    I'm 73, lost 50 lbs on carnivore.5 yrs ago. Never gained any back. I've never felt this good. Have great bloodwork. Walk 2 miles a day. I will never change. Why would I !!!! Eat mainly beef, butter, eggs. Some pork, some chicken. No veggies, no fruit, no grains. I love it. On no meds. Loving my life !!

      Hey I'm just interested (not trying to pick a fight) about some other things you believe (or don't) believe in. Do you think global warming is real? Do you believe the COV is really a threat to humankind? I realize it's off topic but I'm seeing a pattern and am curious.

      @@ant208 I'm mostly carnivore 90% I still use spices, occasion alcohol and pot. Once in while I'll eat sushi (rice+fish)

      @@matchu4444 I'm only on since Nov 2020 and down 30lbs another 20 to go and gained a lot of muscle. I workout 4 times a week only doing heavy weights. Only supplements fish oils as I hate seafood and I take dimm to get rid of all the bad estrogen.
      I don't think Cov is as bad as they make it out, not saying another virus can't come along and be more aggressive.
      I believe in global catastrophe cycles and humans have little control to prevent this and I believe we are in a cycle now.

    After I was diagnosed with diabetes the dietician said “It isn’t that you can’t eat corn chips, but just eat one handful of corn chips.” This was absolutely impossible for me to do, I chose abstinence from corn chips.

      I can't control myself 🙂 I won't buy a bag and set myself up like that. that bag of carb will cry out to me till I eat the lot then hate myself feel yuck so i dont buy so I don't punish myself with this whole drug-dealer/crack addict cycle!!! 🤯 If it is not in the house I won't F A I L my goals! 😇

I’m in Oregon so your awesome o can help u with some info for women 52 with a complete hysterectomy keto two years I’m my height is 5”2 petite I use to be skinny then gained Becuse if my parents died etc Lott’s stress but I’m sugar free low carb calorie free I walk over a mile a day with my little dog thru the park I intermittent fast daily usually one meal a day as well I’m frustrated spent a fortune on food making sure it’s whole clean I’ve researched I’m about done I’m down forty but gained ten lbs back trying to loose that I just wanna day fk it trying to be healthy my arthritis fibromyalgia my 9 surgery’s I found out spinal arthritis too so I don’t know struggling I try carnivore but It works but I’m a moma my children are grown etc I love to cook but anyways I’m going ur talk so fast couldn’t get adress for text last time I couldn’t get ur phone number plz sir slow down but your awesome I’ve been a subscriber for awhile but I would throw some bucks if I could hey help in worn out thx

      @@andrew2869 Nope. I can devour pork crackling in the same manner I devour sourdough. Sourdough is typically just flour, water, and yeast. Pork crackling is just fat.

    Dr. Cywes is the only doctor I’ve seen on YT that treats this as a carb addiction. He doesn’t JUST promote a Keto/carnivore diet which won’t persuade most carb addicts/abusers at least for the long term. Seeing refined carbs as a drug/slow poison made it easier for me to sustain my ketovore lifestyle after I relapsed last year. Even though I’m 5lbs overweight and in my 20s, I figured now is the perfect time to prioritize my health not take advantage of it. Thank you doc for the videos!

      I also changed my mindset to define high glycemic foods as slow poison. It really helps with day to day decisions. Now and then potatoes happen, but with butter, sour cream, and green onions. Small portion. Then fast.

    When I am strict carnivore I do great at weight loss and maintenance. But the minute I start adding anything, low carb veg included, my cravings kick back in and the grazing starts all over again.

      I didn't have much of a choice.. I needed to take drastic measures. I had high blood pressure and diabetes which caused a heart attack. I reduced my carb intake to 20 or less a day(cream in my coffee). After more than two years it's become easier to refuse all forms of food that isn't MEAT. And as a result I am no longer diabetic, my blood pressure is normal and I'm medication free. My pant size is reminiscent of 40 plus years ago. I plan to continue this till the good Lord takes me home.

    I just love how honest you are. Carb addicts wear their addiction on the outside. There is no hiding it. First Keto now carnivore has changed my life. It is a journey of learning and tweaking. 90lbs down..never going back.

      Typically meet and greens and salad is Keto, carnivore is meat or animal products only.
      I'm guessing that she made the distinction of going from one to the other suggests her understanding of carnivore is not the same as keto.

