    CORRECTION!: The torque spec for the ARP damper bolt is 120 Ft Lbs, 90 is for the stock bolt.

    Thanks for the great series of videos. I’m about halfway through with a 1982 stock rebuild. Just a comment for some others to be careful not to install the crankshaft sprocket by itself first IF you are using the long dowel with a one piece eccentric on the front of the cam sprocket. If you do place the lower sprocket on first you will never be able to put the upper gear over that long dowel with the chain wrapped around the lower sprocket at the same time like he did in the video.

    Hi... I really needed a re-fresher on this. I aquired a very low mile miles 5.0L Explorer engine complete from a wrecker...I dismantled it then life happened and I am just now getting back to it. Its amazing the small details I had forgotten. Your re-assembly vids are the best out there ! Many thanks.

    Clean job, only thing I recommend is to install the damper first for centering purposes before torquing down the timing cover.

      Not a bad way to go but honestly if it matches flat on the bottom you should be good if the front plate is made correctly. Thanks for watching!

    Love the Chevy style water pump. Had to change one on an 84 Grand Marquis and I'm pretty sure Ford hung the water pump on a chain and built the car around it. My 79 Firebird on the other hand with a Chevy 305 got changed out in about 30 minutes on the side of a busy road at Ole Miss.

    The damper defines the final position of the timing cover. It should be installed before tightening the cover bolts

  • @BradM766
    @BradM766 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Two questions.
    1. If we were just rebuilding a stock 302, when you installed the electric water pump, is that the time we would install the regular water pump?
    And 2. If I purchase that particular damper you have, do I have to buy other parts to go along with it? Or would I be better off buying a regular OEM style damper? I’m doing a base rebuild.

    What "contact cement" spray are you using on one side of the gaskets? I have previously used the copper gasket spray, and am wondering which of these two would likely make the most leak-proof seal?

    Noticing you never checked for cam endplay? I’m installing the same timing set (based in this video recommendation). Noticing there is zero endplay as compared to the factory single cam sprocket, which has some endplay. Curious if yours had any play at all….

    Hey Ryan or fellow moderators of this account. I’ve been following your guides for a few months now in the process of building a 302. I have a quick question, I’ve done plenty of research and have heard so many different things and want to get your opinion. I plan on getting a lightweight flywheel maybe 15 pounds or so. The counter weight stuff has confused me with the damper. So my question is if I were to run a lightweight flywheel. What kind of damper should I use? I was reading about the 28 oz and a 50 oz. My block and rotating assembly are from a 72. Thanks!

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there thank you so much for watching! Just make sure you get an internally balanced crankshaft, damper, and flywheel for integrally balanced cranks and you should be made in the shade. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask, I try to get to all of them but we get a lot of comments lol

  • @scottr.9316
    @scottr.9316 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey...GREAT VIDEO...question...would the reason for the longer dowel in the end of the camshaft be for a fuel pump eccentric? And the shorter one be for if you were to be running an electric fuel pump? Thanks!!

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching! Yeah that is a good point. I want to say that is likely. We were never going to run one so I didn't even consider it. Just thought maybe different timing sets were thicker.

    • @stevehardin2186
      @stevehardin2186 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m in the middle of a rebuild and the answer is that the long dowel typically is for the one piece eccentric while the short dowel would be for a two-piece eccentric because it has a tab that goes inward. I also discovered that you cannot put the smaller crankshaft sprocket on first if you’re using the long dowel. You have to put them on at the same time with the chain already lined up on each of them.
