I remember Shalimar. I remember Jody Whatley blowing up and I remember Howard's solo career. Looks like Jody gets the last laugh. She out did both the guys. To this day Jody refuses to perform with these men. I feel that her treatment was far worse than anything we'll ever know.

I’ve seen Shalamar many times in concert. They have a great performance and each member brought something so special to the group. I was mesmerized with them as a teenager and being a singer myself, I took notes. I applaud Jody for knowing her worth and leaving. She’s a Queen ❤ Jeffrey has as very nice accent now and appears to be in a state of peace and happiness. Howard apologized for his part in the mistreatment of Jody and I’m glad but I wish he knew her worth then.

Stephanie said on The Breakfast Club that she and Jeffrey would fight a lot during their marriage. Stephanie wasn't no punk tho. She is from Brooklyn. She also said that she and Jody got into it as well.
I'm sure Howard was mad as hell when Jody went solo and blew up. She had way more success as an solo artist than she did as a member of the group. She definitely got the last laugh. Her solo career was more successful than Howard's solo career. Howard's light skin and curly hair wasn't enough.

MJ has always given Jeffrey credit for teaching him the backslide/moonwalk. There is an interview with LaToya who talked about Jeffrey teaching Michael the moonwalk.
Michael has always said he got the moonwalk from other inspirations including Jeffery Daniel but the moonwalk has been done since the 40s tap dancers have done it it just wasn't called the moonwalk he gave it the name but not the actual dance

I could never figure out why people gave him all the credit, I seen many people do it better and some of them were not professional dancers. I have seen the old tap dancers do it on film. I saw it done by someone in my brothers dance troop back in 83. Watch the movie Breakin' from 84 and see Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers literally float.
BTW, Boogaloo Shrimp did it in tennis shoes on a sidewalk, not with slick bottom shoes on a stage.

Jodi was a wonderful customer of mine at my job. She was always so sweet and kind. I was so shocked when I found out Howard was married to my Junior High School classmate, Rainy.
I used to want them to get back together soooo bad, but after this, I completely understand why she shut that wish down in their Unsung video and I don’t blame her. I’ll just keep having concerts in my kitchen and car.

Jodie is actually touring right now. She was in the Palm Springs,Ca area on November.
I loved me some Shalamar and they were great for MTV's video lineup. And Jody was such a fashion icon. My favorite song is the Second time around, it takes me back to my happy days when all family members were alive and healthy and we were close growing together in Atlanta, Georgia, and I was in my high school days and there were dance parties at school and friends' houses and most of us kids were not aware of violence. I saw the moon walk done in movies that were during the black and white cinema period, even Fred Astaire had done that back in the day and it was basically from a black dancers. It great to hear that they all did well on their own (which is rare). Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.

17:25 I mean, Michael never claimed that he invented the moonwalk lol! He said himself that it was taught to him. Plus, there’s a video of a dancer (I forgot his name) doing the move in like the 30s or 40s, so it wasn’t like Jeffery came up with it either.
On top of that, Jeffery and Michael worked together a few times, there’s a video of them working on the choreography for the Bad video. I highly doubt that one would work with someone who stole something from them.🤷🏾♀️

I ran into Jeffrey Daniels a few years ago at a Soul Train themed club event he was hosting in Osaka. He told me he's been living in both Osaka and London for since the late 80's.
They were one of if the THE most toxic abusive groups of all time. I hate they beat on each other, especially intimidating & physically abusing Jody! 🤬

Stephanie Mills was in love with Michael Jackson. It's funny that she ended up married to Jackson family cousin, Jeffrey Daniel. Stephanie accused Jeffrey of pushing her out of a moving car. Jody allegedly got into fist fights with both Jeffrey and Howard and Jody never forgave Howard for punching her and that other assault you mentioned.
Edit: Neither Michael nor Jeffrey "created" the moonwalk. It's an old dance and Michael popularized the move.

