@@leonro But you don’t gotta enjoy football to enjoy an Inazuma Eleven game! I think. Besides, it’s a Sports RPG! How many of those have you seen other than the Mario Sports ones?
There is no reason why he shouldn't know this, it's a pretty notable Wiiware release. It's not like he's allergic to researching RPGs or whatever, he just doesn't like playing them much. Scott just spends a lot of time on Wikis, listening to discussions and such. He doesn't even play thaaat much in general, I believe.
I actually understand and can read japanese so this is interesting for me to pause occasionally and see (and i have read this type of stuff before it's nothing groundbreaking trust) 6:55 is "what would you recommend [about this game to other people]" and the responses are stuff you'd expect like "oh yay i don't have to go to the gym" or "yeah this is good for my mom" 11:05 okay this is actually really cool. This seems to be a compilation of various japanese game shows (hence why it never released outside of japan because they're japanese gameshows) 11:38 that's momotarou no dentetsu (meaning momotarou being a name, no being the pocessive particle and dentetsu meaning railroad, essentially being "momotarou's railroad") and it plays similar to fortune street I believe. Switch version exists and it's one of the best selling third party switch games which is impressive given it never came out outside japan. 14:10 oh yeah it's [karaoke] popular in japan. Personal anecdote, but i when i went to sendai with my friend there were karaoke bars everywhere, same with tokyo, and i went in one it was really fun to sing jpop songs with my friend in japanese 18:32 this 珍スポーツ (rare sports) is a wacky sports party game. 23:01 it is in fact the original fire emblem. 27:45 this is for sending people stuff only on the internet without them having an internet connection.
Reminder to boot up your 3DS games bi-yearly! There are poorly-manufactured 3ds-cartridges out there as well. Such copies will stop functioning over time if you haven't played them in a long time. Basically, if they weren't loaded regularly and their data updates, it gains an error and those game can't be read correctly by your system anymore. Booting your games up once every half in a year should prevent them from breaking. My Fire Emblem Echoes copy died on me sadly. Many people also reported that they lost their copies of Persona Q and Pokemon Alpha Ruby/Omega Saphire because of this issue. This happens to PAL copies, especially.
0:49 "fall or late summer of 2011" *sees the kanji for summer on the magazine* : wow that's pretty a good guess. This seems like a great way to spend 1+ hour of my life. Let's go!
19:33 that cat game is my white whale for my Wii collection, when it released, it failed to sell even 300 copies in its first week, and the total amount of copies sold might actually be just 1000. Thing is impossible to find and goes for like 40000 yen when it shows up.
Funny thing about PES / Winning Eleven: back in the ps1/ps2 era, most people around the world (like in South America) got pirated versions of these games, so they all came from japan and we knew at as Winning Eleven. Just after the PS3 days, where non-pirated copies became more common, that people started calling it PES.
36:17 An official english port was actually planned for Tomodachi Collection but due to problems with the TTS software just not functioning at all in english due to the DS (From what I remember) "Although a Western localization was planned, it was not finalized due to the DS being unable to translate the voice synth into English." - Tomodachi Life Wiki
POKEPARK WAS ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE AND SPECIAL POKEMON GAMES TO EVER RELEASE, AND I WILL NOT HEAR OTHERWISE!!! It's not flawless or a "major revolution in gaming," but it provied an experience that has never been recreated or emulated. It innovated in so many different caregories in a series where the biggest innovations are mostly 1 new mechanic per game. There have been good spin-off titles, but this one is easily one of the best, and is not remebered as such. The Pokemon Rangers, Snap, and Mystery Dungeon series are far more frequently remembered as quality spin-off series, but I put Pokepark above all of them as far as new creative and entertaining iterations go. Nostalgia is definitely playing a factor in this for me, but no other game captured the imagination of its players in the way that Pokepark did. It was truly special, and deserved better than to be an afterthought in the series, as it seems it has sadly become.
16:59 erm actually we got puyopuyo in america in the form of the puyo puyo 39 side mode in hatsune miku: project mirai dx on the 3ds in september 2015.
1:43 I have one of those wiis! With the remote. My stepdad teaches in a secondary school and in like 2009 he bought his form room a Wii to play with and I got it fairly recently because the schedule changed so tutor was no longer an hour.
I've been to Japan recently and obviously have been to the Nintendo Stores as well as the Nintendo Museum, which was a cool experience. However, the one interesting thing is not just that they still have those catalogues in stores, but they also have English versions of them. It's not Nintendo of America catalogues, but the Japanese catalogues translated to English, including all the quirky photos, captions, Japanese game logos etc.
Watching Scott struggle with not recognizing certain Japan-only games meanwhile I'm like "that's clearly Momotaro Dentetsu!" btw how in the world did he not immediately spot Arino of GameCenter CX fame at 22:12? He's practically the face of retro games in Japan like how we see AVGN as the face of retro games.
@@BottomOfTheDumpsterFire fair but I feel at this point if you are in the know of retro game media than odds are you're gonna eventually find out about the show one way or the other
They did release them in NA, but they weren't sold stand alone. They were bundled with the console when you bought one in that color. Japan actually has 2 different blue nunchucks in slightly different colors. One was a japan club nintendo exclusive wii sports resort nunchuck that is very hard to find.
