Timeline will start just after Swain becomes ruler of Noxus, or just before. Then we will be able to go back in time to the events that happened previously with Zilean, so he can tell us what happened, and we can fight in the battle of the howling abyss when Avarosa sends the watchers howling over the abyss, (hence why it got its name). Then Lisandra freezes the other watchers before they can come through and take their revenge by destroying everything.
Most likely not, they obviously pivoted away, and then confirmed it in the latest dev update. Which make me sad, i loved and looked forward to them too.
I am one of the few people that probably read all the short stories, it was a truly loveable experience to me, but i can also understand is really distant from what the average lol player likes to do sadly

We have a single universe confirmed now. We know Yordles are composed of magic (Vex's color story) and we know Demacia is heavily anti-magic, including Petricite. So, what's going on with Poppy? Shouldn't she be having her magic drained from her living in Demacia?
The thing is petrecide doesn't nullify magic it absrobs and can discharge it that is sylas passive in-game and why galio barely moves so who knows maybe poppy unconsciously charges and discharges her petricide hammer the armour doesn't seem to be made of petricide
If you think of magic as a gas you can probably imagine Yordles as a closed container. On the other hand a Galio is a vaccum that would devour ambient magic. Another example would be something completely made of magic which i guess Zeds living shadows fit? Those would be completely devoured by any petricite objects.
What if, in the MMO, the player characters are in some way linked to the time mages of Icathia(which should exist in cannon now with the runeterra school)? Even if just for events, this could lead to players seeing the invasion of the void, the rune wars, the invasion of ionia, the ruination, future events that didn´t even happen yet! It could even let players be part of these events! Imagine being the one that stops Mordekaiser, or helping found Demacia?
think of this will the mmo evolve? will it stay in one time or when a new story comes out will the mmo have to do that too? may sound good at first but think of doing something like WoW's cataclysm then when thats story is over taking everything they made away and back to where the world is. THAT sounds like alot of work. maybe to much.
that sounds incredibly fun, I would love it if they did that as a story milestone, for example when your character finally reaches Zilean and his timeschool (I think it should still be a colossal achievement, like a final level thing or a final piece of a huge questline), they are either allowed to go back to some of those moments in history to see how they would handle that situation, or they are asked to go back and change something, so the fall of Icathia can be stopped somehow
After 4 days, the original content creators need like 3 days for their video to do good on yt without there being a substitute of original, thus asmon and actman talked abt it and thats why asmon now sometimes reacts after a few days of a vid being released

I don't know if it would make sense, but an update on Zilean with him liberating people on his tower and being a NPC that you can talk could lead to some raid bosses. I don't if it would be a good idea, but you could talk to him to enter a chamber where he "force travels" you through time to fight raid bosses, like fighting Viego with the Sentinels, or being part in the Ionian invasion made by Noxus, heck, you could find Ivern before he was the green guy.

When Riot brings out things like Arcane for example and you can be like "Hey, I know what this references!" and your friends know too, that just makes you feel like being part of something. Honestly I was never worried about the MMO's story or what would be included(I have faith in Riots story telling) I only have one worry and its that the locations and creatures wont look as good in a real game as they do on LORs gorgeous card art.

I'd like to see Mount Targon be a week to a month long journey to the top. You could see Chip on the way there, the place were Pantheon and Leona fought in the Call cinematic or the place were are Stellacorns.
Huh how will this work? The biggest MMO worlds we have aren't even a day from top left to bottom right so making something like that sounds really weird. Mount Targon will likely be a important Region so making it a novel travel simulation for enthusiasts sounds like wasted potential.
i got to attend the in person Enter the Undercity event vent that happened in LA during Arcane’s release, and they had a recreation of the last drop and parts of Zaun. it was amazing, and there are videos and pics of the set. i wonder if it will overlap with the version possibly in the mmo

