    Kymco is rock solid. Two year warranty. They also sold a millions engines or more to Honda (not only BMW)... The Kymco People GT 300i I have (2016) pulls from 15 mph to over 80 mph (haven't been over 80 as the scooter is still in the break in phase). 16" tires give a smooth ride and she is getting about 65 mpg, with me riding her at 60 to 70 mph all the time. Fit and finish are certainly equal to what the Japanese manufacturers are producing... The Downtown (seen in this video) shares the same engine as my ride, the People Gt 300i... Bergman 400 may offer a bit more than all of these; but the price tag is thousands above these. I researched these (in the video) for a year before buying. The Kymco is the "Value" leader IMO.

      Thanks for that.
      I am very surprised to read that the quality of the Kymco is high and that Kymco has sold engines to Honda - the Honda that is famous for the engines it makes.
      Man, is that for real?

      Yes, for the most part of Kymco and SYM corporate history they built COMPLETE MOTORCYCLES(CB125, CD125) and put Honda logos on them and ship them all over the world. Search SYM Wolf, that's the exact same bike you can buy 50 years ago as a Honda.

    The Honda scoot looks the coolest and you can count on it's reliability. However, when I used to be a part of the scooter world the Kymco scoots had a good reputation on the scooter forums and riders loved them and said they were pretty reliable.

    I ride an older Kymco xciting 250RI with the dual front disc brakes. This older engine was replaced with the 300 engine in this test. I found that the intake is seriously choked down, perhaps to meet emission regulations. So I drilled four .250" dia holes in the filter housing and this made a huge difference in the performance of the bike. The Kymco recommended tire pressures are on the low side and the factory tires just plain suck. I went to Michelins and run higher air pressure. With the holes in the airbox, the better tires and slightly higher tire pressure the scooter handles much better on twisty roads. You have to get used to not having gears to slow the bike down and on twisty roads under hard braking the bike will understeer so you have to plan your turns.
    Kymco still needs to upgrade some of their materials, especially the waterproof jacketing of the wiring harness and I also used numerous tiewraps to hold the harness in place better. For the price, the Kymco is hard to beat and the drivetrain has no issues at all, except as I noted. I cover large distances on this bike often as much as six or seven hours continuous riding and find it huge fun, much better than my large 650 street bike which is going to find a new owner soon.

    I know this vid is a year old, but for future reference, and this goes for all bikes and scooters, could you all please comment on seat comfort as well. The thing is, not everyone can go take a new bike for a day of riding before we buy it. If there is ( like in this comparison ) a particular model that is unanimously bad, , , or great, , , it would be good to know. Love your vids and have watched every one of them.

    Got the 2014 Forza (used with only 2000 miles on it!)this year and no one views it as a scooter. The average person is convinced it's a motorcycle.
    I love it. Good gas mileage, nice under seat storage, can keep up with traffic on the highway, and has a sporty style to it.

      I’m leaning towards the Forza, I now ride a 155 cc Yamaha s max scooter, need a little more speed. Also seems the Forza lets you choose where to put your feet. Feet under your butt or knee or way in front, stretch out. My Yamaha only lets me sit one way, same with bv Piaggio. 330 ccSame with my 150 cc Piaggio fly. My burg man 400, years ago had legroom too, I loved that scooter, I’m 66 . Had big bikes. 100 hp. But now I don’t need to go zero to 50 in two seconds. My old 83 Honda v four, Magna 65 cu inch fast bike, I got so many tickets, had to sell it. But yes Bergman has 38 hp, by Piaggio 330 has 33 hp.,, the others have only 22 hp or 24. , but 70 mph is enough, for me.

      I bought a used Forza and now have ridden over 3k miles on it. I have rode it all over the freeways and can do 70-72mph all day long. I think its a scooter that has been overlooked somehow. You are correct you can stretch your legs out on this scoot or feet right under you. I will never sell this scooter.

