Two things can’t be overstated- how much I enjoyed this video and how much I love my 2018 Burgman Exec. I’m fully aware of all the ‘baggage’ that goes with riding a scooter (my Ducati-snob brother never misses an opportunity to remind me it’s not a motorcycle). But every ride is immensely enjoyable- from the scoot to the CVS to the long 2-hour hauls with some speed mixed in. Thanks for making this video.

Only these guys can “extract” the deep nostalgic melancholy of the unimpressive days of riding a failed scooter, emotional rollercoaster of remembering the awesome mundane… anyone with any relatable memory is in tears… absolute masterpiece guys, bravo…
I wouldn't call it a failed scooter. It sold reasonably well in Europe along Yamaha T-max, Honda Silverwing, KYMCO AK 550, or Aprilia SRV 850. Aprilia actually made a motorcycle version of SRV, called it Mana - which looked like a motorcycle but used a scooter engine and a CVT. Saw them regularly in Paris and London. Sure, 400 cc versions were more popular but flagships usually don't lead the sales charts.
Those three clowns are clumsy fools bouncing around each other nerves, the master puppet is Mr. Andy Wilman (Director and writer for top gear 2002-15 and Now Amazon Executive Director of the Grand Tour on Amazon). And Ryan's talent is all of them above.
Get a Tmax! Tmax 500/530/560 and Burgman 650 both has frame mounted parallel twin engine with CVT and wet clutch. However, the Tmax is 100 lbs ligher than the Burgman 650 and has a nimble sporty ride with almost 50-50 weight distribution. People race them in Europe and do stunts with it! and has been the #1 premium scooter in Europe for over 20 years. Tmax is like the BMW 3 series of maxi-scooters, while the Burgman 650 is like a Toyota Sienna minivan. LOL ;)
The creativity of composition in these videos is so good. I have a 07 Burgman 650 and it truly is an amazing machine. I got it for free from a co-worker who was moving out of state and wanted to give it to someone who would enjoy it. I have had a few bikes and none of them compare to the Burgman, it's a smooth, effortless ride that is just enjoyable. If they were not discontinued I would consider getting a 2022 model.
I have been looking at Burgmans off and on for at least 7-8 years. Always seemed too pricey for cheap me, used to smaller scooters... and usually the 650s for sale were a long ways from me. Came to the comments section to see if anyone else caught the reference of Patrick Bateman’s business cards. Impressive attention to detail as always with this video!
Absolutely! As per usual it's on point. The American Psycho reference was my favourite. And vice versa I'm imagining how the movie would be improved if Christian Bale rode burgman
After years of riding large (650 and up) motorcycles, and three Harleys towards the 'end' of my riding career (57 years and counting) I'm now riding a 2011 Burgman 650 Executive. I bought it with under 4k miles this past spring. Yep, they are still out there with low low miles, but they won't last forever. At 75yo I'm not able to 'throw a leg' over a large motorcycle like my last Harley, an Ultra Glide with a backrest (hard to clear that backrest!) so the Burgman works for me. If you're thinking of getting a maxi-scooter (defined as 400-up CC) try out the other maxis first. You'll learn to appreciate the level of engineering that Suzuki put into this 'scooter' if you do. The BMW 650 scooter is quite good, the Honda SilverWing 600, not bad at all. And Kymco has a 550 that riders go nuts over, but they all pale in comparison to the well-engineered 650 Burgman. And if you're looking at an early model, from 2002-2005, don't be shy about buying one even if it has that notorious 'dieseling' sound. It's a relatively cheap fix for anyone with mechanical skills once you know. It's called the 'Polish bolt". The Burgman 650 is good for about 75k miles give or take before CVT problems creep up, and it isn't a cheap fix even for master mechanics.
Esatto. Difficilmente acquistero' ancora Suzuki

