It’s finally here: the new T6.2 Ford Ranger with a turbo diesel V6 engine, and our man Iain Curry has driven it. This is the new Ranger Wildtrak V6 diesel, the top of the range until the Ranger Raptor twin-turbo petrol arrives next month. With a 184kW (246 hp) V6 under the bonnet with 600Nm of torque this ute has serious grunt, with more torque than the outgoing Volkswagen Amarok and way more performance than a Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mazda BT-50, Isuzu D-Max or Mitsubishi Triton.
But should you line up to buy a new Ranger V6? Or are other utes better value? Let’s take a first look today, driving the Ranger off-road and on tarmac.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct - so this is an independent, honest review of the Ford Ranger.

@@godfreyjnbaptiste5863 we have had the 2.0 and the 3.2. Its night and day compared to both of those engines in the way it delivers its power, very smooth and seamless. The ride characteristics is probably 25% better in feel also. The tech is great and maybe a bit of a learning curve with its layout. I chose the sport because it had everything I needed. Wildtrack has heated seats/black hood lining and and some different exterior stuff but nothing major.

I’ve had nothing but issues with mine, either getting stuck, draining the battery and the included tub lights not turning off. If there was an option of using the manual release I would use that.

What would be the point of fitting paddle shifters to a Diesel dual cab with a 10 speed auto that's a lot of shifting, I believe you would use them once and realise your lost in amongst all the gears and put it back to auto. The new Ford Ranger . . . Mmmmm . . . I'm not so sure I like it that much. It comes across as a little bit underwhelming for me. Perhaps they tried to do a little to much with the front lights? The F-Series in America looks a lot better with similar styled lights. Simplicity is key and I think the Ford Ranger looks a bit "over-cooked", especially at the front! Haven't seen it in the 'flesh' yet.
And no paddle shifters??? That is a huge oversight! Sure, not everybody likes them, but then it should at-least have been an option as, it makes "over-writing" the auto-box such a breeze!!! (Only true 4x4 and motoring enthusiasts appreciate paddle shifters as manual transmissions are becoming ever more rare)! - Sometimes Auto-boxes just do things you don't want or even expect; and the quickest way to "correct" this is by flicking paddle shifters!!! It's such a boon to have them! I cannot believe Ford as omitted this, yet again!

Both of my cars have never missed a beat and I tow a 2850kg caravan and I had a 21ft fiber glass boat at 2700kg. Also I do not thrash my cars like an idiot after all they are not giving these away.
