Mario actually says "So long, eh Bowser?!". The reason the line is missing in the Switch version is because it's actually the japanese Shindou version, which added Rumble Pak support and the Peach voice over that was previously not in the original japanese version. The line "So long, eh Bowser?!" is missing from every japanese version and the reason is that, in Japan, Bowser is not named Bowser, but rather "Kuppa". So, having Mario randomly calling him Bowser in one of the voice lines would have just confused japanese players. Since the Switch version is the Shindou version on which a patch for textures and language is applied, it makes sense why the line cannot be heard there. Hope I was able to explain this well! EDIT: I didn't think this comment would be this popular! Thanks for the MANY people who reminded me he says King and not eh. I learned that a long time ago but for some reason, a memory of someone saying it was "Eh" left a bigger impression on me so I guess it took over my memories. Thanks for many replies though.
I feel so dumb, not knowing about the Shindou version. I've gotten multiple comments already specifically about this, so it seems to be common knowledge, but totally went over my head. I really wish I could update videos after uploading them and replace them without it having to be an entirely new video. Oh well. I do appreciate you all pointing these things out though! I do plan to make a video going over all my mistakes, and this will certainly be on there!
@@NEScRETRO Yeah, sorry, I wrote this before seeing other comments. But if it can help spread this cool trivia about Super Mario 64's history, I think we all win! Also, no sweat. Everyone makes mistakes. The Shindou version is not all that well known either. I'm looking forward to your next video. They're always a joy to watch!
The change in switch port is actually because of bowser’s new sexual identity. He used to be gay, but recently found out he was attracted to women, which mean he is actually bisexual. Mario, being an ally of the LGTBQ+ community, respected his new orientation, which is why when you throw him he says “Bye, Bi”.
Nah, he says Bye, Bye Anyway, why Nintendo would allow Mario degrading Bowser with such homophobic quotes? Even if Bowser is gay or bi, Nintendo will never be allowed to let that go. Otherwise, Mario never say that it was an ally, and will never say it any way, because of the low rating games. Is not because I don't support the LGBTQ+ community, is because logically, an homophobic insult is like being racist with someone, and allowing a family-friendly character saying that is just weird and a little shocking

(That Smart‐Ass Whom Nobody Asked "A Gaught Dayum, Gull‐Darn, Gosh‐Dang Thang" sry I am not this guy) Well, technically, you guys know that RNG is 100% dependent upon Hexadecimal set values and their specific, key‐logged values which produce the numerator/denominator ratios of variability, which is based mostly on interactive, and often even unacknowledged, yet still tracked, and stored basically as telemetric data, and recorded IRL as input/output log reference statistics. So, technically, i hate to be this guy but, You COULD actually affect the RNG ratios for wild encounter/shiny or vary the probability of encountering a certain pokémon. Even up to the point of glitching a particular pokémon into a generation/region/place that it, nor any pokémon, are supposed to be encountered. So this means you could discover a way to tap/hold the buttons during a catch, which could allow for a more solid catch/miss percentage ratio. Like how you can just "Reload Save State", with an Emulator, you could just repeat the random encounter until the pokémon ends up Shiny, or the one you want, or like i said you can glitch, whichnthat itself has certain RNG effects, but i digress. I'm sorry to even do this...may God have mercy on my soul
I made this iceberg about a year and a half ago and I would like to personally apologize for the last 2 layers. layer 7 was the most obscure obviously fake stuff I could find and layer 8 was all made up besides the hq one. This shows the power of secrets in games. Putting something in the game that only 10% of players discover is something that is VERY powerful. Modern games should do it more.
I'd say secrets are hidden in most games just for fun, but there's no need to discuss them on the playground thanks to the internet. You just google "secrets in [game]" and find them.
Due to the internet being so common, those things no longer hold the same value they did to kids in the 90's. It was a different time. Kids have Google on their phones nowadays

Not a correction, but an addition and fun fact The fact that the original Legend of Zelda's dungeon maps line up so perfectly is actually by design - it's how they were able to most efficiently fit the data on the cartridge. What's neat is the programmer realized he had made an error in determining how much data they had to work with and had only used half of the available space for the 9 dungeons, so they made some more and that's how the second quest came to be.

As a kid, I swore Mario said “so long, big bouncy”. Not sure why. Also as a kid in the early 2000s, i remember reading a rumor of the “light temple” in OoT. All I remember was that Sheik would teach a special song (that was recorded so you had to write it down), play it at a specific location then you’d be at the light temple
First time I heard it was on the VHS promo video released in North America. "So long-GAY bowsey!" It's a combination of an exagerrated Italian accent and limited audio clarity (Not just bitrate, but the music, SFX, and echo make it pretty indecipherable. That being said, Nintendo's attempt to censor it has some hilarious implications)

... also, the "JUSTIN BAILEY" password *is* coincidental. The one that _isn't_ is "NAR PASSWORD" or "NARPAS SWORD". If you feed it into a hex editor, it doesn't pass the check authentic passwords need to pass for the game to accept it... yet it stil works.
@@DefendYoungstown came here looking for this - JUSTIN BAILEY can be authentically generated by the password generator, so the coincidence answer really is that. I suppose it's PLAUSIBLE that the whole generation algorithm could have been designed around authentically creating JUSTIN BAILEY - but then, why would they then hard code in NARPAS SWORD after all that?
@@Sarcose NARPASSWORD is likely a debug password for QA testing, hence it being hardcoded. The explanation I've seen of the password is it might stand for North American Release Password since the Japanese release could save to the disc, but that's just speculation.

