To be fair, this show did it perfectly. It had people of all groups, made jokes in good taste and never went too far while also poking fun at the weird things in the English language or customs that others might find weird. Truly the epitome of diversity that we could all appreciate. Nowadays if they make a show that's diverse at all they spend 10 press conferences telling you its diverse and how great it is because of that and you're racist if you don't enjoy it, almost egging people on to hate it. Like it's almost deliberate that they want you to be mad about it
Well there was a lot of actual racist stuff back then. People seem to conveniently ignore this and keep complaining about how supposedly sensitive everyone is now.
There's a big difference between joking about Arabs mannerisms or Spaniards mannerisms...etc, that are actually relatable and funny, and nowadays joking about Arabs being terrorists or barbaric. As an Arab these jokes (about terror) are never funny to me, not because I'm "offended" or "too sensitive" but because I literally cannot relate, it's irrelevant to me. I come from a country with no wars, we have zero terrorism, my country is pretty safe safer than most western countries, we also aren't barbaric we live normally like everyone else. So these jokes seem racist because they're not based on reality but based on racist stereotypes that are most of the time straight up political propaganda. If you want to joke with us, we don't have a problem whatsoever (we actually have great sense of humor) but at least try to understand who we are first.
But sir, even in my country malaysia, in old film, often show the Arabs will do that gesture.. i dont know where that come from but that gesture quite famous
Probably used by the older generation. The most common greeting takes the form of placing your right hand on your heart, touching your forehead and then over your head and you say 'As-Salaam-Alaikum',(meaning peace be with you).
I love how their interactions have many little nuances: +The english teacher is technically right about not teaching someone who already knows english but is being passive agressive about it and ignores the objectively ineligible accent of the chauffeur out of stubbornness +The director is clearly blinded by money, but has a point that anyone needing to learn english should be given a chance +The sheikh making a seemingly unreasonable demand but is willing to pay for it and isn't arrogant or rude plus he's doing out of loyalty to his father's debt Besides that poor chauffeur really needs pronunciation lessons, i doubt even scots would understand his thick accent If only to help his daily life and social interactions
@@ajaxkmr1986 Unfortunately, don't have season 4, but I haven't even completed the other seasons, also my dad shared a video of how Ranjeed is now, he has fixed his pronunciation, Alhamdulillah, many years to all of us (and yes, Rajeed would definitely kill me if he finds out a muslim is saying Alhamdulillah for him).
