Anything can kill anything, but if you can get 2 people of equal kill and who understand the concepts of BFM and HOBS Dogfight the F-22 will dominate and that was made very clear in the tacview with the numbers we see there, its hard to argue the F-22 wouldn't win this fight every single time, ok guys thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed and I'll see you in the next one, much love.

Just a suggestion. You are both of course capable but after having the F-22 win 2 or 3 times, I would suggest switching planes. Maybe (no disrespect) one is a better fighter pilot. If you took the 22 and win the next couple matches would demonstrate your point better in my opinion.

Don't worry, the F-35 obliterated the Gripen in testing recently in both bvr and visual range dogfighting when Finland was deciding what to buy. The F-22 basically enjoys a free meal
@Drew Peacock the F-35 has one of the most advanced EW suites ever fitted into an aircraft. It can jam and trick enemy EW suites, block the MAWS, etc. It wasn't rigged in the slightest. The Gripen just isn't up to par
@Drew Peacock yeah dude they rigged their own test and chose a supposedly “worse” jet (which is clearly better than the Gripen) that just doesn’t make any sense. Just absurd to think a Swedish 4.5 Gen aircraft can beat an American 5th Gen jet, just absurd.
The Gripen is amazing for what it is, a small, low cost, reliable multi-role fighter. It can *almost* keep up with its more expensive multirole counter parts, and factoring in the cost that makes it incredibly impressive. But what it isn't, is a 5th gen killing air superiority fighter, and that shows here. Its an excellent aircraft for what it is, but it isn't a raptor killer, it was never designed to be! An aircraft with that capability would be far outside the budget for the Gripen.
I wonder if a few upgrades to its technology etc if it could put up a more of a closer fight.

The Gripen is one of the most overrated modern fighters. No combat history, very modest flight characteristics, mediocre weapons and carrying capacity. Euro-chiqueness and being Swedish is the only thing it has going for it (esentially just good marketing from Saab)

I have worked at Amberley airbase, Australia.
I can recall a few years back when Aus was doing an exercise with the US and we had a bunch of F22's here as part of the thing.
Long story short, I was on base working when a flight of F22's returned. The turn to get to the runway alignment was just above my head. I was watching a plane come around in an easy turn as they always do to get to where they should be.
I can only assume the pilot was watching me and wanted to show off.
He proceeded to do what I can only describe as a power slide that changed his trajectory by at least 40 degrees in the space of a second.
I was stunned beyond words.
I was used to seeing FA18 Supers perform all sorts of maneuvers over the base (they practice the upcoming airshows there) and sure it was low speed, but I was absolutely astonished at the incredible agility of this one maneuver.
Also praise lord GS for the humiliation and suffering he endured to make this video getting killed again and again in the Gripen XD

The way the F22 moves.....I've not been into Flight Sims for a loooooong time, but compared to things like the F16 and F18, that F22 just looks like something from another planet. Amazing!

Despite where the nose is pointing it actual did look like the plane was rotating faster than the actual turning radius. I admit this could make the g-load worse also as you start calculating loads by vectors.
@@duanesamuelson2256 Yes if the F22 pilot blacks out due to his extreme G-turnig manuvers he would probably get shot down. Another factor might be due to wich speed the aircraft is at when sharper turns are used. If this is the case a pilot using a 4th generation fighter vs an F22 might level his chanses in higher speeds, rather than the usual, slower dogfighting speeds?
I don't now, just brainstorming a little...

Oh, man, don't even get me started on the F-35...
Chances you you might already know, but if you don't, do you want to know something that will make you even more unhappy? Rumsfield came out and said that the reason they greenlit the YF-22 over the YF-23 was because the United States Navy expressed interest in the Advanced Tactical Fighter program and because the YF-22 would be easier to navalize and make a carrier variant of than the YF-23. After the YF-22 won? The Navy went, "Nah, we're not interested" and went on to dump billions of dollars into the A-12 Avenger... which literally never had anything built or flown.
And, of course, we all know that the F-22 production line shut down because we had to pay for the F-35. Yet some people still try and claim it wasn't...
The whole idea behind the F-35 and how it was "sold" to the government and military was "it's too expensive to design and build multiple airframes for each service." Which sounds... dodgy. And, of course, it wasn't true. With the cost of the F-35's development and unit price we could have easily built 3 separate airframes (maybe with some increased parts commonality to help with logistics) that would've been the same price or cheaper and not have the design compromised to fit 3 different services and roles.
I'd like to imagine a world where the F-35 didn't happen and they kept making and buying F-22s and just updated/upgraded the F-15/F-16 fleet and with the cost savings also started making an upgraded new manufacture A-10 series. And, as much as I love the Harrier, the USMC did need a more capable upgrade. The Navy seems to be going along just fine with the Super Bugs, and honestly, after the A-12 fiasco I don't really trust them having sole ownership of any fighter development in this day and age.
I happened to be driving in Marietta, GA back in 98 and watched this jet take off, go completely vertical and disappear. Then it came back in low and bolted. It was an F22. 3 years before it was introduced. I was no more than
200 yards away and had no idea what I was looking at.

I’ve lived on an Air Force base with F22s, so we saw them a lot. I swear their turns are frickin unreal, the best way to win a fight versus them, is to not engage and run away.
You can't even out run the damn thing that's the problem. The f-22 gets you on radar and youre basically done. No way you're evading 2.25 mach.

