Alas, poor Shovel Knight has fallen to Chaos... Just kidding, that's obviously Steven the Defiler. Or Defiler Steve to his friends. :) As always, fantastic paint job. I have to say though that I think I prefer GW's defiler. This one is to round and smooth and I like the hard edges of the original original one. That said, I also prefer Iron Warriors so that's probably it. I'm glad that you beefed up the puny body section holding the legs, that is the biggest problem with the original defiler, the proportions are completely whack. Again, great job and good luck to you and Steve!
"After some blending and glazing I DECIDED THE "GUN" NEEDED SOME VEINS"@noahbell7642 Please Mr. Eons, no sir it does not. It really, really does not 😢
Such a unique model, such a shame that GW didn’t go further down that style of model. I love the “newer” style of Demon Engines, but the Defiler is so unique. I’d love to see a redo of the model from GW one day, but I doubt it’ll ever happen.
@@HomeSliceOfWhiteBreadWell at least the body of this version is more balanced with the head itself, because the original model looks like a head put in a box, in general the problem is that the head itself was not executed well, because if it is removed it would only be a spider/lobster I think there is really no way to solve the problem of the head without removing the essence of the model, perhaps integrating it into the body itself, making the torso itself the head, taking out the cannon from his mouth or something 🤔
Very excited to see those wardogs painted up. I love how those Death Guard models paints up and seeing the layering on a larger surface will really help me replicate something similar on my own Knights
@yagsipcc287 was announced as a new release for the eye of terror campaign in white dwarf 282 (uk edition, the issue numbers are different in North America) which was June 2003
cant wait to see all those walkers painted in your death guard style. Also, Ive seen a lot of people doing kitbashes with brigands and the deathguard pllaguedrones and stuff
idk why but this custom Defiler kinda makes me wish yall would create a Necron Lokhust Lord someday. I really love the way this one turned out! Those highlights always bring the craziness of the color blends together on your Death Guard, its amazing!. Definitely an improvement over the old model that needs a model overhaul and not really an update. Its model has always looked goofy without some cool custom work done to it
I 100% love the defiler and I have four of them even though I can only run three so I’m in the process of converting one into a soul grinder so I can run it as an ally. Are amazing and the model is perfect. . Period I really like the paint job on this crabby boi, wow i have to take a look at how im painting and maybe make it more chaotic
The Defiler is one of those iconic units that got my attention with DoW. I hope that GW doesn't replace it but gives it the terminator treatment of just uprez it. I love the demon engines but I hope they keep the more explicitly mechanical monstrosity rather than the recent fleshier direction.
The scuttley rule would be cool if it could walk over enemy infantry and inflict D3 mortals. I’m just imaging the feet doing a bit of incidental impaling. Love the paint job and sculpt. It’s definitely one of the last relics in the Chaos line.
that is a sweet paint scheme. Never liked the original Defiler; I've scratch built one, totally modded a GW Defiler kit and kit bashed one out of a Forge Fiend. Your printed model is a nice departure from the GW design. Thanks for sharing!
Thought I should point out that the reason the Defiler looks so old and chunky is because it came out in 2003, near the end of the third edition, and not 2008. Personally I've always liked the concept of a big crustacean/arachnid-like daemon engine with huge pincer claws and a stonking big gun on the front, but the model always left something to be desired. It has some cool elements, but felt dated to me even back then, with the static, rigid pose of the flail being the worst offender. I think my personal favorite Defiler variant would be the Brass Scorpion of Khorne. I like that yours has a sort of retro 1990's-2000's vibe. It reminds me a lot of Sir Killalot from Robot Wars/BattleBots. Also loving the paintjob as usual.
Honestly the defiler could get a modern updated model similar to the Venomcrawler (which in of itself feels very much like a spiritual sucessor to it), and itd be a unit everyone loves.
For the name. In German the chaos defiler is called Chaos Geisel. What means as much as Chaos Chastiser. I always liked that name so I go for : Chastiser
I play Artillery and Zombie Death Guard, where I utilize the plagueburst crawlers, Blight Hauler and Foetid Bloat Drone, with some Heavy Infantry like Terminators and a horde of Poxwalkers. Such a fun mix of Squishy, Tough and long range hard hitters
This looks great Jay and Nick. GW needs to take alot of the chaos old stuff at the back of the shed and make them go away for good. The chaos bikes and tanks need a refresh.
always interesting toi see you paint your death guard, they are unique and i find this scheme to be one of the most inspiring. It just yell to us to put some paint on our many and go from there
Wow! Such an interesting defiler proxy and so well painted! It's so nice I want one of my own, However I LOATHE the head claws the moment I saw them. So unless a alternative set is released I'm going to have to pass on this.
I feel bad for saying this but I like every about the model except for the mask hands. I love the shovel hands and idk, the faces don't give me that same feeling.
Very very cool, buuuuuuut, I wonder if its worth raising the gun up to more chest height, especially if youre gonna paint it pink and put veins on it, if you know what mean 😉
The defiler was kinda cool a decade ago, especially with conversions and stuff. I feel like it just really, really, needs an update to bring it in line with the newer demon-engines. A more demonic mix of mechanical and flesh.
@@mondo3802 I sympathise with your sentiment but the Crimson Fist being the very first space marines to created gives Jay the opportunity to do something a little different. He can go with a 1980s retro/judge dredd style common to the artwork of the original Rogue Trader book. And he could use a Horus Heresy Beakie as an homage to the RTB01 box set. It would be a break from the normal Codex compliant marine. You have to admit, that would be a spin on the normal SM paint job.
Internet I need your help: For some reason, this videos script (so everything usually said by Jay) is read out to me by some AI voice in german. (This might be due to the fact that I am living in germany.) I have already set the location and language settings of the app to UK, but that doesnt fix it. I just want my normal EOB back:(
Im a simple guy, the Defiler is easily one of my favorite models BUT it *really* shows its age now which is a shame. I loved my crab walker and it was pretty good on the tabletop as well since it could handle a bunch of everything decently well, be it long range, CC or just shredd infantry with flame and lead. If they updated it, i think it could be really cool with today's quality of models. For a name, how about CACTICUS THE IMPALER. It sounds proppa'
The only major problem for the official GW Defiler is that it has a weird aesthetic that doesn't easily fit into most Chaos Space Marine factions. Also, the tentacle weapon being physically designed to just point out straight is visually confusing - I'm not even sure it it's supposed to be a melee weapon or a ranged attack. Conceptually, the model is a great addition if you can find a way to make it look cohesive with the army. But the only place where it really does is in the Black Legion.

