Spirit Tracks has some of the best music of any Zelda game and the best iteration of Princess Zelda yet. The actual gameplay leaves quite a bit to be desired, but the game will always have a very special place in my heart.
It's a shame that it's a game where the controls are a make or break point. This case it's either you hate it or tolerate them. You can't convince me that anyone actually likes the controls
Agreed, and I feel like Nintendo gave up on instruments after the game which is a shame as while I'm not very good at them do I love the music segments, learned more about music in general from them than in music class at school.
I think it’s interesting that I actually love the Temple of the Ocean King for similar reasons to why you hate it. I love the concept of a dungeon you have to return to intermittently and slowly make progress throughout the course of a game’s story. The dungeon being a stealth segment on a timer helped make it intense and always kept me on edge while also being a unique gameplay switch-up to the rest of the game. The puzzles were pretty interesting the first go-around and subsequent visits to the Temple let you use your newly acquired items to make shortcuts to get through the temple faster (something you for some reason neglected to mention). You can even get the last two ocean charts in one go if you want to challenge yourself and feel you have enough time remaining. I never got the hate for this place. Then again, I never get the hate for forced stealth sections in video games in general, as someone who finds stealth gameplay really engaging.
NEW ANT DUDE VIDEO!! LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!! (edit: i know it's an assortment of old videos, but it's still, in technicality, a newly uploaded video in general.)
I’ve literally started a playthrough of minish cap a few days ago. Didn’t realize how important the kinstone were and why I couldn’t progress when I played ages ago.
Four Swords Anniversary was my first Zelda game precisely because it was free. I wouldn’t mind seeing it remade again, perhaps bundled with a new 2D Zelda. Anyways, I had the most fun with Link Between Worlds. 8:34 I do wonder why Nintendo had the Famicom/NES along with the Game Boy line only have A and B for face buttons. Like it’s odd that they waited until the DS to add the X and Y buttons to a handheld system. Anyways, the sidescrolling sections of Links Awakening showed how they could possibly do another game in the vein of Zelda 2. Also imagine if we got to return to Subcon in a future 2D Mario game and the special world was actually Koholint Island itself. 0:37 I still wish that they made an original 3D Mario for the DS
This is nice to have while waiting for a non complication video tho I wouldn’t mind the compilations I do prefer the regular videos it’s still cool seeing stuff I may have missed out on
@ I don't know. It's especially frustrating when something is almost good but stubborn decisions hold it back. Describes Nintendo as a company perfectly.
@ Am with Laps here. I have played both Zelda DS games and Kid Icarus Uprising and not even once did I have trouble with its controls. So I honestly cannot agree here.
21:25 - right story wrong order of operations. The remake became Seasons. There was going to be a 3rd game as stated in Nintendo Power. We don't know what that 3rd game would've entailed. However, Capcom was working on a Z1 remake before Nintendo asked if they could do multiple games.
13:05 When I played the non DX version on the game and watch thingy I was so weirded out that there was NOTHING where the photobooth/dungeon editor building is. Like it seems like the kind of place that AnyAustin could make a whole video about.
You should care about the lore antdude! Its great! Also glad you are back! Also you didn't finish the sentence again so I will do it for you! Legend of Zelda is a great franchise and its fun! There finished it for you you're welcome!
Awesome to see the handhelds contents not much out on TH-cam hope to see more !! ❤I started with game boy color and had all Nintendo handhelds love them
I probably shouldn't be shocked this video is two hours long, but I do tend to forget there are way more handheld Zeldas than just the three gameboy ones.
I haven't gotten far enough in the video to know if it's mentioned or not, but Ant is incorrect about the Riddle Quest. You need to get 10 Medals of Courage, which is earned by beating a stage in Four Swords and having the most money by the end of it, in order to do the Riddle Quest.
Zelda has some of the best handheld games that transcend that and are just amazing games in their own right... all of them except the ones that need touch screen.
I’m pretty sure the story is actually Seasons started as a full remake of Zelda 1, not the unfinished game That’s why seasons first dungeon is literally just the first from Zelda 1
the oracle games are so underrated, im the same as you where my favorite was ages as well. although personally i like doing ages second becuases if you do it first theres 1 map square you can never fill out and it drives me crazy lol
I'm a huge fan of "frog game" so I was very shocked to hear it come up in this zelda video... I don't think there's any good excuse to bring up this game in this video since they were developed by mostly different teams and Richard being in Link's Awakening is about as significant as Kirby another gameboy character being in it, but I can't deny its inclusion here made me very happy, hehe. More frog game propaganda is never a bad thing
Yea I found out that when you have headphones in and you have to blow into the microphone it does not work. I was on a trip with some people and kept blowing harder and harder and they were asking what I was doing lol.