    I've been on a Keto diet for five months and have lost 40 lbs. I took a bite of my granddaughter's Dunkin Doughnut last Sunday and was shocked at how god-awful and gross it tasted. I had to spit it out! I used to be able to clean up dozen DD's by noon on a Sunday morning. Sugar is going to kill us! Having said that ... it's not going to kill me! Great video Doc.

    Man, 57, I started Keto +OMAD + 10K steps a day, on November 12th, 2020 and I lost 113 pounds (315 to 202) and I never felt better. I was a type 2 diabetic, had high blood pressure, and was on statin drug as part of a daily cocktail of medication. I am currently off all medications, Keto is working very well for me and is a lifestyle I can live with.

      Same here. Now 57. I started keto 3 years ago. In my case it was obesity, a 30 year history of chronic severe refractory gout (no longer responding to treatment with the maximum daily dosage of Allopurinol), and early indications of pre-diabetes. Seeking a non-pharmaceutical solution to pre-diabetes is what guided me towards keto. Within 3 months on keto, gout and pre-diabetes were completely gone with no meds, and lost 30 pounds (6' 0" tall, 245 down to 215). By way of keto, I had unexpectedly fallen totally ass backwards into a 100% effective treatment for my chronic refractory gout. It was certainly something I was not expecting. I was understandably angry and bewildered that 30 years of doctors and rheumatoid specialists had never told me there was a simple 100% effective non-pharmaceutical treatment for gout. A simple google search for keywords "gout" and "keto" quickly cured my bewilderment. I now keenly understand that my interrelated metabolic problems all stemmed the same root cause. Years of hyperinsulinemia caused by chronically high blood sugar which was in turn caused by a daily diet that was high in carbohydrates.
      I first learned about the benefits of intermittent fasting and autophagy about 9 months ago. Now, no more than 2 meals a day, often just one meal a day with no snacking. Also added some occasional extended fasts from 48 to 72 hours for the benefits of autophagy. Also added daily walking over the course of a few months working up the distance to where an 8 to 10 mile walk is now easy and feels good. Weight fell another 50 pounds over the course of six months down to a stable 165 pounds. Just did a same day (18 hour) down and back out hike of the Grand Canyon a couple months ago. Felt good during and after arriving back at the rim after midnight. I could have kept going. Never even came close to feeling tired or exhausted.
      Looking back where I was just three years I could never have imagined I could be where I am today. Extended family and friends I haven't seen for a while are all like WTF did you do? with a follow up inquiry wanting to hear all the details. Wanting to be helpful, I have many times tried to explain how simple, straightforward, and easy it was, but the message just goes in one ear and out the other. People just want to hear about some quick and easy new supplement, pill, or procedure. For my own sanity and peace of mind, I now resist even talking about it any more. If pressed, I just say I caught a tape worm while vacationing in Mexico. That usually ends the line of inquiry pretty quickly. I have come to the sad conclusion that like alcoholism, you can't help people until they are ready to be helped. Although I haven't entirely closed the door on talking with people who are genuinely and sincerely interested, I have more or less adopted a new philosophy of Res Ipsa Loquitur, "The Thing Speaks For Itself". I just don't want to talk about it anymore with people who aren't really open or interested in the answer.

    I did keto a few years back. Strict adherence. Lasted one year, lost 145 lbs. Soon as I started to introduce carbs back, the weight came back easily. Gained more than half back. I understand the carb and sugar addiction. Gave up soda over five years ago. I have to completely eliminate things, there is no having 3 chips for me. Back on keto and losing again.

    I always shoot for zero carbs, knowing that I get some from salad dressings, vegetables, etc. But I absolutely say no to the things I know I shouldn't eat like bread, ice cream, fruit, sugar, etc. because I know (from experience) that I cannot eat a limited amount of it. It's the only way.

      Coming from Greece to the US, I never understood the appeal of salad dressings. Not only from a health perspective but from a taste as well. Olive oil and some vinegar always does the job for me, maybe I add some crumble feta or cottage cheese if I’m looking for something creamier. Dressing is so easy to skip or take out of the diet.

    So many years hiding and binging on cereal and. milk, cookies, pies, crackers, chips. Could never have just one - thank you Dr Cywes for teaching us the truth of carb addiction. Since going LCHF I have maintained my 40lb weight loss for 2years. This is a first for me.