I should mention about the bye-bye line from super Mario 64, that’s actually from the Shindou rumble Pack edition, Which changed a few of Mario’s physics, had some lines that were not in the original Like the bye-bye line I mentioned before, which is because Bowser is named Koopa in Japan, also they remove the backwards long jump, that version on the switch was a Japan only N64 for many years In America, until 3D All-Stars happened Here is a video from Nintendrew that explains it better than I can: th-cam.com/video/ZJg95vZlTOY/w-d-xo.html

Fun fact about the Luigi pokemon, it's actually impossible to catch a Lickitung in red and blue, as it's only available through an in-game trade, so you wouldn't be able to catch one in an ultraball (and even if you could, gen 1 and 2 don't even keep track of what ball was used to catch a pokemon)
Fun fact: Despite Stop ‘N’ Swop being scrapped for the N64, a use for it was found by the Paper Mario speedrunning community. By using a series of glitches in Ocarina of Time, it’s possible to store certain data in the expansion pack. This data is not cleared when starting up Paper Mario, so a series of glitches there allows you to execute the stored data, warping you to the end of the game. The whole speedrun takes less than half an hour.

Just a note on the Justin Bailey thing, there are very few passwords in Metroid that are coded in, and everything else is fairly random, generated based on game state. For example, NARPOSWORDO is one that's purposely coded in. Justin Bailey, however, is purely random and is a coincidence
Something I did back as a kid was constantly look up ways to do glitches or what have you in Ocarina of Time. One of the ones I found at one point was a way to trick the game into letting you use farores wind anywhere. So, one of the things I did with this newfound power was to set up the warp point to the entrance to the kokiri forest and race the running man, using my powers of exploit to warp to the finish line. He still beat me. So at that point I realized, for sure, that beating him was 100% impossible.
1:24:00 there's a pretty substantial length of time between when a game is finished and when it's actually released, during which time it has to be rated, QA tested, and have physical copies manufactured. The revisions for Ocarina of Time were developed during that window, which is why they weren't released right away; they had to go through the same process as well. This is also the reason why modern games often have day 1 patches.
Well, unless you're a modern AAA game dev/publisher, in which case there's a substantial time between when the game is released and when it's finished...
@@theapexsurvivor9538 day one patches are a good thing in theory, but good lord devs need to stop using them as an excuse to release an unfinished product
Couple of notes 1. Stop n Swop was cut from the Banjo games, but interestingly it is used in a Paper Mario speedrun, where runners use arbitrary code execution in Ocarina of Time to save data which Paper Mario uses as a credits warp 2. The "so long, gay bowser" line was likely cut because in Japan, Bowser is called "King Koopa." The line was initially cut in the Shindou rerelease of the game in Japan
If I miss one thing about gaming back then was that there wasnt nearly as much sure sources of video game facts as today online and believing things like the ones he mentions in the videos and that also encourages videogame developers to place even more secret easter eggs and things that would create rumors and stories between gamers

