Without doubt, the best money we as a group have ever spent was the Cardo Packtalk. As you say, listen to sat nav, excellent, coffee break, no problem, any other breaks or issues you can sort, quickly and safely. Ours are 5 years old, they get used a minimum twice a week when we are out as a group, then all over Europe on tour. Being as I am retired, mine has had more use than any of the others, its still great.
Healtech Thunderbox is the best thing I bought for my bike, makes installing & powering up accessories like aux lights, dashcam, additional 12v socket etc idiot-proof. Next is the Cardo Packtalk, absolutely invaluable when teaching roadcraft skills to my newbie biker wife.
I too use the Thunderbox. Great bit of gear. It powers my Zumo XT, power for my Denali driving lights "smart" relay, Quadlock wireless phone charger and power to a TPMS (my fifth one now, I think - they all eventually die) off of Ebay. And I also have the Cardo Packtalk Edge. Bluetooth between it, the Zumo and the iPhone, it makes for a good "infotainment" setup. One thing that I did was to hard wire in an Anderson plug to the battery with an inline fuse. It sits below the right side cover. My battery charger has the anderson plug fitted as well as a small Motopressor compressor. Just a matter of plugging and unplugging external to the battery compartment which sits under a difficult-to-access bolted down seat.
Some alternatives and other handy gear: AA battery trickle charger/conserver for bikes and cars £30. Noco boost plus GB40 battery booster/starter/power bank/flashlight £90. Aldi 40 litre roll bag £9. NICECNC motorcycle accessories (at a fraction of the cost of OEM CNC parts. Oxford Rider belt, worn by the rider has two handles for the pillion ( much better than rear grab rails ) £28.
@@iShriek Good point but I already had the GB40 for use with my Campervan, some engines are hard on batteries, the GB 40 will give more starts and also act as a big power bank for all your gadgets when touring.
Definitely agree with you on Calimoto. Used recently for a tour of mid Wales and some of the loop routes it conjured were truly amazing! I think that it will get better as the community evolves and shares more insights of their favourites too.
Love my cardo packtalk had it for years and the battery is still good and it’s been used in all weathers. But by far the best cheap accessory was a set of Rok straps, far superior to bungee cords and much easier to attach to a bike. I never want to be smacked in the teeth with a bungee cord hook like what happened to a mate on a bike trip, that noise will haunt me forever! haha
You can get tire deflators that we use in the States for off road trucks. They are available from four wheel drive shops or Amazon, Ebay, and many more places. Some are automatic in that you can set the pressure that you want for air down.
Tip for battery charging (I am a dry day summer +14c rider now) I have my OptiMate 2 charger plugged in to a TP-Link Tapo P105 and set a once a week 8 hour charge schedule. As the Tapo is wifi you can set a schedule, in this way the battery dis-charges and charges again (I have a tracker and alarm) and it is not constantly on charge cycle. The Tapo device power's on / off on the schedule you set it to. Nov - Mar when bike is parked I start the bike for 5 min every 2 - 3 weeks and its is a first start everytime. I keep the tank full of petrol and washed and cleaned before the winter parking months.

Great video. Thanks John. Regarding battery maintainers, I understand that the BMW R1250 GS needs a special CAN-bus charger if charging via one of the bike's power outlets, however can an ordinary maintenance charger still be used if connected directly to the battery? Thanks.