      @@tinarussell6656, right? But whole grain cereals are good for us, especially with low fat milk....(sarcasm). The American standard diet is the biggest public health emergency perpetrated. It has led to a huge carb addiction problem especially since fat was demonized. Our grandparents ate berries with cream, and butter on veggies and lived to 100.

    I started my fight against type 2 diabetes 3/15/2021. Today is 3/5/2022. I am no longer diabetic. In fact, I am not even prediabetic. I lost 40 pounds (174 to 134). The problem I had was that I was thinking of this dietary/lifestyle intervention as a way to return to be able to tolerate carb again. Well, now I know that that ain't gonna happen. Dr. Cywes is absolutely right about fear being a motivation factor. Yeah, I don't want to get cancer or dementia.

    It's easier for me to stay keto because it helps me manage my chronic pain. I also feel my best while I'm fasted.

    I do keto and it saved my physical and mental health. It’s scary the effect carbs have on me. They make my physically ill and exacerbate my depression. Now my mood is better than ever and it’s just not worth the cheat - it literally forces me into bed. I do admit carbs “sneak” back easily. But I have to quickly get back to basics. I really have to think about modifying keto downward to achieve my goal. So this was helpful.

    I totally agree Dr Cywes, when I began to watch my diet, after being told I was diabetic, I decided for myself that it was easier to totally give up many carbs (grains, cereals, pasta, etc.) than it was to try to "manage" my intake of these foods. When you're told that it's okay to have a quarter cup of rice with a meal, I told myself I'd never stop at that quarter cup, and it was just easier to stop eating rice and try to forget about it. Perhaps a little like giving up an old flame or lover, if I continue to see them, even occasionally, I'll never be able to give them up, forget them, and heal. Thank you for your wise advice and counsel. I love the fact that you're courageous enough to tell us about your own carb addiction (McDonald's McFlurries and M&M's), and that you blazed a path to help heal yourself.

      That’s exactly what I did when I started keto/carnivore it helped put things into perspective for me. It helped me not cave into the cravings that my mind was trying to convince me were okay to have. He kept me going strong when I was super weak.

    I quit smoking by constantly telling myself, "Never tell myself , 'Just one won't hurt." It was an exercise in self-awareness. It has been 26 years now. Now, I am doing the same thing with fasting and Keto diet. 2 months in, I have lost 22 lbs.

    Well said. I did low carb for arthritis reasons. So when I mess up I get pain. I have been able to fully transfer to a fat adapted person much better then those I know who focus on looks over feeling better with a diet. Looking like a Greek God was a surprise to me. 3 years now took off 60lbs the first 8 months. And I have kept it off with out issue

    I think any ex-smoker who comes across a keto or carnivore diet instantly understands. There is no going back, there’s no sneaking one now and then, it’s no cigarettes or a pack or more a day. In this way, changing my diet to keto has been much easier because I wrap it in the same package. I don’t have birthday cake when it’s someone’s birthday, I don’t have any of the cookies grandma brings over for my kids, I don’t have alcohol I don’t have soda because like smoking it’s all or nothing.
    All that said, I think you’re right. The large majority people simply don’t possess the will power or mental fortitude to succeed with such a restrictive diet‘s relative to their high carbohydrate lifestyle. Especially hard is the inability to get away from sugar and carbohydrates. It’s pretty easy to stop hanging out with all your friends who smoke. You stop going to the bar, stop drinking for a little bit maybe use gum or lozenges and before you know it’s your ex-smoker. Best of luck removing yourself from environments full of chips, cookies, cake and other junk food. It’s quite literally around every corner just waiting for you. Imagine if smoke shops were as prevalent as fast food restaurants and that’s convenient with drive-through‘s and TV commercials and advertisements in the newspaper. My point here is we need our governments to acknowledge how unhealthy all this crap is and start placing restrictions on how it is marketed to the population the same as they did with smoking.

      we must focus on building our personal beliefs and knowledge, which builds our consistency. I mean, just how much arsenic would be "ok" to ingest? 😁 I came to understand that, for me, sugar is poison and I cannot have a bit. gradually I have eliminated grains, starches, and now even low carb keto products. I am working at finding alternatives to eating for boredom, stress, lack of motivation, tiredness, and so on. (I have tended to eat as a break between activities.)

