I've actually got in the habit of sipping on a mixture of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice squeezed from real lemons, pink rock salt and water , sometime carbonated. Far as I know It has next to zero calories, and it helps me stay hydrated throughout the day. Comes in great handy in the summer. I dont chug it , either. I drink till my body says it's not thirsty. I also drink regular water throughout the day as well

ACV is awesome but be careful you can drink too much, it lowers potassium in. I know, I had to lower my potassium once and used avc to do it.

That's exactly what i did too, picture your on an island, with nothing, and they brought you a simple black coffee once a day. You would have a whole new appreciation for that simple coffee because the bar for satisfaction has been lowered. • @cherylh4688
      @cherylh4688 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@janekelley2001 I'm not Sarah, obviously, lol, but just thought I would toss in my 2 cents. First, if you haven't already, I would read Dr. Jason Fung's book on diabetes. I think it's called "The Diabetes Code" or something like that.
Then, if you are considering keto w veggies & have no serious inflammation like arthritis, I recommend the videos of Dr. Berg for "healthy keto" ideas, but he basically recommends 2 meals of mostly one large green salad (7-10 cups veggies) each day in addition to your various meats, seafood, poultry, dairy, &/or eggs and fats (tallow, butter, ghee, duck fat, bacon fat, olive oil, coconut oil & avocado oil). A typical break-fast for him might be a steak, ground beef, salmon or other meat + eggs + bacon & maybe some avocado. Then for dinner he would have another serving of meats or seafood + his huge salad
There's also an online group called "Eat like a bear"' who eat only one meal a day consisting of one giant salad + a serving of animal protein.
And Dr. Ewyes, also, altho' he & his wife & child, are carnivores who eat almost no plant foods except maybe a little avocado or olives, says that along w your meats & fats, you can add any non-starchy veggies, esp greens & broccoli, & in any quantity, both for obesity & carb addiction, as well as for diabetes. You just can't have any processed foods, fast foods, grains, rice, or potatoes (starchy veg) or anything else that triggers you to overeat.
If you have any arthritis, auto-immune or other inflammatory issues, however, I would recommend you also read Dr. Gundry's "The Plant Paradox" for a list of plant foods to eliminate bcz of their "lectins." But transitioning to a carnivore diet might also be warranted in that case, at least until you have rebalanced your body & healed your gut.
But bottom line, both the keto & carnivore diets have had great success w type 2 diabetes.& the carnivore diet has even had positive results recently w Typw1 diabetes.
      Hope that helps a little.

Water is great especially if it tastes great, like pure spring water. The problem is almost no municipality is going to provide that. Do yourself a favor and visit their website to see what else is added to your tap water. In the meantime, I'm sticking with CORE water (there are a lot of similar products ..SmartWater, Fiji etc) Once I stopped drinking tap water, without stuff like fluoride added it was much easier to recognize the difference between hunger and thirst. As a carb addict, even small changes can make a huge difference.

I've eaten a low carb diet for 30 years now and last year my blood work showed my sodium levels were low. When you eat a low carb diet most people need to increase their sodium intake and if your sodium is still low as mine was the doctor limited me to no more than 50ozs of water daily unless I'm working outside. It quickly returned my sodium levels to normal so be aware that more liquid than you need may create other issues.

It's hard to find, but diet tonic water is really good, not for the quinine although some like that, but rather because a can contains 250mg of potassium, and no other soft drink I know of has that. Also, since going keto, I find I crave bitters rather than sweets, so yes, it's possible to crave endive and romaine lettuce ^^

Not daily, but occasionally to boost my calories for the day (when I have no more space for food), for calcium, & also to exercise my insulin channel every once in a while because I’m usually zero carb as a carnivore. I am still loosing about a pound a month with lots of body composition change, which is more than enough for me. I have 13 more pounds to goal, & I’m willing to stop the zero to twice a week milk if it starts to not serve me. I’ve tracked what it does to my blood glucose & ketones & I get less than a 30 pt bump in glucose & it comes down easily. I am open to changing my habits based on metabolic changes.