This game will be my 3rd time of me being there day 1. The last 2 were D1 & D2 years ago. I cannot wait to experience the world of Runeterra & explore it extensively when it launches. Arcane was my 1st intro into this universe & I can't wait for both the MMO & Arcane S2. I have faith that it'll be even better storywise after this massive change, but it'll also need good gameplay, combat, content & social interactions. Those are the core components of MMORPGS
My biggest hope is that all of the Darkin are secret quests hidden in places you’d never expect to go to as some final area for each region all culminating in the battle between Aatrox and Xolaani where you have to kill them both as they’re fighting each other.
I would love to see a potential DLC video... A few of my guesses are: - Void VS Darkin - Awakening of the Watchers - Asol breaking free/other Aspect we don't know about yet (centerpoint Mt. Targon) - Azir VS Xerath for the rule of Shurima - Battle for the Freljord (either the clans, or the gods going at it)

I got in through Arcane, ascended through the sun disc of Riot MMO speculation, and now have been driven mad by the void (of countless hours of Lore videos). This has been a fun ride
There's a lot of comments wondering about when the MMO will be set, and how will they cover the broad stories of when things happen. That's something we can only speculate on, but Riot doesn't have to show every single champion from the game, nor do they have to show every core narrative that happens in the universe. We're not going to be able to get every single event in the MMO. We might be able to re-live certain things through memories or even through time travel. After all there is Zilean, someone who is stuck in time searching for a way to save his home Icathia, we could easily have a DLC in the future where meet him and travel back to old Shurima (or even other places). One thing I'm personally hoping for, is a raid boss fight with Urgot. I could see a really cool FF14-esque looking sequence where you fight him and if your health drops below a certain point he ults you and you die.

I implore and highly recommend you guys to try Legends of Runeterra, gameplay wise you get a lot of free cards and decks and you'll be able to craft a meta deck every 2 weeks. You get to hear all the interactions the people in that world have with each other and get to know the universe very fast.
i played WoW and League for +10 years EACH ONE...and i can say that if riot dosen't fuck up the MMO, it can be one of the greatest games we ever seen (still, i am sure it won't surpass BG3, this mf set the expectatives very high)
BG3 and MMOs are totally different beasts. It doesn't make sense to compare them. I do think Riot has the potential to make an MMO that compares with the 14 and maybe even WoW in terms of popularity and profit, and yet I'm a bit hesitant. If they mess it up, it could gravely hurt the company.

the one thing im so hyped for is the classes. are they gonna let us be xayah mark 2? or katarina that uses shadow magic like zed? or maybe they just give us unique paths. Maybe even let us go a blade master class, who can train under master yi, yasuo, garen, or trynd to symbolize the different specs so much potential for this game i just hope they can figure it out
I think that's actually quite interesting, my only concern is with things like: how they will represent Zaun and Piltover, since the versions we have in both league and LoR are quite different from what we have in Arcane? I want Arcane to be canon but I don't want the Arcane's version of Zaun for example.

That's a big inconsistency with the mithology of the cities and I'm curious to know how they'll fix this, because one of the coolest things about Piltover and Zaun is that Zaun exists below Piltover, but in arcane Zaun is just a district across a bridge.
Maybe this isn't the answer you're looking for, but Zaun can be a pretty big place - perhaps the MMO will include both versions, just in different spots on the map. We haven't seen ALL of Zaun in Arcane, I think at least
12:24 Viego is literally imprisoned on an island somewhere far from where the MMO will take place, he most likely wont even be seen in the mmo wut same for the dog and other beasts and other stuff, they dont need show every beast in the mmo for it to still stay true to the canon, they can just make more and more new beasts and villains themselves and I think they will mostly focus on new stuff and put runeterra stuff as "it is there somewhere, you just wont find them anywhere in the mmo"
5:08 I actually called that when Arcane was so wildly popular. I figured the canon story would change and Arcane would probably take over the original at some point. Can't say this surprises me, but I am all in on them consolidating things and linking it all.
Honestly, since Riot Games decided to throw the lore they build already to the bin, I don't have any trust left in the mmo. If they can just on whim decide to shove some of the most interesting plothooks out the window, noone will stop them from retconning any second thing they make in the next few years even after they release that game. I've been excited about how they will continue implementing their established themes in these other mediums. I work on games myself and have been closely following Riot because a lot of moves they are announcing are moves I've been planning to make. One of the pitfalls I wanted to avoid was actually inconsistencies in my different games and stories using an IP I've been developing my entire life, and I unironically only recently put all the pieces of lore and mechanics into one massive "bible" to make sure I keep everything consistent. Seeing Riot build an entire team around that concept comforts my sense of direction. Riot is...pretty freaking incredible, coming from somebody still trying to make a name for myself doing the stuff they've perfected with their time and resources. I anticipate the MMO more and more. Edit: MORE PEOPLE NEED TO PLAY LEGENDS OF RUNETERRA it is such an incredible game seriously
Im not sure if it is still a thing, but a while ago, maybe a year or so. riot was looking to hire people for tv and film. apparently their team-up with marvel (not just for the comics) was to turn runeterra into a universe for tv and movies. (if this is true i think that would be really cool) but outside of the mmo - i could see this being another reason they need to get everything together on the same page..
If they do Legendary Weapons, outside of weapon drops, the team could have Doran craft their initial stage(s). That is, if the MMO goes WoW or FFXIV vs PVP mode, in which case, i wonder if there are similarly legendary blacksmiths across all regions

