I get the feeling that If it wasnt for James incompetent driving it would have been three straight wins for the ranger😅
Even if the toyota loses, I'm still team toyota!!!
Right on
@@rynophillip4406blind loyalty to the wannabee?
@@siegmac3267 even though i would choose a falcon for a sedan any day. Any other category I too would choose a Toyota. Just the more reliable vehicle.
@@rynophillip4406 i'm glad Toyota fanboys exist. Some poor cunt bought my 2016 Toyota with a smokey DPF for $45,000. I then bought the New Ranger Raptor and the thing is a blast to drive. Lightyears and multigenerational difference in everything. It's like comparing a Jet vs a tractor. So I thank that Toyota for buying my faulty turd of a car and enabled me to buy a high performance UTE for a little bit more money! haha
Hilux are for buyers who will keep their truck forever. I bought a Hilux not for 0-60mph but for longevity and easy on the pocket maintenance.
Idiot it will last forever if you maintain properly right on schedule.
I wouldn’t keep a hilux for a day let alone forever. My 2017 Ranger Xlt has 240000 kms and haven’t had to do anything apart from std servicing. Had a 2016 hilux before that and will never buy another one. Uncomfortable, slow money pits with way less kit than a Ranger. Not to mention every time my hilux pooped itself it was off the rd for days costing me thousands in lost revenue coz I couldn’t work. Pre 2016 hilux generations were the ones that go forever. IMO
And you wish u have a v6 ranger
@@tyzon00800or Raptor
You’ve obviously still have your 90’s Hilux (forever car)!
Toyotas just aren’t that much better anymore and you just can’t justify the price difference, and nearly no one keeps them for more than 5 years, especially those that buy them for tax purposes, which is a huge proportion of buyers.
Would be good if Toyota gave the GR Hilux the 3.3l 227kw 700nm option.
👌🏼👌🏼
I really hope that toyota comes out with a proper gr hilux for the next generation
Toyota know people will still buy their crap .. basically they are like apple.... If only ford was more reliable... Toyota would step their game up
That engine doesn’t fit in hilux
As well as the 10 speed instead of that heavily outdated 6 speed.
2:17 Paul is thinking about dinner already 😂😂
Imagine if Mazda/Isuzu stick the inline 6 diesel from the CX60 in the BT-50/Dmax.....
Omg, mind blown. They would take the whole market, in-line 6 is engine perfection
Even the petrol too! It would be amazing, fingers crossed.
They won't because it will be kaput before the warranty is over
yeah but the 4jj is reliable
It looks like Paul went into the office and said, who is the worst driver here I can race against, James put his hand up and said I don't know the first thing about getting a car off the line quick, Paul said lets go James 🤣🤣😂😂
I’d be keen to know if James was even loading up the torque converter, or mashed the throttle after Sean finished saying “go”.
James ruined this video... 😢
@@CM303898 Looks like he wasn't you can see Paul's Hilux Lurched off the line, James just doddle off the line
But James won every single race in his computer games! LOL
Love these video comparisons so we don’t need to go out test driving them all ourselves, just watch car expert 😅 so now we know what to expect in the way of performance with the Ute we choose.
Exactly!

Old Toyota good new rubbish
Damn, I wish the GR Sport Hilux would have a bit of a power upgrade like adding a V6 from the LC 300 Series even if it costs a little more. I mean the all new GR spec CH-R is getting a 30kw power increase over its regular spec!?! Awesome drag race Paul and the team at Car Expert for putting this one together. Another idea of though, you could add a Navara Warrior or the Triton GSR to go up against the 4cyl Ranger and GR Hilux even some of the Chinese competitors.
LC300 is having oil burning issues. Toyota has never been the best when it comes to car power performance but better at longevity
Probably the Next generation will get the V6 or 2.4 petrol engine with more power
Toyota - Built cheap, sold expensive.
@@ev0wattoyota always consider reliability first than power.
@@southerncomfort2792 I just said that.