    I’ve been carnivore for almost 2 years - down 140lb. I’ve never tracked a macro or a ketone. The way I explain it is: I pay more attention to what I don’t eat than what I do eat.

    Keto & omad & from time to time 24h to 48 no food at all. Why? Because I can :D
    Actually, I feel much better after 24h without having eaten anything. No fatigue, no hunger.

    I'm a guy & can certainly relate to pain as a motivation to lose bodyfat & reduce my inflammation. I was on LCHF over two years until relapsing. Now I'm back on the wagon longing for the benefits of lowered blood glucose.

      Try adding intermittent fasting. I haven't been able to get mom on keto, but IF was easier for her. She's gone from a 10 to a 7.3 A1c, just doing IF w/o a diet change.

    I'm in my 15 mo. of carnivore eating. I'm lean and fit in my late 50's. My adult kids think I'm too skinny and scrawny. I'm at my post-high school weight, and have been maintaining it since late 2019, before my hip replacement surgery in Jan. 2020. It did take some months to become fat adapted and go into states of ketosis.
    While my hip was deteriorating since 2016, and not walking properly, my legs did atrophy and I lost muscle mass. They are now improving and getting stronger as I walk and work in daily life and profession. Hiking is amazing now! My cardiovascular system operates and functions so much better with less exertion and bodily effort. I function so much smoother now! Why would I ever go back to eating carb-based foods again? They do not appeal to me anymore, and I have no desire to eat them. I now see them for what they are!

    I lost a lot of weight (50#+) about 15 years ago on a low carb diet (South Beach Diet). It came right back on when I got into phase two. I have been on the Keto diet for about 2.5 years now. I lost 55# and I HAVE KEPT IT OFF. It was the only thing that kept the weight off me with out calorie restriction and lots of exercise.

      I relate. I can tell if I’m grazing too much by my pants. I’m discovering fasting (not time restricted fasting but 2day + fasting) as a way to mix things up. Tbh, I don’t like feeling hungry or uncomfortable, the binge is overcompensating.

    I have been eating keto for 13 weeks. Yes, I sometimes want to have a piece of pizza or a bite of a cupcake (I love buttercream), but I feel too good to risk going off keto. However, I started keto to eliminate debilitating low sugar episodes (caused by hypoglycemia on standard American diet) and having quit nicotine two years earlier has given me the discipline to not give in to cravings.

    Great video! Superb! I am an alcoholic... ya, I exercise daily, and yes, I cycle keto when I can. Can meaning when I can! I surf, go to the gym, take care of my daughter, work, cook breakfast, lunch and dinner.... I have a hard time staying ketogenic .. my heart and soul is in the right place... my mind & addiction is not! I do my best, love my daughter, but struggle so hard with my diet. I’ve lost over 35lbs in the last few months but find myself drinking “undercover “ alone! Alcohol has never kicked me out of ketosis, but I am tired, weak and not 100%! I turn 51 tomorrow. I must say... videos like this keep me fighting and mentally positive as I fight myself for those I love 🙏

      Even as a retired couple, I would wait until too late in the day to decide what was for dinner and then be in trouble. Then One day I put an end to that! I took a few steaks out, a few lbs of grass fed ground beef and a roast and put all of it on dish towels on one shelf in the fridge. Ready for when I decide what I’m in the mood to cook. When I cook, I take something else out of the freezer and add to the meet already in the fridge. Always three choices available! I’m so thankful because it works for me. Just remember what has to be cooked so it doesn’t spoil.

    I appreciate your teaching. I gained 20 lbs during a period where I was suddenly in too much pain to walk 1/2 block for 17 months and became depressed. I eat crackers when I am depressed. I needed a plan, and I am learning from your videos. I am already losing weight and more active. I expect to do well because I LOVE vegetables and grow a large organic garden. and like meat. Crackers are no longer allowed in my house and sweets do not tempt me. I plan to create a food habit that is satisfying and for life. Thank you!

    Sustainability is key. Carbohydrate addiction is real - all of these “keto products” only feed the addiction to those of us who are addicted to carbohydrates. One thing I find that helps tremendously is to have a 36 hour fast once per week. Another great video doc.

    The goal is to get healthy and there is not a time frame or a point in which to say, I am healthy I can now eat however I want. a low carb/keto way is the way for a lifetime. I have lost weight doing this, I need to lose more, it this is about total health not just losing weight.