So my least favorite game in the franchise is FSA and I unironically like Triforce Heroes. That game was fun. Played with a buddy and another guy, who had to have their hand held through everything. However once my buddy and I went online, matched with a random person, all of us had the Fierce Deity outfit and for about 2 hours there was no need for communication, we were all perfectly in sync, once one person moved the other two knew what to do. It was the smoothest online gaming experience I’ve ever had
I recently beat Echoes of Wisdom after beating every other Zelda game previously and now I'm 100% completing all of them. I'm at Four Swords now and yeah... I wish I could play this game with friends :/
The only handheld Zelda game I've played is Link Between Worlds. I did get to experience Link's Awakening Remake on the Switch and while I did enjoy the game, I still prefer Link Between Worlds. It's not just my favorite handheld Zelda game at that point, but it's probably my favorite Zelda game in general. Tied with Majora's Mask.
OK, but now that I played both. I think Echoes of Wisdom is a prequel to Link's Awakening... Assuming they take place, in the same universe 'Cause in EoW, Link and Zelda don't know each other. But in LW, Link does mention Zelda in the beginning
That's the most superficial connection of all time. Most Links don't know Zelda at the start of their quest. Are you sure it's not a sequel to Twilight Princess instead?
36:20 Ahh yes, American's fall asleep if their dopamine intake isn't fed constantly by something happened ALL the time. Listen both in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks I didn't mind the passive modes of transportation at all... because they aren't passive. On the boat you have to deal with enemies, and also the map ain't nearly as big as Wind Waker. And in Spirit Tracks you need to account for sharp turns by slowing down. This honestly felt like nitpicking for the sake having something to complain about. That or Andy really just has that much ADHD that it genuinely bothers him.
I played link between worlds entirely in my 5 day diverticulitis hosptial stay. Id never beaten a zelda game so quickly and due to the circumstances it just doesnt hold the same power on me that it does everybody else i think i even got rid of it after i beat it. I kinda want to replay it tho.
There is one. One thing the GB version of Link's Awakening does better than the color version. Only one. The Map glitch. I've done swordless runs of that version thanks to the map glitch. It's fun and chaotic and I can't believe the amount of enemies and midbosses that are immune to everything BUT the sword. Seriously. Check it out. Bur save often because it's easily possible to softlock yourself with that glitch.
1:17:40 Excuse me but WHY does one pair have to be BETTER than the other? Doesn't that depend on what you are looking for? Are you actively trying to trigger those who like the Zelda duology?
The oracle games is basically a better game ripped into two halves. It's like if Sonic had a game only about being an mach 10 obstacle course and a game only about exploration and both suffered from the hyperfocus leading to jank design. *looks at Sonic 2 and CD* Ah man...
Agreed, and I feel like Nintendo gave up on instruments after the game which is a shame as while I'm not very good at them do I love the music segments, learned more about music in general from them than in music class at school.
what i love about Spirit Tracks is almost everyone thats a big character has there name based off something related to a train
“Ah I’m sorry to hear about your brother…he gets five big booms”
All I could think about when the bridge guy said boom
I think it’s interesting that I actually love the Temple of the Ocean King for similar reasons to why you hate it. I love the concept of a dungeon you have to return to intermittently and slowly make progress throughout the course of a game’s story. The dungeon being a stealth segment on a timer helped make it intense and always kept me on edge while also being a unique gameplay switch-up to the rest of the game. I never got the hate for this place. Then again, I never get the hate for forced stealth sections in video games in general, as someone who finds stealth gameplay really engaging.
Yeah! Figuring out how to use new items to create shortcuts was the most fun part to me lol
NEW ANT DUDE VIDEO!! LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!
(edit: i know it's an assortment of old videos, but it's still, in technicality, a newly uploaded video in general.)
These are technically not even new videos, read the description.
No its not
a summation of the modern entertainment industry
ah, the microphone gimmicks... still remember when i had to shout-whisper "objection" to finish an ace attorney game while on a crowded train
Like as if that's the craziest thing yelled on a public transport.
that's memorable but was saying objection specifically required or do you just have to blow on the mic
I need some more new videos man. Compilations of old ones ain’t enough
It's not enough to watch AntDude, I need to breathe his air
Dawg the last one he uploaded was one
I’ve literally started a playthrough of minish cap a few days ago. Didn’t realize how important the kinstone were and why I couldn’t progress when I played ages ago.
