    I was looking for an outdoor camera to keep an eye on my dogs in the yard when I'm not home. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe Tried a different one that was absolutely terrible, so I got these instead. They work perfectly! With 3 of these cameras I can see every corner of the yard, and they were very easy to set up. The best part is I only get the footage I want to see, not hours of videos of the bird feeder swaying in the breeze.

    Thanks for the whole " getting the case opened without damaging it" that really helped.
    I would say that it would have been a good thing to add a tag about taking the SD card out before opening up the case...
    I almost broke my SD card like you did.
    One other thing, I decided to leave the stock antenna connected and just solder on my new antenna. I worked out fine... Doubling my signal strength.
    Thanks for your video!

    After a year of thinking about doing this I finally did it.
    I was not able to play events from my cam because they would not upload to cloud and I could barely connect, but worked good enough I could see picture of event.
    Camera is outside behind stone walls, router is in basement far away.
    I added the same antenna as him, very simple, and now I can play events, see cam live in good quality, the connection is 2-3 bars but is good that I can do everything without problems.

    Same here. I have a V2 working 200 yards down the hill at a deer feeder, powered by a battery, solar panel and 12V to 5V converter, but I've been wanting to watch the deer in the dark, too. So glad you showed the way. I wonder if I put the connector on the bottom of the cam housing and let the antenna hang down rather than point up if it would work as well. I assume it would. I'd want it that way to keep the wind or leaves from blowing it over and keeping half of it behind the camera instead of in the open where it can receive the signal from my panel antenna at the house better. Thanks again for the instructions on just getting in to the housing.

    • @netfolks
      @netfolks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you again, Roger, for showing us how to get the camera open. I finished my first one and it is working great. That was the strangest WiFi antenna inside that I've ever seen. A friend tells me it is a "gamma" type antenna. I was wondering how you chose which solder point to make for the two wires on the antenna cable. When I tested with a VOM I found continuity no matter which solder spot I touched, as if it were shorted out. We'll have a lot of fun watching for the deer at that feeder, day or night. It is the best game camera now that we have, even beating the cellular ones since it is live video.

      LOL that antenna is MASSIVE. I feel like this could have been done a LOT quicker. I don't know if that antenna is sealed ENOUGH/you probably want to put a some sealer, at the bottom of the antenna.
      I would probably just get multiple wireless extenders, I have 17 wireless extenders in my house, this solution MAY be more practical.

    Nicely done! you look like you have done it few times in past. but this method isn't for the faint of heart. Soldering skills are required and removing the rubber clogging the screws is pain in butt if you accidentally push them down and have to fish em out with a needle and remember to remove sd Card before prying the cam out of case or you will damage the sd card slot (like I did😅) since it is sticking out slightly. and do not use any instant-glue inside just use two-part epoxy. and you can diy your own antenna from any sma cable or cable TV coaxial ones. Personally I'm not sure if it improved my range but after changing an old charger with a new one made my cam work fine again but the antenna mod must have worked too.

Are the two attachment points interchangeable or does it have to be the exact locations you briefly flashed?

    Just one small note. Regular silicone releases acetic acid when curing (this is why it smells like vinegar). This is corrosive to the electronics. So you might want to at least wait for it to fully cure (I would wait 48h at least !) before closing, or, even better, use a neutral-curing silicone (you need to ask the vendor of the silicone, or sometimes it is written on the packaging) or gasket maker. This is especially a concern since the V3 is waterproof, you don't want the electronics to be sealed with acidic vapors forever.

    Nice. I did this to 3 of my v2s. Now they are in a box in my garage since I purchased 6 new v3s. Questions:
    1. Does it matter what side you solder the shielded wire and the center wire to the motherboard?
    2. Any reason why one has to pick a corner to drill? Can you just do it on the back middle?

    • @rahjer5
      @rahjer5  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it matters what side you solder the wires to. They have to be on the inside of the rear motherboard. You can't do the back middle unless you want to remove the speaker

    • @netfolks
      @netfolks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tiger, what about question #1, which was also my question. It was hard to tell in the video. Would be great if you stated "shield is soldered to post closest to side. Center wire next. 3rd post vacant." That's what I did. Seems to work.

      Still no confirmation about where the shield and center conductor of the antenna wire should be soldered. Three solder spots were melted to remove the board antenna.

    Ok. So this is an odd question. Long story short I accidentally yanked cleanly the wiring from the back of the 2 day old wyze v3 camera. Looking for a diagram/photo of the wiring.

  • @bwfollis

    Do you have to remove the old antenna? Can you just solder on the wires and leave the old one too?

    • @netfolks
      @netfolks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, You can't. That would short out your connection to the new antenna. The existing one is a gamma antenna. If you look at it you'll see it looks like a direct short between those solder points. It would prevent signal to and from your new antenna if left in place.

      You are correct. It appears the 'middle' one is positive (wired) and the 2 sides that supported the metal frame are both ground on the ends, so either end would work to the braided shield ground wire.

    I haven't seen anyone ask about weather-proofing the external antenna. What kind of durability might we expect if these antennas are exposed to the rain or snow? Does anyone know? I've had V2's outside (some more exposed than others) that have lasted quite a while, but the Amazon housings' screws rusted up something awful. The housings, being plastic, didn't suffer any noticeable problems besides getting stiffer and harder to pop open.
    Also, was curious about just which contact point was soldered to the ground/shielding on the antenna and which went to the main (inside?) line? If there were three solder points to take the old antenna off, how do you know which 2 to use with the new one?
    Thank you, for the great video!

    • @wellcraft19

      As you can see in the video, he sealed the mounting for the new antenna connector with silicon (or similar). Hence, should be just as good as new. The actual coax connector is already sealed.