They make it really hard to buy that Visio Dry if you're in the US. I was going to pick some up to see if it would help with my hockey face shield to keep from fogging on the inside, but it doesn't seem to be available here.
The best tank"ring" for a tankbag comes from Shad. It is the pinsystem. Could you please review that? Ist is ellegant with a rockfast attachement of the tankbag. Much nicer then an ugly ring on your tank. And the tankbag quality is superb.
Are your slippers fitted with a goretex liner and a hydrophobic outer or had you treated them with some of that visor magic spray? I'm old fashioned and wear wellies when cleaning my bike.
They're fully certified safety slippers. They have a hygroscopic layer that takes in the water, separates the hydrogen and oxygen, stores the oxygen in the man-made super-fibres to reduce my weight when crossing dangerous surfaces and to reduce foot fatigue, while oxygenating my blood through the lining. That's what the salesman told me anyway!
You could use the hydrogen in a fuel cell to generate electricity that could then power the washer and therefore offset your carbon footprint. They could be a best seller?
There is no worse feeling than buying something with hard earned cash, to discover it’s rubbish. Find these videos really helpful. On security, please please please take a look at the almax security chain. They never seem to get reviewed anywhere. I have had a couple and they are the absolute business when it comes to motorcycle security, but would really love to hear your take on them against the competition. Keep up the great work 👍👍👍
Thanks! If you have a look at all the lock reviews I've done on BikeSocial.co.uk you'll see I have done Almax. Happy to do more with them, but haven't heard back from them for a long time...
I bought an Indimate for my Himalayan 450, but haven't been able to fit it yet. The cables to the LED indicators are just too thin a gauge to risk using the connectors supplied. Would be grateful if anyone has come up with a solution to this as I haven't been able to find a suitable connector.
I've been using the Quadlock with vib-dampener for my iPhone for the last four years with no problems at all...a couple of months ago l installed a USB regcharge unit...all beautifully homogenous..Well made products..highly recommended..
@J_Dos46 Quadlocks design stems from their development as pushbike mounts where vibration was never an issue. It wasn't until they started getting used on mountain & motorbikes that people started to have problems, hence the optional extra. I agree however that they really should make an integrated unit that includes the antivibration in a neater package, the current arrangement is a bit of a mess.
Depends. If there's no parasitic drain at all on the bike, a healthy one should last a few months. www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/advice/bike-maintenance/how-to-choose-charge-best-bike-motorcycle-battery
21:00 It is possible to set your gopro to loop recording and hitting record saves the past 30 seconds onwards until cancelled, using modded software. Works for me.
For the bike mount comparisson you should look at the peak design mobile moto mount. Much slimmer and sleeker design and has built in vibration dampening. The phone case is also much thinner and better ecosystem
I don't have one yet but hoping to buy one for my 2 bikes litelok x1 as I commute to London and had 2 incidents with thieves trying to steal my scooter, there is no GPS tracking device in your accessories. I got about 9 accessories more or less from your list like SP Connect great stuff 👍
Check out the product reviews on BikeSocial.co.uk as I've reviewed most trackers. Also Google 'best motorcycle tracker', and scroll past all the sponsored links.
I've been running the Litelok x1 on my bike for around a year and a half, my bike stays locked up on a drive on a public road near Oxford city centre (although under a security cam), and I park around the Oxford area almost daily. Have never had any issues, I'd imagine since it needs a decent angle grinder with multiple blades to get off, thieves don't even bother unless they can pick the whole bike up and get it in a van.
Thanks, very enjoyable! Gadget-wise, I’m liking the gizmos that give you CarPlay and Android Auto in a tablet-like or phone-like device for cockpit mounting. Maps always up to date, no subscription, and all the handy features of CarPlay or AA. I’ve had Garmin and TomTom for years, much prefer CarPlay.
I have a Galaxy Z fold 4 and I've been looking for a good/secure way to mount it to my Harley. The really only option I see is the Ram X large. Anyone else have any luck mounting their large (phablet) phones?
The Oxford Running lights look useful but apart from the Oxford site directing me to small bike shops near me, which probably won't stock them, has anyone found an online store where I can get them?
Some great gadgets there, but I can’t do without the Quadlock. Get a call and I can see who it is before it auto answers, and the fact I can see the satnav is handy too.
Hello. I have VFR800F 2017. I am desperate to install a fog light. But I don't know where to install it and what is the best support for it. Is there any decent in the market. Thank You
Could you review motorcycle car play / android auto navigation screens. I bought a 7 “ color touch screen that is HD quality. At $200 it was a much cheaper option then Garmin and I don’t have to worry about my phone camera or removing my phone each time i stop.😊

Interessting video. Got some ideas. The Hex exCAN in particularly looks interessting, if it works like advertised? Since its directly connected to the power, does it mean all connected accessories will be powered directly from the battery? Only once the ignition is switched on or once the motor / alternator is running or can this be customized? Looking for the Yamaha Tenere 700. Thanks

Hex need to improve the EZcan. No wireless connectivity (my AMPlink has it) and I notice sometimes it changes the settings on its own and the Soundbomb works intermittently.
Wireless would be great (through an app on the phone even better), but in many years of use I've never had a setting change. Have you contacted them for support?
@@bennettsbikesocial I have had it change 3 times in about a year. They don't have much logging in the device so there isn't much they can do other than check the current settings, which I can do. Since I have a Black Dog Cycle Works pillion plate, which is a PITA to take off and put back in to line up the bolts and spacers, it's a project to get to it. Wireless connectivity in this day and age seems like a big gap.

Great to know ,I own three units and only one is inside warranty now, I will be looking for a better sustainable company when they die. Thanks Cardo would have been nice to know this when I was buying them!!
I've not used that, though they don't appear to do a vibration dampener (and it's very pricey). I've not spoken to anyone at Peak, but as a photography geek too, they do have some great designs. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial John, thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm watching* your video about counterfeits right now, good stuff! As for the PeakDesign dampener, I believe it is built in from the start! And as you've already disproven at least 1 FortNine claim regarding the cutting time of a chainlock which they claimed 4 minutes and you did in 5 seconds, maybe this would be another one? Their claim was that as is, the PeakDesign outperformed both Quadlock and SP connect by a huge margin "on average 218%* vs SP Connect" less vibration*. It's a new French product... Maybe it's on a slow boat over?!
@@HUSKY7-1pun intended on the footprint?!
@@bennettsbikesocial being honest I have missed it. I will look it up. Thanks for the reply 👍