      @@robertcywes2966 yes indeed. And eating keto, low carb, IF has given the tools to change my addiction to carbs. It was amazing that once I became fat adapted I wasn’t having cravings. I wasn’t dreaming about food. It has helped me to change and deal with my behaviors. I didn’t realize I had this was an addiction and if I were to change my behavior towards carbs and sugar, I would begin to get healthy of body and mind. I always knew that to lose weight it would be a change for life but how can one change if they are hungry and all they really think about is food and your hormones won’t let you change. It’s too bad, carbs and sugar are yummy but I have this addiction and they can’t have a place in my life. I have been low carb, I do eat above ground vegetables, for over a year. No cheating except for two meals at Passover I ate matzoh. (It was yum). If it is a day I find myself not satiated, I have a larger portion, and up my fat. No carbs. I live alone so it is easy to have no processed products in the house. Then the next day I’m fine and continue on. I think it’s possible to enjoy all the pleasures eating this way. Also, if it is harder moment dealing with the addiction, I listen to some TH-cam videos and that helps. Much like those who are addicted to alcohol go to meetings. Thank you for listening 🦋💕🌎🌻

      I had a (UK) dietician tell me that I shouldn't cook food in beef fat because it's a saturated fat and would clog the arteries but eating cheese is fine!
      I gave up on the NHS 'professionals' years ago

    My weight stalled for 6 months on LCHF. A week ago I started weighing my food (calorie counting) and found that my daily calorie count was 4000 kcals, way over my 2100 kcals required for an active lifestyle. 7 days ago I cut the calories to 2100 kcals and have since lost 4 lbs (and it's not water weight). So, for me, calorie counting is necessary because I can't determine when I've had the right amount of food. I am a carb addict, my daily carbs are < 20g now.

      I recommend dr Bikman videos if you have not watched them already. He talks about metabolism and how calories approach is only good at later stage. At first you should not count calories because lchf will fix your hormones inbalance especially insulin that will make you lose weight and is primary obstacle that makes weight loss difficult. Then after you stall for long you can take a look at calories. I feel that what happened to you and now was the time to consider calories. Good job good luck

      @@HonkGoldfisz , Yes, the first year on LCHF was wonderful, I reached my ideal weight and thought I was in maintenance mode. Then I made a Keto cheesecake and ate it all in 4 days, then 2 pumpkin pies... I then gained 10 lbs in 2 months and stalled. I think those Keto goodies caused me to increase food consumption. I feel like I'm re-learning how much food I need to consume to be satiated. I hate calorie counting, I should be done doing that in a month, my weight is dropping fast now. Thanks.

    Keto since October 2019, male 78 yeas old. Went from 96-100Kg to 75-79 Kg in the first few months and have stayed there mostly on OMAD. Noticed I lost some muscle as well as fat and that my belly reduced but did not entirely go. Any time I got to 75Kg I could see and feel the muscle loss. I've been lifting weights for the last six weeks, twice a week - upping the ante incrementally each time along with trying to switch my metabolism to mTOR by eating 5 small protein meals after lifting and then going back to OMAD. Once a week I fast 40 hours before lifting, the second time I eat the night before. I am slowly losing and I hope I'm putting that visceral fat in a vise. I'll keep lowering my weight so long as I'm getting stronger. Spot on about pain and fear. My worst addiction was nicotine and I gave up with difficulty in my late 30s after watching my father die of cancer at 62. Him, Luckies, me Camels 2 packs. I have several projects I want to advance as far as I can before I die, so my motivation is not exactly 'pain' per say, or even fear of death which counterintuitively seems to lessen the closer I get to it (which may indeed increase as clear signs of the death emerge), but from a conscious determination to do the best I can ,as long as I can. I fall short all the time, but have no difficulty walking past the bake shop. i'm getting far too much emotional satisfaction from the mental clarity and steady energy I enjoy when I am burning fat to muck about with Croissants. Finally, this video clarifies the difficulty I have supporting the people close to me who are trying to do various forms of keto. Thank you.

      I experienced muscle loss on a Keto diet.