The consequences for spoiling things is that you enjoy more of the game's content. On Tara A Devlin's video-I watch her religiously. She specializes in popular japanese creepy pastas from the 2000's and translates them into English. So basically internet culture from a decade or more ago written in anonymous forums. Shes the only one doing it, so there isnt much crossover into English which is what makes her channel so special. It's very, very niche-stuff you will NEVER know unless you speak japaense fluently AND know where to look. Basically, EVERYTHING on that channel is talking about things from the perspective of a Japanese person in Japan, speaking Japanese. She has such great insight into their internet culture that you wont find anywhere else. It isnt surprising at all that you couldnt find anything about it. Tara is most likely the first person to translate it into English. If you were searching in Japanese, you would have found much more results.
I couldn't download this fast enough... I actually still have all your other icebergs downloaded on my phone. It's very soothing to listen to while working. I don't have a lot of time for the video games I love so this is the best way to absorb them while doing adult stuff. I've listened to the super Mario 64 iceberg six times just because the way it's made keeps my brain in work mode and also in game mode it's a nice homeostasis. 😌
Arbitrary Code Execution ("ACE") is basically a way to make the game or program execute code it wasn't supposed to execute. This is often relevant to viruses and hacking, but can also be applied to games. For example Super Mario World can be beaten in less than 1 minute, because you can make the game execute code which immediately jumps you to the credits scene.
Also, Mario's "Buh-bye!" was actually introduced in Super Mario 64's Japan-only Rumble Pak compatible version, which the 3D All-Stars version is built off. So it was just changed because Bowser's name in Japan is just "Koopa," not because of fears of homophobia.
This video was supposed to only be an hour and a half long or so, and was made to give me a break from another project that I was working on that was taking an incredibly long time to complete. I have no idea how it ended up being 3 hours, but I put my all into this one, and feel it's my best yet, in regards to quality and research. also, putting a unique song for every single point was a bit tedious, but in the end, I'm glad I did it. It just really completes the package of this whole video, and allows for that much more Nintendo goodness throughout the 3 hours!
The sheer amount of Touhou songs in here is amazing, so many good tracks that I didn't remember that I liked, not only you created a well-documented video but also gave it some killer soundtrack to go with it, kudos to you my man. Also, the "Subliminal message" in Super Mario All Stars are the plants on the walls, allegedly spelling "Sex" (original, I know), and also wasn't "Yeeh Yeeh Beebis I" confirmed to be a mistranslation of another title? I think that last one came out quite recently.
You know, what interests me the most in this ice berg is the Zelda 3 story, no one has any idea if it is actually a beta cartridge, or just a hoax, it could very well be real, and whoever owns it now might have their hands on the only Zelda 3 NES version to ever reach the public, or that even exists at this point, which means that if someone ever comes forward with it, it's going to shake the entire retro community.
It's been debunked for years keep and mind by 1990 Nintendo was primarily focusing on their new console the Super Famicom, in fact Super Mario World started development for the Super Famicom in 1988 right after Super Mario Bros. 3 released in Japan Link to the Past started development in 1989 and was always intended to be a Super Famicom game and not once was it ever a Famicom nor NES game the Famicom by the end of 1990 was more or less a dead platform so why would Nintendo focus on making a sequel for a dead console? while the NES was still doing well around the same time, Nintendo didn't really focus too hard on their 8-bit system compared to their new 16-bit one especially since it wouldn't be long until Nintendo released the Super Nintendo internationally
This iceberg was such a good watch, it would be awesome if you did more of these types of company-wide icebergs for Sega or Namco. There's so many secrets for both of those companies that don't get talked about very often.
For the so long gay bowser, i think mario's saying "So long-a Bowser" because Mario adds "a" to some words like "Lets A-go" or "Come back here, you big-a Monkey!"
@@vappyenjoyer24 i thought that aswell but when you hear the uncompressed soundline few times, you just hear no King at all and it never perfectly fits when i heard the voiceline in the pass years. It's "so long-A Bowser".
Actually what disproves the triforce, being obtainable in OOT, is the fact that when Link, pulls the master sword, Ganondorf, gets into the sacred realm to obtain it himself so the triforce is located in the sacred realm, and when he went to pick it up it was split into three pieces, and the reason he needs to bring Zelda, Link, and him together to obtain the complete triforce to rule, so it’s spilt up after the childhood timeline before the sword is pulled the first time.
One interesting bit about the "L is Real 2401" thing is that the texture is also used in Ocarina of Time which makes the text unrelated to anything SM64 only.. Further, it is likely that the text is in Japanese, not English. This is a point that I've only ever seen brought up one single time in one video by someone. Why do so many people think it would be in English?
That is a good point, but the Japanese do use English fairly often, even in games unreleased in the west, but thats usually only for things like "start" or "go" or other simple words. You are right though. This is a sign, so odds are it'd be in Japanese
I personally love how many of the rumors of the old Pokémon games were adapted on their remakes in the gba. As a child with unrestricted access to the internet I used to believe that Bill’s secret garden was an actual thing. Great iceberg video 👏
Green-hair Samus is just what she looks like with the Varia Suit upgrade, but without the suit graphics. You can start the game as the brown haired one and it will turn green after getting the Varia Suit, so there is loads of codes that can produce a green-haired Samus. Also on the subject of the NES Metroid, kind of surprised you didn't include the secret worlds/hidden zones. Though it seems like whoever made this list grew up in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s, where as the secret worlds was more of a late 80s early 90s rumor (though I remember a site dedicated to them in the early 2000s and what they were was still not completely known). Also the "Pegasus Boots" were the name of the boots that let you run super-fast in the ALttP (SNES), so it would be logical to claim those were hidden in OOT if you were going to lie that there were boots that let you run fast.
as someone who grew up in the late 2000s and early 2010s all the rumors were an absolute trip down memory lane. thanks for making this video and keep up the great work! ive been watching since the mario 64 video and intend to keep watching. have a good day! :D
1:59:53 The music is from Touhou Lotus Land Story - Stage 3 theme Bad Apple!! Additionally, 2:46:41 is Reimu's Theme - Maiden's Cappricio - Dream Battle from Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night!! 2:51:28 is Tewi's Theme - White Flag of USA Shrine from Touhou 9 - Phantasmagoria of Flower View
I am willing to bet what happened when they were recording for super Mario 64, Charles Martinet was in the sound stage saying the line over and over, with emphasis on different parts. You hear this often in lines being done. He was likely saying “So long’a Bowser,” but due to trying to get those lines done, and being a professional, he was repeatedly saying it in different ways so the editors had options to work with. Due to Japan being… well, Japan, they chose that one without realizing that the little pause ended up sounding like another word in English. There was probably no ill intent at any point. It seems all silly now that I put this down on writing
@@mayzdev this is a glitch. Apperently i trolled a leftist and now comments from other videos get put in other places. It’s really annoying. You literally can’t have your own opinions
@@_TedKaczynski unabomber! Fancy meeting you here. Can't say I expected to see you on TH-cam, never mind in the comments section of a video about the inner workings of video game passwords and electronic encoding systems. 🤣