Curious. Don't drink your calories but okay to drink alcohol? Multiple addictions are to be cautious of. If I'm already aware of my carb addiction, are other addictive substances wise? Love the model of carbs being an addiction. This understanding explains a lot. I'm revamping my daily food routine.

    1) So you're against bone broth?
    2) I put a squirt of lemon or lime in my water and tea. Technically, it has carbs, but it's super low-under half a gram per tsp. I had to stop using stevia/monk/erythritol except during/after meals, and rarely use any other sweeteners at all, as I don't buy them. These can all effect insulin, and I'm looking to lower my insulin resistance, which is currently around 8 (ideally, should be 4.)
    3) I tried to be an alcoholic, in college, and found I'm not (my dad was.) I used to drink about one or two drinks a month, usually red wine, sometimes bourbon and diet lemon-lime. I stopped drinking alcohol for the arbitrary period of one year when I started doing keto over a year ago. I still haven't had a drink, but that won't keep me from having a glass or two wine at a social occasion, if it happens.
    4) I also decided to limit my caffeine to lower my cortisol. For warmth, I've been drinking a ginger/turmeric herbal tea more often. I also drink oolong, green and black tea, and occasionally, coffee once or twice a day for catecholamines.
I cut back on caffeine because I suspect it is robbing me of electrolytes, which I have trouble maintaining without supplementing if fasting-even time-restricted eating-and I do add sea salt and NoSalt potassium chloride to my food.

He avoids questions pertaining to cephalic insulin response, artificial non-narural sweetners and aspartame (formaldehyde metabolites in the liver), like the plague. Why? He probably drinks a lot of the stuff himself regularly. These are addictive and provoke an insulin response, which cause fat cell weight gain if you fail to train your muscles regularly (Carb sink). As long as he does not show the rest of his clothed body in something like a T-shirt and shorts, we will never know. But that's totally irrelevant.
He is also missing the point: It's the Insulin response and the activation of mTor that we have to keep an eye on! Blood sugar is an indicator of "Insulin Resistance" primarily, Carb intake secondarily.
Carb Addiction is totally cephalic (1. The taste, then 2. The rush)! He makes his money as a bariatric surgeon, permitting the people to continue to cater to their cephalic addictions with artificial sweetners. Just because Methadone is a replacement for Heroin, doesn't make it right. The craving remains. Ethically questionable.
But here's the really strange part: on 98% of everything else he says i totally agree upon!! Also, i can't stop watching his episodes because they are so to the point and devoid of extraneous biochemical charts and statistics that only MDs like me can understand. A very likeable guy. I will stay subbed. I apologise if i made opinionated statements that offended anyone. The rest is easily proved.
      Cheers!

This is so helpful! This is what is missing from so much advice. Not understanding addiction and the need for something ELSE to fill the void left by the elimination of the carbs. We need that little break, especially at stressful work, that lets you exhale as you did:)). There is an amazing book about hard drug addiction written by Dr. Gabor Mate about treating the addicts who use the Safe Injection site in Vancouver BC. Wonderful book called, 'In The Realm of the Hungry Ghosts'. There are many parallels between carb addiction and drug addiction or shopping addiction. THANK YOU DR CWYES!

Dr. Berry mentioned once about a cephalic response that can be triggered when something sweet tasting hits the tongue so that the pancreas can issue insulin for a sugar payload. I am doing OMAD and drink Diet Coke/Fresca and not getting the results others are. I’m sure my 57 year slow metabolism is contributing and I was previously diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. I was wondering if I should cut the diet drinks out to keep insulin down.

Opening your detox pathways can be helpful.
Also have been seeing that low vitamin D can make losing fat difficult. Getting adequate sunlight can be helpful.
Supplementing minerals to help detox can help too.