2. Stephanie Mills married Jeffery (allegedly) as a rebound from Michael Jackson, who she dated briefly in 1980 - 1981, and was NEVER gotten over, since....there was some rivalry between Jody & Steph, also, around Fall 1981.....
3. ...It was the UK, not Asia, that Jeffrey was sent to, to promote Shalamar; he went to Asia after he stayed in the UK, and Jody did also, after the "Dead Giveaway" Video Shoot, Summer 1983...

Happy Birthday, Ashley! Great video, as always! I remember Shalamar because we loved them from the start and thought they would be HUGE, but then there were all the rumors about Jeffrey and Jody. For example, Jeffrey is said to have married Stephanie Mills while still dating Jody. When Jody found out, according to the word on the street, she went all upside Jeffrey's head. It was after that the rumor spread that Jody became involved with Andre Cymone, Prince's former bandmate and best friend. Allegedly, Jeffrey wanted Jody back, and I don't know how true it is but when Stephanie found out, it was said she jumped him and fought him in their car. The rumors were always about Jeffrey fighting girls . . . and losing. He got his a## kicked. I didn't know about Howard, though. For some reason, he stayed out of the most street talk, but we did hear about his blow-up with Jody in Japan because Jody was said to refused to be in "The Look" video, so they brought in a woman who wore a mask during most of the video pretending to be Jody. We were sick to our stomachs when we saw the following picture of the group that featured Howard with two people we didn't know. Allegedly Jermaine Stewart was one of the people who filled in for Jeffrey Daniels until a full-time replacement could be found. No matter what, there will never be another Shalamar. The Sound of Los Angeles Records (SOLAR) only knew they had struck gold with that group when it was too late. Sad because they would have been bigger than Michael Jackson and Prince combined. Ashley, THANK ,THANK ,THANK YOU for hearing my request to do a video on Shalamar. You shouldn't feel bad about what you said in the middle of this video about Howard Hewett. You were right ! Him and Dick Griffey were wrong for how they treated Jody Watley during the early 80s. That's why she ended up being the most successful of Shalamar. KARMA IS VERY REAL! lol. Jody even said that after she released her first album that, Griffey cornered her at a party in the late 80s and said "you think you're so smart huh Watley"??? He was so mad at her success as a solo artist that, he even sued her because, Jody "allegedly" breach her contract when she left the group in 1983. Jody said she had to give him 25 percent of the money she made off of her 1987 debut album. Smh.
I surprised you didn't mention the 1996 reunion that Babyface did with Howard, Jody and Jeffrey when he did an update version of "For The Lover In You". There's a video of them performing together (right here on TH-cam lol) where Jody isn't giving Howard ANY attention during the performance. Lol.
I think it finally hit Howard years later about how he treated her. Which is why he apologize last year. I hope she accepted it and they can get together and do a REAL Shalamar reunion. Either way, great video!!! 👍

Thank you for this video. I often wondered what happened to the three of them. I knew Howard had gotten the big head and things start falling apart. I didn't know who Jody had a child by because it was never said. I thank the trio for the nice music and sharing spart of their life with us at a young age back then.

I went on a Shalamar fan page on Facebook years ago. The admin of the page called me a "fair weather fan" after I left a comment once. Shalamar's fans went OFF on that admin for calling me that. Told her calling me names was unnecessary and what I said wasn't bad, and it was true! I said, "No, it's okay. I don't need a f**kin' page to be a Shalamar fan. If this is the kind of treatment I get for being a fan and for saying something that wasn't even bad, and it was actually TRUE and was actually stated AS FACT by Jody Watley or Howard Hewett or Jeffrey Daniel or Micki Free ... screw it. I'll just be a fan on my own." To the admin, I said, "F**k you AND this page!" I haven't been on there since.
Wow I didn't know they did stuff like that on that page I am a member of that Shalamar fan group page that's crazy.. I'm just like you.. I don't need a page or Facebook to be a fan of Shalamar

Shalamar is a good example of the only limitations that matter are those we impose upon ourselves. Seems like big ego limited the group and individual careers. It also a good example of how high one can rise when we say " No more!" and remove ourselves from negative situations.