love the video! overall really well researched, i only have one minor correction that honestly doesn't matter that much, but here it is: ben drowned has always been an ARG and never really a creepypasta in my opinion even though it was easily lumped in with the likes of sonic.exe and lavender town syndrome. it's not a new thing for it to be considered as one even though ARGs are CONSIDERABLY more popular to make than they were 10+ years ago. what separates a spooky ARG from a creepypasta is that a creepypasta is normal one or multiple installments of a story being told in a singular format (however at most i've seen creepypastas be text AND video which is still only two formats), but an ARG almost always requires people to interact with it-- piecing the clues together, people working together to scour through websites or hidden messages in code, and in ben drowned's case, interacting with posts/websites made by characters in the story of the ARG to make the story progress. even though the story of ben drowned is very close to my heart and i know a decent amount about it, even i didn't know it was an ARG for years! it's really easy to consume the story without knowing that people had to make it progress, especially with the ARG being over now. it also had a sort of reboot/continuation 2 years ago which i don't know too much about bc it scared the crap out of me too much to watch though lol, so it's guaranteed there's even stuff that i wouldn't know about ben drowned let alone the average person
did Ben Drowned really have a lot of viewer interaction with it? the only thing I remember from being present at the time of the development was going on cleverbot and asking it about ben, and it would acknowledge what you were talking about and reply things in regards to Ben Drowned, which I always thought was really cool, but outside that, I'm not sure if the ARG aspects took off much. I wasn't involved with Ben Drowned during the whole moon children cult thing, so, is that when it started to be more "ARG"? thanks for the comment, I'd really like to learn more!
@@NEScRETRO first of all thank you so much for the reply! I really appreciate it and here's the best answer I can give you: for sure the ARG really kicked off during the whole moon children cult thing, which is one of the parts of ben drowned story I didn't know until I took a deep dive into it when Night Mind made a video about it back in 2016, and that Night Mind video (titled Ben Drowned: The Full Story & ARG) could definitely explain all of this way better than I could lol so I'd highly recommend checking it out. I should say it can get a bit complicated and convoluted, so if you wanna dive into learning more about it yourself, don't expect it to be concise and easy to follow; in fact this lack of conciseness is a reason why I don't know every nook and cranny of the story and ARG of ben drowned, let alone the continuation of it in 2020. I'd also like to say again, most people who watched the videos on Jadusable's channel or read the 4chan posts (i.e, consumed the story) throughout when it got really popular had no idea it was into ARG territory, so your understanding of the story wasn't wrong by any means and I wanna make sure I'm not coming off as an "umm actually" type of commenter lol
I absolutely love Night Mind's content! I'll definitely be sure to check that out! I think ARG's kind of thrive on being vague, so, I completely expect it to not be thoroughly laid out for easy digestion. kind of like Catastrophe Crow and other ARG's like that. they may be over, but there are always going to be unanswered questions, that's kind of just the nature of ARG's in general. the more mystery, the better.
The watchers in the Mario game are from Japanese mythology known as the Umibōzu. Basically giant black humanoid sea creatures who stood from the ocean with part of their body (usually head or torso) visible. In the rare times they traveled to land of course they stood over mountains.
Jeez this channel is insanely underrated, all of your videos are really high quality, thoroughly researched, and informative. I put all of your videos into my killing time playlist and have watched the sm64 iceberg at least 4 times 😂. Thanks for what you do, it’s awesome
In relation to how people watch your videos, recently I've gotten a job where I'm allowed to listen to music while I work, so your videos and other long form content has helped me get through 10 hour long shifts.
I was always under the impression Chris Houlihan was a Nintendo Power contest winner. My mind was blown to find out this person has never been confirmed to exist. I thought I remembered a pic of him in NP but honestly, the mind plays tricks when trying to remember something old. Hopefully this doesn't end up on some Mandela Effect video.
I'm pretty sure I can explain why Bill has that """secret garden""" and not just a continuation of the cliff behind his house: Space limitations. IIRC, houses and cliffs were on the same texture layer, and the game had to add unique textures for them if they overlapped. Bill's house is the only one of its type that could overlap with cliffs the way it would have, so it'd need new textures for each of its roof sections, which would have taken up space on a game notorious for how many optimisation tricks were used to make it fit. So most likely the designers just decided to make Bill's house use the path tileset that already existed for that roof style and make an indent in the cliff, saving a probably a decent chunk of memory (2-3 less textures, probably a full byte of texture IDs that would have gone unused, a bunch of extra calls, etc.)
On the justin bailey thing, the reason for the palette swap is just because of the varia power up. If you get the varia as brown haired samus, it turns green like the justin bailey code
If the "subliminal message" in the Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros 1 shown at 2:43:15 reminds you of something, it may be because it's basically the same thing as the "subliminal message" in the original Lion King where people looked at a bunch of fireflies(?) and thought they spelled out the word "sex." I think that's also what the old TH-cam video shown in this video is trying to hint at, since you tilt your head a bit and "read" the moss textures diagonally, you can _kinda_ see it thanks to the blurry resolution of the upload, though needless to say, I can see why this one didn't get picked up by any gaming news outlets or other official sources, lol.
I believe the reason the shadow for luigi is messed up (making him look like he is floating) is because the light in the scene is below the floor. The reason why there would be no shadow for the floor is because the 3D model for the room has no backface. (backface culling: When a computer does not render both sides of a polygon to render twice as fast)
The trick was blacking out on the SS Anne during a battle. This caused you to go directly to the Pokémon center and bypass the flag that sets when you exit the SS Anne with cut. You could then head back with surf and strength later…and find you can’t move the truck. Once you exit the area the normal way, the SS Anne leaves.
I did listen, all the way through, while playing BOTW on Nintendo switch. I really enjoyed this iceberg vid, and I appreciate every ounce of effort that went into it. You did a fantastic job.
This brought back memories from my childhood playing Metroid on NES with my little brother. We were playing around with the password screen and entering random letters and numbers and sometimes we'd randomly have success and be started on a random part of the game or with power ups. We also borrowed a GameShark from a friend for N64 and put in random characters all night and ended up somehow hard coding Invincibility and Big Head mode onto Goldeneye, I don't know how this is possible but they were on the cartridge from then on.
I think Goldeneye values might be able to be hardcoded if they were mistakenly designated to another variable to control them instead of just reading the menu option to control them. Either that, or you somehow managed to disable a check normally present within saving that is supposed to prevent things like that from occuring. Weird as hell, really. Reminds me of how my pokemon White II save was softlocked after using noclip cheats, because I beat the indigo plateau without unfreezing that one city first or hopping on the plasma frigate, so that area of the game was always not-complete and it fucked with post-game stuff.
Personally, I believe the text under the "Eternal Star" says "For Harry's *planet* "and the last thing is a little planet drawing, which could be a sort of thing a developer put in there for their daughter etc. to remember them.
43:34 From what I've been told, the Justin bailey password is a play on words, a bailey is slang for a bikini or bathing suit, so the play in words is just in bailey, as in Samus is just in a bailey suit.
I never understood why they left the Ice Key where it could be seen past the clear ice. I really thought that small hole under the water would lead to it. Glad to understand that it was just cut content of the Stop and Swap.
This was so good and well explained! Thanks so much for making the video! I’m also kinda surprised the “Ashley from Warioware is evil” theory/rumor wasn’t on here lol. Used to creep me out as a kid lol!
I remember the luigi one that I used was jumping on all the courtyard trees without touching the ground, then I tried the collect every coin possible but got too distracted and thought it was hard, and I remember a very old jumpscare on youtube where it ends with "punch this sign and..!!!!" with a very loud screamer. Vividly remember that because I was too scared to go back upstairs for a little while lmao, Great video as always
32:41 To this day, I still actively just spam A when I have to capture a pokemon. It just seems right. I also remember the rumor that in pokemon black/white if you said "gotcha" or something similar into the mic right as the pokeball closed, it would greatly increase your odds.