Here in Europe maxiscooters are very much beloved, being used even as tour bikes as well as by local police forces. I have a 125cc maxiscooter myself for my simole running about town. When I was diagnosed with MS I thought bikes would be a thing of the past especially with the mobility issues I have. But with a maxiscooter, I don't need precise feet or to sit in uncomfortable positions, and I still have room for a little shopping under the seat as well which I couldn't with a more traditional style bike.
@@Sour75 Its about the size of the scooter not how much power it has. Can we stop with comparing cc sizes like kindergardeners already? Any idiot can go and buy a 1000cc bike its not like theyre so expensive. Some people really think their lives depend on how big their engine is. grow the fuck up.
@@Sour75 Many european teenagers ride their 12mph machines and graduate to 50ccs when they get their car license because they're enough to get around. To many europeans, 125ccs is a big scooter or effectively a motorcycle as a result. Keep in mind 2 wheelers like these are often the actual only vehicle they own with the absolute state of parking spots, short distances, ancient narrow roads and lower wages than North America. Unlike 50ccs and below it needs a seperate license and registration, not just insurance, a hoop many aren't willing to go through when they can just use the 50cc, take the train or buy a small car they're already licensed for and call it a day.
I have owned two. I traded in my 2005 for a Victory Vision in 2013. I missed it immediately. I bought a 2012 used in 2019. Even though I also have a different Victory Cross Country Tour, I will not let the Burgman 650 get away again.
I haven't ridden one and now I'm disappointed they're discontinued! I think since the marketing wasn't quite right from the manufacturer... this video should be seen by all, and we can start a petition for Suzuki to bring back the Burgman! Another slight problem is the price. I think it was about 10grand here in the UK, and no matter how good it is... that is a lot of money for a scooter! The smaller 400 is still available though.
When I see the Burgman again for years, all I want to say is: "I love you, dad." It meant a lot back when we couldn't afford a van, and he drove me and my twin back from school to home. I dubbed it Space Station One and dad just went with it. No way we would miss Home Base when dad came to the rescue on any hot summer days in Maine. Dad sold it to go for a nice Chevy on my graduation, but my heart still lingered for a Space Station One. I never want to trade my M50 Boulevard for anything but one of Suzuki lineups, and I know which one I'm going to get.
Nah, he carried both of us on Burgman, technically illegal to carry more than a passenger on back seat. Couldn't imagine how big it was back when we were young, but we fit like foxes.

