    I like your advice! I followed a similar template recently and being organized and providing examples of salaries from local competitors is key to getting hr on the right path. I do believe corporate America vs the public sector is vastly different when it comes to culture and the factors affecting budgets, so each situation will be unique that way. The biggest takeaway I have here is how you show your company/supervisor that you provide value that goes above and beyond your original job description and how you have enhanced the position such that it has helped and will continue to help the company grow in the preferred direction for sustained success.

    These are great advise for decent business owners who value hard working folks and want to share the rewards. Most bosses and owners run with fear or anxiety so you always feel like you are barely making it or praisrd just enough so you don't leave.

    I had performance review about a month ago. I didn't know that there is a certain period of time when a raise can be asked. I thought that it is discussed once a year, closer to full year of work.

    I saw you comment on Bukola’s video so I came over and have been watching your videos. Great content! I will actually give this a try and get a meeting on my Manager’s calendar. Right now they are asking us to do a self review with how we think we performed over the past year, so I am going to be very thorough in creating bullet points that quantify my success and can be used as support when I ask for a raise.

    Hi. I need prompt advise. I had my performance review last week and got very positive feedback. At the end of the meeting I was offered 53K (said by HR). I took a moment of silence and boss (CEO) asked what I thought. I said 55K and he said okay. Now I’m wishing I asked for more.
    My position is currently hiring and the starting is from 50K. They recently changed it. When I started last year the starting was posted from 45K. They offered me 45K and I negotiated to 48K.
    So, is my calculation correct? With their 5K increase in budget my raise is only 2K (considering inflation, that’s nothing).
    Is there any action I can take now?

    My job doesn't do performance reviews... and trying to talk to my manager is extremely difficult due to how busy we get (I work at a dealership in their detail department). We had a manager but he was promoted to corporate and our new managers are the sales managers, but I pretty much run the detail department apparently.

      Blue collar work isn't worth the hassle of renegotiating. Its better to get raise from the market. Not saying white collar is better than blue. Honestly its worth it for white collar either

    Im in physical therapy, been 5yrs at this job ( skilled nursing facility) entire company did a %10 cut during covid then got bought out. Asked for raise about year ago and got denied. Just asked for a meeting to try again. Seeing what happens. I'm at $25 market for my experience is about $34....

I've spwnt a LARGE portion of my last 3 years going to PT at least weekly and y'all definitely deserve fair compensation. I know a stranger on the internet doesn't mean much but I appreciate the work you both do 💖

      The same thing happened to me as a PTA they did nationwide pay cuts prior to Covid and the last I remember was 3% …. Nope. Switched to tech and now I make 6 figures.

    Can anyone give me advice, I'm working as VA in a like virtual BPO where they sell service to other business like, CSR, bookkeeping etc., I work as accountant and I have access to the client books so I discovered that the company I directly work, bills the client very high and I was only paid 20% out of it, is it right for me to ask for a raise even though I'm just about to turn 3 months with them. The client gives positive feedback for my performance and that he even told me that if there are any changes with the company I work, they will retain me with them.

    What is the best tool to show case our work performance in the form of data to manager?

      Hi there! Depending on the type of data & how much of it you have, you could aggregate it in Excel & create either something pivot tables or charts to show the positive impact you made. Depending on your company culture / your relationship with your manager, you could creative a deck to show them. Also, if it’s an option in your performance management system, you could create something showing your impact & attach it for them to look at during your review. Hope this helps!

    First, check and learn what raises look like in your company. The last thing you want is to fight and advocate so much for yourself only to receive peanuts. I'd rather not fight at all if peanuts are at stake. By peanuts, I mean anything that doesn't translate to meaningful increase to your monthly net salary.

    How do you complete your salary research? What sites do you compare to get the competitive salary rate?

      Because anything you find online if self-reported, which means it can’t be 100% accurate, I would recommend finding salary information for the role on as many sites as humanly possible & averaging them. Also, if they have a job description attached to the pay, read it & weed it out if it doesn’t apply. Hope this helps!

    When I asked my manager for a meeting on completion of a year and she said we anyway have a performance review we can discuss then... How to handle such situations ?

      I realize this comment is older but I’m an HR manager and my advice is to push back and mention that you’d like to have a conversation prior to the review cycle in order to level expectations on both ends. Especially if you haven’t had a career leveling discussion with your manager yet.

      I don’t think so. You can reach out to your manager, you got nothing to lose if they don’t give you a raise. At least you will learn about your company’s process.

      Im guessing the person was let go or got a pay cut. More likely the former.

    If I tried this with any boss I’ve ever had, they would stop me 20 seconds into it and tell me to stop wasting their time and get back to work. If I asked for a meeting to discuss our upcoming meeting it would guarantee I didn’t get a pay raise. I can’t imagine anyone actually being able to do what you’re suggesting. This seems completely divorced from reality.

      This sounds like I’m being a jerk and I’m sorry about that. I am not trying to be offensive. The conversations in this video are just so far from anything I’ve ever seen or experienced. I’ve never worked in a huge corporate machine with thousands of employees before, so it may be the different cultures of smaller companies and the corporate world.

      Hi there - I hear you. Every company & honestly every industry is so different. What’s ‘acceptable’ in some orgs, others will balk at. It’s also really manager & leadership & HR department & compensation philosophy dependent. I’ve worked at companies that are open to talking about pay transparency & are open to hearing people out when they’re advocating for themselves, and I’ve worked at orgs that aren’t interested in internal equity & making sure their folks are paid appropriately. The second type of company is the most frustrating to me as a comp person, and I’ve found myself leaving those orgs ASAP. I also want to acknowledge that it’s harder to advocate for yourself once you’re at a company, especially if they aren’t open to having pay conversations. In those cases, it can sometimes be easier to move to another org & use the information about comp you have gathered to push for a higher salary elsewhere. Let me know if you have any other questions. Again, I hear you. I see you. I know that this won’t work for everyone. It’s incredibly dependent on a lot of factors that are unknown to everyone besides the manager & HR folks working at that specific company.

      I work in healthcare IT and I have this conversation with my boss during performance evaluation, totally reasonable and acceptable. I'm sorry that your reality seems so cruel and disheartening.

      It depends. Your company sounds like a big pain and it probably is. Some companies have different cultures and thus can work. For example I can see the prep for meetings working for me but then easily denying the actual raise for a stupid reason. It all depends