Repent and follow Jesus! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20 Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state. “We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.) Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.) Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894) The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. Daniel 7:25 says “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” The Popes of Rome spoke against Elohim and proclaimed to be God. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed. The Pope’s title is Vicar of Christ, which in Latin is ‘Vicarius Filii Dei’, and equates numerically to the number 666
@Savannah I have no idea what you just said. But why do you notice the speck in your brothers eye when you yourself have plank? I'm saved by faith and grace and some of my brothers and sisters are sleeping for my own sake. So as to not worry about them. Fear God and not man. Thank you.
I judge for myself what is right and wrong. Like Jesus told me too. I suppose I'll put that fruit to good use, eh? Scary huh? It's supposed to be, but I'm not a lawless being. A brat maybe, but lawless? No. Jesus keeps me very subdued. The bible told me that everyone is under the antichrists influence and there's an illusion happening. So that's nice. :) So what's the point in worrying about it. When the time comes the time comes and I'm ready whenever the good lord is willing. But THEN you find out that it's possible you MIGHT be someone who never tastes death. And those with understanding are filled with fear. Then things get weird. More on that later. I have lots of work and processing to do. Jacob. :P

Apologies if it comes up in a later layer, but I want to share some more Animal Crossing NES trivia. In addition to the obtainable NES items that have games there is also an NES item that doesn't have a game. It was long thought to be a decorative item, but it was recently discovered that it can actually load games from a Gamecube memory card. This means at some point Nintendo at least considered distributing NES games via Animal Crossing events.
I've heard about this, but I don't mention it in the video! This is one of those facts I recall hearing about a while back that I've totally forgotten about, and that was probably the case when I was writing the point about the animal crossing nes games. Definitely would have been worth mentioning too!
They probably scrapped it because of the Classic NES Series re-releases coming out around the same time. Either that, or it was due to time/memory constraints.
i think there's a chance mario 65 might have been in reference to a rather famous vinesauce bit. "I had a classmate that actually legitimately expected Mario 65 to come out. He ate glue.” the video was a lot of people's first introduction to vinesauce, and that bit is kinda iconic lol. i guess it could be in reference to a lot of things, since a lot of things have been called super mario 65. the fangame thing is probably just as likely.
Id say the major difference between args and creepy pastas is user interaction. Args, for best effect, make use of videos or websites or occassionally real life locations to help sell its storytelling. A great example of an arg is "This House Has People In It." Which while on the surface is just sort of a strange video. But has actual websites that you can visist and interact with to continue learning more and "unlocking" the story further.
Not sure if anyone mentioned already but, another time we see what’s behind shy guys mask is in Luigi’s Mansion GCN, where you vacuum off their masks and you can see a pair of eyes :) apologies if anyone has already mentioned this, I didn’t wanna read 600 comments 😂 great video, really well made, good job!