      Seems like you have a "finger on your pulse" and have come to listen to your body and what works best for it. Bravo. Your comments of death also hit home and I felt the desire to pray for you and share that today is the day to also seek eternal health in knowing the One Who made you and sent His Son to make the way for you to know true and eternal life - whole health! Don 't want to be preachy but just reaching out that, if you want to know more, there are many who could share with you (just as you are sharing your physical health journey. Blessings.

    Don't know why it took so long, but I just found your channel a couple days ago. Wow! You make so much sense! I am 63 and lost about 50 pounds 5 years ago doing Keto and intermittent fasting. Without any support system i drifted and started having bad carbs. I finally woke up and in February started back to a Ketovore lifestyle. Generally i eat one or two meals a day. Work days are easiest because i can just work thru lunch time. Thank you for your content and encouragement!

    when you eat quality meat eggs (grassfed) or just keto : the truth is your hunger/hanger goes way down and stops screaming at you to eat more more more.. This is a big step into moving away from blind consumerism. When you realise you have that calmness in your body and easily skip snacking and meals, you make better choices in more aspects of your life, not just limited to your food choices. It is a HUGE wake-up to your own personal power!

    It’s the same thing with most of the people who have gastric surgery. They go back to eating the way they ate before and gain back most, sometimes all, and sometimes MORE, weight after the surgery. I know many people....MANY people who have had gastric surgery and only know of one that has still kept the weight off.

      Me too. My aunt was a fat slob. Then she got gastric bypass and was yet again a fat slob within a couple of years.

    I'm glad doctors like you are sharing valuable information with us " common folks". The majority of doctors out here, in the real world, don't give a s#$%t about their patients, are ignorant about diet or chose not to share, all they care is to get you in and out of their office in 10 min or less. I started a keto diet a little over 2 years ago. I'm small never been real heavy but needed to go down from the 140 pounds I was at. At 5 feet tall and at the time 69 in good health I still felt a need to improve. I've lost 20 pounds, eliminated sugar all together and eat carbs only in the form of veggies. No starches, no seed oils very simple diet with all kinds of meats eggs, salads, cooked veggies. Have I cheated of course and when I do I feel terrible. In the last 2 years I had birthday cake once that was a terrible idea, had ice cream 3 times and immediately regretted it and have eaten 6 muffins ( not at the same time ) . I can not eat sugar because it immediately makes me sick, but it wakes up the desire for more and it takes days to get over that feeling again. I feel that carbs are an addiction and it comes in through my senses, like that smell of baked goods starts going into your brain and making you feel like you have to have some. The best thing is to NOT have anything like that at home. Fasting has made ALL the difference. I have maintained my weight at about 117 to 120 for 2 years. I feel great and have tons of energy and sleep like a baby. Doesn't get much better than that. I also avoid doctors at all cost. Wish I was near one of these doctors that make these awesome videos.

    I am very happy to have found Dr. C. His approach and recognition of this as a carb addiction is so affirming. Also his willingness to call the medical industry out on things like statin "fraud" is so refreshing and reassuring. All that having been said, I cannot in the least agree that there is a single truth about which diet is best per se. Nor can I logically agree that carnivore is the best in any way, not medically and certainly not ethically, environmentally or even logically. We are living on a planet that's trying to feed upwards of 7 BILLION people. It takes something like 40 lbs of vegetation/grain and thousands of gallons of water to produce 1lb of beef across the lifetime of the animal. Only, maybe, 20% of the earth's population can eat carnivore and it is outrageous to say that must be done while leaving the rest of the earth's inhabitants to their own devices - but, hey, stay away from our meat bcuz that's the only diet we are engineered to be healthy on. That is SO illogical and SUCH aO "let them eat cake" attitude. The people who have the longest, healthiest lifespans on the planet like in the Greek isles, Okinawa/Japan rural people eat very, very little meat and they are the healthiest societies on the planet with significant % of their population living and retaining good health and vigor well past the age of 100! And we have an entire planet blanketed with edible nourishing vegetation -- u r saying that our planet was not created or did not evolve in a way to support human life? That makes absolutely no sense and is as much a product of human hubris and the lofty self-aggrandizing attitude of Western civilization's allopathic medical community.
    So Dr C has some awesome information to share and is doing great work I'm challenging the medical world's Powers That Be but his conclusion that there is only one truth for every human individual on the planet and that is to be 100% carnivore is as off-base as every other person's "one-way-only" approach to their truth about diet. U R NOT GOD AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKING UPON URSELF SUCH A DOGMATIC APPROACH TO GUIDE AND INFLUENCE OTHERS!