James first time drag racing? He messed up the start 5 times in a row?
Paul,
These tests you guys carry out are great including the 4wd testing and towing vids - it would be a good comparison to put the approx onroad costs (as per the vehicle tested) against the vehicles as a perspective comparrison. After all, at some point it is a trade off in the decision making process for the purchaser between performance, suitability, comfort, reliability, towing capacity, cargo size etc etc against price - which can make a big difference in the outcome decision to buy.
Even tho you had a much better launch, the 4 cyl ranger did pretty good catching up
Paul you jumped the gun on every run.😊
That's the only way the Hilux can do any good ! They need a better starting system, every drag race video is the same.
It's just a theory, and I'm happy to be wrong. But is the Hilux just stronger right off idle. So it appears that it was getting the jump??
@@billybob1511 yeah but most people dont use their hiluxs for drag races

Theory is this GR Hilux was designed to compete against the last gen raptor biturbo and Toyota have been caught off guard with the V6 Rangers
That's Toyota's problem. Designing something to compete with something else that's already under power and out dated. It's like apple. Their phones at 10 years behind but people still but them. Toyota should either not dropped engine size and beefed up the 3L. Or should of offered to engine sizes and put the V6 land cruiser engine in it. 💯 Toyota's fault.
@@willbuschmann2345 Exactly. I was a huge Hilux fan but started realizing that the Rangers were so much better value for money. I bought the Wildtrack instead of the Raptor in the previous generation because I didn't think the Raptor was worth the extra money, but the current generation definitely is. And I switched to Samsung as well
@@Anonymous-xl9pq except my 7 years+ 8th gen hilux had zero issues while rangers owners had lighter wallet from the maintaining it
@@Anonymous-xl9pqI know two people with engine problems already with the new ranger there fast but junk
I wonder how the GR sport performs when towing. And the land cruiser 79 series performance when towing
Can we see how it goes if the Rangers are on 4A or best modes, also on Sport? Toyota's miss for not giving it the capability.
Did you have the power button on?
Would like to see how much of a difference the rangers 4A mode would have made
My F150, if I put it in sport mode it goes into 4A also.
Would be interesting to see the "at the wheels" power and torque output of the GR vs the 150/500 version.
I think very little if any.... Gearbox lockup software is responsible for better performance if you ask me. I have driven both and have asked many a dealer if the same G/Box as the mapping as in the GR can be had on the 150kw version, but nobody knows much about it.....
Love the detail you go to with your reviews Paul. Always on the lookout for the next video release. Don’t get drag racing dual cabs. Certainly not high on my list when evaluating my next purchase.
Next time include the triton in a drag race, I am not surprised the hilux struggled to beat any version of the ranger in a race
The guy driving the ranger also launched each ranger terribly, the bi turbo would have probably won if the driver was more experienced.
We've owned a couple of those 2 litre Fords. Obviously, long-term durability is still mostly unknown. But man, they punch above their weight. When towing is just as impressive. And they do this all whilst making minimal noise and harshness.
Do you run the hilux with the power button on and trans in s mode?
Yes to power mode - and it makes no difference. It’s a throttle calibration. When you go to 100% throttle it doesn’t matter if power mode is on or not. S mode also makes no difference - it just holds to a maximum gear.
I have a Toyota kluger can I change it to diesel which type is the best kindly advise
Be good to see you review an XLS 2L with tech pack (as you've tested all of the other Rangers). They're a fair bit lighter too so would be nice to see the 0-100 times.
@user-vk4vd7vr5t Of course it is. I'd like to see, couldn't care less what you think 🤡
Please can you do the same with Triton Vgt Athlete to 3.2 Ranger and Navara or an Dmax..?
James you have to work on those reaction times buddy! Fun to watch comparo boys👍
Muy bien video se ve la comparación de la Hilux GR y aunque su fuerte no sea la velocidad se ve que con un competidor directo da la talla porque recordemos que la Ranger raptor es un segmento en prestaciones y precio totalmente diferente
It's nice battling 😃😀😀
Will we ever see v6 or maybe iforce max in the GRsport
Hope so!