    Something I learned, when the the left rear brake lever is pulled, you will hear 2 clicks from the brake lever switch, the 1st click is the brake light and the 2nd click is the start Inhibitor, the Forza will start right up...

    I'm over six four and I fit on the Citycom comfortably. That is uncommon with scooters, even big ones. Also the floppy front is due to a poor choice of front tire. A Michelin on the front solved that problem. I did 3300 km in the mountains of British Columbia in a weeks ride and with the good weather protection it was fun. When I was riding, I rode it more than my big bikes.

      I think that would be an awesome experience to have here in the states. I currently ride a 2011 Vespa 150ie LX. I live in Central California. Its top speed is 65, but it cruises 55-60 comfortably. All my co workers are Harley Davidson motorcycles riders.
      I prefer style, great mpg and twist and go over having a clutch. I will admit though that I am the only one around with one. I haven't seen another Vespa around my city in a Looong time. It would be nice to see some Vespas or scooters for that matter. Suzuki burgman is what I see around here and Honda PCX. But Vespa.. I'm a lone wolf Rider.

      I think a lot of that may be because of the population difference between our countries. It's simply much easier to fit a lot of smaller vehicles on the roadways. Also, scooters are much more affordable than large vehicles. I would like to see more motorcycles and scooters on the road here.

    Difference in power between the lowest powered (Vespa) and the highest powered (Piaggio) scooter here is literally 50%, and it wasn't mentioned even once. There's a huge performance difference between some of these scooters. All of them being in the 300cc category means very little. This review to me says "yeah, they're all scooters, they're all good, buy what you like". Wish you'd put some more effort into it.

(/sarcasm) Do we really have to waste time with "reviewers" being amazed how you can actually ride a scooter on a highway? Not to mention absurd statements like "the Vespa can go 85-90 mph"... on what planet? Or nuggets like "it can zip around town and go to the store." No, really? Imho ABS is very important for any motorcycle and small displacement scooters usually target newer riders, so that's a plus for the Vespa. It is also the most iconic and stylish. That being said its price goes dangerously close to serious commuter bikes like the CB500 and NC750. If you just want a small scooter for transportation, get the cheapest one. If you really want a nice small scooter I think it's the Vespa vs. Forza - classic vs modern. Otherwise just get a CB500 - it won't get much worse mpg and is a real motorcycle.

    I had a 2007 Vespa gt250i. It looked just like the blue one that they had here except mine was red. I had a top speed of 96 mph but it began to become unstable at that speed. Which really no one needs to be going that fast on a scooter anyway. I was on the interstate and just wanted to see what it would do. The motor is awesome on that thing especially considering it's size. It was a lot of fun to ride and I was getting about 65 to 70 mpg. The only thing I didn't like about it was the seating position. It was to short for me and I'm only 5'9". I had to slide my butt back onto the passenger part of the seat to stretch out my legs. That's going on a fairly long ride about 100 miles or so. If you were only going around town it would be fine.

      Yes, basically? I'm european, so very used to seeing these around. In fact, when i was a kid, i had several of them. I haven't owned a scooter since i was 16, but have driven many, either from friends but especially for work, either deliveries or just for going about in town. Dude, for european cities, small scooters are the bomb. The fact that you don't have to shift gears makes them a peach around town. These bigger ones are for people that want something a little bit larger and more powerful for commuting, as they're as powerful as another motorcycle with a conventional gearbox, but users don't have to worry about shifting when hitting traffic. A lot of people just have a scooter as their motorcycle and they use them as any other motorcycle. The fact that it's a CV transmission makes it more appealing to some people, not less. Not for me, but i can see the appeal in comfort and practicality.

