Due to multiple surgical procedures to my left leg, it no longer bends….ive been riding 2 wheels since I was 5 (now 67), owned, repaired and restored so many bikes I’ve lost track. I was a road racer back in the 60’-80’s. I had to sell all of my motorcycles and picked up an 03 Honda Reflex years ago and it’s been the best ride we’ve ever owned! Step though, automatic, comfortable, lots of luggage space (tail trunk) and easy to maneuver around. Easy to load onto carrier or the car hauler trailer behind our Class A RV. Thank you for this great video. Enjoy and be safe out there.

Have to agree. As a motorcycle enthusiast, i never considered owning a scooter until i rode one in the Philippines. Light and a blast to drive, and the gas and insurance savings are the cherry on top.

I picked up a new Burgman200 a few months ago, and have 1200/mi on the clock. It is slightly cramped feeling for me at 5'11" w/32" inseam, but it's not uncomfortable. It's everything mentioned in the video, and I avg 74mpg US. I've had it up to 75mph on the interstate with no problems. I split the difference between motorcycle and scooter by getting a Honda CTX700 with DCT transmission. I added mini floorboards, factory bags and a longer rear shock. I give up some storage space but I believe the DCT is better than the E-CVT and the larger wheels are better for the freeway. I get the same MPG as your scooter too. 70mph is only 4k RPM on the Honda.

Unfortunately Honda Canada only brought in the 6-spd CTX700...I had a line on a CTX with the DCT that some guy brought in from the States, but it was in pretty rough shape for the money he was asking, so I passed on it. I had an '18 NC750X DCT and I really liked it, but honestly, I find myself riding, and enjoying my Maxi-scooter a whole lot more...maybe it's the fact that I'm 57 now???

@@catalin1859 Chain is easy with a center stand. I'd rather do that then change rear diff oil like on a scooter. The factory keyed bags and small "frunk" are enough for me. The motor is just about flat in the frame keeping the center of gravity very low. 60,000 miles and still loving it. The E-CVT will likely grenade by then, at least that's what they say on the Burgman forums.

Hey Matthew I'm curious to watch your video here. I just got done totaling out a 2006 Bergman 400 scooter that was hit by a deer when I was going 45 miles an hour.
The impact totaled the scooter but I was only hurt a minor amount, but the ER doc said without a helmet I'd be dead and quite agreed.
That Burgman scooter was running so great it had 21,000 miles on it, and my only complaint was high oil consumption at highway speeds above 6,000 RPMs and the CVT tuning was fussy - meaning it was hard to get it to allow for low revs at highway speeds.
I hear the later Bergman's had solved that problem and the 650 has a more advanced wet CVT so it's not an issue on the 650.
But yeah I'm a huge Maxi scooter of fan.
I actually rode that Bergman 400 from East Texas to San Diego and back on a 4500 mile tour so they can do the big miles.
Maybe the only negative of the 03-07 Burgman 400 is the small 13-inch wheels.
2008 and newer have larger ones like a 14-in or 15-in wheel which is a better plan.
I did put a dark side rear tire (car tire) on my Bergman and that made all the difference because of all the extreme wear on a rear tire on a maxi scooter.
It's even worse than a regular motorcycle due to being so much % weight on rear tire.
After that wreck I'm now on a similar bike by Suzuki, a Vstrom 650 adventure Touring bike.
It's a very different machine more able to tour a high speeds but also less practical for short trips around town and storage is seriously lacking compared to the Bergman.
In fact I've just ordered side saddlebags and that pannier carriers to hold them.
But I will definitely consider and look for either a newer Bergman 400 or possibly a 650.
I'm a fan of simplicity and the dry CVT on the 400 Bergman has more appeal for me.
It's something to consider if you're looking at Suzuki maxi scooters and can't decide between 400 and 650.
Thanks for the review God bless and ride safe David in Texas.

    • @MathieuTechMoto
      @MathieuTechMoto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you, what a great history ! I didnt know about the different wheel size, but my 2008 feels really stable on highway, i don't "need" more power but sometimes i wish there was a little more, no oil consumption on my side !

