  • This time on Pete And His Bus we go back and have a look at all the work we have done on RM843 (the bus in the field) and I reveal what has happened recently! It might not be good news, and by the looks of it an emergency plan is needed to save her again!!
    I would like to thank:
    Matt for helping me push!
    Will and Rob at: www.dynesmotorgroup.co.uk/dynes-recovery
    The owners of RM843
and all of you for watching!

About Pete And His Bus: Pete is a normal (ish) guy who has a big passion for old vehicles and particularly old buses. He is NOT a trained mechanic nor is he a professional restorer. He enjoys converting vehicles but he can not promise that what he is doing is going to work on your vehicle. Nor can he promise that you won’t harm yourself if you were you to attempt the things he does. He recommends that you are safe and responsible with machinery and equipment even if you’ve seen him messing about with it. A workshop and it’s content can be a dangerous place. If you are in doubt about your own vehicle, contact a professional for advice.

So the owners would rather it stays in a field and rot than selling it to you? But are happy for you to fix it for free? And store it for them for free? I can see you genuinely care about the history behind the bus which is why you are doing what you are doing but the owners seem to be taking you for a ride which is sad 😔 if they cared at all for the bus they would sell it to you at a heavy discount for the work you have already put into it

My father was a driver in the Royal Engineers during WW2 from 1939 onwards. In the early 60s I remember going with him to the Chiswick bus dept for him to take his Public Vehicle test which he passed. He was then based at Mortlake garage and later used to drive RMs on the 96 bus route to Dartford and I remember seeing him parked up outside the Museum in Market street. England today seems like another world now, far removed from the country he and his comrades thought they had saved. 😢

Hello Pete, thank you for another video. Really enjoyed watching. Good to watch the recap on the bus that you worked on and pleased that it has got a safe place to live now instead of being in the field. I’ll look forward watching all the work that gets carried out on it in the future.

This made me so happy and actually brought a sentimental tear to my eye. Until the age of 6 I lived in a British Leyland 600. Long before the New Age movement (I'm 45 now). The day my parents sold it and the new owners drove it away, I was inconsolable. Apparently it was to make it's way to Portugal, but I have no idea if it did or where it is now.
My parents would take it to the odd fair and festival but it was mainly static whilst they built/converted our new home. When ever I step into one of these classic split cab buses, it feels like a home coming to me. ❤️

They are inherently extremely resilient. There’s a big thud though as the rear brakes in-seize. That’s the only place they get very stuck. 👍

Kind of remembers me of when once thought to myself: "Uh, it won't hurt if I just left the car unlocked for a minute in front of my own house, I'll be back in no time..." And then a tramp sat in it smoking and burning the carpet.

You know we all have problems..
    And l have skin cancer..
So at present watching a lot on TH-cam and 95% is really boring...you know 🥱🥱😴😴
However, this video, was lovely, thoughtful and caring...
Those buses are history, as l remember the factory near my aunts house..(Ironbridge).
With regards to those 'oiks' vandalising that piece of history...well not a lot can be said. Imbacils...
Are and always will be..no morals....
    Shame on their parents too..
I am so pleased it's in a barn with it's friends...and people who care..
    Made my day...well done 👍.

Great job! You can take a length of heavy pipe or box tube a few meters long and drop a chain through it, leaving just enough to hook it up. Then hook up the chain between the vehicles to something solid, wiring the hooks to keep them from coming loose. This makes a poorman's tow bar that will push or pull. Just hook it short on the ends so it doesn't push back into something critical.

Oh geez, Pete. Now you've done it.
I think you're going to have to unplug Compo's battery and hide him under a good hefty tarp for a week and hope he forgets.
In his mind this Herculean effort was all directed by him, and all thanks to him was accomplished. Maybe if you drain his fluids all memory will be lost and when you wake him up, he'll see a "new" bus and just think you're as mad as he already thinks you are.
    One can hope.
Truly an amazing effort and the beginning of a restoration that will definitely be worth watching.
I had a bit of personal experience of that kind, many years ago. I bought a 28' (single-deck) school bus from an auction and had it towed. The garage it was towed to had a resident equivalent of Lord Barrington who loved working on International engines. Brilliant work, and inexpensive because I had tripped over a door lintel and gave the auctioneer a strange handshake. Everything went strangely well thereafter. Bizarre, but true.
