  • We got together probably the best adventure helmets on the market: Arai Tour X4 vs. Shoei Hornet X2 vs. Schuberth E1 vs. Shark Explore-R vs. Klim Krio. We already tried three of them in the last years since riding across the world on adventure motorcycles and we observed the differences between them. Here's a short guide on how to pick your new adventure helmet.

    Hi guys great review as always👍🏼😎 I have had the Arai X4 & used it on a BM S1000RR as well as a Husky Nuda 900R. When I changed bikes I just took off the peak. I found it fantastic in our Australian summers & good in the cold but maybe not in the middle of winter. My bikes hibernate like me🤣 I sold the Arai some time ago with a GS800. But this Aussie summer I will get another Arai! Cheers from Down Under

    Cool that nexx is sending you one for try it.
    I have the x.wed2 as well, after try the arai/shoei/airoh the Nexx was the perfect fit for me.
    Is the one with best specs from factory, base for action camera, pin-lock, bag for visor, has a nice aero also on highway with the peak, 3 shells sizes, etc.
    In Europe is cheapper than the top brands, and the quality feel is as good as them.
    Give it a go and keep up with the good work!

    Come on guys. You know your stuff, but this was so unstructured. Sound was all over the place, camera work was all over the place, product topics were all the place, etc. 17 minutes of messing around with helmets leaving the viewer to concentrate where the relevant information is. It doesn't have to be fully scripted, it does help to have a basic plan and a good filming setup. Look at FortNine, now that is some next level content!

    Don’t overlook AGV too. Have an AX-8 mx and adventure helmet and they’re surprisingly comfortable for the price.
    The klim krios can be had for a bit cheaper without the branding. It’s called Nishua Enduro.

I recently watched your video to Patagonia and noticed you were wearing the BMW gs trophy helmet. please comment on that helmet compared to all these helmets. what would you recommend a year later as the best adventure helmet out there. I value your opinion as you do a lot of riding.
    thank you in advance.

    Safety is priority one and reason for wearing a helmet. Proper fitment of a helmet is crucial for a helmet to do an effective job, after that it’s safety certifications are equally important. Here in the U.S. a SNELL rating is the top certification for safety testing. Aria and Shoei have this Certication. For quality of “fit and finish” the Aria and Shoei are top shelf. For me these helmets are also the best fitting and best looking helmets. Both companies have invested heavily in racing sports and have long histories of success and proven track records. Too many helmets are bought and sold that do not fit properly. People should learn how a helmet should feel when it properly fits.

    • @DriveMagRiders
      @DriveMagRiders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We couldn't agree more - doing research before buying a helmet and making the right choice can literally save one's life. Not to mention it completely changes the riding experience. We wrote about SHARP Helmet Safety Scheme, which is mainly used in Europe, but we could maybe come up with an article on SNELL too.

    I really wanted to like the Arai, but I have the same problem you do. Something about my head shape creates a painful pressure point where the chin strap stitching presses against my jaw on the left side. Couldn't stand it for more than a couple minutes. I haven't been able to get my hands on the Shoei yet to try that.

    I enjoy your video guys but you missed the safety features of each helmet. Also you should probably add to the adventure line up the Bell MX-9 with MIPS technology. If you guys are not familiar with that it’s the way of the future. All the helmets you mentioned are from well know companies but they either lack emergency pull tabs or don’t have the energy management system for impacts. Just some food for thought...

  • @Coldgecko
    @Coldgecko 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely a stressful topic. I am a long time C3/C4 rider with probably 100,000 miles on them around the world. I love the modular feature to cool off and quick stop and fill gas without taking off helmet.... But I guess on my next long 6 month trip to Africa -- time to review again. I'm so stressed about the idea of changing. I love the drop down sun visor, and integrated speakers. I am seriously looking at Klim which I have heard mixed reviews, Arai which is an ICON but has zero features and the Shoei, another ICON and has Transitions visor. I would love the E1 updated so I could stick with Schuberth... I have the exact same visor issues with my C3's and C4's but its fine, I just replace and they are so comfortable. Are you still happy with Arai helmet with zero features, now that you have had it for a while? Do you miss the modular or integrated sun visor?

    They’ve failed to mention with the fact that the most ventilated helmet is also tends to be the noisiest one. I’ve own an Arai TX/XD4, I love its big and wide visor, it has a more round shaped SNELL certified shell (better impact protection) and because of that it is heavy. However, it is a noisy helmet (but acceptable) if compare with Schubert E1 and Shoei Hornet.
    The Krios would be perfect if the front vent is close-able for dust and rain, and I suspect it probably is more noisier than Arai XD/TX-4 due to its vent size.

    • @brazilfm98
      @brazilfm98 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are they quiet when the vents are closed ? ie the vents are causing the noise ?

    • @Caesar.Aquanaut
      @Caesar.Aquanaut 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brazilfm98Yes, the in-helmet noise level of the Arai XD/TX 4 is slightly noisier due to the side vent ports and the brow vents. I would say it is around 3-5% noticeable when comparing with the Shoei's Hornet. Shutting up all the vent ports would probably reduce the noise level, but because of where I live (Malaysia), we have summer all year round here. So, I usually rides with all the vent ports fully opened. Although my Shoei Hornet is quieter even when I have all the vents fully opened, but it has smaller, less vent ports and less air ventilated than my Arai's. So, I guess it is purely up to you to decide if you are willing to compromise a little bit of ventilations for quietness. If that's a concern for you, then you should be looking to get yourself a Shoei.
