    I like what you did with the exception of ventilation. It is rather easy to keep helmet well ventilated in 8 degree weather. It is very unfair comparing helmets ventilation at 8 degree and another one at 24 degree.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback! For our road test we mainly focus on the temperature difference that the helmets are able to achieve. So, though the two helmets were tested at different outside temperatures, we were still hoping the Hornet ADV would have provided a stronger level of ventilation. In addition to this, we have tested numerous helmets in similar 30 degree weather, including the Schuberth C4 Pro and AGV Sportmodular, and have found that they were able to stay cool, being one degree less than the outside.
      What are your thoughts on the two helmets?

    • @eddie2613
      @eddie2613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Completely agree. I get the delta calculations but there is a third variable - riders head and heat coming from it. You now have 3 temps to calculate deltas from and it's just not correct way to do it.

    The most important thing about a helmet is fit. A video is a good way to put give you some good options, but the main deciding factor is going to be how it sits on your head. After going to a shop and trying both on, the shoei fit me perfectly while the arai did not. It was a very easy decision after that.

      Our pleasure! For ventilation, we'd definitely go with the Arai Tour X4 over the Shoei Hornet ADV. In addition to this, the Arai will also come with a few extra interior features that will improve the Tour X4's comfort, which round it out as an all around excellent adventure helmet.

      @@Championhelmets thank you once again, that's another valid point for Tour X4. I did not have the chance to test them but besides ventilation I like Hornet's features: possibility to remove the peak without the tools, possibility to remove / replace the visor without removing the peak and that I can use gogles just with the visor on the upright position. When it comes to the looks that's definitelly point for Arai but this is just my personal preference.

    It would have been good to test the helmets on the same day to see if the ventilation was relatively much worse on the Shoei - as an absolute difference is useful but not the whole story. 🤔

    It’s biased on the ventilation because if it had been colder the shoei would be better than the Aria , also you neglected to say that the Aria lets in rain in certain vents because you cannot shut them.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When looking at the ventilation of a helmet, we always compare them based on their temperature difference to the outside. We have tested out numerous helmets in both warmer and cooler conditions and still gotten the same strong results as we found with the Arai. In colder conditions, we have also tested out helmets and found that they don't perform as well, as with the Hornet ADV.
      However, the point on the Arai vents is a good one since there are two always open chin vents, which may let some water in while all the Hornet's vents are adjustable.
      Thanks for the comment!

    Had four Arai helmets in the last 10 years. I absolutely HATED them all! My last RX7 and Tour X4 both had the plastic bits braking off all the time (air intec) and had to be replaced with new. Both are super heavy and uncomfortable for long ride.
    No more Arai for me!

      @Ignas2fly ปีที่แล้ว

      6 year of using Rx-7 no problem with ventilation parts/plastics. But we had to change some ventilation int/exh parts for our customers. Weight - all ece-22.06 helmets (if they have) are now 6-12% heavier except Arai, which stayed the same. So weight is not an issue anymore 🥰

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible that helmets perform differently on other bikes due to different fitments, riding positions, and fairings. Nonetheless, the data we collect is always the data that we show. We do our best to bring fair tests for all helmets, which means using the same setup between helmets and checking the average airspeed to ensure a proper comparison. Both the Arai and Shoei were tested with airspeeds ranging between 110-120 km/h, and both showed an average result of 102dB on our meter, which has also proved about standard for the majority of adventure helmets that we've tested so far.

    So I am about to buy a new helmet. My options are between airoh commander full carbon, shoei hornet adv and probably the arai tour x4 which has a very good ventilation system due to your review. On my head airoh commander and shoei hornet fits perfect. If I choose the arai I have to replace the materials from 7 to 5. I live in Greece which means that the temperature most of the year is over 20 to 25 degrees and in the summer over 35 to 40 degrees celsius. So that means, that if I get the shoei it will be a big mistake i think. Any thoughts about the airoh commander full carbon? Thanks a lot!! You are doing a very good job!! 🙏

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is possible to get a proper fit after changing the liner of the Tour X4, then that would be the option we would go for. As was shown in our test, the Shoei Hornet did not offer a high level of ventilation with a 6 degree difference. When we tested out the Airoh Commander (the results of which will be released soon) we also found it had a poor ventilation result with a 12 degree difference to the outside. Both the Shoei and the Airoh seem to suffer from not having large or enough brow vents to adequately bring air into the helmet.

    The test has a flaw. Fitment should always take priority as a baseline in choosing the right helmet. Some or all of the scores on either helmet could have been better than the other purely based on the fitment of a particular helmet on the tester.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For our road tests we try to keep them as comparable as possible so the material, weight, and visor categories are independent of our rider. For ventilation, we place the thermometer between the liner and the helmet's EPS and for noise we do the same but place the microphone in the ear of the helmet so we try to reduce the impact of fitment. Though it is true that different people will experience the helmet a bit differently depending on the fit. Would you go for the Arai Tour X4 or the Shoei Hornet ADV?