I only really read the short stories if I was looking for one small detail, or after I watched a Necrit video covering the story. 100% preferred listening to Necrit read the stories and talk about them instead of reading them myself, it was just actually more immersive to watch a Necrit video.

Omg I just realized There is so much ground work laid already for the mmo. We could be scouted by teemo and he’ll lead us to bandle city and then yordle portals can be the fast travel in the game. Maybe it can be the classic you can only fast travel to somewhere you have been before because the portal tree needs you to be able to envision clearly the desired location in runeterra to drop you by a nearby portal. We can even get introduced to the pet system by teemo in bandle city and maybe we will get a cute fae pet. Bandle city seems like a great starting place for beginners with all the cute environment and possible mechanic introductions.
Is there any possibility that we may see Xolaani in this next cinematic? We have Aatrox and Kalyle confirmed and her statue appeared in the last cinematic as well, and she is supposed to be the next league final boss after Viego's
They better make a gameplay feature allowing us to queue up for a game of league using our characters but what we pick decides whose abilities we get. So like specifically if we pick Solari we get Leona's abilities or we could just get to be called Summoner's again and what we actually use are like projections created by runes or some kind of magic, maybe even an cosmic/astral projection of the npcs we encounter and that's how we unlock the champs. In a way it would kill the original league but at the same time it could just be a way to enhance it even if it gets fully absorbed into the mmo.
I wouldn't classify previous league lore as similar to the MCU as the MCU only refers to the live-action movies as their own connected singular universe. I would say Riot's new lore going forward is more like the MCU
I think their largest most popular League of Legends stories will be cannon. It makes more sense that the stories more people have been exposed to are the ones that are true. Less confusing for the majority.
So, Blizzard made an RTS series, then made an MMO out of that RTS's world and such. And then people made a custom map in said RTS series that played like an entirely different kind of game. And then Riot made a game based on this mod. And now it's making an MMO based on that game's world and such.
Hey Necrit, I wrote some chapters of my master thesis on this whole topic (narratives in games, and transmedia storytelling). What Riot is doing is in my opinion very much in line with their broader strategy of spreading out stories and story fragments across a multitude of media. It is not unique to LoL, but LoL is probably the most prominent transmedia storytelling example of the recent years. It is a fascinating topic and an extremely ambitious strategy to tell stories. You summarise very well the potentials and problems of this strategy, great videos! We don't know if demacia has anything against creatures like Poppy or if petricide does also work against Yordles.

It's so awesome to have been with a big IP like League from the very beginning. When Riot brings out things like Arcane for example and you can be like "Hey, I know what this references!" and your friends know too, that just makes you feel like being part of something. Honestly I was never worried about the MMO's story or what would be included(I have faith in Riots story telling) I only have one worry and its that the locations and creatures wont look as good in a real game as they do on LORs gorgeous card art.

I'd like to see Mount Targon be a week to a month long journey to the top. You could see Chip on the way there, the place were Pantheon and Leona fought in the Call cinematic or the place were are Stellacorns.

