    I just did a 90 hour fast & ended on Easter. My son was SO mad at me, telling me what I was doing was unhealthy! He refused to listen when I told him it was actually quite the opposite.
    He lost 100# eating rice & chicken breast + distance running.
    So, we're already at opposite ends of the WOE & physical activity spectrum ( I started using weight machines at the gym in 2023).
    I just keep to myself that I Intermittent Fast 16-24 hours daily & eat OMAD.
    I'm down 70 pounds & have my T2D in remission, & I've gone off almost all my medications, including 3 BP meds. No longer needed!

    YES IT'S True...! When I switched to Low-Carb Time-Restricted eating - I STOPPED THINKING About "How Much I SHOULD Eat" and started listening to my body and eating SMALL PROTIONS slowly until I felt satisfied... And I WAS SHOCKED...!!! to discover How LITTLE FOOD my body actually needs. 😄😁 -70SomethingGuy

      I've had the same experience - and I wasn't a big eater before I moved into a TRE pattern of 18:6. I have not been carb addicted, so it honestly meant just removing my morning coffee with a T of cream, which was ritual only. When I sit down for our 1 main meal / day (plus a very light repast around 5:30p) at 2:00pm, I don't serve up much, instead just eat slowly and mindfully and only eat what I feel I need - which is very little! Hubby and I rarely eat out as we've everything we need at home (a great cook if I do say so myself lol) but when we do, we always order 1 entree size and share because portion sizes are ridiculous and no one wants to waste food!

    Nice one Doc! My old Dad, born in 1908, always remarked, “eating is just a habit…” I’ve been ketovore for 37 months and still loving it. I do a lot of OMAD, especially on my days off. Satiety signals working perfectly and quick! I’m 67 and weigh what I did when I was 21. Same good BP too. I’ll never go back…

    I have never been to Weight Watchers or heard other diet lectures, but I have a very strong feeling that this video can take the place of any of these diets. I absolutely love how Dr. Cywes and others de-mystifies all of the noise we have been hearing for decades. I was 365lbs, T2, and lost 45lbs over 3 months. I have stopped the Ozempic 3 weeks ago and feel I have stalled with my weight loss. This video is just what I needed to cut down on my portions and perhaps do longer IF. These videos are saving my life. My current GP is clueless, and I even went to a new highly rated endocrinologist that I had to stop from constantly talking about bariatric surgery and giving me the excuse to fail by partially blaming poor genetics for my obesity. Such BS, I friggin' overate whatever I wanted and blamed depression, anxiety, finances, etc. Now that I have been enlightened by Dr. Cywes and Dr. Berry, I have all the medical backing I need to succeed.

Never thought I could do 42 hours, but I did it once and aiming for 60 this time. We've been fed so much bad info! (No pun intended). I feel really good; coffee, sea salt in my water and 👊🏿! Thank you so much. I’ve been watching all the carnivore channels and can’t believe how much they eat per meal! I’ve been trying to eat more thinking I’m not eating enough. I eat two meals a day and have been carnivore for the past month. I usually eat 3-4 ounces of protein per meal and usually can’t finish the meal. Now I know my small saucer of food is enough for me. Thanks again!❤

    Thank you for giving me permission not to eat to the standards of others. I've always known that I don't require much in terms of food but others can cause me to be doubled-minded from time to time. At 42 I am exactly the same weight as I was at 18 and this is after having 7 kids. Growing up my mother made it clear that sugar is something to be avoided and if we went out to eat at a buffet she said it was fine to skip the next meal. These two ideas of skipping a meal if you aren't hungry and avoiding sugar helped me not to be become a carb addict. It was easy to take it to the next level and take on a more ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. This video made me feel validated in my approach to food consumption.

    Thank you Dr Cywes for this video. This is one of the most important videos I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve been afraid of not getting enough protein and have been over eating trying to meet that 1 gram of protein for each pound of lean body mass. Its funny, but this has lead to me actually starting to put weight on again, even though I have been completely carnivore for the past 3 months. Maybe I don’t need to worry so much about that now. Hell, I’ve done a 14 day water fast quite easily in the past. I’m going to really work on my mind set for this and with that work start to see some favorable results again on my search for optimal health.

    This is a brilliant video! Massive quantities of food, overindulgence, unnecessary eating just because “you can” is just another form of abusive eating. When you can’t temper a certain food, it is probably attached to emotional eating and you need to sharpen your awareness when eating it.
    When you live a tempered life in every area you are giving yourself wonderful gift.

