    Tony, Great review I have the same helmet and believe it or not I never knew the chin vent throttle system inside learn something new everyday. Appreciate your input on this helmet I have had a few in my time but to be honest this one is hard to win-over centrally mounted and balance is amazing its not until you put back on your own helmet and say Geeezzzz what a heap do you really truly know this helmet is the best by far.

    I have the X4 tour matching my Africa Twin Tricolour love it fantastic helmet good review all of these positive comments I have experienced in the 9 months since I bought my Arai the second I have owned and in my opinion it’s the best of the three helmets I own.

    I have just bought one of these from you. It’s a thing of beauty. The quality is 10/10. I have used arai helmets for over 30 years. They are just the best.

    Great review. One of the few which actually talks about safety ratings! You'd think this would be the most important factor to consider....just an update...SHARP have now tested at least one peaked helmet: the caberg tour max (modular) got 5 stars from them, but the chin guard only stayed down and locked in 87% of the SHARP tests, which, at least in my mind, sounds dodgy enough to keep looking for a non-modular, full face helmet.....

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. That Tourmax is an interesting case and I'd not spotted it before, so thank you. I'd say SHARP tested a Duke and have given the Tourmax and Duke a shared rating based on that result. SHARP list 'Duke and Tourmax' as one helmet and the picture is of a Duke. The ECE 22.05 designation on the strap for both the Duke II and Tourmax is identical - not surprising as a Tourmax is clearly a Duke II with a peak screwed to the mounting point from chinbar to main helmet. As for the latch ratings - my stats suggest 28% of flip helmets survived all impacts without the chinbar coming undone. But then 100% of non-flip helmets survived without the chinbar coming undone, so I take your point. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    Hi there just wondering if goggles fit with the visor fully retracted ie save taking it off when I’m trail riding .

    Excellent helmet quality but the size doesn't match your head. I bought a Large, suppose to cover from 59 to 60 cm on an oval intermediate but it just goes to 59 and I am a 59 1/2. Constant pressure on the forehead. The said change the liner for a medium one but no success. End up selling it, love that helmet.

    Hi Tony! I have the LS2 MX436 helmet , I know it's a pretty budget helmet but the wind noise after 60 km/h its so annoying that i wanna throw it away! So I am thinking to buy a new one and i am between the arai tour x4 and shoei hornet. Which one do you think is the quiest or which other adv helmet do you suggest? Thanks alot!!

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike. That's a tough question as so many other factors influence the noise (for example, just turning around and riding in the other direction made the Shoei Hornet ADV much quieter!). I found the Shoei quieter than the Arai, but that was on different bikes (V-Strom 650 for the Shoei, Yamaha Tenere 700 for the Arai). Sorry I can't be of much help there, and I hope you find the helmet that works for you. Cheers, Tony

    I'm thinking about getting one of these but have been given conflicting information on whether you can adjust the peak up/down depending upon sunshine/ brightness? Can you adjust the peak or not? Thanks.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you loosen the screws that hold the peak in place by about half a turn from fully tight then you can pull the peak up or down, which gives a range of about 4cm at the tip of the peak. Cheers, Tony

    HI Tony and thanks again for the review. I am looking at the X4 as a replacement to my Caberg Tourmax that i dropped a few times already. I have a Tenere 700 too with adjustable windscreen and an extension. My Caberg does buffet at the peak badly unless i adjust screen properly. Some X4 users state sticking wheel weights underneath the peak and swear by it helping. Any comments on that please?
    Also, i have a Cardo freecom 4+ that ill be looking at switching over to the X4, any issues with that?
    Thanks again.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I can't say whether the wheel weights would make a difference but it sounds like there's plenty of experience out there on that one. As for the Cardo, I asked our shop team this morning and they had no hesitation in saying it would fit the TX4. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    I am hearing some feedback about vision distortion due to that hugely curved visor. Can you comment please?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for getting in touch. Adventure helmets are never perfect on that score, for exactly that reason. Some are worse than others, though, and I don't have anything in my notes to say the Tour X4 gave distorted vision, so it couldn't have been a particular issue for me. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

      @@sportsbikeshop thank you. I will take your word for it. But that’s the shame with such expensive gear. One has to shell out tonnes of money to test for oneself if the gear is suitable or not. There has to be some way in which one can rent and try such equipment for a period of time before taking the plunge. I have flipped so much gear after being unhappy with it, it is not even funny anymore. Seriously, I am so frustrated that I currently ride in my shorts, flip flops and a simple open face helmet. Much better to be comfortable I suppose.

      Until March 2020 our Leeds store had a trial service just as you mention - riders could take a helmet from our demo fleet and test it on the road for an hour to help them make a decision. Covid put a stop to it, sadly. Also, Arai declined to supply demo helmets so the Tour X4 wasn't available. If it hadn't been for those two issues, it could have been just what you were looking for! Cheers, Tony

    Had four Arai helmets in the last 10 years. I absolutely HATED them all! My last RX7 and Tour X4 both had the plastic bits braking off all the time (air intec) and had to be replaced with new. Both are super heavy and uncomfortable for long ride.
    No more Arai for me!

    • @Ha3731
      @Ha3731 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally understand where are you coming from, but it is a reason for this. Compared with other helmet manufacturers, Arai is one of the few that doesn't make holes or use fixings to hold the air vents and spoilers to the helmet. They use double-sided tape. This way they don't compromise the integrity of the shell. Got a Chaser X for the past 3 years, and after 2 years and 10,000 miles, all the add-ons started to drop off. Unfurtunatly Arai this is the only helmet manufacturer that fits my head shape.

    Is it true you can adjust the visor just by pulling it up and down without unscrewing anything?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not unless someone, somewhere has a secret trick up their sleeve. Both the visor (the shield as it's known in the U.S.) and peak (U.S: visor) are secured by screws. The peak isn't height-adjustable as far as people here at Sportsbikeshop understand it. You either have it on, or take it off. Thanks for getting in touch, and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

      Every day is indeed a schoolday. Yup, it'll do that. You'll need to make sure the screws are slightly loose, though - I'd say half a turn back from fully tight. We'd say it's about 4cm of range at the tip of the peak. Thanks again for getting in touch, and we consider ourselves better educated for your intervention! Cheers, Tony