I like the Honda wings but I forget why I decided not to get one. I know the goldwing is too big. Too bad Burgman was given up on. It was really about marketing I guess, but maxi scooter models never seem to last long in general. Tmax didnt, Burgman, Xmax took years to get here from Europe, and is the silverwing even well supported? I was sure another model or 2 had died in the last 10 years :(
@@waltermh111 I am a big fan of the Tmax, a friend bought a Xmax, I didn't really like it, and he didn't either, he end up buying a Tmax also. They are two very different scooters. The NC700X is a nice bike, not the most exciting but reliable, my Tmax runs circles around it. I actually prefer the CVT to the DCT. I would like to get the Tenere 700, really like it from a short demo ride.
@@waltermh111 I disagreed that the lack of popularity for maxi scooters is simply about marketing, it's a cultural thing. Americans simply doesn't have a scooter culture and look down on scooters. We don't like to commute on 2 wheels, only weekend riding for fun. To Americans, a high $$ premium maxi-scooter is not a status symbol vs something like a HD cruiser or BMW adv bike. Most riders don't even know about these premium maxi scooters have a parallel twin engines that are in the chassis, so the ride is more like a motorcycle and rides much better than tradition scooter design. Maxi-scooters never did well here except the Helix/Reflex/Forza and Burgman 400 (which is still available). Honda already gave up on the Silverwing 600 and put its focus on the Forza 750 and Xadv 750. BMW recently stopped making the C650, just focusing on their C400 with the traditional engine in swingarm setup. Tmax was imported into USA twice but never sold well. Tmax has been the dominating big scooter in the Euro market for over 20 years and has a great reputation over there. Here, most motorcyclists never even heard of it. Kymco and Sym have recently copied the Tmax with the Ak550 and Maxsym TL500. (The BMW C650 sport was a Tmax copy also). Kymco did import the AK550 to the States last year. It looks nice, but not sure how well they are selling, since Kymco doesn't have that good of a reputation in the US.
Just took mine on a 2400 mile round trip from Texas to the Colorado twisties. Abso-freakin’-lutly perfect for the city, highway, interstate, and the amazing winding roads. It even did admirably on some unpaved national park roads. Zero complaints. Plus, the underseat storage has room for my helmet, my pride, and my testicles.
The Burgman 650 Ex is no joke. I traded mine in for a Rebel 1100 and I have to admit that there is a part of my riders soul trapped in that beast scooter. It’s hard to hate when you go from riding practically all year rain or shine to summer and summers shoulders. Great video that nails the spiritual connection a rider has between themselves and a bike, that allows them to suffer the snark of trendy vanity enthusiasts and fair weather riders.
I bought a 06 executive yesterday and drove it home on the five north from San Diego for three hours. Loved every minute of it considered the rebel 1100 because of the automatic that may be where I go next, but for now, and the price, I’m pretty happy.
I have had at least 40 motorcycles and my last was a Buell 1125CR (which I still miss). At the moment I have 2 Burgman 650AN's. The older model and the last model. It's very efficient, luxurious, reliable and it has loads of storage space. Also it's fast and a blast to ride while you are well protected from the elements. Even tough I'm 62 I sometimes get the urge to get something like that Buell again but never do it because i have everything I need and more right here. Sad to see Suzuki discontinued it.
I'm 58 and just bought a 2017 that was well cared for although it has 24,000 mi mainly from long multi-state highway trips in the U.S. Hope I get many more miles myself with no major problems! Only thing that hasn't been checked is the valve clearance, What's your opinion on that? ✌️
Great video - BMW c650gt is similar - it’s a bike you buy to impress yourself, not to impress others. If you like riding, having a bike that is capable of working in as many circumstances as possible gives you the opportunity to ride more often. The business man analogy is a good one, the under seat storage, weather protection and comfort means you can genuinely commute and travel for work on one. I’ve owned a lot of bikes, all sports bikes and the c650gt is the best bike I ever owned. Don’t knock it until you try it.
I coulis not agere more. I had a pan european before my c650gt and the 650 is just better in all ways but cruising the autobahn. Fun easy to ride practicable economical. The best of the 10 bikes I have owned. Would consider swapping it for a new Yamaha 530
Great video. I once took my ‘09 Burgman 200cc from Cardiff-Sanremo, coming home through the Alps. Took 2 weeks to complete the round trip, mainly B-roads, 4000km with a tent, clothing and pillion. Very comfortable and capable machine.
I cannot believe I was so entertained watching a 10 minute scooter video... Laughing throughout and crying at the end. I'm in disbelief. A true masterpiece.
This video made me buy a Burgman 650 (non--exec version). 1 year and 7k miles later, still a great decision. I love my Burgman! The Burgman is not just business man stuff. I put a 65L cheap amazon top box on mine, and with a couple of throw-over saddlebags, I can do a full Costco run with all the cargo capacity.
I had one for 15 years. Kept keeping it in the garage as I bought and sold many other bikes. Utility and fun driving, made it hard to finally part with.
i had a 2012 Exec (the last year before the redesign IIRC). Loved it!!! The under-seat storage was insane. It could swallow up just about anything. Driven with some maturity you could get 50 mpg. The "manual" mode was crazy fun. Easily modded and easily serviced at home. Eventually sold it and went with a bagger...but I do miss it quite often.

my friends ask me when I'm getting a 'real' motorcycle (they have triumphs and bmw GSs and whatnot) but I ride mine 10 months of the year, and they ride theirs 10 days of the year pretty much. I love my Burgman 650. Its punchy, I leave everyone in the dust (bigger cc engines included), i filter though traffic (just tuck the mirrors in- with a push of a button) and carry all my groceries or my luggage under the seat (55 liters or so)...It looks great (to me, which is what counts) and it is comfy and spacious and so much fun every single day. Its the best part of my day most often. Just getting on my Burgie and rolling away into the sunset.