Huh how will this work? The biggest MMO worlds we have aren't even a day from top left to bottom right so making something like that sounds really weird. Mount Targon will likely be a important Region so making it a novel travel simulation for enthusiasts sounds like wasted potential.

i got to attend the in person Enter the Undercity event vent that happened in LA during Arcane’s release, and they had a recreation of the last drop and parts of Zaun. it was amazing, and there are videos and pics of the set. i wonder if it will overlap with the version possibly in the mmo

This game will be my 3rd time of me being there day 1. The last 2 were D1 & D2 years ago. I cannot wait to experience the world of Runeterra & explore it extensively when it launches. Arcane was my 1st intro into this universe & I can't wait for both the MMO & Arcane S2. I have faith that it'll be even better storywise after this massive change, but it'll also need good gameplay, combat, content & social interactions. Those are the core components of MMORPGS
My biggest hope is that all of the Darkin are secret quests hidden in places you’d never expect to go to as some final area for each region all culminating in the battle between Aatrox and Xolaani where you have to kill them both as they’re fighting each other.
If xoolaani/aatrox raid became a thing remember it is all kayns's fault
I would love to see a potential DLC video...
A few of my guesses are:
- Void VS Darkin
- Awakening of the Watchers
- Asol breaking free/other Aspect we don't know about yet (centerpoint Mt. Targon)
- Azir VS Xerath for the rule of Shurima
- Battle for the Freljord (either the clans, or the gods going at it)

I got in through Arcane, ascended through the sun disc of Riot MMO speculation, and now have been driven mad by the void (of countless hours of Lore videos). This has been a fun ride
There's a lot of comments wondering about when the MMO will be set, and how will they cover the broad stories of when things happen. That's something we can only speculate on, but Riot doesn't have to show every single champion from the game, nor do they have to show every core narrative that happens in the universe. We're not going to be able to get every single event in the MMO. We might be able to re-live certain things through memories or even through time travel. After all there is Zilean, someone who is stuck in time searching for a way to save his home Icathia, we could easily have a DLC in the future where meet him and travel back to old Shurima (or even other places).
One thing I'm personally hoping for, is a raid boss fight with Urgot. I could see a really cool FF14-esque looking sequence where you fight him and if your health drops below a certain point he ults you and you die.
You got no idea how much I miss the short stories. I've been rereading my realms of runeterra short stories a lot recently. The Demacian one has to be the my favorite so far

I implore and highly recommend you guys to try Legends of Runeterra, gameplay wise you get a lot of free cards and decks and you'll be able to craft a meta deck every 2 weeks. You get to hear all the interactions the people in that world have with each other and get to know the universe very fast.

i played WoW and League for +10 years EACH ONE...and i can say that if riot dosen't fuck up the MMO, it can be one of the greatest games we ever seen (still, i am sure it won't surpass BG3, this mf set the expectatives very high)
BG3 and MMOs are totally different beasts. It doesn't make sense to compare them. I do think Riot has the potential to make an MMO that compares with the 14 and maybe even WoW in terms of popularity and profit, and yet I'm a bit hesitant. If they mess it up, it could gravely hurt the company.

I think that's actually quite interesting, my only concern is with things like: how they will represent Zaun and Piltover, since the versions we have in both league and LoR are quite different from what we have in Arcane? I want Arcane to be canon but I don't want the Arcane's version of Zaun for example.
Simple: Piltover and Zaun in LoR take place more in the future where the technology and architecture is more developed.
@@itsgonnabeokay9341 But that would still not make sense since the event that turned Zaun into an undercity happened ages in the past, and I'm pretty sure Jinx is not 100 years old. That's a big inconsistency with the mithology of the cities and I'm curious to know how they'll fix this, because one of the coolest things about Piltover and Zaun is that Zaun exists below Piltover, but in arcane Zaun is just a district across a bridge.
Maybe this isn't the answer you're looking for, but Zaun can be a pretty big place - perhaps the MMO will include both versions, just in different spots on the map. We haven't seen ALL of Zaun in Arcane, I think at least

same for the dog and other beasts and other stuff, they dont need show every beast in the mmo for it to still stay true to the canon, they can just make more and more new beasts and villains themselves and I think they will mostly focus on new stuff and put runeterra stuff as "it is there somewhere, you just wont find them anywhere in the mmo"

Honestly, since Riot Games decided to throw the lore they build already to the bin, I don't have any trust left in the mmo.
If they can just on whim decide to shove some of the most interesting plothooks out the window, noone will stop them from retconning any second thing they make in the next few years even after they release that game. No thank you.