The sad part about this compilation is that it might be a loooooong time before this video is outdated.
Okay so I love you and this but I probably wont watch until tomorrow at work. But I will watch the whole thing.
Link between worlds is just my favorite Zelda game ever honestly
Easily top 3 for me
It's tied with Majora's Mask as my most favorite Zelda game.
Phantom Hourglass will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my first Zelda game.
Linebeck is the GOAT!
Same 😭 it's just so good
I JUST binge watched some of your older stuff for the last 2 days, just cause I missed ya. Glad to have this new video! Thank you, Ant Dude!!
A reminder that I'm probably one of the only people that liked the Temple of the Ocean King
we're a very small group indeed
It's comforting to know how utterly alone... We aren't.
I wish all of these could be remastered to switch 2! I’d love to play spirit tracks and others again
Four Swords Anniversary was my first Zelda game precisely because it was free. I wouldn’t mind seeing it remade again, perhaps bundled with a new 2D Zelda. Anyways, I had the most fun with Link Between Worlds.

0:37 I still wish that they made an original 3D Mario for the DS
If Phantom Hourglass has one fan, I'm that fan. If Phantom Hourglass has no fans, I'm dead and all that
This is nice to have while waiting for a non complication video tho I wouldn’t mind the compilations I do prefer the regular videos it’s still cool seeing stuff I may have missed out on
Yo Antdude, you good? It’s been a while since we heard from you last.
I made it entirely through the original game using a super Game Boy and talking to Ulrira. It was hellish but super satisfying.
Yo I love your music it’s so amazing.
This is amazing! Loving the first segment. Brings me back to a time, even if I wasn’t playing them!
i think he's playing zelda hand held games fr fr
I still disagree with you Ant. For me, the DS duo are heavily underrated. Its controls were barely a problem.
But they would be better without the control impediments. Same with Star Fox Zero.
They could be even better without those crap controls, tbh tbh.
Yeah they’re not ideal but far from horrible. I feel like the hate is a little overblown
The handheld Zelda games are some of my favorites!!!!
Linebeck deserves to be in a console Game
No one really likes Spirit Tracks. But it has a special place in my heart. Also I think it has one of the best soundtracks in the franchise
46:24 Draglia Lost, my beloved. I will always miss you.
21:25 - right story wrong order of operations. The remake became Seasons. There was going to be a 3rd game as stated in Nintendo Power. We don't know what that 3rd game would've entailed. However, Capcom was working on a Z1 remake before Nintendo asked if they could do multiple games.
Now let's see a FULL ON Handheld Games Video Compilations.
13:05 When I played the non DX version on the game and watch thingy I was so weirded out that there was NOTHING where the photobooth/dungeon editor building is. Like it seems like the kind of place that AnyAustin could make a whole video about.
phantom hourglass... one of the most underrated Zelda games
You should care about the lore antdude! Its great! Also glad you are back! Also you didn't finish the sentence again so I will do it for you! Legend of Zelda is a great franchise and its fun! There finished it for you you're welcome!
LETS GOOOOOO!!!! Links Awakening and Minish Cap are my favorite 2D games!
Awesome to see the handhelds contents not much out on TH-cam hope to see more !! ❤I started with game boy color and had all Nintendo handhelds love them
Thank you Antony for keeping the TH-camr Jingle Alive.
I probably shouldn't be shocked this video is two hours long, but I do tend to forget there are way more handheld Zeldas than just the three gameboy ones.
If Nintendo ever decide to release prince of sable to Nintendo Switch 2 online ill be happy
Or an actual new game or remake.
Minish Cap my beloved
Fav TH-camr by far
I haven't gotten far enough in the video to know if it's mentioned or not, but Ant is incorrect about the Riddle Quest. You need to get 10 Medals of Courage, which is earned by beating a stage in Four Swords and having the most money by the end of it, in order to do the Riddle Quest.
All the Zelda handheld games are great in my opinion
TY Antony for new video.
Oh yea I been waiting on this one
Oh my gosh. TWO HOURS!?
Omg my favorite TH-camr posted!?!
He is back!
my favourite zelda was the one for the virtual boy. lots of fond memories with that one
I started with Link’s awakening as my first Zelda game… most of my friends thought I was were for not starting with Ocarina of Time.
Will you be tackling some of the insane 3D Zelda romhacks in a video?
Zelda has some of the best handheld games that transcend that and are just amazing games in their own right... all of them except the ones that need touch screen.
