@Izan TM sure but I have seen more than one video in which a pc started fire randomly. Just a few weeks ago someones gpu bursted in fire haha. Play it safe and not with fire. Cardboard and electricy doesn't fit together.. says your normal human mind
easiest and probably "best case" is still a motherboard packaging at all. I fitted a midclass blower style cpu cooler (which is also the only intake fan!) and a regular psu and a 3,5" HDD in such a package, only for GPUs a low profile card is needed or probably a bigger box, at least all my motherboards had barely the same size of packaging. I ended up with a GPU sticking out a bit of the box,but it was a damn nice small casing and also "portable" with the handles of the original box. Still all i needed was a more silent media PC and everything lying around was also no real option. Since everything fitted tight in the box, the cooling was also efficient since the only fan, the CPU fan blew air with more speed over the whole mainboard part.
And expanded rules and tooling. - Double-sided tape allowed, but penalized by a point for each use. That means long joins with tape are preferable. - Full complement of bolts, screws, and washers. Well, when I took some electronic engineering technology one of my professors quoted the K.I.S.S. rule, if Alex was an engineer, he should have thought of a "desktop" case with the components laying horizontal. Actually, both teams should have. I don't understand this obsession with building towers as towers don't really fit in entertainment systems as much as desktop computers and I was glad that my HP's Elite Desk system and even my older HP Compaq have the option of tower or desktop modes. The older one the drives could be swapped out and rotated 90 degrees without tools to flip from one orientation to the other.

I like how the fans on Linus' case either spin or light up. Also I kinda wish they did it without the time restriction so they could legitimately do their best.
Yeah, that's the main problem with the challenges they come up with, I want them to make it right instead of cobbling something together in the last 30 minutes just to be finished.
or just give them packing tape. It really wouldn't have ruined the video if it was covered in tape and was a much better case. for those of us not into slapstick comedy as much, the video would have been much better.

It will probably be fine. There really aren't any parts of the PC that come to close contact with the cardboard that would be hot enough to ignite it. Unless you somehow manage to create sparks, but that's not really cardboards fault at that point. According to the German transport information service: "Corrugated board is combustible and should therefore be protected from flying sparks. Smoking must be strictly prohibited. The fire point is 258°C, the ignition temperature 427°C."
and then he goes on to show how his cardboard case was secretly made of titanium and tells us we're stupid for thinking he'd take that risk... or something
There needs to be a part 2 of this, but this time, give the teams like a week and give them accress to tools around the shop. I think you guys could actually come up with some really creative cases.
I love Linus's use of the banker box design for his case. Banker boxes, if anyone has ever bought and put these together in an office are designed and made in the folding way to provide more stability to handle the weight of the papers. Nice Job ❤❤
I feel like they shouldve been given a whole day to plan and build this case, wouldve been a whole lot better in terms of content instead of arguing under time pressure and lowkey hating your partner. More time to build the case means we get to see their actual technical intellect and maybe even a vision of what they want cases to be like from companies.
I'd love to see a ghetto water block style video, where you actually take some time and effort to design the absolute best cardboard case possible, and do a sort of DIY that we can follow along with lmao

I'm just here for the replies.
Wth is going on in this comment?
2:56 Linus's marker sounds like a quill on paper lol wtf
i thought he was scratching it
I was looking for your comment. Nice. Btw, it's most likely to be the board itself doing the scratchy sound.
im just wondering how you know what a quill on paper sounds like
@@tankiisterr Movies/TV shows.
I think it's hilarious that they interviewed each other instead of having a random cast / crew read the "interviewer" lines. Nice touch that Linus asked the "Will Linus Cheat" question from a further distance so it sounded less like him
You need to do a revisit, allowing tape and more time. I would love to see how those work out
Tape would make it boring.
@@mycoinsyourpurse2244 totally disagree. I'd love to see some cool ideas if they could use glue, tape, and have a whole day to build it. I think some really creative cases could be DIY'ed
-My PC parts arrive in a large box -
'Huh, nice of them to have sent everything already in the case.'
True. or at least give more time.
@@vgamesx1 It's better with a time limit to make it more funny to watch!
Wait that isn't normal? I've got some rewiring I need to do
or just give them packing tape. It really wouldn't have ruined the video if it was covered in tape and was a much better case. for those of us not into slapstick comedy as much, the video would have been much better.
"The only problem is that I can only draw cows well"

@@kaustav51 never know the Italian government might ban all teams except ferrari alfa and haas to give the brand a boost lol
Honestly, a rematch of this would be *great*. It seems like they learned a lot, would be pretty cool to see what they could do with some hindsight :).
Every time they cut back to Linus and his whiteboard drawing of the proposed case, I was more and more lost and had more and more concerns. Then he made the thing and I was flabbergasted. I will never doubt him again.
Whoever did the editing/sound design for this, I am loving all the reality TV show sound effects (like the classic tension effect at 9:25). Really good subtle work! :D
I really got some American Kitchen Nightmares vibes from it, but I really loved it 😂!
@@DaSpookyNuts I am 90% sure that is where that particular sound effect is from, there are loads of little bits in the choices of music/effects that are full on reality TV lol
"Instead of front I/O there's a picture of it". I lost it right there.
That was my favorite line too. Just made me burst out laughing.
who even uses it anyway? i mean. besides a usb stick. even then i have a usb extender out the back to the front.
so its only for asthetics anyway.

Ok, so think about this:

$300 with vr support
and you can sell three different versions for ATX, micro ATX and eATX! more profit!

having a prancing horse on a pc that they thought was gonna be "poorly engineered, poorly made, and kinda just garbage." feels like a jab at ferrari

OMG! The *ALL-CARDBOARD PC* catches *fire due to over-heating!*
or more like water cooling the cardboard pc
That was what I thought from the beginning
It will probably be fine. There really aren't any parts of the PC that come to close contact with the cardboard that would be hot enough to ignite it. Unless you somehow manage to create sparks, but that's not really cardboards fault at that point. According to the German transport information service: "Corrugated board is combustible and should therefore be protected from flying sparks. Smoking must be strictly prohibited. The fire point is 258°C, the ignition temperature 427°C."

I was about to say, why do they sound crunchy?

I can't hahahahaha
I love Linus's use of the banker box design for his case. Banker boxes, if anyone has ever bought and put these together in an office are designed and made in the folding way to provide more stability to handle the weight of the papers. Nice Job ❤❤
I feel like they shouldve been given a whole day to plan and build this case, wouldve been a whole lot better in terms of content instead of arguing under time pressure and lowkey hating your partner.
More time to build the case means we get to see their actual technical intellect and maybe even a vision of what they want cases to be like from companies.
Exactly. This was a really cool idea to see what all amazing stuff they could do instead of making it a rushed cramped mess.
or a few days. lots of content can be pumped out
See, that would run the danger of actually being good content. Can't have that.
why not both? :)
