    You see it in every martial arts style-- bad head movement. Whipping your head around like a bobblehead is a dangerous habit. So, why is it so common?
    I think the root of the problem is the illusion of speed and power you get when you shake your head. As an experiment, try standing still while you whip your head around. It feels like you're moving fast and strong, doesn't it? But you're really not!
    This delusion is why martial artists looking to add more speed and power to their punches, kicks, and kata, start rocking their head. Which only helps the bad guy beat you up! You're shaking your own brain!
    No, I’m not talking about bobbing and weaving here, I’m talking about whipping your head around for no reason. Instead, you should challenge yourself to develop speed and your power without moving your head.
    Keep it safe! Don't be a bobblehead! :)

    • @AndoMierzwa
      @AndoMierzwa  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, for starters, I wouldn't do two or three spinning moves in a row! Of course, the old dancer trick of "spotting" works well... you know, where you fix your eyes on one spot, then when you turn around, put your eyes back on that spot right away. Outside of that, just keeping your head straight and practice!

  • @quach8quach907
    @quach8quach907 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hmm. Thinking.
    In tennis your head is there to point your eyes to the ball. You have to keep your eyes on the ball all the time for incoming balls to judge the speed, distance, height and outgoing the same to calibrate your hand if you hit too hard or too soft, too high or too low, too left or too right.
    The head movement in tennis is purposeful.

    A good example for this, watch at how stiff mike tyson keeps his head and neck as hes doing his head movements. The movement all comes from his hips, legs, and back, not his head or neck actually. Head movement might be a slightly misleading term.

    I've never tried it. Only watch it on TH-cam. I think the best sport for developing head movement is Headis. It's a real sport. It's like ping pong, but played with a volleyball-like ball using your head like in soccer.
    Offensively for headbutts it would be awesome. And I think it would be awesome for defense and evasion too.
    Look up Headis. It has the monopoly on head movement.
    Going back to Mystery of Chessboxing, where the Kung Fu Master disguises himself as a Chinese Chess player (they always do that, In Iron Monkey, he disguised himself as a doctor/pharmacist, in The Karate Kid, he disguised himself as a handyman, Yoda disguised himself as a tiny elf, etc . . .)
    Look at the King in Chinese Chess, 將. It is like a head that moves inside a small area, bobbing and weaving and using the Advisors 士 like shoulders to hide behind ala Floyd Mayweather. In Japlanese that character 將 is Sho as in Shogi, the game of the Shogun. Also in Sho' Nuff, The Shogun of Harlem.
    Headis has a monopoly on head movement.

    Good video. Made me think much deeper.
    The Mirror Universes, ala Star Trek.
    The Mirror Universes of Dance and Martial Arts, with the bridge universe of sports.
    Some things are common to all 3 parts of the Mirror Universes.
    Somethings are bad in the mirror universe are good in the other mirror universe.
    Swinging your head wildly, bad in Rocky, good in Flashdance for self expression. I seriously thought the dancer in Flashdance was gonna snap her neck!
    When I watch dance, I have a dyslexia. I can appreciate the sophistication of dance, but I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me. I only understand it if it has a counterpart in the martial universe. I'm a chess player.
    It is OK. I am happy with my dyslexia. I know things. Important things. Like why is a butterfly powdery? The powder sticks the spider's web and the butterfly flies free. I know the endless offense and defenses of Nature, the endless chess game of Nature.