Ryan, This is The MOST ENTERTAINING video, (while also being very enlightening) that you've Ever Presented! I smiled all the way till the end, when you told us that the Burgman 650 has been discontinued. Alas...
I've had a few motorcycles, and the Honda Helix was one of my favorites. The trunk opened from the back, you could fit 3 large pizzas in it, and it would keep it warm being wrapped around the engine. I only wish it was just powerful enough to sustain 80mph, like a modern 300cc.
30 yrs as a cop. 2 dead crotch rocket riders. About 10 yrs apart. Both on the highway doing warp3 when they hit the backs of suvs stopped in traffic. So many dead cruiser riders doing 35 or less when whatever happend and their non DOT ball caps or bandanas did nothing, that I can't remember them all. Strangely, their loud pipes didn't do anything either.
I had a 650 but not the "Executive" model. I added a burlwood kit and a vented, adjustable height windshield. I also added foot pegs from my Honda Nighthawk so I could stretch out my legs while riding. The upright seated position is only comfortable for so long. I liked the storage under the seat. Enough room for 2 full face helmets. A kid I worked with had a Kawasaki Ninja and was making fun of my "Scooter". We raced from one end of the parking lot to the other, and the scooter left him behind. 🙂 I should have gotten the Burgman 400 because it was lighter and more nimble, but I found the 650 for sale on the side of the road and couldn't pass it up.
The last scooter shown ( 9:04 ) is a Suzuki Burgman street 125. Though it sounds like a younger version in the series, it was designed particularly for Indian market as a pilot experiment to study the market's wide possibilities of touring scooters which India didn't have yet. It's basically Access 125 with a tuned engine. But it gives more power and comfort. I've been using it for 3 years now. Will definitely buy a higher version of the series when they release it in India.

Yeah I too drive a scooter, {a 150 cc Velvet} and a friend of mine with a 900 Vn keeps joking on my "mOtOrCyClE".
My km rating this year: 2500
His: less than 100

It's definitely a motorcycle 🙂
@@cosiabuffo8527 Hell, I rode an Xmax 125 for over 7000 km in the last two summers. That's with several over 6-hour nearly straight on roadtrips, and while driving several other bikes on the side, my own bikes, because the Xmax is the family A1 loaner/workhorse. I have to rebuild the forks and replace pads now, and did a water pump and topend gaskets in the fall due to coolant in the oil, otherwise decent and reliable, a bit of a pain to work on.
Go ahead, rub it in! (that WE can't lay our hands on one!)
@@michaelscott356 Oh I will :D
But really, the Xmax is slow, has shitty handling and is a pain to service.
The only redeeming qualities are the ease of driving and the comfort.

Esatto.Scooter eccellente finche' non s'è rotto il CVT a 95mila km ,la riparazione sarebbe costata come uno scooter 400 nuovo.

Genuine question: You consider a 125cc scooter to be a maxiscooter?
@@Sour75 Its about the size of the scooter not how much power it has.

It meant a lot back when we couldn't afford a van, and he drove me and my twin back from school to home.

