Pure Havanne is made to project. Never smell it directly from your wrist. The silage is what makes this fragrance so special. A cherry like tobacco. Pure Havane is at least a 9,5 out of 10.
I guess people have wrong expectations due to the hype. it's not a bad scent, it smells beautiful in the air for the people around you. I also expected something like Spice Bomb extreme or Tobacco Vanille but its not like that at all. not that spicy, and thick. it's just sweet like honey and tobacco-ish. not dry and powdery, it's wet. I love it.

Thank you for another sterling review, Aaron. I wish I lived in your neck of the woods so I could easily give you samples, particularly Naxos from Xerjoff. It's considered to be the niche version of Havane and it definitely packs a beautiful punch. Hopefully someone over yonder provides a sample soon as I think it'd be interesting. I also hope a sample of Versace Man makes its way to you as well. It's a discontinued tobacco scent that's very strong, fairly loud, but to me is somewhat refreshing! lol I appreciate your content as it helps maintain a pleasing routine from day to day which keeps me sane while we're all stuck.
Also, your voice gives me asmr tingles...it's so relaxing. Thank you for that as well!

Great review! So what would you recommend in place of Pure Havane?
I bought it as a blind buy, but I like it quite alot I could see layering it with something but I havent figured that out entirely, I've worn it with sandalwood essential oil and it was pretty good, I'm gonna try it with amber essential oil next.
I could watch these all day. Brilliant. Plus my ozone came today and it is phenomenal. I think it's more than a bright commercial fragrance. There is alot more going on in it and it reminds me of so many holiday memories. Look forward to the next one . Many thanks 👍🦄👍🦄👍🦄
I would never just release a 'commercial' fragrance. It always has my DNA in it. So I always try to do something different. Even if its commercial. For these 4 I want long lasting, powerful and evoking memories.

Naxos by Xerjoff is the Niche version of this; I just received mine today from Italy (along with a very hefty import tax 😒) but WOW! Well worth it... What Havane is lacking you will find in Naxos for sure!

100% agree. I bought Pure Havane expecting it to be bold. So it was a bit let down for me when I first tried it. But on the other hand it's a very nice safe date fragrance.
To my surprise Pure Malt is slightly bolder, more interresting, more night time appropriate, manlier.
I feel sorry for your date.
I don't understand what is going on with the house of Mugler, they discontinued all the best from the house and only the OG Amen is left... would it be due to the cost of making fragrances...? or can't get the materials?

Pure Havane is a great scent. The performance is amazing. It last and projects for hours on my skin. The tobacco note is light compared to other niche houses.

Mi pure havane is from 2019 but on the botle there is no bach nummer only on the box.and the botle you can take the top of seams like a refeal botle!! Is that normal in Newest baches?

Great review. I bought this and at the time it was either this or Pure Malt. I opted for this and as pleasant as it is, I don't reach for it very often. Quite underwhelming. Refreshing to hear a professional's take on it
Underwelming is a perfect word for this. They should of pushed more darkness into the base.

I have a quick question for you as a perfumer! =) When I first bought and used Pure havane, I didn't notice this smell but after about a year or 2, I started noticing some skanky smell in the opening when I apply it to my skin. Is it because of Patchouli(google says it can smell like wet soil/dirt, decomposing leaves)? or is it my perfume went bad over time? My room is relatively hot at around 26~7c degrees. the skanky smell goes away after the opening phase, but i can slightly detect(very very slightly) it in the base as well.
Do you leave it in the sun? It’s better in a cold, dark place.
I sampled this as I am a fan of pure tonka but the performance is terrible on my skin, it was fading an hour after I sprayed it on my wrist at the store.
I agree completely. I tried it a while back, boarded the hype train, and was let down. I demand a lot from a tobacco frag, because I love them as a general rule. This one fell short. Good/ok, but nowhere near what I wished it was, considering what Mugler has done. He stayed too safe and mainstream. Not enough dark and daring.. Cheers!

You should try xerjof Naxos smells fantastic but out of my price range,similar to pure havane but can 300ml of pure havane for the price of 100ml of Naxos
I prefer pure tonka and pure malt but I have this too and it’s ok. It’s very popular off hype.

