    Just a quick little video to highlight the differences between the F22 and the F35 as always keep in mind the F35 wasn't really built to dogfight in the traditional sense so its not its fault it gets smoked in dogfights, if an F35 has merged many many mistakes have been made, as always keep in mind these are just mods and don't represent the TRUE capabilities of these highly classified aircraft.

    Hey GS, usually for the sake of anonymity, I just leave witty TH-cam algorithm comments. But instead I wanted to drop a better line. I'm a former USAF intelligence analyst. Namely in the field of fighter tactics. I've given a lot of briefs to pilots, and trained other air crew on the same subjects. Just wanted you to know that being able to watch your content has filled a huge void left by my departure from the military. Thanks for that, and thanks for your knowledge and professionalism. Not to mention that over the last 40 years, high-g turning dogfights have been extremely rare and are going to get rarer with the F-35 sensor fusion and modern IFF/data links. It’s far more important to be low observable and have high SA than be able to turn inside another aircraft. Of course, the F-22 can do ALL of those.

    I dunno if this has already been mentioned, but the ability for the F-35 pilot to shoot missiles off boresight thanks to their helmet mounted displays and the plane's distributed aperture system might mean that the F-35 doesn't necessarily need to turn into its target to get a missile lock, and it's possible the F-22 might have the same capabilities in the future.

      So I worked with armament in the USAF, and I can confirm that’s not an F-35 exclusive. The capability exists on the F-15’s, F-16’s and the F-22’s as well because it’s just a link between the JHMCs system and the AIM-9X. I think that was the acronym, but basically it’s just the helmet paired with the AIM-9X’s camera.

    I think what a lot of people don't understand about the F-35 is that it was designed to be a node in a distributed system. GS was kind of making this point. Yes, a lone F-35 would get absolutely creamed in a one-v-one with an F-22. However, that's not how it was designed to fight. If a (admittedly fantastical, never gonna happen) hostile F-22 managed to get that close to an F-35, it would be seconds away from being creamed by another F-35 or (eventually) a missile truck drone. The F-35 is a sensor/network package first, weapon system second. It's designed for a world where the targeting system is on one aircraft, the weapon is on another, and the engagement authority is yet somewhere else.

  • @mxaxai9266
    @mxaxai9266 3 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    The F-35 is said to have excellent sensor fusion and its special helmet, which results in improved situational awareness of the pilot. I think this is not quite modeled in DCS, or at least not as impactful as it probably is in real life. Even if the F-35 loses every single merge, the technology should enable the pilot to avoid such situations entirely.

Japan was also given a chance to acquire a downgraded export variant of the F-22, but they were uninterested in helping to develop what was basically a watered down F-22. The UK and Israel have extremely strong ties with the US. I gotta say this tho, the F-35's capabilities in this video were nerfed as he was carrying the AIM-9M in the video, let him have the 9X which is what the F-35 would really carry, and let him use off boresite as it would be his only way to defend against the F-22

    • @starbase218
      @starbase218 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Only thing about that is the F-35 can't actually carry any AIM-9 in a stealth configuration. The Sidewinder's seeker head needs to see its target to lock on before launch. With the F-22 that's possible as it has special bays with rails that extend and angle the Sidewinder outwards. The F-35 OTOH needs to carry the AIM-9s on wing pylons.
      I've been wondering about this. I mean, block 4 F-35s are supposed to be able to carry 6 AMRAAMs. I don't know how realistic DCS is (I don't play it myself, just here to watch GS and learn stuff), but quite often radar-guided missiles seem to be easy to defend against. It's good to get a guy to be defensive, I guess, but wouldn't internally carried AIM-9s increase the lethality of the F-35? Just wondering.
      But I guess nobody actually knows how realistic DCS is wrt the F-35 and F-22 (and possibly other types).

Why would the US military export planes with better avionics than its air superiority fighter? This is why the US military is apprehensive about Japan's tactical fighter program, they want to use the yf-23 airframe but it would basically have f-15j and f-35 avionics. Interesting. I never knew the roles of the 22 and 35 were so different.

    The F-35 was designed to be a universal aircraft with next to no interesting tricks. It’s an aircraft known for problems and lack of ability against the F-22. What is little known is that the XF-23 has had a renaissance from air force brass. It looks as if a newly revamped version might see the sky’s in 2025. The F-22 will also see a complete overhaul from armament to avionics. And, if that wasn’t enough, the new F-16 will also be built to replace older models. The B-52 finally gets new engines and a complete upgrade to flight avionics. The F-15 is an ongoing upgradable airframe. It too will see some cutting edge improvements. It’s the only fighter aircraft that can have an entire wing sheered off and still manage to land. The A-10 has found it’s second wind and is not canceled. What’s being discovered is the cost of entirely new aircraft from conception to the air is so costly that it makes more sense to extend and improve the life of existing airframes.

      at this point it would be cheaper to design the successor with the last 20 years of technological improvements than restarting old production while trying to update 23 year old design.

      if he was wondering he should have asked me, and in the video he said it very "matter of fact" so he was deff trying to say I was using a different mod, it wasn't a question lol. I appreciate you trying to look at it in a positive way, but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

    The f22 may always be my favorite fighter jet, but they did the f35 dirty in dcs. While it would still be outperformed by the f22, it should realistically have much better maneuverability than displayed here.

    Jesus, that insane turn rate. I remember playing wing commander back in the day and that looks exactly like when you go from flying the banshee which is alright in it's way to flying the dragon and it's like, oh, I've hit late game and you can suddenly take on full squadrons with ease where a pair of fighters could mess you up early game.
