You were flying with your navigational lights on, the entire fight. Minor thing, but you mentioned it as the sign that the opponent has given up. Still an entertaining video. Kudos.
I remember being a little kid in the early 90's when Desert Storm started. The news videos of the AAA firing into the sky at night is something I'll never forget.
I was just in...what I guess is sort of 'Technical High School' at that time. Remember the teachers letting us listen to a transistor radio in class. It was buzzing everywhere...'It has begun...shit actually has hit the fan'.
Keeping with the desert storm theme you've been doing lately, personally I think it'd be very cool to do an F-117 mission evading anti air, radar, and enemy planes to deliver just two bombs on an HVT. Food for thought
“The closest thing out there to someone killing an F-15”…unless you count the time when one F-15 shot another F-15 with an AIM-9 up in Alaska(around 1990-91). That one also made it back safely. I believe there’s a Stars and Stripes article still floating around. Pretty robust aircraft.
GS, when you "read" or listen "between the lines" of F-15C pilots during Desert Storm - and they will never flat out tell you due to the classified operations of the F-15Cs - is they ingressed @ 55,000+ ft and close to Mach 2 or above. We've been told for decades the altitude of the "Wall of Eagles" is 30,000ft. Contrast with with interviews of ..."high 50's". I don't think you can get the F-15C in DCS to 55,000+ feet however, I think you can get the F-15E to this altitude and most likely you'd need to be above Mach 2. One F-15C pilot stated he got the f-15C with 3 tanks to Mach 1.8 "up high". Clean off the jet with only 8 missiles and Mach 2.0 @ 55K ft is plausible. One pilot stated he got the Eagle out to Mach 2.35 @ 30,000 ft with 8 missiles and a centerline tank. Just some interesting "intel" from reading many books and listening to what pilots don't say in many interviews. Cheers and Merry Christmas from Edmonton.
There was a captured battle plan to lure away our mig cap and shoot down either the AWACS or Rivet Joint. They actually pulled it off during Operation Southern Watch. A MIG 25 got within 30 miles of the RJ. It never shot a missile luckily. We then commenced Operation Desert Fox which took out more of their air assets and from then on we didn’t have many problems RC135 Crew Chief. 92-00 Desert Storm Southern Watch
About 20 years ago during Exercise Maple Flag at CFB Cold Lake, a CF-5 "killed" an F-15. Nobody believed it till the CF-5's gun camera film was processed and reviewed... there in the crosshairs was a F-15, the CF-5 pilot got a kill credit, he also managed to over stress the CF-5, but hey, a kill is a kill. As you said, never under estimate your enemy.
GS to base - "Growling Santa RTB. Winchester on gifts, dispensed lumps of coal and missile toe to 8 naughty elves in our no-fly zone. Merry Christmas to everyone else!" Base to Growling Santa - "Roger that. And a Happy New Year to you! Appreciate all you do to keep our skies friendly."
Desert Storm is my personal favourite conflict to study and read about, so it's a treat to see the aerial conflict simulated in DCS World. I wish we'd treat the vets better, though. Keep up the great work!
Thank you buddy :) This one is currently sat with the moderators, and I assume they’re doing christmas things so expect it to go live 26th+. Happy Christmas
7:06 Samurra really rolled a Nat-1 during that fight before rolling a Nat-20 on survival. Despite the overall reliability of the Aim-7 being substantially improved by 1991 with the Aim-7M and MH, an astonishing 3/4 of his Sparrows failed sequentially to either come off the jet or light, with the 4th finally working. Samurra would have otherwise shot first, but the discrepancy allowed for quite the time gap between his shot and his opponents, allowing the R-40 shot at him to hit first, though it was a proxy hit. Claims of a shootdown were never really substantiated, though I can guess that repair job wasn't easy. F-15 survivability on display once again.
Great video GS, top 1%! This is pretty close to IRL action. Eagle pilots were indeed told not to turn with MiG-29s, but at least one did anyway. The Fulcrum driver went around and around and finally did a split-S and punched out just before the plane hit the ground. Eagle pulled 12 Gs at one point though IIRC. In general though, usual story. Russian crap was all hype and US stuff (MiG-29 flight controls were full of bob-weights, springs, pulleys & impossible to keep in trim, uuuugh) was understated - at least for a day or two. Not sure about the Mirage, but Dan Hampton didn't have much respect for them.
According to Iraqi sources, no MiG-29 crashed due to pilot error… in fact, what happened was, on the 19th of January (third day of Desert Storm) an Iraqi MiG-29 with captain Jameel Sayhood at the controls, took off and immediately engaged a fomation of RAF (British) Tornados that were ready to bomb the very airfield he scrambled from… After successfully bringing down one of the intruders, captain Sayhood was asked by GCI to help a fellow MiG-29 that was also airborne and couldn’t shake off American F-15s… That MiG-29 was flown by a guy named Khasim if I remember correctly… The story goes that Americans launched missiles at him and he performed a Split-S and recovered just in time… It is possible that a missile detonated which made the Americans think it was a MiG fireball… Anyhow, Jameel responded to GCI’s call and they vectored him towards the F-15s… on his way towards the designated area, Jameel suddenly received an indication on his RWR that he was being targeted; looking outside he could actually see two trailes… he performed a 9G maneuver and defeated one of the missiles; but the second one got him and he was forced to eject, upon which he broke his leg and was rescued by local beduins… This story has been confirmed by the independent Austrian military expert Tom Cooper.
Hey, very nice videos, always brightens up my days. i would wanna get into DCS, but i'm kinda poor :,(, but if you see and wanna do this, i would wanna see you fly the Mig-19 again :)
Brother, it's not too late to do a Santa Sleigh escort video! The tracker shows him near Pyongyang right now, he's gonna meet some S-400 resistance out there. He may need some Raptor support!
The closest of an Eagle being shot down was Bekka Valley in 1982, when an Eagle lost a motor to an Atol, fired from a Mig-21. The Eagle lost power on its other engine as well, made it back to base, and the aircraft later flew again.
When I asked what plane you would want if you couldn't pick the F-22...now I know why you picked the F-15. I thought for sure you would have picked the F-16 though at the time.
Hey GS, you ever consider how many phone/ipad/computer screens you indirectly clean? I get pissed when I’m trying to pick out bogies and it’s just a speck of dusk. 😂
It makes me laugh how just before saying that you can never underestimate your enemy, you just got finished talking about how you're going to get a kill with all the different weapons types. 😮😅😅
8:18 Very True, I was recently watching a podcast by a former US Army ISA (military intelligence) guy named Adam Gamal on the team house youtube channel. He described going behind enemy lines and infiltrating enemy terr0rists using seripticious entry methods. Underestimating your enemy is one of the worst things you can do.
Would be something to see this kind of mission from the Iraqi perspective. MiG-21, MiG-29 or Mirage F1 taking on the Coalition armada would be a serious challenge, even with lots of AAA/SAMs to retreat back to.