Hi Aaron, have you tried Montabaco by Ormonde Jayne? It's a really nice tobacco fragrance, I have the intensivo version, not sure how different it is to the original but I would be interested to know your thoughts on it.

Because I build fragrance and use these aroma chemicals all the time I know what will be achieved quickly. I think all perfumers can do this.

A follow up to my comment 2 years ago. This is an absolute masterpiece of a fragrance as is the original A*Men. Those who think differently...well...good...more Havane for those who love it. A cult classic in the fragrance community for very good reason. Get your hands on a bottle before its completely gone because its likely only then that dissenters will realise just how awesome a fragrance it really is.
How does this compare to original a*men? Its a beautiful scent, but reformulation prob brought down performance a lil.

Would it be possible to use rum, the kind you can drink, as a perfume base instead of perfumer's alcohol?
I dont think so. If I remember rightly it goes cloudy with aroma chemicals. I tried it over 10 years ago to see what happened

The smell was also weaker compared to the 10ml sample I've received from you....I guess I got scammed? The bottle and everything is definitely yours, just the sprayer. Wanted to confirm :/

You should review Xerjoff Naxos, it's similar to Pure Havane.

Wow.......one thing I cant fault Pure Havane on at all is its performance...excellent projection sillage and longevity. Its also not what I would describe as light at all...in fact its rather dense and syrupy nature is almost too heavy and lends it almost exclusively to evening and cooler temp wear for me. I always get compliments from persons several feet away and hours after applying it. Its also quite non linear and develops into a wonderfully pleasant cherry/vanilla/tobacco/cacao combo after a couple of hours on the skin. The tobacco leaves becomes more prominent into the mid of the fragrance along with the vanilla which is when the cherry flavored cigar accord becomes prominent. Awesome fragrance and easily one of my most complimented from a large collection. For me, Havane is a much more distinctive fragrance than Pure Tonka and of the entire A'Men series it runs a close second to the original Amen.
good review, honestly. maybe your bottle is better macerated? how many sprays did you apply? I kind of had a similar impression as Aaron but I hope, it gets better with some oxygene inside the perfume, and let the bottle alone a few weeks. my wife loves it on me though, very much.
@@keep_walking_on_grassWhat I didn't say is that from my batch code it seems my bottle is a 2015 bottle which may explain the difference from Aaron's assessment. Two sprays behind each ear and its an all day affair of compliments and inquiries. Amazing fragrance. Its at it's best some 4-5hrs in....a very pleasant cherry/vanilla cigar smell that people (and myself) find extremely engaging. I love being out in social settings and seeing people looking around sniffing the air and asking whats that? (with a pleased look of course 😀)
@@robertarmstrong6015 sounds amazing. yesterday I asked Aaron here on youtube if he could make a video about maceration/maturation, and he says, he will do. I think, this is a very underrated topic. owners of fragrances often think, their bottle has a better batch. recently I watched an interview with Herbert Stricker, he is very experienced. he made Xerjoff big and whatnot. he knows what he is talking about. and he said, a fragrance changes with time when it gets older. So, people who own an old bottle know "their" fragrance very well, they get used to the smell, without being aware of the fact, that their scent has slowly aged. so when they smell a new produced bottle, they think .....omg what have they done.... they ruined Tobacco Vanille.... (lol). of course reformulations are happenig sometimes. but aging is *always happening* not sometimes only.
@@keep_walking_on_grass Yes...I do believe that maturation makes a difference in some fragrances...especially in the more dense base notes. Maceration I suspect is not much of an issue given that its a part of the perfume production process. I gather once the fragrance is bottled then thats the end of the maceration process given that the requisite conditions are no longer present. But maturation...or aging in the bottle definitely makes a difference in certain fragrances and Pure Havane is likely to be one such fragrance given that it is rather heavy in mid and basenotes. From day one my Havane was beastly in performance so I have not detected any change in that respect. I do think that it may have gotten somewhat more intense in its scent profile though...more rich. One fragrance that for me that smells considerable better 3 years or so after first spraying is CDNIM. A big difference. It has become smoother...yet stronger and longer lasting. Same for Play Intense which was rather weak when I purchased it about 4 years ago...but now its much more rich in character, longer lasting and projects more heavily. Of course these percieved changes may simply be perception based on any number of variables...but to my nose...those three fragrances in particular have definitely improved significantly over time.