I've never had any use for a battery tender or tester. I ride 365 day and night. My battery is always good because it's always charging while I ride 😂
The best way!
I bought an Indimate for my Himalayan 450, but haven't been able to fit it yet. The cables to the LED indicators are just too thin a gauge to risk using the connectors supplied. Would be grateful if anyone has come up with a solution to this as I haven't been able to find a suitable connector.
Fodsports is also a quality Bluetooth headset, the volume and sound quality is spot on as I can hear it over my stage 2 indian scout
Do I for sure need a bike charger? How long does it usually take for the battery to discharge?
Might give the Ring inflator and Oxford Chair a go, both seem very convenient and useful
Are you planning to test Oxford Cliqr with the rest of the mounts?
Unfortunately Im not in the UK but thanks for the tips.safe cycling.
Can't get VisioDry in Australia? Not even online that I could see.
Hot grips are an absolute game changer when it’s cold out!
When it’s cold, ok, but on a hot summer day i find them too hot.
Great video! Very informative.
Brilliant as always, thank you John!
Thanks for watching! Cheers, John
Great go to vid for a newbie thanks
Rechargeable bicycle lights, on flash mode, can last over eight hours. No wiring, and can be had for £20/30. Enough for a day's touring for me.
Great stuff John.
Only disadvantage with these systems is that if your phone goes down, you have no nav. Cheers, John
Thank You
What bar ends r the best for vibration
Usually heavy ones
Could you review motorcycle car play / android auto navigation screens. I bought a 7 “ color touch screen that is HD quality. At $200 it was a much cheaper option then Garmin and I don’t have to worry about my phone camera or removing my phone each time i stop.😊
The Australian designed Forcite helmet is great as a communication/navigation/dashcam or GoPro substitute (maybe a very early model GoPro).
You might want to consider an AirMoto as it has an air release button. I've been using an AirMoto for three years and it's still going strong.
thanks for the app suggestions, Can you add speed to these apps, if I have a map displayed It would cover my factory speedo. Any navigation, I really would love to have speed available.
i dont keep charger on battery have others to charge my garage stays warm if its colder takes from batters a little more
accumulator based things on motorcycles in low temperature outside is always short fun.
Thanks

Great video I’m definitely gonna be getting the jacket and the rain visor spray thing ! For anyone that needs a air pump I use AVID POWER Tire Inflator Air Compressor and it is by far the best purchase I have made for filling tires up that are flat on my bike or car
Thanks! Hadn't heard of them - which one do you have? avidpowertool.com/collections/tire-inflator
@@bennettsbikesocial I have the gun Avid Power Cordless Tire Inflator Air Compressor. On Amazon I think the tire inflator air compressor and battery with charger is like $56
For phone mount please review peak design phone mount. Is it more easier & safer to use.
Great one! 💖💖💖💖
is the quadlock video almost ready?
Getting there...
Excellent vid, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks mate. Indimate was a cracker.😄
John, the ring tyre inflator, what's the max psi?
What a great video John, thanks for sharing, now that 's a proper Xmas list! 😁👍👍👍
Thanks very much!
What is the device in your title frame that looks like some sort of canbus power adapter? It’s not the one you reviewed?
That's the Bluetooth adaptor for the Carpe Iter BMW control - it's what plugs into the loom to allow the Whizzy Wheel to control an android device. Cheers, John
Thank you!
Thanks, some useful stuff mentioned here.
Pretty cool stuff, I live in Canada if it wasn’t so damn cold and snowy I would ride in the winter.
Living in Alberta you are lucky to get maybe five months of riding minus the rainy days. I ride an aprilia RSV1000,I remember seeing bennetts insurance from buying Superbike magazine for years.
Anyone know who can FIX CARDO Packtalk units outside of the warranty. I emailed cardo support and was told to "BIN IT" as they will not fix them after the 2 year warranty is up.. !! Great to know ,I own three units and only one is inside warranty now, I will be looking for a better sustainable company when they die. Thanks Cardo would have been nice to know this when I was buying them!!
I think a better title for this video is - Crap you don't need and will clutter up your life. Just ride the motorcycle.
Who shit in your pie and asked you to eat it ?
Just let your bat die in winter then huh
@@connor3010 it takes about 30 seconds to dc a battery cable 🤷♂️
Totally agree. Just ride.
Well it’s neat to know about stuff that’s out there. But agree that the less stuff we have the better.
Please include PeakDesign's bike mount!
(Added in at the end of their most recent video on bikemounts*)
@@AlarmedJuggernaut8 oooh, that is interesting. It might have to come later unfortunately, but will have a look. Thanks!
For a commuters that Visio Dry stuff would be amazing, I'm going to give it a test. I found other water repellents not that useful even at all esp in city due to the lower speeds the second best solution was to use a good quality visor wiper but this in theory would be much better even more so than those visor blade machines 😄