Watched the likes counter roll from 100 to 500 while I was watching. Great vid as always mans, I gave it a thumbs up too
I’m pretty sure the story is actually Seasons started as a full remake of Zelda 1, not the unfinished game
That’s why seasons first dungeon is literally just the first from Zelda 1
YEAAAHHHH NEW ANTDUDE
the oracle games are so underrated, im the same as you where my favorite was ages as well. although personally i like doing ages second becuases if you do it first theres 1 map square you can never fill out and it drives me crazy lol

More frog game propaganda is never a bad thing
I ended up having to pause this video to just sit and chill and listen to a remix of the _Tarm Ruins_ theme.
Yea I found out that when you have headphones in and you have to blow into the microphone it does not work. I was on a trip with some people and kept blowing harder and harder and they were asking what I was doing lol.
Didn't realize i missed your videos until now. 😊
Keep it up man.
Honey wake up ant dude dropped a new video
So my least favorite game in the franchise is FSA and I unironically like Triforce Heroes. That game was fun. Played with a buddy and another guy, who had to have their hand held through everything. This is like one of your Ant Sleep Videos
You dare disrespect my precious child Moosh?
Dimitri also needs some love.
I recently beat Echoes of Wisdom after beating every other Zelda game previously and now I'm 100% completing all of them. I'm at Four Swords now and yeah... I wish I could play this game with friends :/
The DS titles are underrated as Hell!
No. DS Zelda is Zelda as it's worst.
They would remake them with controls that aren't antithetical to fun.
5:23 the devs for links awakening were probably inspired by the frog game, and maybe sold well in Japan.
I thought you'd posted this video twice now, not that I mind lol
Video came out just in time for dinner
Thanks for making it clear that it's a compilation ❤
hm, thought i was subscribed already, saw a bunch of your videos and i could swore i was but i fixed that!
Ahh what the heck, this is making me want to replay PH again lmao
Heck yeah!
My Personal Favorite Handheld Zelda was Minish Cap, it was fun as Hell, But it was taken over by Tears of the Kingdom.
Ahhh…the good Zelda games.
I hated the flute mechanic from Phantom Hourglass, and I absolutely LOATHE the train in Phantom Tracks
I genuinely have trouble telling is this is a meme or you having a swing and a miss.
1:38:28
Zelda calls upon 6 maidens
Dark link seals away the 6 maidens
Zelda is now maidenless :(
I had the 3ds TP trailer and sold it at CEX for about 30 quid when I was a broke-ass uni student back in 2008 😢
Is this new or just a compilation of previous ones?
Compilation
1 hour gang!!!👇
LINEBECK APPRECIATIONNNN
My favorite Zelda’s 🫶
My favorite handheld zelda game is minish cap and link between world
44:43 Hey that poster is on my kids wall.
Legend of link!!!
Damn I was just about to go to bed 😂
OK, but now that I played both. I think Echoes of Wisdom is a prequel to Link's Awakening... Assuming they take place, in the same universe

@@lpfan4491yes, because the artstyles aren't the same
Look, it's just a fun theory, don't think too much into it
I recently beat Minish Cap! 😃
36:20 Ahh yes, American's fall asleep if their dopamine intake isn't fed constantly by something happened ALL the time. Minish Cap!!! MINIIIIIISH CAAAAAPP!!!!!
I played link between worlds entirely in my 5 day diverticulitis hosptial stay. Id never beaten a zelda game so quickly and due to the circumstances it just doesnt hold the same power on me that it does everybody else i think i even got rid of it after i beat it. I kinda want to replay it tho.

Also that you don't have to relinquish your name to 100%.(Yes, the photo sidequest's addition has a negative.)
Is that Kai the kangaroo on the thumbnail? 😂😂😂
It’s Ricky from Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Link Cables… get it?
At first I thought you just uploaded the 2D Zelda video again😭
Did he really say “trident true method”
This video was uploaded at 20:00
20:07
1:17:40 Excuse me but WHY does one pair have to be BETTER than the other? Doesn't that depend on what you are looking for? Are you actively trying to trigger those who like the Zelda duology?
The performance of links awakening hd is sad. I would've rather had segmented open worlds than have a hd Gameboy game drop frames constantly
The oracle games is basically a better game ripped into two halves. It's like if Sonic had a game only about being an mach 10 obstacle course and a game only about exploration and both suffered from the hyperfocus leading to jank design. *looks at Sonic 2 and CD* Ah man...
Majora’s Mask 3D is perfect
