A SLA (resin) 3D printer would go far. Initial investment is high (~$400 USD for a small 6.23" printer + wash/cure station), but one bottle (1kg, $25) of resin got me proxies of 4 combat patrols, 2 additional kill teams, an ork battlewagon, and a few decent sized terrain pieces.

    Some tips for Oyumaru.
It works best when you let the silicone sit in properly boiling water for a time. It'll become extremely soft and you can cast really great detail with it.
Second is using Miliput to capture the detail. It's softer, and has a much finer grit that Green stuff.
Either way, The work you did looks awesome.

From experience: UV resin with oyumaru will most likely cause issues, as it releases heat while curing, which will likely soften it and lose shape or detail. I used it once for some buttons and it was a mess.

Unironically, the two best starter armies are Knights and Custodes, primarily from a build and paint perspective.
A knight is two things: A metal body and panels that you can spray paint.
Custodes need a gold spray and res on the tassels.
Then it’s a matter of washes and a bit of trim, and you’re done - Guaranteed to look better than the paint caked metal minis that a lot of us started out with :)

I have commission painted dozens of Knights, for me the trick is definitely getting into a routine, I don't have to look at the instructions anymore so that saves time, I set myself a 1 sitting deadline for a Questoris or Dominus, my Cerastus and Acastus took a lot longer due to the amount of clean up and additional work needed with resin. . For Armigers I try to get 3 done per sitting. . I recently retired from comission work as it was spoiling my enjoyment of painting for myself. . I have over 100 imperial knights left paint in my collection so I have turned it into basically a production line. . I magnatize all the heads, shields and weapons so its easy to convert, swap out parts and add bits of extra details later.

And at the last moment I realized that I don't have the right magnets for the arms so it took 2 more days to get and mount those.

Fan theory, a couple of Ork Mekboys suffered head trauma and started to believe they were humans and so somehow they made it onto the design team for the Knight Castellan, they may have believed they were human enough to fool the other humans (or they didn’t want to argue with the seemingly friendly Orks) but they are still Orks so when discussing what weapons platforms they needed all they could think of was just add more shooty things because more shootas is always good.

The metal absorbs the color of the purplish pink warp section they were going thru, and comes out on the other side looking like this.

This is really awesome! Love the paint job and some extra parts on the shoulder pads. Would love to see a knight which looks like a real "Veteran" - a Freeblade like he had been battling for literally 10 thousand years like bullet marks, explosion marks, cuts, dents, bludgeon marks, scratched paints, etc... or even repaired or replaced parts and badges of honor. How epic it would look like.
I really appreciate your content and more power to your channel.

If you can get the UV cure resin to work with the thermal mold PLEASE let me know what mold release works for you! I have had no luck with that yet and I really want to put LED's inside a clear uv resin piece for my plasma guns :)

The comparison of new knight to Vader with two sabers and two sets of buttons had me rolling. The new knight looks like even the team couldn't stand it and made the 40K equivalent to a googly eye faced robot.

Hey, love the vid! Im considering buying an airbrush but would you recommend it over "traditional painting"?

    • @olly123451
      @olly123451 2 ปีที่แล้ว

As someone who recently bought an Airbrush, it definitely doesn’t replace Traditional painting, but what it does, you can’t do with anything else.
It’s wonderful for getting a beautiful coat including a highlight, but you’ll still need to get in there with the brush later on.

An Airbrush is a tool, not the be-all-end-all solution. It speeds up the process on stuff like basecoating and priming (you also not depending on the weather anymore regarding the latter). But certain things like details are not suitable for it. You can't brush the trim of the knight with it for example because it is not precise enough for it (you can try but you will become insane).
It also helps with the more difficult colours like yellow or white, because they are usually quite difficult to paint with a brush and get a smooth result.

like what everyone else said, it doesnt replace it. I mainly use mine for priming, base coats. I highly recommend getting the badger 105 due to them being low cost and very good

Honestly the Mechanicum Knight looks better in my opinion, but I can see where your coming from. I just love the dark and less saturated colors of it. It makes it look like it has seen some battles.

I added the chaos knight chainsword to my Castellan - looks super awesome in the Tyranid / Marine display shelf I created. I also added the Daredeo Dreadnought Boreas missiles (Forgeworld) to the top centre weapon - so it fills it all out better.

Cudos for the extra flags. I have a recommendation though. You can also use hardware store repair putty. It cures much faster and is way harder afterwards. Yet they are different in the amount of detail they are able to reproduce. You just have to experiment with this. I cloned weapons, arms and heads from this stuff with double press molds. Works fine, when you get the hang of it.
