Nice win. Those other players were quite annoying and cannibalized each other and Black really did not utilize his position well. But you did! Very well played my friend

Those discussions and negotiations at the beginning of the game were a bit bizarre and I agree that Black misplayed this from their perspective. I think they should've just taken the 5/10, double-up on the 9 Brick with the 3:1 Port, and take that 10/9/2 spot as quickly as possible.
Puts them in a really solid situation in terms of production (especially with cities on the board) and additional expansion opportunities towards the bottom left part of the island. Even if they don't take road or army this game they actually have a pretty straightforward path to victory.

Damn black and orange were so anoying this game. Black was to greedy not giving you the wheat and brick, he probably wanted a settlement and a city.
Yeah, this is one of those cases where "Greed" wasn't good! 😅
I think the biggest mistake Black made in the early game was the idea of going for the Brick port and plowing Orange, rather than simply taking the 5/10 and then quickly doubling up on the 9 Brick + getting on the 3:1 port.
If nothing else, the extra Wheat would be very helpful for them for future cities and development cards. They would actually have a pretty decent shot to take longest road through the centre of the board, but even if they can't compete for it they would at least settle on the 10/9/2 and have access to more settlement spots on the bottom left area of the board.
Nicely played TNG. It's hard to argue with success, but I think instead of the 6-3-11(ore), I think you should have taken the 6-3-11(sheep). That would have locked the 6 ore for you and black, and red would have had to go elsewhere. It also would have opened up the sheep port to you for all of your sheep. Or you could have built up to the 9 brick.
Locking the 6 Ore definitely makes sense but I think in this instance it was always going to be a struggle for me to expand without the Brick production - so having the extra Ore from the 11 was theoretically going to help me get an extra dev card (or two) and/or a quicker city at some point.
The struggle I had to put down that first road + settlement I think illustrates how hard it was likely going to be for me to get to the Sheep Port (needing 2 roads) or really anywhere else for that matter.
I really appreciate the feedback and the sharing of different ideas BTW. Always good to bounce things off of each other and try to analyse what may or may not work (in theory) and why...

@@TryNiceGames Yeah, it's always good to discuss strategy. Another thing that occurred to me is if you *had* blocked the 6, red would not have had that late game surge, and that would have left you as the focus of everyone's robber. As it was, red got the focus for a couple of turns and took the heat off of you. So it's not just first picks and fast development that wins, it's the dynamics of the whole game. Fun!
i think second settlement on 6-3-11 was better, because it locks away 6 ore.

I see what you're saying and it's definitely an interesting idea. I think in this instance it made sense for me to settle on some extra Ore with the 11 rather than the extra Sheep with the 11, since in this spot I already have a lot of Sheep production. Also, having a 3rd player on the 6 Ore isn't going to be too terrible for me since they'll help defend it (and never block it). 😉
Nice game! I think that Black had a promising position after placing the initial settlements, which then sacrificed by going after Orange.
Yeah, I thought Black had a great setup here as well.
You're making such a great point BTW. I think there are a lot of situations where players look for the moves that hurt someone else, rather than the moves that help them and are likely to give them the best chance to win.

There are cases where both of these agendas align, but in this specific situation I think Black should have been looking for the most direct path to victory:
> Settle the 5/10 (give yourself access to Trees)
> Get the 3:1 port.
> Get the 10/9/2.
> Upgrade to cities when you have the cards along the way.
The next video I'll be uploading is actually a great example of this. Everyone in chat is suggesting I plow people, and I'm just doing the most simple and straightforward things that also happen to improve my position the most.

At 35:40 I think you should've mono'd ore for the win, there's 2 question marks on ore so I think that implies at least 4 ores out there correct? Then 4:1 for wheat to city and win.
I'm pretty sure you're right but I needed to get at least 5 Ore from the other players. That would give me a total of 7 (since I only had 2) and allow me to 4:1
I knew there were 4, I just wasn't 100% sure there were 5...

Dude, everything is ok, but we need 1080p! Keep it on!
The problem I currently have with upgrading to 1080p is that my internet bandwidth isn't enough for streaming in 1080p, and there is no ISP that can do better where I currently live. Moving to a different part of Australia is something that my wife and I have been discussing, so maybe a few months down the line we can make it happen.

35:37... never ever should you have played a robber there. that was a big mistake, but luckily didn't cost you the game. besides, why you say there's not enough stone? you couldn't play the mono even if it was, after playing that robber. you should have mono the stone there without playing robber, and that would have been the game. gg anyways
I wasn't 100% sure there was enough Ore out there. I needed to steal 5 to be able to get the win with the mono, so moving the robber to free my Wheat made sense to me.
I'm basically talking to the people in the live chat who were (also) suggesting that I mono the Ore. They would have typed that suggestion before I used the Knight, so I'm explaining why I didn't use the mono that turn. 😉
@@TryNiceGames actually you're a bit right . when there are two question marks (??) it means there are a at least 6 cards in play. In this case, I guess you should have taken some time and look at the history of the dices and count if there are just 6 ores...