I remember my friend had an "uncle" that played as shadow link, master hand, and created a black hole in smash bros melee. My friend group and I spent hours across several days trying to recreate it following the bad description the friend described to make it happen. We decided as a group our friend was a liar, like the mew under the truck. I was so surprised as an adult when i learned you can glitch the game to do all 3, lol, i guess he did have an uncle that showed him.
@@purploid you know brawl only released in 2008 right? people were playing melee right up until then, as well as afterwards. TH-cam absolutely existed by then, but even then, many many forums existed way before youtube that researched, discussed and categorised glitches in games

Thanks NEScRetro, I started this video May 12 (according to my history), and just finished watching the whole thing today. While I don't watch your videos while I work, I do watch them on my breaks. I learned a lot from the video and remembered a lot too from long ago. Damn my childhood was crazy lol Good to see people like you are passionate enough to deep dive and discuss this type of stuff. I get so busy from work lately, your videos are a great escape since they are so long. It's like being in a museum and watching you go through the exhibits as my tour guide. Thanks for the video bro. Will be waiting for the next one.
My new favorite TH-cam video. 3 hours of nonstop in depth mysteries of Nintendo games. That sentence right there sounds too good to be true for me. Thank you so much for this NEScRETRO!
Mad respect for doing further research to figure out the real meaning of the counter-clockwise version of the symbol instead of just following what some websites say.
I remember spending a lot of time looking for the Triforce in Ocarina of Time after the Master Quest debug rom leaked. Although I had accepted that there was no normal means of accessing it, I remember holding on to hope that it might exist in the beta content somewhere. I know the sword beams actually did exist in the game at some point.
15:45 We kinda have speculation on what it is. This area is somewhat based on an area in japan called Jigokidani meaning Hell Valley which is a national park in the mountain with geothermic hot springs. The little figures are speculated to be 2 things. Japanese Macaques as the area is also know for the large populations of monkeys. or there tree spirits named kodama.
I'm going crazy. When I was a child, my uncle would play "Super Mario Bros 3." And I could swear to fking god that he unlocked some hidden world infront of me. I even have the background music of the overworld in mind. It was sort of menacing and gave a feel of "this world is going to be tough". The world was somehow accessed by the entering the world selection after using the fluet. I was hoping I could find anything about this in this video, but nope. Was I really hallucinating this??
You can get two flutes early in the game. If you use the first flute straight away you can pick from worlds 1, 2, or 3. But if at this moment you use a second flute, you are whisked away to world 8
I think that was just world 8... If you post like a sketch or mockup of what it looked like, that would be a massive help, as if it looks nothing like world 8 then we know there's definitely some spoopy stuff goin' on.
Regarding arbitrary code execution (ACE), you didn't exactly say anything wrong, but most of the examples you listed don't use ACE. For example opening a door and it taking you to the wrong room (a wrong warp) is almost never done with ACE. ACE is more like, injecting code into the game, or rewriting parts of the games code. You can in theory completely rewrite the game, TASBot from AGDQ/SGDQ is a good example.

I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying them the exact way I hoped when I first started making videos! I, too, follow certain youtubers and watch their videos repeatedly, and it was a big reason why I started doing videos in the first place. I do it while cleaning, sleeping, driving, all the time! I have a new iceberg coming out soon that's very similar to this one and will be over 6 hours long. Possibly 7 hours long, but definitely over 6. I hope you enjoy it when it drops, and thanks again!
The Swastika is one of the most ancient symbols with origin in the indo-european prehistoric people. The symbol originally only symbolizes the sun and the sun rays, and had a symbolism to the cult of the sun gods. The position, number of rays, tilting degree has nothing to do with the meaning at this point of history, as it is found in archeology in many positions, with three to twelve rays. It is present in most indo-european religions like greek/roman, german, nordic, slavic and anglo-saxon pagan religions. This indo-european ancient society expanded from western europe to north of india, writed the three original vedas and from this point all of the hinduism originated. This is why there is a swastika in hinduism. In case you are wondering, buddhism also originated from the western indo-european ancient society, it was a full pagan polytheistic religion, became a eastern polytheistic religion and them only in recent times became kind of a "way to live philosophy" in the west, but the true buddhism is a mystic religion.
The orientation of the swastika actually does have meaning in Buddhism and to the Hopi tribe in America, even though it has no bearing anywhere else. Hitler's use of the swastika for the Nazi party was because a lot of his ideology was influenced by mistranslated and misinterpreted Hindu texts, as the early 1900s were the first time many of them were widely available in European languages, albeit oftentimes with rather shoddy translations.
You’re the best when it comes to Icebergs and I cannot wait to see this channel grow and make more interesting content. Would be cool to see a documentary style video in regards video game mysteries or dark things in film!
There’s one that is exclusive to me only I believe. When Luigi’s mansion first came out 2 of my school friends talked about finding Mario’s red jumper as one of his items you can find. It was weird to me how one brought it up and the other was like “yeah I found that too”. Obviously it doesn’t exist but I remember hearing about it from them and trying to find it. I wish I could remember where they said it was.
So I recently got around to finishing this video, & I have to say this is easily one of my favorite iceberg videos, heck this is one of my favorite videos in general. Each topic is talked about in depth & with personality, so it dosen't feel like some lifeless voice is just telling me about the entries on the iceberg. Also I like how it's quite long, as I personally like longer videos. The iceberg has a nice mix of horror, hoaxes & reality. Amazing video all around, keep up the good work.
the 3rd controller port isn't actually required to get master hand to appear with the glitch it's just that master hand is programmed to look for inputs from player 3 [since adventure mode or whatever it was can be done with two players, master hand is set as player 3 and crazy hand player 4]
I really like your videos, back stories about what things meant and how they applied to you as a kid, and the fact that you are humble. You are obviously smart too. Too many youtubers are the opposite unfortunately. Thanks for your dedication as well.
I randomly found the Chris Houlihan room as a 10 year old kid. No one believed me cause I couldn’t do it again, and internet wasn’t in most people’s houses yet 😅 i did it at the hole east of the graveyard and sanctuary. Tried so many times to make it happen again.
Just want to say, you are doing some amazing work and deserve more likes. I have never seen an iceberg that has managed to keep me so entertained for so long! I knew most of the stuff on here and still I wasn't bored. Excellent work! 2:13:38 Also I holy crap! I watched a video just like this! It was slightly different though. There was some way to get infinite lives in the level and the message block was different. I'm pretty sure it's not the original since I was born in 2006, but if anyone has that version of the video somewhere please let me know. I'm super curious.
Great video, man! I especially dug your use of Touhou music for some of the iceberg points, even more so that a good chunk of them were from the PC-98 games. Keep up the good work!
I'm quite a touhou fan! Not too deep into it as most people, but I love the characters, music, and games a lot. The pc98 games were the first I played, specifically Lotus Land Story, so that game and it's music holds a special place in my gaming heart!