@@kelvinkudirical1438 I am a Gripen fan but I know very well that the Gripen can't beat thrust vectoring in a dogfight. If Gripen is to have any chance it would have to be in a Beyond Visual Range fight. But even then I doubt Gripen stands a chance against the F22 Raptor.
If it was Gripen E it might be a different story but I still think it would be a very difficult fight for Gripen. Would def be more interesting tho. (In Beyond Visual Range that is).

@@SonnyKnutson stealth, and supercruise would definitely aid the F22. I understand stealth isn't invisibility but it definitely reduces the range at which the enemy can detect, and track you. Both of which are important to bvr. The low probability of intercept radar would also make the F22's attacks harder to detect and as a result harder to survive.

I have no idea if there’s a mod out there for the YF-23 but that vs the F-22 would be a sick battle to see
The YF-22 was more maneuverable than the YF-23 which had lower RCS. So unless it's a BVR fight, the F-22 should wax it.
Black Widow would still hold the high cards in stealth, speed, climb rate, and energy retention. Getting your sneks to growl at the heat-tile shielded engines could be a challenge as well.
Every plane can be an energy fighter, or a maneuver fighter, relative to what it is facing.
If we bring the F-22 back to ATF-era tech, it'll murder the YF-23 in dogfights (maneuverability, bit smaller/lighter too) and get murdered BVR (slower, worse RCS). If we put current F-22 against YF-23? no contest.

@@myusername3689 I don't mind being corrected but being 'well actually'd I don't enjoy. The F-22 is more maneuverable at low speeds due to thrust vectoring (and slightly better wing loading). What speeds do dogfights happen at? Especially with the assumed turn rates and weapons involved, no decent F-22 driver would opt for a med-high speed rate fight, they'd force it low-speed one circle. If you're going to correct someone, get it right.
Look Boss GS, you've got to understand most of us (all of us) are laughing at the futility of this fight. However ALL of us know the frustration you were going through and for that we are eternally grateful. At least I was. Bet I can hear Longshot laughing back there.

It might be really interesting to see the format where you and the other pilot swap jets after 2 rounds. That will allow folks to see if it's just a case of the jet being better or if it's the skill of the pilots that's ruling the day. Just a thought and once again, I really appreciate all the amazing content that you are putting out.
Yeah, the people saying the JAS39 can outperform the F-22 in a 1v1 are fucking high. The F22 was built for high performance, the JAS39 was built to be an economically viable multirole fighter that literally costs less than half that of the F-22.

What's worse is most of the time, you'll never see the F22 that kills you. LPI radar, stealth, AWACS lurking 100km behind. As one Raptor pilot said, "like seal clubbing in a barrel..." But that thrust vectoring... wow...
Actually if your bringing in the Gripens strong suit (radar jamming & detection) the playing field gets more equal , however it would still most likely result into the F22 just having to gun down Gripen.

There was a test bench F-22 about 5 years after it was deployed where engineers tried new wings. The test pilot came back saying the G force he was experiencing were far far to extreme, and would damage the airframe, and would black out the pilot.
g forces affecting pilot and airframe isnt new been around since ww2 props

Given the two main versions of the Gripen are the JAS-39C and JAS-39E. Both are significantly different, this simulation is just a guess of performance of one of those. For every 100 hours of flight time in a F-22, the Gripen can afford 700 hours.

It's laughable that the Gripen, the Rafale, the Typhoon, the Su-35, Su-57 would ever beat the Raptor in a dogfight, be it BVR or WVR, there's a reason we don't export this freak show of a fighter jet.

From inside, and outside, and moving, I get the feeling that the 22 is more space-craft than atmos-craft - which is stupid because it's the best fighting atmos vehicle ever made - that's it's function! But it's just so.... futuristic. It looks the part and is as lethal as it looks.amazing.
If you think that looks futuristic. You should see the Strike Raptor the F-22's lost cousin. Look up FB-22. The Air Force is thinking about reviving the program and turning the F-22 into a multirole fighter-bomber since the standard F-22 is a niche type of fighter.

Swedish Gripen fanboy here, I hope my stance isn't too controversial, but here goes. I think a match-up of multiple aircraft of each type, where the number of each is limited by cost could possibly favor the Gripen. Say each team has X hundred million, or a few billion dollars to spend, and they "buy" as many F22/Gripen as they can for that sum, then fight squadron vs squadron. The strengths of Gripen is its low cost and good networking/cooperation abilities, a squadron of Gripens is more than the sum of its parts. I think such a scenario would at least even the playing field a fair bit, if it doesn't favor Gripen...
Now, fanboys saying Gripen reliably wins 1v1 against the F22 are either delusional, or count on great differences in pilot skill, luck or other extreme circumstances. The F22 was built to be the greatest fighter of its time, no matter the cost, Gripen is a multi-role aircraft, not even designed to compete directly with an F22!

Only now I'm realising how hard the F-22 sh*ts on basically everything aside from the most modern weapons in the world, western or otherwise, and its full capabilities aren't even publicly known. Like, watching someone try to fight it is almost as sad as it is amusing. And that's almost a 20 year old aircraft if you don't count the development time.

I think it’s safe to say that IF the planes are flying similar to reality, these two bring more accuracy in the pilot department than any other youtubers would 🤷🏻♂️
at the end of the day the aircraft are mods and can't be considered accurate because theyre mods but regardless of that, even with the current models the F-22 should never lose if you know what you're doing and I think we did a great job proving that in the tacview with numbers like that you can see why the F-22 should never lose. I don't know what other guys are doing on other channels but I can say if the F-22 is losing, theyre doing something wrong.