      @@tristane4867 Even 400cc would be nice, since the S300 is really 278cc (a bit less on the older pre-S models. I've been interested in the CityCom for quite a while. the only thing that's stopped me from buying one is that the only dealer anywhere close to me is an hour away and they don't actually have anything SYM in stock except for the signs on the showroom walls. If you ask about the CityCom they look at you strangely and try to sell you an $8500 Vespa. I could never depend on them for SYM parts or warranty work. I do have KYMCO dealers nearby but KYMCO has stopped selling the People 300 (and the Xciting 400) here in the US.

    Scooter prices seem way off. You can get a grom for the price of a ruckus, or a ktm Duke 390 for cheaper than a vespa. The storage on these bikes is much better than their motorcycle equivalent, and having no clutch is what some folks prefer.
    Some day here, honda will bring out an all electric scooter. That's what is really needed I think. I'm sure it's in the works.

    I wish, that English speaking youtubers would use metric measurements.

    • @Spanky8402
      @Spanky8402 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand standard better because of carpenter work in the past but everyone else uses metric and it's a far more easier way to learn. I kinda agree with you, for that reason. I have to get my metric tape measure out cause I am so used to standard measurements, that I have a hard time judging the size in my mind. It took me 1 youtube video to understand metric but it took me studying and a construction class to understand standard measurements. 16th, 8th, quarter, half, and 1 inch, compared to counting each line for millimeters and 1 centimeter is just each big line with a number, similar to the inches. Metric can be learned just by saying that. 1 meter is 3 feet, so that's easy for me to judge the size in my head. I think we should all go by 1 measurement, and then that would be easier for everyone, but life is complicated and we have to be different, just to make us have to translate stuff from one to another. If I used metric all the time, I would be used to it and be more understanding of the size or speed of the object. Hopefully one day people will come to an agreement and use metric only. Until then, we will have to do the math or translate everything to what we are used to.

      @@Spanky8402 The world uses metric because everything is based around 10. It's far easier to calculate things in metric, that's why it's used in science. It is simple, and exact. Aside from the USA and Myanmar, everyone uses metric. Based on your argument we should forget motorcycles and go back to carrying sticks.

I don't think there is so much to talk about the comfort level, handling, weight...practically the value to upkeep this bike is more of a concern for scooter bike...

      It once cost me 1400 to repair a broken down Honda Forza at 24,000 miles or 3 years of having it. It was weeks after a 400 mile drive. All maintenance was done except there was a accident that I had that was the cause of breaking down. Took 4 mechanics & two of the going out of business to finally fix the bike. Cost came out cheaper as the first two mechanics did work on the bike but never charged me.

      I come from the same place of thought of seeing scooters as the "cheap" motorcycle... and I say cheap in a practical way. I mean for $6k you could buy a pretty solid motorcycle and just slap on side baggage for the storage capacity. I personally got a scooter for $800 and made it my little project bike. I LOVE the thing and now would definitely consider buying a Honda PCX150 for $3k... but a Forza for nearly twice the cost?? No way. Rather have a CBR

    • @barryervin8536
      @barryervin8536 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kawasaki J300 is basically a restyled Kymco, built by Kymco. I sat on a Kymco X-Town 300 at a dealership recently and found I was sitting so far forward I could never ride it comfortably. Too bad, because this was a new 2019 marked down to $3600. It seems like almost every scooter I've ever ridden has that problem. I guess the scooter makers don't really expect to sell enough scooters in the US market to make them fit the average US rider?

    It's great to see Motorcycle.com representing the female segment and views by having zero female riders for this comparison, even in a segment that has a large female ridership. Keep up the great work for keeping this a male-only activity. [comments made in a sarcastic tone]
    I would get the Vespa because it's the only one that looks good and is a lot of fun. As a guy, it's also the one more women will be attracted to. For people asking why get a scooter vs a "real" motorcycle, the answer is simple - automatic transmission and built-in secured storage. Let's see how tired your left hand gets from the constant pulling and holding of the clutch. For city/urban riding, it's much better (overall) than a "real" motorcycle (and that includes the Honda Grom).
