to my high pressure fuel pump on my EcoBoost. But nothing out the cylinders.