The faces on the melee weapons really remind me of the first bionicles movie.
Glad I'm not the only one who got Bionicle vibes from this
This is 100% my favorite of Jay’s army paint schemes, it’s just plain impressive to watch him paint the scheme
The claws' masks are literally Toa Tahu's masks from Bionicle... and I love it!
So glad I'm not the only one who say it

That legit does look like a fucked up Kanohi Hau
The Defiler was THE SHIT back in the day and STILL! Glorious Dawn of War days crushing fools with Defilers and Possessed Marines
Hell yeah brother! Do you hear the voices TOO??!?
@@johnkerr762 😂😂😂😂
I cant stop seeing the legs with the masks as the old Bionicle mask for the toah of fire. It's really stuck in my head hahah
I have no nostalgia goggles, the GW Defiler looks awesome
The only things that looks dorky are the head and melee weapons.
I'm on your team. Looks good to me.

Really Angry Lobster.
No that's a really stinky lobster.
Crab
Im sorry but for me the goofy vibe stems mainly from the small head on top the original model. And you made that problem worse
Yea the head doesn't fit. Even with such a perfect paint job it looks wrong.
@@HomeSliceOfWhiteBreadWell at least the body of this version is more balanced with the head itself, because the original model looks like a head put in a box, in general the problem is that the head itself was not executed well, because if it is removed it would only be a spider/lobster I think there is really no way to solve the problem of the head without removing the essence of the model, perhaps integrating it into the body itself, making the torso itself the head, taking out the cannon from his mouth or something 🤔

yup came out earlyish in fourth and had rules in chaos 3.5 I think so what 2001 or 2002ish?