Never heard anything bad about this frag. Haven't had the pleasure of smelling it either. Almost purchased Pure Malt last fall. Went with John Varvatos Dark Rebel instead, love it too btw.

I bought a bottle on release and it was amazing, but a newer bottle i bought was so disappointing and a waste of money. It was so weak and just reeked of alcohol.
When you said this is a great introductory tobacco, I couldn't have agreed more. As someone still very much enjoying the youth of my 20s I find most tobacco too mature for my tastes. This is the bridge. This is the tobacco, but not
I think it's pretty, but just like Tobacco Vanille, it has more of that vanilla sweetness than tobacco, which is disappointing. In a tobacco fragrance, I want that dry woody spicy herbal accord to scream and to be on top of all the other notes.
Tobacco vanille on me is shredded tobacco and a shit load of raisins and dried plum. Dried fruit note kills the Fragrance for me plus I don't get any " vanilla " just sweetness
It's a fruity vanilla accord that's supposed to emulate dried fruits. If it was less dominant and it let the tobacco shine, it would have been OK.
@@tonymalizia If you can, try older vintages of Tobacco Vanille. A year or so ago, I bought a 60 ml decant of TV from about 2014. It could just be me but myself and others feel it's more balanced. Vintages slightly older than that are said to be a little more tobacco dominant actually. I wasn't ready to make a big tobacco plunge yet so I didn't find out for myself, though.
Edit: I haven't tried Pure Havane, only Xerjoff's Naxos so I can't comment on that one! :P

I think this line was reformulated before discontinued because i have an old bottle of havane that lasts 10 hours and a newer bottle I get maybe 3 hours

I absolutely agree with you, Aaron, no diggity. Pure Havane lost its weight when 'Thierry Mugler' changed to become 'Mugler' couple of years ago which cut off half of its performance like a merciless knife (I believe it also affected the whole fragrances in the A*Men line). I have a decant of a vintage formulation and it performs beautifully with decent sillage and solid longevity. Unfortunately like you've said, the current formulation has a very light punch to it making it a shy fragrance. Too bad though I love the scent but I'm still having problem in finding a vintage full bottle here without costing an arm and a leg.

The only Thierry Mugler frags I've ever smelled are the infamous Angel & Alien, neither of which I even like, much less love. Pardon my straight forwardness, but Angel EDP smells exactly like my vagina when it is two days unwashed in the humid summer heat (I'm a Pennsylvania girl, so I've had my fair share of camping excursions to be certain of this lol). After spraying myself with Angel EDP, I went downstairs and the first thing my husband said was, "what were you doing up there?". I replied, "Playing in my perfumes". He said, "are you sure your weren't playing with something else that starts with a 'P'?" Lmao. He was amazed how much it smells like ripe vagina on me too. Now my beef with Alien is that it is extremely similar in smell to a generic bathroom deodorizer aerosol spray my parents always had growing up. I am one of five kids and we had ONE tiny bathroom. I'm sure you can imagine every time I stepped foot in there I had the pleasure of smelling that generic Jasmine deodorizer mixed with the smell of Eau de Feces. Such a delightful scent memory. I do own Alien and have worn it many of times, trying to smell it from a different perspective, but I can't with that one. If anyone else smells what I smell, please let me know. Everyone loves those two frags, and I'd love to hear that I'm not alone in this. 😂

Keep in mind, I am a total whore for patchouli. I was a teen during the 90's, loved wearing the roll on straight up patchouli from the head shops. I love dark sensual animalic frags, that's my jam. So why can't I get down with Angel?!

I mean I low fragrances but I’m not a collector. If I’m after a winter scent and I want that Smokey feel that burnt smell I will go for By The Fireplace. I don’t need Stronger with You anytime I might reach for that I’d pick By The Fireplace. Anytime I might want Pure Malt I would simply go 1-2 sprays of Baraonda. The Mugler’s aren’t the greatest in my opinion
