  • Today, we are going to check and test out the Wyze Cam Window Mount for the Wyze Cam V3. I'm glad that wyze decided to make this accessory because if you use your Wyze Cam looking through a glass window setup, any product or accessory that makes you easily mount your camera to the window and also reduces glare and glass reflections are welcomed.
    So, we will do a quick unboxing, installation and test and compare the footages between a Wyze Cam V3 mounted using their regular mount compared to a Wyze Cam that is mounted using the Wyze window mount and see if this 10 dollar mount is worth it to buy.

    I'm finally ready to set mine up and man this window mount fits the camera like a glove. Very good on Wyze's part. I own my home and I don't like the look of running wires but I love to have surveillance on what's going on outside my home. You can't beat the value of this product.

    I've used a nest indoor camera on glass, I did have to use black gaffers tape to seal around it to keep ambient light out.
    That mounting system is pretty slick.

    Thanks for the video! I have the same problem only worse with the sun coming up on my back windows and the blind reflection is terrible through half the day! This gives me ideas for my other behind-glass mounted cameras! I can have a buddy 3D print me a similar setup for the other camera brands I use. As I am a CAD designer I can model up CAD for a 3D printer to print me some custom bezels. I chose the behind the glass approach as they work well even at night and didn't require me to drill a bunch of holes into my house and swapping batteries when it's 10below outside as can do this in the comfort from inside my house with much less hassle.

    This is a very niche product. As there is no ability to change the angle of the mount at all. If you just happen to have a window at just the right place to place a camera without pointing it up, down, right, or left, then yes it seems like a good option. I have two such windows in my house. But both would require drilling a hole through the floor to run power from the basement. I have one in each bedroom mounted against the glass. If you mount them near the top the blinds and drapes will likely not interfere and prevent glare. The biggest issue is that USB power cable running across the top of the window. My wife will regularly disconnect the camera accidently or pull on the cable to unplug it. That is a serious problem regardless of what type of mount you use.

      This is the problem I have. Cannot tilt the camera if it is set into the window mount and my window is high. In order to see my whole garden I need to tilt it down.

    Another option, and what I did for two of my Wyze outdoor cams: buy a long, flat USB cable. Mount the camera on the outside of house and route the cable through the window and plug it into an outlet inside. The windows will close just fine on top of the cable. This way you can still use the IR lights and get a much better picture and audio quality.

    Hello LifeHackster, I marvel at your simple eloquence. Your videos are simply the best. With that said I would love it if you could touch on a topic that few have. I just bought two of newest Wyze Cam v3 cameras from possibly what may be an Amazon link however the cameras I got seem different in the sense that they don't have an SD card slot in the back. Mine have what appears to be a micro-SD card instead on the upper top left of the camera with the reset button on the right. Where the sense of frustration comes in is when we try to switch this version over to the custom beta firmware in order to allow it to use what is called RTSP (real time streaming protocol) whenever I say RTSP I keep hearing Aretha Franklin's voice singing those letters and saying, 'Find out what it means to me."

    • @yadrak2354
      @yadrak2354 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the RTSP if done correctly should allow you to use your Wyze cam v3 camera (that has a micro-SD card similar to what you would call a 'nano-sim' in your smartphone. They are equivalent in size) for use with your own NVR setup using 'Agent-UI' (in my case) or 'Blue Iris' in others. You could even use OBS Studio if you wanted to record footage from the cameras. These seem to provide the best solutions for Windows Users with 'Agent-UI' being the main one I'm using now.

    • @yadrak2354
      @yadrak2354 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And finally. In every video I've seen and instructional guide the images shown don't reflect that the Wyze Cam v3 sold in the U.S. is using the Micro-SD card not the SD-CARD. The instructionals also show it being inserted INCORRECTLY. It should be inserted the OPPOSITE way from shown in the instruction guides in order for it to sit flush inside the back of the camera. Also when you are flashing the Wyze Cam v3 and you hold in the reset button while powering it on and you see the blue light indicating the firware flash was successful. You will then be confronted with a flashing or blinking LED which will make you think you've broken your new camera. You haven't. You will however need to re-pair your camera by that I mean re-sync it with the wyze app by pushing the reset button until you hear the prompt, 'Ready'. Then you click Add new device in the wyze app to regenerate your New QR code which you will have to let the Wyze version 3 cam scan before it will be available once more in the Wyze App. There's an additional step however this has been long winded enough. Please make video on this process if you will. Thank-you.

