    I’ve had the biturbo xlt for one month now, the next gen. So far, I love this car, everything about it, suspension, fuel economy, tech, drivability and how smooth it is. I had never had a pick up before but it feels a lot like an overpowered SUV. This car is a beast even towing. And also the thing I love the most, it is impressively fast, it’s faster than any other midsize truck I can tell . No other midsize truck can match this next gen ranger. The only thing that’s yet to be proven is how reliable is this engine, I hope it is. I will try to make another comment in six months

    A big difference between the integrated brake controller and the Redarc controller. Factory controller works through the ABS system so when using Adaptive cruise control caravan brakes are applied when the car slows down. With the redarc controller this works of the brake lights which aren't turned on in adaptive cruise control so you could get into a situation where the car slows down rapidly with adaptive cruise and it won't apply the caravan brakes. I guess this is why the manual says don't use adaptive cruise control when towing

      G’day Andrew. Sorry for the late reply. I’ll have to check in with Fabio who did the install. I drive manually when towing as I can moderate throttle to the conditions - Eg you don’t want the car always trying to keep up 100kmh up a steep hill, otherwise transmission will get very hot

    Hey Mate, Thanks for the videos. I too just picked up a new Ranger, I got the Sport V6 and love it. We are now waiting for our new caravan to arrive which is taking its sweet time. I'm keen az to see how it goes towing, in particular towing up steep hills on the highway. My old car was a Mazda 3.2ltr 5 cylinder BT-50 and would slow down to under 90km/hr towing our old caravan up hills on the highway. Very frustrating and dangerous when the speed limit is 110km/hr. But better than my car before that, which was a Hilux and that thing struggled to do 80km/hr up the same hills towing the same van. I always remember thinking this is crap, I wish these manufactures would create a car with enough power to tow a small caravan up hills on the highway doing the speed limit. Then along came the V6 Ranger. I'm hoping the new V6 Ranger will do at least 100km/hr towing uphills but time will tell. Did you tow up any big hills, if so did you take note of the speed and compared to the Mitsubishi? My old caravan was around 2.5t fully loaded and I recon my new van will probably be around 2.5t also.

    • @Perth4WDandCamping

      Yeah a few hills and pulled fine. I used adaptive cruise control so it’s a nice driving experience. Tow Haul mode does a great job keeping you in the right gear band and there’s torque available all the way through. Was pleasantly surprised from my 2.4L Pajero Sport which was a great all-rounder but did struggle with hills. Congrats on the new purchase and van! Very exciting time for you 👍

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As we were off-grid, we were unable to fill up Diesel directly after towing the van (we had some general driving without the van the next day). The figure reported was with a full tank (with the trip meter reset so accounted for purely towing km). I envisage it would be reasonably accurate.
      Will monitor on our next trip. Generally trips up north encounter more hills so will be a good comparison 👍

      Definitely doesn’t help, however consumption only changed about + 1L per 100km when swapping over to the bigger tyres. Combined effect with the tyres, plus bar and winch etc certainly adds more weight

      A lot of good citizens here, but it’s not about speed which is just a number it’s about handling and braking because incorrect use of speed can only be a contributing factor in an accident and never the cause this is why we can’t bring down our death numbers on the road because we are not addressing the cause of accidents.

  • @arkhurdler7308
    @arkhurdler7308 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm interested in the comparison. Did adding the lift and tires settle the PS down in general in your opinion or did it reduce the comfort of the factory ride? Did it have to work a lot more to drive those heavy tires? And finally, towing, night and day different or similar? Cheers in advance.

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  ปีที่แล้ว

      Factory suspension is trying to cater for many scenarios so it’s never going to be perfect towing, but will be generally more comfortable for day-to-day driving.
      Considering the springs I’ve added are a lot more heavy duty the ride is good on the road. Slightly firmer than stock without towing/or carrying load, but when you do add a van on the back the towing experience is much better - more comfortable and sits level. On stock at times the suspension was hitting the bump stops - especially off road.
      Car rides well on 33” tyres. The main thing you notice is gearing is not always as smooth as stock. You can address this with a Forescan adjustment - search Forescan on Facebook for more info here, but not something I’ve done yet.
      Only other thing considering which would aid longevity of the trans for towing is adding an after market oil cooler. Trans can get warm towing, and whilst I wouldn’t expect issues during warranty, playing the long game this is probably a good idea.

    Left home with a weighbridge GCM of 5960kgs and did 1250kms for 16.3l/100kms. Towed well, I need to sort out some weight distribution, by weight distribution I mean where I put stuff, bit of a different game this one with 3400 GVM and 6400 GCM, axle weights at bridge also interesting but too much for this short missive. At 80kph in any mode you would only be running in 8th. Tow mode didn't do it for me, have asked Ford what the end game is particularly on deceleration ended up using normal and 4A. Certainly a better tow vehicle than the PX2 Ranger I was driving and there was nothing wrong with it, I did have it tuned to 600 odd NM and 180kw which made a huge difference, but the power/torque band on this one seems more comprehensive. Ranger comes stock 184kw and 600nm of torque out the box. No doubt tuning will come which will push these numbers higher - plus mated to a 10 speed transmission which gives you smooth power delivery. Tech in the new Ranger is miles ahead of the competition. No doubt others will catch up but Ford have moved the goal posts with this one

    I have some bad news for you.
    The big screen you have in the car will only work for 5 years.
    People in the USA are finding out that the screen after 3 years starts to fade out.
    And i have more bad news that it will cost 7,000 to replace.
    The car yards that sell cars with the screens will try to sell you extended
    Warranty and that will cost you more money.

      Can’t believe so many people are bagging the next gen Ford Ranger. There’re only new and long term data hasn’t emerged yet.

    At 80 Km/hr you are just another annoying caravaner causing anger on the road, I tow a 24 foot van at 100 so as not to hold up traffic and in real life I get 18Lt per 100 best 16.5Lt per 100 with a V6 ranger. The vaners that travel at 80 or less are trouble for everyone, they make truckers life twice as hard . They have strict loading and unloading times and if they miss it they could wait up to next day to get in all because of being held up.

    thanks for the towing video, I'm looking seriously at this vehicle and getting all the info I can. In regards to the rear seating, I don't have kids but 2 large dogs (55kg and 34kg) would they be comfy if I got a cushioning for the footwells behind the front seats??

      G’day Sean. Hard for me to comment on suitability for dogs but I can say that according to my daughter, she feels that there’s as much leg room and more width than our Pajero Sport. Guess it depends how much your dogs spread out! Ha

    How can you compare a v6 Ford ranger to a pagjero sport for towing is beyond me.

      Why’s that? One is my previous vehicle and the other our new one? Plenty of people move between wagons and utes and there are pros and cons to doing so. Both vehicles also rated to towing over 3T (3.1 on PS vs 3.5T on the Ranger) and plenty of people using the Pajero Sport as their tow vehicle.