    Good chat Doc. I've been carnivore for 3 months and the weight loss is not going as planned. I have a mental block about eating carnivore and extended fasting. • @richardshueydc1529
      @richardshueydc1529 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I am at the same place you are mentally! 3 months into carnivore, had success with fasting but then somehow created a mental block around thinking that I will “lose too much muscle mass” if I continue that way. And yet my best results have always come from fasting. I look on the bright side of this in that I am much more fat adapted than I was when I actually did my fasting in the past. It should be much easier to implement some regular 36 hour fasts into my week now! You and I, we got this!

      @eatmeatandliftweights5754 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I too had a mental block about carnivore, so I am transitioning gradually. First it was grains, sugar and seed oils, then high carb foods and vegetables, after that fruit, I am almost there, the great thing is the appetite, binge eating and cravings are gone but not the energy to work out! Part of my brain still tells me that I should be having vegetables but that’s just what we have been told all our lives!

    I've been keto/ketovore and now carnivore for 7 years. In the first year I lost too much weight and was about 15 pounds below what I feel is my perfect weight. I now only eat when I'm hungry and my body is great at telling me when I need to eat. I have been the same weight for six years and the only thing I still have a hard time getting enough of is salt and electrolytes.

  • @Lance54689
    @Lance54689 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is timely for me. For the last four years of low carb/whole foods/IF the focus is on what and how often, and I could have as much as I want. In the last several months I've realized that I was eating too much. The fear was that if I ate less I would be hungry all the time and then fall back on the old habit. I've slowly cut back on how much I eat and no, I don't get hungry, body fat goes down, and I feel better. I have noticed that if I put my first meal off until about 3pm, I can eat only one meal a day, eating a lot less and feel good.

  • @annagoral6462

    If you eat SAD diet, it makes you feel hungry and in this state, it is so difficult to even think of eating less. It has hardly succeeded. However, on a keto diet or on a carnivore, those hormones are changed and it is easy to eat less and less.

That is just too much...trying to work while feeling like a stuffed animal makes everything difficult. Rare is the day i eat 3 meals & that always depends on what they are & how hard the work is. Most days it's 2 meals..and occasionally..one is enough. i tend to listen to what my body says it needs.

    Had a throat surgery a few years back and needed to stay at hospital for nearly a week. Of course my food intake via a tube was determined by a dietitian, after all they are the specialists, they are supposed to know better than the surgeons; anyway this is how it goes in that hospital. I refused the high glucose mixture determined by the dietitian as it made my serum sugar level more than double in a few minutes from what I am used to on Keto; and this was planned on continuous feed. A note was put on the report about my ignorance and mis belief about science. I ended up being under hydrated for a whole weekend with severe headache until I had the visit by a doctor on the following Monday.
    Water is indeed necessary for well being.

Interesting fact is I got the UK guidelines on recommended intake and it says 260 grams of carbohydrate a day of which 90 grams is sugar. If I ate 260grams of carbohydrate a day I wouldn't be able to stop. I carry it around in my purse to remind me why I keep to below 30 grams total carbs a day.

    LOL! I haven't had an oyster (two-egg) omelet in a while! I think I'll have one tomorrow.
    I have stopped counting calories, fat and carbs. I basically just make sure I get 25g of animal protein in any meal to qualify as a bolus, and avoid sugars and starches. I'm learning to avoid eating too much protein at a time after having been high-protein for months. I'm still absorbing Episode 284 so I can get leaner after finally cracking hypertrophy-I'm taking bovine colostrum for my hip and rotator cuff. I decided I need to get more fat with the protein, and less food overall, because my BUN is high. I'm also considering starting my meals with some liquid fat and pacing better.
    As you would predict, I often feel best during and shortly after an extended fast.

    I needed this info! I was always worried that I was under eating protein. It was impossible for me to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight. I too was making a four egg omelette or four scrambled eggs per day. Thank your for this timely video. I’ve been carnivore for three months now, and feel great!