    2 options get black blinds or curtains or do both to eliminate glare.

  • @MrHeHim
    @MrHeHim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just use and extension and the flat cable it comes with fits perfectly though the top of the window. Just lower the upper part of the window and lay it on top then carefully push it back up, there's a small gasket/brush that will prevent it from crushing. Then to mount i recommend to use a light solvent (WD-40) to clean the area and isopropyl alcohol to clean the solvents, then mount the metal plate with the 3M sticker for a very good secure mount. Boom! the V3 is rain resistant and bobs your uncle
    Now you can use angles, night vision, speaker/mic without interference other than the natural elements lol

    Have you ever looked into IR Illuminators? I just discovered these the other day when surfing for ways to improve night vision distance. If the night vision (IR LEDs) have to be turned off, or the night vision doesn't go far enough, an IR Illuminator can be used to act like a flood light (invisible to humans) for the camera. I don't have an IR illuminator yet, so I cannot comment on how well it works. Maybe it can be a supplement in your videos when describing night vision.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. IR illuminators can supplement your cameras IR night vision except a lot of cameras including the wyze cam V3.. if you turn off night vision it will also turn it to color mode which the IR Illuminator will have no benefit. I think the V2 of the wyze cam, at least the last time I tested it, you can separately turn off the IR and leave it in black and white mode. Still the best set up for camera through glass is color night vision and you just have to add some lighting outside.

    does the motion sensor work through the glass?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes...most if not all plug in cameras like this Wyze Cam V3 uses camera based detection which works behind glass. Now, battery powered cameras on the other hand will not work because they use a PIR motion sensor which detects heat movement and will not work through glass.

    Am I understanding that when using these in a window they won't work at night?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to have some lighting on the outside because you need to turn off the camera's IR. With the Wyze V3, it has a starlight sensor..so it just needs some ambient lighting to be able to see at night.

  • @Rockaland2
    @Rockaland2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can say this.. wyze has 2 good things going for it .. 1:cost and 2: color night vision. I just finally put mine outside with outdoor power and was surprised it lite up the darkness like it was day time.. I was very impressed.. so i did a search for " color night vision " and Reolink duo has it and swann enforcer 4k has it. why this is important.? is because you can see what color shirt the crook has on and other details you can not see at night.. but for the win I give it to wyze for a cheap camera that has great night vision
    can you do a review of Amaryllo - Zeus Biometric auto tracking ( plugs into light bulb) and Swann Enforcer 4k color night vision and Sunba PTZ ?

    My night vision on one of my wyze v3 cameras is against a glass window, thus I had to turn off IR lights, set as Dusk and night vision as AUTO. I have lights outside so it is picking up the lights and I can only get BLACK and WHITE nigh vision. Color in the day, black and white at night. I do NOT know how to get Color at night. Your video did not address this problem. It stated that I should add an outside light, but I already have one and I can not get COLOR at night

    A simple hack is just to cut out a cardboard and paint it black. Cut out a square for the camera and that is it you now eliminated the glare. This stuff is too expensive for what it is.

    So what you're saying is that this is actually an outdoor camera, and if you use it indoors, it loses all of it's selling points? What good is a camera in 2022, that can't see in the dark? Plus, why does Wyze seek blame the customer for 'not setting it right' if Wyze only send permanent stick strips, instead of suckers, which would allow for movement of the camera?? Especially if they went to the trouble of a magnetic mount to begin with? You've told me that buying this product would be unwyze, if you need an indoor cctv camera. Just sell it as an exterior camera and you are fine?!?! I will check out all your other review videos though. This cam is just not good enough for indoor use.
