After so many changes and updates to 40K lately, and with so many armies without new codices, I jumped back into AoS. I'm not quitting, just taking an extended break from 40K. And so far, I have been enjoying building and painting my AoS armies.
Looking at Sylvaneth vs using Sylvaneth is the same as looking at the cover of 'Watership Down' and thinking "This'll be a cute movie for my little ones to watch" 🤣
YES. My heart on Sigmar's side forever.❤🔥 Although I'm infinitely saddened by the absolutely shoddy attitude of Games Workshop to the “Legends” rules. Now they are putting entire factions into legends trash can, and Legends of previous Editions donэt even receive Legend rules and are completely discontinued. I have a lot of old fantasy vintage models, such as Greenskins, all on round bases adapted irrevocably for the Mortal Realms! Of course I'd rather die than be square based. And I recommend that 40k players prepare: the Leman Russ tank will be placed in Legends, if not in this Edition, then in 11Ed for sure. Leviathans and Contemptor Dreadnoughts will not even receive Legend rules in the 11th edition 100%.
I’m also very excited for 4th edition. 3rd edition during the pandemic was what got me into the hobby. Took a lot of trial and error to finally figure out how to play properly but loved every second of it. Got 1500pts of Nurgles Children and currently 1250 of the Ogors. Can’t wait to play
With Forgeworld I often hear about its issues from 40K players but as a Middle Earth SBG player I can’t speak highly enough about their forgeworld products. I have a whole Iron Hills army and everything was perfect bar a couple of spears I needed to warm up, maybe I was lucky though I have across my armies a lot of forgeworld stuff and I’ve never had any problems at all. The majority of new MESBG stuff is all forgeworld now and whilst yeah I’d rather new plastics I have to say some of the forgeworld kits the range has got have been stunning. Thranduil on elk, Dain on his warpig or the Dragon Emperor to name a few are fantastic centre pieces.
I've just started painting one of the new named Orcs from the Defence of the North supplement after having just finished the old plastic orcs from the Mordor Battlehost and as much as I quite like the older sculpts these new characters are absolutely GORGEOUS. I wouldn't say putting them together was absolutely perfect because some parts weren't 100% flush fits but considering the horror stories I'd heard about FW quality control they were fantastic. Definitely agree I'd prefer proper plastic kits but honestly FW has done a stellar job. That Glorfindel sculpt alone is tempting me to start a full army it's that pretty.
@@UnitRico Luckily I’ve not had that issue but I’m sure like you others have, GW must just be giving me their best stuff 😉 Yeah I have that Glorfindel sat on the side with the new plastic Elrond and 2 boxes of the Rivendell Knights just waiting for GW to give us some updated High elf warriors I’m sure we’ll get some as the plastic ones are older then old 😂 they’ll be a FW troop blister pack one day I’m sure of it 🙏 Yeah the 40K stuff does seem to be a lot worse I haven’t ever bought any of it so couldn’t comment, nothings as bad as Finecast I have about 2000pts of Mirkwood and the amount of Finecast Warriors and some heroes I’ve had to clean build etc that was torture! Can’t wait to see what the middle earth team have planned next for the next big supplement coming towards the end of the year
You know what blows my mind? The AoS 4th Ed drop just feels cleaner. Wayyyyyy cleaner. Every army has MULTIPLE (4) formation options on index release instead of just 1 detachment. Everything you need for competitive play is in the Generals handbook. There’s no special tournament companion that’s also separate from the misssion cards that also comes with a small pamphlet that has rules commentary that doesn’t mention EVERYTHING because some of it is already found on the ACTUAL rules commentary which doesn’t answer many questions because those questions are answered on the FAQ document. AoS is just a better put together game flat out.
Hi Jay - that's not how we Oregonians say Oregon. There's no E at the end of Oregon. So, not "Or-a-gone". Think "Or-a-gun". Thanks as always for the content :)
as someone who’s into gundam models my fantasy is that GW teams up with Bandai to make some “no glue required” fully functional scale models of things like the Titans or Tau battlesuits. One reason that wouldn’t happen is probably because for all of Bandai’s faults they mostly price their wide release kits on the amount of plastic in the box, as in they often give a fair price, and I just can’t imagine GW going along with that lol
You’re somewhat explaining why I don’t like competitive. I can’t imagine playing a tourney. I just play casual with friends and am happy to get 2 games in a full day, and knowing some of them are probably “scooping” (a concession is made midgame)
As a fellow fan of Sylvaneth, things aren't looking too good. The army feels like it struggles just to function. You still have a ton of hoops to jump through, but the "payoff" is literally just healing for D3. Against magically strong armies, you will struggle to do anything. And against non-magic armies, your magic won't be enough to do anything. Drycha in particular went from auto-include to "why would you ever bring her?". Her shooting went 3+/3+ with mortals on 6's to 4+/4+ with no mortals. Absolutely horrendous. She was always fragile, but her good shooting, being a wizard and being a monster made her good enough in most armies imo. Now, her shooting sucks, being a wizard is worthless, and being a monster is probably a negative. Way too expensive, doesn't do anything AND she adds a drop to your army. It looks like Lady of Vines might be a strong addition, since she literally doubles your faction terrain. But she's also a warmaster, which means she has to be your general. But she's a monster with 8 health, so she will die very very quickly and give your opponent free points. Maybe we can literally surround her with units and hope the opponent doesn't have shooting? Spite Revenants are efficient damage for their points, but they are slow and fragile, so you will struggle to deliver them. The only objectively good non-hero units, the Kurnoth hunters, went from a 3+ save to a 4+ save, so they are more fragile. Bug riders might be good. Alarielle is probably good. Belthanos is probably good. But if you don't have either of those centerpieces, I don't think the army functions. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Meanwhile KO is looking hilariously bad. 500 point boat has 12" guns. If you touch it, the boat can't fallback and shoot, so if your opponent just gets a little bit lucky your 500 point unit is condemned to be in combat forever, as its two main guns can't fire in combat. Their exo-suit, armoured dwarves are 60 points each, for 2 wounds with a 4+ save. Yikes. Their elite, warrior caste dwarves, that need to be in melee, absolutely die instantly. Given they have no priests and no wizards, free endless spells and manisfestions means nothing to them. Sylvaneth monster build looks much better than whatever KO is failing to do this edition.
Every creator I follow brings up the issues with 40K and the bloat and how hard it is to keep track of everything. Hopefully this leads to some change.
4:44 I don't know about the rest of the world, but titans in the UK have been sold out for a long time. Some people suspect they will be made in plastic during the agents of the imperium codex release.
FW looks like itll be for specific 40k factions like Custodes, the specialist games, HH and Old World, and Middle Earth. Of course the colossal models like Titans which I assume all those models still make them a lot of money. Definitely reducing their work load dramatically over this edition.
If you want a game with a replay without the pauses, check out Battlestar Galactica Deadlock - its a space strategy combat game. You give all of your ships orders whilst the game is paused, it then unpauses for the orders to be executed. Rinse and repeat. At the end you can replay the battle but without the orders bits, just a straight cinematic of the battle. A 10-15 minute game replays in 3 or 4 minutes 😂