Fat chance as the new Prado only getting the same 2.8 diesel 😢
How does the petrol Amarok compare in accelaration to all these?
Amarok very bad car
Thank you.
The previous Ranger Raptor only had the bi turbo and everyone complained about that. The 10 speed auto is more responsible for keeping the race close, rather than engine outputs. The 6 speed toyota gearbox isn't in the same league. The new Hilux better be damn good
Love to see a range of tests between all the Toyota 4wd models… 79 series v prado v hilux v whatever
Toyota must bring the 3,3 v6 diesel and 3,5v6 petrol
All these new Fast and the Furious 4x4 utes, but really, you should be doing a drag race with a loaded back and trailer.
In every single one of these races, either Paul jumped the start or the Ford driver was too slow. The Bi-Turbo Ranger would have beaten the GR if they both launched simultaneously. Re-do the Bi-Turbo vs GR Race again.
im am on the road of buying a new 4wd, and i think its a toss up between the gr sports and the v6 wildtrak, love to see a comparison. cheers
Would love to have seen the older Amarok V6 258 in this test. Mine was an absolute rocket ship compared to all other trucks I have owned. Including my new Wildtrak Bi Turbo
Thanks
Good job
Any chance of a segment showing emergency braking distances for all the 4wds with a 2tonne van on the back from 110kmh to 0 and maybe include a couple of normal cars to compare against for reference?
We did this (albeit with no load) in our recent Ute towing test video. You can extrapolate stopping distance with load. We also have a spreadsheet with all stopping distances for cars we have tested. Link to that is in the description of any of our regular reviews.
You should have swapped drivers Paul, and seen what happened. I think if you were driving the Rangers the results would have been even more embarrassing for Toyota.
There promoting Ford ranger bro
Are both pick ups on the sport/power mode?
Think he forgot to push the button in the Hilux.
22 Ranger Lariat, Black Widow package, tuned by Livernoise 350hp on E30. 3" lift on 33s, dealer prepped so it retained full warranty....Love it. Only reason I'd go Toyota next purchase, they're not following the EV hype like most manufacturers..
Did you press the power button makes it a hell of a lot more responsive
Think he forgot about that.
That’s crazy that the 4 cylinder ranger is pretty much the same even when weighing more and having less power. That hilux is a hunk of junk.
Yeah man idk why they wont put a more powerfull engine than thr regular hilux
Just wait till the 2025 hilux comes out. Whole new redesign
The 4cyl Ranger will be lovely until its wet timing belt self destructs and takes out the engine.
You really think the GR sport will go the distance? Cranking 165kw and 550nm out of a 4 banger means toyota have got to be feeding some serious boost into that poor 2.8l. Only a matter of time before they start blowing heads off.
@@tobychizz1290 blowing heads off at a tiny bump from the lazy stock one? You are hilarious
It would be great to see a old TRD V6 hilux vs these.
Would beat the diesels and the raptor would beat the TRD
It won't beat the v6 diesel my amarock beats them easily the Toyota v6 is a crap engine
@@JohnWinzil faster than a supercharged V6 TRD?

Great idea! Might try that for the next one.
@@CarExpertAusalso try with 4A Sport please. Toyota's fault for not having AWD. No need to handicap the Rangers
How is the livability and the upgraded feeling being in each cabin? I'm just wondering if Toyota has any kind of advantage whatsoever!
Unfortunately its just reliability and good resale value you get from yotas. Theyre boring cars but would get you from a-b without issues just slower.
Need one with sr5 nd gr sport, also with wildtrack x
Can u do offroad comparison between this utes.
The true Ranger competitor to the Hilux GR Sport is actually the Wildtrak X (which is none of these models).
It’s a higher, wider, more off-road focussed 4 cylinder diesel Ranger.
That would be the true comparison.