Your coverage of this has been incredible and appreciated. I have absolutely fallen in love with Riot's universe thanks to Legends of Runeterra and Arcane. I've been excited about how they will continue implementing their established themes in these other mediums.
I work on games myself and have been closely following Riot because a lot of moves they are announcing are moves I've been planning to make. One of the pitfalls I wanted to avoid was actually inconsistencies in my different games and stories using an IP I've been developing my entire life, and I unironically only recently put all the pieces of lore and mechanics into one massive "bible" to make sure I keep everything consistent.
Seeing Riot build an entire team around that concept comforts my sense of direction.
Riot is...pretty freaking incredible, coming from somebody still trying to make a name for myself doing the stuff they've perfected with their time and resources.
I anticipate the MMO more and more.
Edit: MORE PEOPLE NEED TO PLAY LEGENDS OF RUNETERRA it is such an incredible game seriously

Im not sure if it is still a thing, but a while ago, maybe a year or so. riot was looking to hire people for tv and film. apparently their team-up with marvel (not just for the comics) was to turn runeterra into a universe for tv and movies. (if this is true i think that would be really cool) but outside of the mmo - i could see this being another reason they need to get everything together on the same page..

If they do Legendary Weapons, outside of weapon drops, the team could have Doran craft their initial stage(s). That is, if the MMO goes WoW or FFXIV vs PVP mode, in which case, i wonder if there are similarly legendary blacksmiths across all regions

I only really read the short stories if I was looking for one small detail, or after I watched a Necrit video covering the story. 100% preferred listening to Necrit read the stories and talk about them instead of reading them myself, it was just actually more immersive to watch a Necrit video.

Omg I just realized There is so much ground work laid already for the mmo. We could be scouted by teemo and he’ll lead us to bandle city and then yordle portals can be the fast travel in the game. Maybe it can be the classic you can only fast travel to somewhere you have been before because the portal tree needs you to be able to envision clearly the desired location in runeterra to drop you by a nearby portal. We can even get introduced to the pet system by teemo in bandle city and maybe we will get a cute fae pet. Bandle city seems like a great starting place for beginners with all the cute environment and possible mechanic introductions.
Is there any possibility that we may see Xolaani in this next cinematic? We have Aatrox and Kalyle confirmed and her statue appeared in the last cinematic as well, and she is supposed to be the next league final boss after Viego's
They better make a gameplay feature allowing us to queue up for a game of league using our characters but what we pick decides whose abilities we get. So like specifically if we pick Solari we get Leona's abilities or we could just get to be called Summoner's again and what we actually use are like projections created by runes or some kind of magic, maybe even an cosmic/astral projection of the npcs we encounter and that's how we unlock the champs.
In a way it would kill the original league but at the same time it could just be a way to enhance it even if it gets fully absorbed into the mmo.
I wouldn't classify previous league lore as similar to the MCU as the MCU only refers to the live-action movies as their own connected singular universe.
I would say Riot's new lore going forward is more like the MCU

I think their largest most popular League of Legends stories will be cannon. It makes more sense that the stories more people have been exposed to are the ones that are true. Less confusing for the majority.
So, Blizzard made an RTS series, then made an MMO out of that RTS's world and such. And then people made a custom map in said RTS series that played like an entirely different kind of game. And then Riot made a game based on this mod. And now it's making an MMO based on that game's world and such.

Hey Necrit, I wrote some chapters of my master thesis on this whole topic (narratives in games, and transmedia storytelling). What Riot is doing is in my opinion very much in line with their broader strategy of spreading out stories and story fragments across a multitude of media. It is not unique to LoL, but LoL is probably the most prominent transmedia storytelling example of the recent years. It is a fascinating topic and an extremely ambitious strategy to tell stories. You summarise very well the potentials and problems of this strategy, great videos!
