Ash, Stevie has BEEN legendary since “Songs in the Key of Life”. Barry Gordy was pushing for Stevie to hurry up with the album, but Stevie was working at his own pace. Barry was worried and dogging him to get the work done. He was afraid it was going to go nowhere. It ended up being one of the best selling albums of all time.

And some of that has to do with something beyond the music itself. It’s in the ENERGY. And the music reflecting decades and social/political changes. And TIME itself. Little Stevie was already making music when R. Kelly’s mama was still a baby girl. Just no comparison. And I’d like to think that R. Kelly would agree and bow to the master. :-)

I told my Pops Stevie could see and he said I was too young and didn’t know what I was talking about. Then I showed him the TH-cam video of Paul McCartney passing by him and knocking the mic down. After he saw Stevie trying to catch it before it fell he said “ I be dam “.
Stevie is legally blind. My friend is also legally blind (newly) and it frustrates her that people don’t understand what that means. If you are over 75% blind, you are legally blind. People who are legally blind can see shadows or maybe silhouettes. But they can’t see anything clear or figure out who is right in front of them but they can tell if someone is in front of them.

Ashley don’t you dare change one thing with the way you tell your stories. I accidentally ran onto you page and started watching. I’ve been watching ever since. Your style and delivery is absolutely the best!! People like to put these people on pedestals… some rightfully so but the “T” and scandal, their ups and downs show that they just a person like all of us. Some stories are really sad. Some people even dream of being in his or her shoes. But after you hear what some of these people have gone through to get where they are, most people would change their minds. Fame and fortune comes at a big price. I’m so glad you do these stories just the way you do. Please do change a thing.

My sister in law was mostly blind but she trained herself to look directly at whomever was speaking to her. Some blind people do not learn this skill.
On the Jackson’s mom side, I believe they’re second or third cousins. Saw a video not too long ago with Janet mentioning it at an award show she states it as well.
And he IS a LEGEND. He’s one of those people we be like “Please protect him.” He’s one of the GREATS that we have left 😢.

Stevie gonna be just fine. He done outlived many greats. He'll be around a long time. I remember seeing him on a old white only Beach Party movie. I think he was playing piano and singing on the roof. I saw this movie so much when a kid. Couldn't wait to see Lil Stevie come on the scene.
Janet was also on the radio station WGCI here in Chicago about 15 years ago and she told the host that Stevie is their cousin.
Yeah on the mother’s side. Scruses, Wilbons, Morrises, etc. Lula even lived in East Chicago, Indiana for years before she moved to Saginaw, Michigan where she had Stevie and his brothers (their only sister was born in Detroit).
Stevie and Syreeta wrote and recorded some great music together ☺️

The first time I ever heard about Stevie Wonder being able to see was when the video of him catching a falling mic stand popped up a few years ago. There are a couple of possibilities.1) Somebody warned him that the stand was falling (because there was someone standing right behind him. 2) He can tell the difference between light and dark. And after 60+ years of performing, he knows what the silhouette of a mic stand looks like.

Fun Fact: One time I was listening to a radio show (podcast) with Smokey & Stevie and Stevie was joking around about a woman having big legs he says "ooohhh she got some big legs don't she?" Smokey says "I wouldn't know - you the one walkin around here bumpin into folks" Stevie just busted out laughing like he guilty
Unlike the other Motown live LPs at the time, this was not recorded at the Apollo. Stevie's Album was recorded at the Chigago Regal. He was underage to perform in Chigago, so the LP doesn't mention where it was recorded. On the song Fingertips, you hear the conductor say What key, What key. That's Mary Wells conductor, Joe Swift.
Stevie wouldn't leave the stage after his set. Joe Swift came on to the stage for Mary Wells set. He comes out as the song breaks down in the middle, hence his comment. Little Stevie at times literally had to be carried off the stage by Clarence Paul and others.

Morris is her mother's maiden name. She was related to some of my church members in East Chicago, Indiana and came to visit often. My mom remembers the family being at church during their visits in her childhood, and while he was a teenager. She said he even got a whopping in the basement of the church between Sunday school and church service lol! Her birthday was on Friday, and this video is gonna be right up her alley!!! She actually was raised in East Chicago. Least partially (forgot when she moved there). In fact, Stevie sometimes would spend some weekends there visiting cousins (this after they had settled in Detroit).
I’m from EC and my Daddy remembered when Stevie lived in New Addition. Daddy said that they attended Columbus School together and that Stevie spit cookie in a little girls ear, lol! He’s related to the Morris family that owned Morris Liquors on Alexander a block away from Antioch. Daddy said they lived in New Addition after his Mom divorced his Dad and then they moved to Detroit.

My cousin still lives in the house my great grandfather bought on the corner of Melville across the street from what used to be Pat's Store in New Addition. I was up there recently for my great-aunt's funeral in April on my grandmother's side. Are you related to Greg Walker? That's my god sister's father. Small world! Like really small to find other people who know about EC on YT lol. I say I'm from Chicago because no one knows where tf EC is lmao! I moved to Houston as a child, but I was home any time I had more than 5 days outta school. I just asked my mom and she remembered Stevie at Columbus too. She was freaked out because he was blind, but could tell who you were by the foot steps coming up to him!

My family was Senth Day Adventist and they sent me to church on Saturday. I thought church was boring so I went to my 12 year old friends' (twins) house. They thought church was boring, too, so we watched Stevie do FINGERTIPS on American Bandstand. I am 71 now and have been following his career ever since. He's a genius, in my estimation.

Hey Ashley!!!! I was so tickled listening to this. I'm blind so believe me your mind will be your third eye. EVERYDAY I have to deal with people not thinking I'm blind cuz I still do my normal stuff except drive. Believe me when something tragic happens like this you will find out just how much u can accomplish. After going blind not even a year afterwards I went back to college and graduated and starting my own charter bus company💗💗💗
