  • We've done what you wish you could do with the new 2023 Ford Ranger V6 Wildtrak dual-cab ute - from towing, to off-road, to real-world fuel numbers - this review is a detailed test of the new double cab model.
    We've already done detailed coverage of the new-generation Ford Ranger line-up, but this test was all about this spec - the top-end Wildtrak V6 diesel, which is the most expensive mainstream Ranger model before you get to the ballistic Raptor variant.
    At just over seventy grand it's not a cheap thing, but with a 3.0L V6 diesel engine producing 184kW and 600Nm, plus permanent 4WD, it's definitely got some grunt behind it. So what is it like when it comes to towing a 3.0-tonne caravan? Can it handle itself off-road in the bush in Australia? And what is that big 12-inch touchscreen really like to live with?
    In this review from Matt Campbell and Marcus Craft, you'll find out! And if there's anything we've missed that you'd like to know about, hit us up in the comments. We read them and we will reply!

      Hi mate. Did you do any research about the crankshaft? The previous TDV6 frequently have premature crankshaft failure under towing. Someone told me ford re-designed the crankshaft and journals, but no not exactly sure how they did. And there is no enough information from the F150 for this TDV6,as it was only used for 3 years. Let us know if you have any information about it. Cheers.

    Over here the midsize trucks barely get mentioned, with the full size getting the focus.

      Good technique for offroad driving is to sit closer to the steering wheel for a number of reasons. Look at any Offroad driving race like rally cars or Dakar etc. The wide angle lens probably makes it look worse though.

      @@k_plax I can kind of understand the position when driving a race car, but for standard off roading (not difficult on this test) I don't see the point, especially if he catches a rock or edge and it turns the steering wheel abruptly.

    • @vanderz1012
      @vanderz1012 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on what you get. The V6 has a centre diff with 4H and 4L. A lot like the Triton Super Select. Bi turbo gets the more standard 2H, 4H, 4L

    • @jrckelley
      @jrckelley ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It doesn't have a center differential. I am surprised none of the reviews really go into it. It's a multi clutch setup which enables it to turn 4WD on or off as required. I have been searching for information on its ability to transfer torque proportionally but so far haven't been able to find any. At this stage I think it's just like the 2WD 4WD on the lower grades but it does the switching automatically by the clutch on-the-fly. This seems to be very different to a true full-time four-wheel drive system that a Jeep Grand Cherokee may use for example which has all wheel drive, four-wheel drive high locked and then 4wd.low locked. But in the end it actually seems to work

    • @vanderz1012
      @vanderz1012 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrckelley thanks for the info. Then that would make it the same 4x4 system as the Defender and Everest. All do still have proper 4x4 transfer cases that work as true 4x4 when engaged. You are correct when you say its not a traditonal mechanical centre diff like old school but works much the same as I understand. The Ford Bronco also has the same system. That is the advanced trac 4x4 system and from what I've seen it works very well

    • @vanderz1012
      @vanderz1012 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrckelley also to add on what you were saying about the lower grade as far as I understand it. A centre diff is only necessary when the vehicle is full time 4wd. The lower grades would just have the regular transfer case with no centre diff

In other words, it AUTOMATICALLY selects 4x4 drive when slip is detected. You only have to watch the torque bars in the LCD screen to see which wheels are getting drive, and it is NOT all of them all of the time! Quite a different system to permanent 4x4, which is always sending drive to front and rear, until one end or the other slips - then it needs driver intervention to maintain drive, ie, manually locking the centre diff. Very different systems.

    Compare to 4x4 24/7 channel off road sucked because of the new extended wheel base. Lift kit recommended. I think it’s too expensive especially for a ford. And the wild track is probably the best option since the raptor looses so much payload and towing.

    Hi CARSGUIDE, I've just seen the CURRENT AFFAIR regarding the issues of the current FORD RANGER. Issues such as suddenly braking at 80 km/h, dash board screen showing nothing and poor customer service. In your future videos, COULD YOU PLEASE INCLUDE CURRENT ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE (any vehicles) and WHAT THE MANUFACTURERS DOING ABOUT IT (fixes). Your videos influences how our hardworking Australians buy their knew vehicles. You will provide GREAT SERVICE to our community by providing not just the POSITIVE and NEGATIVE reviews about the vehicle but also the actual issues with it. This way, the MANUFACTURERS can be put on notice, up their standards and giving the manufacturers the idea CUSTOMER SERVICE should be their number one priority. Now that's a concept, PASSIONATE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

      I have to agree with you. This entire review was presented from a negative perspective. For example : "the dark headlining which I don't necessarily love... ; not to say that it's bad.... ; but there is also duplication.... ;it is interesting but not necessarily perfect... ; I personally prefer a horizontal layout rather than a portrait, but there is nothing I can do about that.... ; I think it's interesting looking, but not necessarily the easiest shifter to use.. ; a little bit of foot room, but not too much, a little bit of headroom, but not too much.... ; not bad, but not setting any benchmarks... ; especially when the Hilux doesn't offer anything like this yet... The ride is mostly pretty comfortable, but I wouldn't say it's perfect... This was not a review. This imo was this guy's response to the hype about the new Gen Ranger. In short what he actually said was; The new Ranger is not that great, even though it is slightly more advanced than the outgoing model it replace, in my opinion it is still not perfect. When he proclaimed that the Hilux will yet respond to the Ranger challenge, I could sense the bitter taste. I thus can't wait for the release of the Ranger in South Africa. If it was so difficult for this guy to say something good about the Ranger without following it up with a but, then it is certainly worth checking out...