      I’m beginning to realize that other people may need more food than I, even though they are my height and weigh 40 lb less than I do. They must have great metabolisms. I work out 3 days a week, so I’m active for my age. But I’m coming to see that I should ideally stop a little sooner than I have been. I’m a 73-yo woman and just can’t eat 1 lb of meat per day. I find myself forcing down all of a beef patty simply because I know I won’t eat the leftovers-I hate leftovers! So I tend to overeat meat even if only by a couple of ounces, because I don’t like to waste food.
      I haven’t found a solution to this, although I am considering eating only two eggs not three when I fix eggs. Perhaps I should follow your advice and only fix one!
      Steaks are easier, because one of my cats helps me eat them, and I WILL eat leftover steak!
      I’ll figure it out.
      Thanks for your commentary on this! I was worried: what was wrong with me when carnivore influencers (girlish type) were downing 1-1/2 lb of steak and 6 eggs or more, and weighing 110! Time to listen to my own body a little more!
      Thanks doc for talking about this subject!❤

    I truly appreciate this point of view. I have been watching these advocates and their massive plates of protein and fat and I just haven't been able to understand it. That's because subconsciously I already knew what you were saying. I knew it was way more food than my body needs. I have weight to lose. I've been carnivore over two months now. My inflammation is lower because I have skin conditions that are gone and aches in my hips and knees that are gone as well. But the food thing has just been bothering me because I don't believe I need as much food as they say. Now I know to trust my instincts and also listen to you!

      Please don't think that if you were overweight, you have all of that fat to carry you through more so than a thin person. In other words, if you have a thin person, and a fat person, starving, they both will die within a day of each other, even though the fat person has a lot of body mass still at his death. The lack of food will start shutting the organs down even though you still have a lot to lose, so do it carefully so you still have nutrients in your body that you need.

    I eat till full so been on Keto for nearly 2 years now and at first got hung up with what to eat and keeping the carbs below 20 but lost so much weight that I am now evened out and maintaining 112 pounds. Was this weight for a very long time in my younger years and had two babies back in the 1980's and did put on some weight after this but kept it under control by exercising etc. Then just happened to see something on TH-cam about 2 yrs ago about Keto so my husband and I decided to give it a go. We wanted to feel and have good health as we are both 70. Its helped my husband's Rosacea and his reflux and me being a border line diabetic and pressure in my eyes which was causing a cataract that the drops was keeping it under control but being on Keto it would stop the cataract from getting worse after two years. Just keep on eating the way we are and enjoying retirement etc. Must admit I do not have a Dr that I can say I would be happy with who understands just how Keto works that lives and practice here locally. That's the only draw back but I keep following these videos and watch other keto Drs who talk about Keto and get my information from them.

    I love the way you think, I was a practicing nutritionist in my twenties and always have been an avid reader about diet. Instinctively I always knew I needed complete protein when I would eat because I didn't feel well otherwise. That I have down pretty well, unfortunately I was diagnosed with Addison's disease about 21 years ago and have been on cortisol ever since and developed osteo arthritis and osteoporosis. I'm as active as I can be because I have a hypermobile SI joint previously and following three back fusions it became worse. Interesting ly my doctor during my last physical had chosen to be on the carnivore diet. He had a horrible health scare last year and he feels incredible and just was sharing that with everyone. He had 100 different fruit trees in his backyard, that gives you an idea of the changes he had to make. I continue to have a few 50 carbs a day otherwise I don't feel well but more importantly metabolically unconcerned about the cortisol I'm taking any effects it has on my hormones and bones. Have you made any videos regarding this issue? I've been listening to Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Jordan Peterson and others. Had my blood work done my A1C was five and my glucose is always around 70 or 80 , usually on the nose I have actually low white blood count always low, cholesterol about 180 ratio is a little over 2. If I take no cortisol in the morning in the hospital after the test they do to stimulate the adrenals my cortisol reading is about 4. Do you have any opinion regarding the cortisol I continue to take 25 to 30 mg a day or if you think a consultation would benefit me please contact me through this thank you so much. Also I've refused any bone density medications that the endrocrinologist I see recommends.

    I've always told the members in my Keto group, if you are not hungry don't eat, as long as when you do eat you are eating real whole food, and you are not underweight. If they are living on pop tarts and protein bars, then they are likely missing nutrients that real foods, like meat, fish and eggs have, and then they should eat, but only real whole foods. I'm at times maybe 5 lbs over my ideal weight, and then I'll have just a tin of sardines that day, and others are horrified that I'm not eating enough. My body stores fat for a reason, and it I don't eat enough it knows to help itself to my stored fat.

    My biggest take-away from this talk is: Put the small portion on your plate first and then eat it and do something else for a while. If still hungry (after 20 minutes or so???) then go back to the kitchen and eat more of what you have cooked. But not much more. In another video Dr. Cywes said put the cooked food on the dinner table in a serving dish, serve yourself a portion, eat it, and then ask yourself if you need more. This seems as much psychological as physical. My best luck is that I always seem to be the last person to finish a meal. I don't try to be this way but I think it helps because I have only 10 pounds of overweight and have never been more overweight than this.