The ford ranger raptor just looks amazing 😍😍
Low key carwow vibes and i’m all here for it
Would be keen to see these drag races with Wright in back, and maybe trailer with weight in back. To see how well they do with weight
We did something similar recently in our mega Ute test. We used a trailer dyne and measured performance times from 0-100.
Out of curiosity. Did you have the power button depressed on the Hilux? During your review of it, you said it sharpened up the throttle response noticeably.
Have you tried Global Dominion Financing Inc. for car financing or car refinancing (Sangla OR/CR)?
are those 2 ranger 2.0?
Are they made for race?

Just give the hilux a hybrid v6 with atleast 350hp to keep up because there is no point of buying the GR when it is just a badge
You could make a pretty good argument that any Toyota is sold just because of the badge. They're not class leading in any segment They're also burning all their loyal customers with ridiculous price rises multiple times per year. There's going to be a massive fall in Toyota sales in the next few years once the Chinese and/or Indians get their act together.
@@trimat2016na mate. That’s called the Toyota advantage
There is in fact a V6 Hilux GRS available now.
Should have used the flappy paddles - good for an extra 100kw
The regular v6 only lost because he brake boosted it for that first run, for some reason that engine doesn’t like being brake boosted.
The 10AT ford transmission is weak.
Most manufactures don't spend money on the motor on existing models. It's very disappointing. They all bolt on some "extras" and charge way more. Thank you Ford for making the Raptor!!
You appreciate Ford for their efforts in creating the Raptor, which likely includes significant advancements in the engine and overall performance.
Do the Hilux on power mode?
Yes
Long way to go Hilux GR-S. New model would be the contender for Ranger model. BTW, some Sale Agent in my area, GR-S means Grab Ready-Sport. lol
I think Toyota will never give any bigger engine than the 2.8 diesel.Because they kept the same 2.8 diesel engine in new prado. If they want petrol engine they should go to Lexus gx550.If they want to give petrol engine to Hilux,They would give hybrid engine from other Toyota truck like Tacoma
I'm ready for new gen Hilux petrol V6 from the Lexus but that'll never happen I think. I'm not at all interested in 2.8 with DPF and EGR and 150kw! If Ford brings out a detuned petrol V6 Ranger it's going to be a huge success and I heard it's under development.
Thanks mate for all insights, really valuable....💪
I am Toyota fan and looking into buy a UTE upcoming December.
But, I noted even GR Sport or Rough are no upto latest interior improvements compared to the competitiveness, though I cannot expect similar lifetime, maintenance, endurance, some basic factors with my mind to keep the car for the next decade.
What are your thoughts?
I believe I will travel minimum 10,000 - 20,000 per annum as the work vehicle with the ute. We have a Rav4 hybrid for personal uses at home that also drive 10,000 - 20,000 per year.
Some say, maintenance, lifetime depend on the user and usages plus brand/ make does not matter.
Can this apply with Raptor vs Hilux?
Cheers
they have all bed cover.
that helps a bit.
but sure
the 10 speed is easier for the engine
Why don't Toyota do the 4.0 V6 petrol gr model??
Good test, now OFF ROAD vs 👍
I own the grs4 hilux. It drives very well on winding asphalt roads, while still being very capable offroad. Averaging 9.3l per 100kms in 7000 kms
you mean it drives very very slow. old man slow.
@mikeycassey8i rather pick that hilux than money eating ranger raptor lol 507
@@generizze6243 The Ranger Raptor is a lot more fun and totally worth the extra money. The only reason you could have for buying the Hilux instead of the Ranger Raptor is because you can't afford it. The previous generation Ranger Raptor didn't deserve the 'Raptor' name, which is why I never bought one. But the current one definitely does. Toyota is still stuck in the past with a vehicle that can only compete with the previous generation Ranger Raptor. They are like Apple - they know people will keep buying the Hilux no matter what, so they don't bother improving it much. The same goes for the 79 series - totally overpriced and barely any improvements. I also waited ages for the new Land Cruiser 300 series before I bought one, because my 2014 LC200 was so similar to the newer ones, The LC300 is the first one in ages to actually be a significant upgrade, and I bet I'll keep this one for the next 10 years as well, because the updates will be so insignificant.