“Can you take it on the highway?” “No,,it only does 45 mph.”
“Where is the motor?” “There is none,,it is solar powered!” Lol!
Omg,,the stupid questions I get!
This machine will get buried with me! A great presentation of the ULTIMATE Freedom Machine!🎸🎸🎸🎸
69 yrs. old and 16 yrs. of the best years on 2 wheels!
I had a 2017 BMW c650 GT. I put 10,000 miles on it and the best gas mileage I ever got was 77.5 MPG. And that was in the winter time! And I also had heated grips and heated seats that if both were on high it got too hot to sit and too hot to hold on to. I sold it once I rolled over 10,000 miles and bought a 2021 Honda Africa twin 1100. I wish now I never had done that.
I also love the fact he was riding on older pre-2013 model. The 2 wheeled luxury car analogy holds up really well with those.
Older...pre-2O13....OLDER?😂 Ohh you must be young! Lol, say the old man👴🏻
@@57Jimmy Perhaps by sone standards. I simply meant that the Burgman was redesigned in 2013 to have a less "vintage" dash and a redesigned automatic clutch. That one he tested was the "OG" Burgman.
@@TheHarryChanne1 no worries, being 64 it doesn’t take much to amuse me Lol.
Yeah I noticed that from the beginning! I currently ride a 09’ 650 Executive and was wondering, why not use the newest model in the video 😂
The Burgman is hands down one of my favorite bikes
Hey Hunter, how’s it going brother? When you making a new vid? We are missing your randomness 😂
My dad put a sidecar on his 😂 was totally awesome
I'm rocking a 1987 Honda Helix. Been riding over 30 years. Love my Helix!
@@ScottWiecenski geez, man. Im sorry to hear that.
@@morningstarx5340 Don't be. th-cam.com/video/6eHH5jANmPo/w-d-xo.html
I've got a Honda 600 Silver Wing scooter, and let me tell you, when I need to go, it goes! Nimble, flexible, turns on a dime, manueverable (did I spell that correctly?). It kicks ass! Very fun to ride, even more so than my Yamaha 1100 V Star. Took me a while to admit it, but it simply is what it is. Love my scooter.
my friends ask me when I'm getting a 'real' motorcycle (they have triumphs and bmw GSs and whatnot) but I ride mine 10 months of the year, and they ride theirs 10 days of the year pretty much.
I am just so blown away by your videos, especially this one! I remember being on a Suzuki demo days ride, and a guy on the Burgman passed me when I was on the Hayabusa. We had such a laugh!
I've had a burgman for six years. It's absolutely amazing in every way except it's not cool. Like a van, perfectly practical but just not cool.
Sometimes not wanting attention is what I want.
Vans can be cool it just depends on how much shag pile carpet and psychedelic paint
I have a Kawasaki Maxi and tbh its the most comfortable ride ive ever had on two wheels. Most peoples first words are ,, "its a big bike!" because the expectation of a scooter is a Vespa.
@@bluejayfabrications2216 The more the better right?
Although, I get plenty of questions and looks riding mine :)
A friend of my dads has a scooter like this. He’s 85 and it allows him to keep riding and he loves burning up the odd Porsche here and there on it
My Dad is 82 and has been riding a 650 Burgman for about 9 years now. His previous bike was a GL1500... He doesn't miss it. 🙂
Wilco Zeelenberg (ex professional 250cc Grand Prix rider, ex team manager of Valentino Rossi) rode a Yamaha scooter for years and he loved it.
Half-a-busa .Lol . Very creative
Exactly. I was like, what did you say?? Then I moved back few seconds; many more times.
With a Malossi Overrange CVT kit the Helix can sustain 80mph
30 yrs as a cop. 2 dead crotch rocket riders. About 10 yrs apart. Both on the highway doing warp3 when they hit the backs of suvs stopped in traffic. So many dead cruiser riders doing 35 or less when whatever happend and their non DOT ball caps or bandanas did nothing, that I can't remember them all. Strangely, their loud pipes didn't do anything either.
The never ending humour that’s not framed as the key element of a scene is brilliant. The production effort here is exceptional. Thank you.
Never thought I’d ever seriously consider a scooter over a motorcycle
Then again I never doubt Fortnine’s ability to surprise ❤️ 🙏
I'll never think of CVT the same way
@Capt Shiny Why not?
FortNine has only itself as a competitor and it keeps outdoing itself. This is hilarious. I laughed more than many stand up comedy videos.
My Sunday just got better!
Going from muted to technicolor was genius. Thank you for producing the best moto content on the planet!
I’m a mechanic of 25 years in United States and I thoroughly enjoyed all your videos