Everyone makes mistakes. The Shindou version is not all that well known either. I'm looking forward to your next video. They're always a joy to watch!
@@NEScRETRO to be honest, you could just reupload a corrected version of this. It hasn’t been up for very long anyway. Either way, don’t sweat it!
So long gay bowser!
Nah, he says Bye, Bye
Anyway, why Nintendo would allow Mario degrading Bowser with such homophobic quotes? Even if Bowser is gay or bi, Nintendo will never be allowed to let that go. Otherwise, Mario never say that it was an ally, and will never say it any way, because of the low rating games. Is not because I don't support the LGBTQ+ community, is because logically, an homophobic insult is like being racist with someone, and allowing a family-friendly character saying that is just weird and a little shocking

Well, technically, you guys know that RNG is 100% dependent upon Hexadecimal set values and their specific, key‐logged values which produce the numerator/denominator ratios of variability, which is based mostly on interactive, and often even unacknowledged, yet still tracked, and stored basically as telemetric data, and recorded IRL as input/output log reference statistics.

I'd say secrets are hidden in most games just for fun, but there's no need to discuss them on the playground thanks to the internet. You just google "secrets in [game]" and find them.
If anything isn't found normally, someone eventually will romdump it and skim through if their care enough.

Not a correction, but an addition and fun fact
The fact that the original Legend of Zelda's dungeon maps line up so perfectly is actually by design - it's how they were able to most efficiently fit the data on the cartridge. What's neat is the programmer realized he had made an error in determining how much data they had to work with and had only used half of the available space for the 9 dungeons, so they made some more and that's how the second quest came to be.
Ok

... also, the "JUSTIN BAILEY" password *is* coincidental.

You ever find the videos about the alternate gauntlet colors?
Couple of notes
1. Stop n Swop was cut from the Banjo games, but interestingly it is used in a Paper Mario speedrun, where runners use arbitrary code execution in Ocarina of Time to save data which Paper Mario uses as a credits warp
Kingdom of Loathing aged like wine in this way. You are rewarded for keeping the wiki open because the references and mechanics have so many cryptic layers. The consequences for spoiling things is that you enjoy more of the game's content.
Mad props to you for putting so much work into what is now your longest video!

It's been debunked for years
keep and mind by 1990 Nintendo was primarily focusing on their new console the Super Famicom, in fact Super Mario World started development for the Super Famicom in 1988 right after Super Mario Bros. 3 released in Japan
Link to the Past started development in 1989 and was always intended to be a Super Famicom game and not once was it ever a Famicom nor NES game
the Famicom by the end of 1990 was more or less a dead platform so why would Nintendo focus on making a sequel for a dead console?
while the NES was still doing well around the same time, Nintendo didn't really focus too hard on their 8-bit system compared to their new 16-bit one especially since it wouldn't be long until Nintendo released the Super Nintendo internationally
This iceberg was such a good watch, it would be awesome if you did more of these types of company-wide icebergs for Sega or Namco. There's so many secrets for both of those companies that don't get talked about very often.
I could get into that for sure!
For the so long gay bowser, i think mario's saying "So long-a Bowser" because Mario adds "a" to some words like "Lets A-go" or "Come back here, you big-a Monkey!"

I hate how you use commas
Lol whats up with the unnecessary commas here? Weird read.
Actually what disproves the triforce being obtainable in oot is data mining
One interesting bit about the "L is Real 2401" thing is that the texture is also used in Ocarina of Time which makes the text unrelated to anything SM64 only.. Further, it is likely that the text is in Japanese, not English. This is a point that I've only ever seen brought up one single time in one video by someone. Why do so many people think it would be in English?
That is a good point, but the Japanese do use English fairly often, even in games unreleased in the west, but thats usually only for things like "start" or "go" or other simple words. You are right though. This is a sign, so odds are it'd be in Japanese
@@NEScRETRO interesting...
Also odd that he didn't mention Metroid's *actual* hidden cheat password, "NARpassword".
as someone who grew up in the late 2000s and early 2010s all the rumors were an absolute trip down memory lane.

