The Black community wasn't ready for Grace. We did a great disservice to her. She lived her life to the highest and for that I think she is an inspiration. When I was a flight attendant, I saw Grace Jones going through the security checkpoint and I mean that woman is absolutely stunning in person. TV does her no justice. Everyone was staring at her and her skin was glistening. I wished she got on my flight!
Grace Jones was uber outrageous because she was raised in a strict Caribbean Christian household. During that period the focus was poise and Godliness. She felt it was too much so she would wild out and remain in trouble until she migrated here to the States. Her brother is pastor Noel Jones and he spoke out about her extravagant ways...go figure.

The first memory of grace jones, was on a sun splash vhs tape. My mother used to open the curtains and raise the blinds in the living room, open up the terrace door, and pop in the tape. She then started cooking. She would drink her wine or a little rum punch and it was on. Next thing I know, I am in the middle of the living room dancing with her. She loved that time of music. Grace jones was one of the entertainers on that tape. It was her first time singing back home. She sang my Jamaican guy. I remember just staring at her. She was naturally beautiful. She had a radiance about her. Jimmy cliff, third world, Ziggy Marley and the melody makers, and more. The early eighties in the Bronx, n.y. ……..I will always cherish those memories!😇

I saw Grace Jones perform in Dallas at a club when I was a very young adult. She was absolutely fabulous.
You could tell that she was a little "quirky"😂 (well a hot mess of quirky) but I absolutely loved her. She probably did some things that we wish we could have done but didn't want to get in trouble. Anyone on this TH-cam video love Grace Jones will know her other songs. I love all of her songs but my favorites were " pull up to the bumper", "slave to the rhythm" and "nipple to the bottle". When I look at Grace what I see is somebody who came from nothing and had triflin' bullies in her life, like 'Master P.,' trying to break her spirit, (because they're simple, small and insecure), but she had an unflappable sense of self, steel-like personal power, and belief in who she was, she overcame all that and THRIVED. Particularly in an era when it was damn near impossible for somebody who looked like her to reach the heights she achieved. All the rest is noise, honey. She is an extraordinary human being.