Surprised you didn’t do a reverse race aswell! Haha
The wildtrack had an advantage with the bed cover and rear spoilers.
James looks like a Ranger driver😄
Sad thing is the 4 cylinder ranger can be tuned for fairly cheap and ads slot more HP and torque.
But to be practical, these are farm utes not drag racing utes 😂 you don’t see these utes racing in paddocks 🤣 love the vid tho 👍🏽
Both Ford and toyota offers a best package trucks than others with good performance reliability..beautiful trucks...raptor theme nice and tough...
Would be great to. See the VW/Ford petrol engine how it would go
I am definitely buying the Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2.0D Bi-turbo
Use the sport mode and puddle shifters
nice
Don't forget to mention the lack of GCM with the GR Hilux, towing Toyotas stated 3.5t capacity, the driver has to be under 80Kg or you are over the vehicles GCM limit, no passengers, no load in the tray, no baggage inside allowed just a driver under 80kg, Typical Toyota sticker upgrade and charge you another $5000 for less 🤣🤣😂😂
All i want is a BULLET PROOF car in off roads and any conditions. My neighbours has raptors but never ever been to any dirt cause they're basically scared to have issues afterwards cause its damn expensive to repair its just for shopping.
I have a new raptor and have taken it low range offroad many times, touch wood no issues yet. I'm doing Cape York and the tele track next year in it, wish me luck.😟
쌍용 토레스도 리뷰해주세요
The reason I purchased a gr sport hilux over any ranger is long term reliability.
I did quite a bit of research and the 10R80 auto is still in the middle of a long list of law suits overseas because of poor reliability.
The ecoboost 4 has the cylinders way to close together and if it runs above normal running temps it blows head gaskets and running way to much boost standard to be long term reliable.
And now the Raptor has valve spring problems and could be facing engine replacement I mean come on.
Early days for the new ranger not looking good so far!!!
B$
lol what a load of s***
It’s just sad that Toyota can’t keep up anymore 😂
Bullshit.. i have been hosing hiluxes everywhere for 10 months now and not once have I lost to a hilux even the petrol ones. The only thing that has failed in my Gen2 Ranger Raptor were the tyres. When you take them to wakefield park raceway for 20 laps those all terrains don't last long! But this current generation of Fords are built like an M1 Abrams Tank. A tank with a jet engine.
Always a Raptor fan
Like I keep saying, "Hilux GR Sport" doesn't mean "GR Hilux" and the distinction of naming conventions matter.
That doesn't say that a true GR Hilux would automatically be a Raptor killer just based on name alone, but it's clear that the Hilux GR Sport is not that vehicle, despite some messaging confusion potentially suggesting otherwise.
Trucks aren't intended for drag race, these trucks (Raptor and GR) are made for offroad hability, so this GR has reached it's goal...there is nothing toyota has to do in this truck.
Any way this GR held pretty well against those V6, it's just 4 cylinders(being a Toyota).
My thought
There is trd petrol v6 hilux. I would love to see it race against them
We don’t have that in Australia.
I don't understand why they don't put the HiAce 3.5 in the Hilux
In Colombia, a used 2022 Hilux GR is the same price as a new Chevy Silverado Trail Boss at $68k USD… have always loved the Hilux but from all the comments I’m seeing about the newer ones I’m thinking it’s time to go new.
Good
where is the Dmax?
push the power mode of hilux?
It was. Also makes no difference. It’s just a throttle calibration. At 100% throttle it does the same thing whether it’s on or off.
Can’t believe that hilux interior is the same thing since 2016
The “only as good” comment can only be true if “good” is defined as the ability to win drag races - certainly there are bigger considerations when buying a double cab 4x4?