Merry Christmas GS!!
How many flight hour's on DCS you have altogether? You make it look effortless 👍 😊

I remember this as well, it blew my mind.
A friend of my wife’s husband flew tornadoes in that conflict. Night ops at 50 ft above the deck. Nuts
Have just uploaded one of those missions :)

What a gift! A stalled Immelmann turn is exactly what NOT to do in a MiG-25. 🌲
The F15 sure does have some power.
That sunset made things kind of interesting too.

Did one of those missions on Jane’s ATF it was great
Gosh that’s a blast from the past!
First to acknowledge.. since I spent time in that combat theater back in the day…. Would see F-16s above my head escorting B-52’s.. surreal 🐫 ☀️

I had never heard of that! Gotta look it up!
@ I tried attaching a link. YT didn’t like it. Just search “f-15 shoots f-15 Alaska”. There are a number of articles. March 1990.
Is that the one where the F15 landed with only 1 wing?
@kenny240 that was an Israeli F15 that had a midair with (I believe) an A4 during ACM.
@@MattH-wg7ouYep. Just flew home to land, be repaired and fly again.

You can get F-15C in DCS to at least 60k feet at M2, higher I didn't try.

great video - amazingly beautiful map

F15 of all variants are my favorite aircraft, I just wish they had the open canopy type cockpit like the f16.
Now you gotta do a stealth mission with the F-117 Stealth and B2 Bombers. Night missions only though
that last mig had a pucker factor
Not the plane, but the pilot. But damn, the Eagle makes it easier.
Keep up the great work