      Does that mean there's a possible conflict between long term feeling better and short term feeling good? There in lies a potential fail point for some women, the short term (potentially daily) discomfort of changing diet versus the not yet actualized health goal.

    Thank you Dr. Cywes, you are exactly right, it's carb and sugar addiction. I eat 1 meal a day since I'm almost 60 and I still have 50 to lose. I eat protein in that meal with little added fat for cooking and no carbs. But if I get any sugar it can trigger cravings. Like the sauce I got at a restaurant for dipping chicken. I'm aware of my triggers so drinking coffee during a meal with added coconut milk or almond milk are going bye bye. I'll subconsciously look for excuses for adding in something almost as a reward for going all day without it. Cold brewed coffee with pellegrino is my go to as I've gotten very used to bitter taste. An alternative to addictive behavior could be hugging my cat or dog or asking my husband for a hug since love is a greater need these days.

    Been doing OMAD and keto for about 3 years and I literally feel better now than I did while running 70-80 miles a week and competing in collegiate men's cross country

    .this is a wonderful and correct perspectve in my lay opinion. As a life time carb addict I know how to get the results but like an alcoholic you must remove the carbs from your life on a permenant basis or you are bound to go round and round up and down...... I have recently adopted a low carb maintenance lifestyle and plan to use occasional fasting to reach my target weights. So far 43 lbs in 3 months... not too bad for slow crippled 69 year old guy .....

    Dr. Jason Fung has talked about calories not being a factor in someone's way of eating.....basically it doesn't work counting calories. Glad I found another expert about that subject.

    I have been eating veg meat and fish along with fasting I have lost around 35 pounds in a year so it was not a quick fix but adherence was essential. I know would like to lose another 7 pounds but I accept it will now be very slow.
    I have discovered how to eat and drink in a way that works with my body and never will I return to a high carb diet as it drives my hunger all-day

      @@robertcywes2966 I have been low carb 4 years so far, with no cheat days, carb-cycling or falling off the wagon, not once. Many veteran carnivores, for example, have been so over a decade. I truly belive you cannot miss what you do not have. Since I stopped having carbs, I stopped wanting them. It is that simple really, because it is easier to say no thank you to the whole cake than to the second slice. And mind you, I binged eating followed by purging for 25 years. I feel low carb is healing both my body and my mind.

    This should apply to school all round the world teach children why they learn the content of a subject... Which in the end would help in later life. Because people would learn to ask the right questions.. Therefore get the right information and be more inclined to learn and except the knowledge especially at school level... 🤔👍🏼💪🏼😎

    Thank you. I am type 2 diabetic. I fought hard not to go on meds but eventually caved in. 19 months ago I had lost 2 stone over 2 years through dietary change and exercise. I dumped Metformin. However, I had major reactions to the 9 meds 14 tabs/capsules of those meds. The final straw was I was put on a beta blocker not to control BP but tremors. I was already on BP control meds. I had 3 falls in 2 days and suffered concussion. I also found I could not stop eating and suffered diarrhoea. So I dumped all medication. Unfortunately over the next few months all the weight I had lost was put back on. I discovered the beta blocker was also prescribed to help under weight patience put weight on. I am now back to square 1. Covid lockdown stopped me being able to access the foods that I had been eating. Mobility went down like a lead balloon. I am now having a battle with my GP because he wants me to go back on the meds. But my research suggests Metformin will simply put me back down into the pit.

    The reason for the fail was in your introduction: diet.
    Being a ketovore is my lifestyle now. There's no end in sight. No food-related rewards. Just off all my meds, healthy, and pain-free.

      Excellent! I'm Carnivore (40 days). I look at food as a nutritional need rather than something to do for pleasure. (My meat is pleasurable, though, just not my main goal.)

    The question is: how sustainable is keto diet? No carb cause increase of indolamines; noradrenaline dopamine , but also stress hormone CORTISOL. Ketogenic diet is stressful itself on body ( plus stress from life) . We know that raised CORTISOL and stress can cause by itself insuline resistance. This can cause vicious cycle " you cant win" wright ? For example for to me it was very hard to sleep on ketogenic diet
    Took me ages to adjust, and not without supplements.