Ben drowned is the best story I’ve ever experienced in my life
Why is he smiling? the father…
To me the "So long(ue) Bowser" line was caused because Mario was given a strong accent, not any kind of audio distortion.
The watchers in the Mario game are from Japanese mythology known as the Umibōzu. Basically giant black humanoid sea creatures who stood from the ocean with part of their body (usually head or torso) visible. In the rare times they traveled to land of course they stood over mountains.

Bowser being gay makes it seem more okay now that Peach and him are always just hanging out together alone in his castle.

Dude! No way, 10 million views? I remember your Smash Bros iceberg. Deserved!
If the "subliminal message" in the Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros 1 shown at 2:43:15 reminds you of something, it may be because it's basically the same thing as the "subliminal message" in the original Lion King where people looked at a bunch of fireflies(?) and thought they spelled out the word "sex."
I think that's also what the old TH-cam video shown in this video is trying to hint at, since you tilt your head a bit and "read" the moss textures diagonally, you can _kinda_ see it thanks to the blurry resolution of the upload, though needless to say, I can see why this one didn't get picked up by any gaming news outlets or other official sources, lol.
YES

This is creepy, I'm also listening to this while playing botw
The alternate title would be “Things my cousin had and I never did”
Very true!
This is such a trip down nostalgia lane! I'm 2 hours in and still being reminded of some rumors I remember hearing as a kid.
Personally, I believe the text under the "Eternal Star" says "For Harry's *planet* "and the last thing is a little planet drawing, which could be a sort of thing a developer put in there for their daughter etc. to remember them.
Could also just be "For Luigi's __"
You're both stupid
43:34 From what I've been told, the Justin bailey password is a play on words, a bailey is slang for a bikini or bathing suit, so the play in words is just in bailey, as in Samus is just in a bailey suit.
I never understood why they left the Ice Key where it could be seen past the clear ice. I really thought that small hole under the water would lead to it. Glad to understand that it was just cut content of the Stop and Swap.
Probably to make the area feel less barren
I love these rumors that jumped into existence because of the community instead of the developers, they are also so nostalgic.

- Revelation 3:20
Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet
Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power.
For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.)
Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.)
Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894)
The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD.

I love watching these videos and being like “yeah I know that” at least once a layer. This is amazing, please make more!
i think there's a chance mario 65 might have been in reference to a rather famous vinesauce bit.
"I had a classmate that actually legitimately expected Mario 65 to come out. He ate glue.”
the video was a lot of people's first introduction to vinesauce, and that bit is kinda iconic lol. i guess it could be in reference to a lot of things, since a lot of things have been called super mario 65. the fangame thing is probably just as likely.

I remember spending a lot of time looking for the Triforce in Ocarina of Time after the Master Quest debug rom leaked. 15:45 We kinda have speculation on what it is. This area is somewhat based on an area in japan called Jigokidani meaning Hell Valley which is a national park in the mountain with geothermic hot springs.
The little figures are speculated to be 2 things.

Maybe he traveled to world 8
Are you able to ask your uncle about it?
You can get two flutes early in the game. If you use the first flute straight away you can pick from worlds 1, 2, or 3. But if at this moment you use a second flute, you are whisked away to world 8
Also the battleship music in 3 is very dramatic and distinctive
I think that was just world 8... If you post like a sketch or mockup of what it looked like, that would be a massive help, as if it looks nothing like world 8 then we know there's definitely some spoopy stuff goin' on.
Regarding arbitrary code execution (ACE), you didn't exactly say anything wrong, but most of the examples you listed don't use ACE. For example opening a door and it taking you to the wrong room (a wrong warp) is almost never done with ACE. ACE is more like, injecting code into the game, or rewriting parts of the games code. You can in theory completely rewrite the game, TASBot from AGDQ/SGDQ is a good example.
this iceberg video is incredibly well made! it was entertaining to listen to and watch, and it made drawing a lot more enjoyable. please do more of these in the future! :)
I just wanna thank you for your iceberg videos, I’ve listened to them so many times start to finish while working, and every now and then I’ll catch something I haven’t before. Makes the work day go by a whole lot and honestly, it gives me a reason to look forward to work. Keep doin what you’re doing, because it’s wonderful (:
I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying them the exact way I hoped when I first started making videos! I, too, follow certain youtubers and watch their videos repeatedly, and it was a big reason why I started doing videos in the first place. I do it while cleaning, sleeping, driving, all the time! I have a new iceberg coming out soon that's very similar to this one and will be over 6 hours long. Possibly 7 hours long, but definitely over 6. I hope you enjoy it when it drops, and thanks again!
Oh wow!!!! I can’t wait!!! I’ll be on the lookout for it! Hopefully my bell notifications work for it so I can check it out as soon as it drops (:
To quote the Chosen One:
This is where the fun begins!
Ye
You’re the best when it comes to Icebergs and I cannot wait to see this channel grow and make more interesting content. Would be cool to see a documentary style video in regards video game mysteries or dark things in film!
I'm currently finishing up the script to the next iceberg at the moment! Should be out in August!
@@NEScRETROWhats it about?
@evanb4466 I don't want to give it away, but it's video game related, and quite diverse, kind of like this one!
Amazing video all around, keep up the good work.
the 3rd controller port isn't actually required to get master hand to appear with the glitch
it's just that master hand is programmed to look for inputs from player 3 [since adventure mode or whatever it was can be done with two players, master hand is set as player 3 and crazy hand player 4]
I love when the illogical rumors takes it off the rails, your commentary is truly a treasure to us. xD