I cannot express enough, as someone who bought Okami on PS2 within a year of it's release, how profoundly angry it makes me to hear the phrase "it sits right at home on the Wii" when Clover did such a masterful job making a freeform drawing mechanic work on analog stick
Kind of funny to hear Scott talk about how uncommon Black Wiimotes without Motion Plus are considering I've only seen Black Wiimotes without motion plus.
The fact that those black Wii remotes without Wii motion plus built in blew my mind. That is literally almost all my family had growing up. We also had the black Wii motion plus adapters. Lol
Great video, I enjoyed listening to some wii stuff while at work. Also, I am one of those people who still does need to use the cleaning disc every few months lmao. Especially with dual layer discs(SSBB, Xenoblade, a couple others), dust can cause the laser in the disc drive to not work after a while
19:34 That cat game is Sukeban Shanchou Rena, probably more well known as the worst selling Wii game worldwide, which is rumored to have only sold less than a thousand copies
If you do more of these videos where you collect stuff in a different language, I suggest downloading the google translator app for your phone. Still a rough translation, but better than not being able to read the text at all.
4:20 i personally think they were gonna do character themed consoles, cause it kinda looks like yoshis colour, like how they did character themed wiimotes later on
it would be cool to talk about products like a chinese nintendo console, releases in limited areas that may contain interesting things, though i guess that applies to most releases in china, maybe some other asian country, and brazil (which distributed a sega console like 20 years after its support ended)
1:10:52 I own this metallic blue n3dsll, it’s a japanese exclusive and it actually looks so gorgeous it’s easily my favorite looking 3ds system, and with dual ips panels too so it’s extremely valuable to me
the trivia game is about nhk, which is a japanese multimedia company. i know them because i used to watch the news from them (i dont know why, since i dont live anywhere near japan and im not japanese). basically you answer questions about nhk tv series.
14:47 this actually isn't all that weird when you know how the Monster Hunter series works. The mainline series has two sub-series running in tandem with each other, those being the "numbered" titles that are the signifier of a new generation for the series (Wilds would be Monster Hunter 6), and the "portable" series which come out after the numbered release and are often experimental to varying degrees. Thus, Rise is the 5th portable entry (not counting G-rank expansions of course, Sunbreak would be that).
I never used Nintendo Zone on DS but I have many fond memories of downloading game demos at WalMart on my DS and trying to play them for as long as possible because the moment you turn off the console you can't play it again. I remember one time on a road trip asking if we could go to Walmart specifically because I wanted to download a game demo 😂 I ended up picking Shrek the Third which didn't go very well though. Imagine trying to get an hour's worth out of that demo.
52:00 to be fair, Miracle Mask was really rushed in Japan in order to be a launch title; while I can’t recall all of the differences off the top of my head, I know it only had one save file (compared to the usual 3) and I believe it has inferior graphics as well? The version released in the west is slightly updated, however it’s also worth mentioning that Japan eventually got a second, digital only version with all of the perks of the international release + some bonus content and cutscenes! All of the Layton games have some quirks regarding their publishing history, but Miracle Mask is really the only one with 3 distinct versions (excluding ports).
Scott! Not only the Switch micro SD cards are more expensive than their sandisk counterpart, they're NOT the best microsd card sandisk manufacture AND they're more expensive than the best microsd sandisk manufacture!
18:38 The Beyblade Wii game was also made in English. It even came with a beyblade if you got it when it was available in stores. It should be really cheap if you tried to find it now because most people that are collectors just want the beyblade from it instead of the game itself.
❗️My Timestamps: 1:28 The Wii I bought in December 2009 was the Limited Edition Black one and it came with 'New Super Mario Bros Wii'. 4:19 Scott is not colourblind. 23:28 'Custom Robo: Arena' is one of my Top Five Favourite DS Games. 30:47 I bought three of those Switch-themed SD Cards; A red Mario one, a blue Zelda one and a yellow Star one. I later sold the blue one as it was unopened and gave the red one to my nephew. The yellow one is still in my Switch. 1:01:26 It's Japanese 'Power Rangers: Super Mega Force'. The Japanese COPIED the Americans. #Fact 1:10:49 The N3DS:XL on the right is the one I have in that colour but it's PAL.
The Battle Network 1 DS remake actually includes some bonus quests where Lan and MegaMan.EXE meet Geo Stellar and Star Force Mega Man. There's a fan translation for it out there, but that doesn't really matter for Scott, since he REFUSES to mod his consoles and play fan translations for no reason. Seriously Scott, you would have SO much more fun and life would be SO much easier if you modded your systems and utilized fan translations, but apparently you like having a boring and difficult gaming experience!
7:30 I think this gets explained much better when you remember Wii Sports Resort came out while Frutiger Aero was still the most popular digital aesthetic. Perfect for corporations while also having a lot of charm and good feelings attached to it that feel so natural to consumers.
30:40 Some SD cards just don't work on the Wii, as well as HDDs for other consoles, it was a somewhat common problem that was on its way out. A lot of youtube personalities are too young to know that there used to be a lot of compatibility issues in the PC/tech world prior to like 2007 when companies finally started to agree to standardizations. Every brand, sometimes even models, of personal tech like cellphones had proprietary power, charging, and computer port.

Every brand, sometimes even models, of personal tech like cellphones had proprietary power, charging, and computer port.

In today’s yen, 25,000 would be around $161.91, & 20,000 would be around $129.53. I know the catalogs are around a decade old, but the yen dropped in value.