I have been riding over 20 years with A license, experienced many different styles from adventure to cruiser. While I was experiencing different bikes I always kept a scooter in my garage. After selling my sym joyride 200, bought and fall in love with Burgy400AN K6. I owned for over 10 years, in comparison with other “regular” bikes my tours on same routes were always better with Burgy. Say a 350-400km ride, after that I had energy to walk-discover-enjoy the place that I visited without getting exhausted. Now I have a 250cc Yamaha X max, bit less comfortable than burgy but better road handling, better storage space, better cornering like a motorbike but scooter. With a 46l topcase I have over 100l storage. More than enough for touring, some times enough for shopping 😂. As guru’s say you don’t need a adventure bike to have an adventure!

Nice review. Very fair. I had a B650 and loved it for its power, storage and that with a passenger there was no apparent loss of power. But it was a beast to manoeuvre manually as it has no neutral being a CVT bike and heavy. The 400 is more utilitarian but lighter. Since my wife no longer rides with me it makes a better one rider option. One thing not mentioned. As a cyclist having the brakes controlled by handlebar levers is just natural and you can also finesse the brakes better than when using a hand and foot brake pedal combination. Better for emergency stopping.

I guess this popped up due to me owning a 650. If you ever get a 650, make sure it's an executive. That comes with heated seat front and rear, heated grips, ABS, and electric windscreen + wing mirrors.
Also the weight is no joke. I'm 6'3 and 130lbs and struggle. She's a heavy girl. Fully wet, she pushes 640lbs. It is by far the biggest reason people prefer the 400.
The Burgman 400/650 to me are touring bikes at heart. Their only scooter heritage is the terrible name and the fact they're CVTs.
I bought a cheap Burgman 650 as an all weather, all year round bike to compliment my sportsbike addiction. It's now my favourite bike ever and the bike I've used the most. Great video mate.

If doing a longer trip again, i would add a larger wind screen, heaver clutch weights to get the rpm down a bit when doing 75 mph, and i would darkside it. I sold my YZF600 (R6) and bought a J300, I miss the acceleration of the YZF but I'm much happier with the J300. I have back problems and getting on the j300 is a breeze compared to getting on a motorbike, it also feels much lighter (I'm pretty sure on paper it's heavier), it's easier to reverse out of parking spaces and I can get a full weeks worth of groceries on it! It's twice as economical, it sits at motorway speeds no problem and it leaves cars at the lights. Servicing is a doddle and tyres are less than half the price of the YZF. Ironically my insurance went up when I changed bikes, despite having several years no claims and both bikes being worth around the same! I doubt I'd go back to a motorbike even if my back recovered and that's something I never thought I'd say.

I have to say that making the front brake on the right and the rear on the left adds so much more control. Bicycle brakes are something that everybody knows. I really hate the idea of having to use a foot brake for the rear. a long time ago I crashed my motorcycle because I was afraid to use the front brakes in a corner. This would have never happened if my rear brake was in simply the left lever and my front brake was the right lever. I knew to use both at the same time but I did not know that front brakes were 70% and using the rear would cause you to wipe out, which is exactly what happened. I locked up the rear and flipped off my balance. The control that you have with hand operated brakes is a huge consideration. A windshield is the second consideration and that is a huge thing. It is noisy as all hell without a windshield. If only they made a scooter that could wheelie just a foot or two off the ground I would be happy. Why? Because nothing lets that slow ass in front of you know that you are going to pass them whether they like it or not. I hate these people so much for ruining my ride. I hate them and I want to do a wheelie as I pass them and flick them off at the same time. I hate cars.

    Hi, Mathieu!
I live in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area and there are a LOT of 2-wheel and 3-wheel fans out here. I see motorcycles, scooters and Spyder/Rykers all over the place. I'm looking at either getting a Burgman 650 or a Kawasaki T-Max. They're stylish and fuel-efficient. I work in Lachine so this would be the perfect way to commute along Hwy 20 during the Spring/Summer/Fall. I'm looking at a maxi scooter because I have problems shifting with my left foot due to a foot injury. I also found out that since I need a class 6A licence to ride a 650cc scooter, I can also use a 650cc scooter to take my 6A licence test from the driving school and the SAAQ. Not enough storage space for travel!
I have around 120 Liters of storage space on my simple motorcylce (two sidebags of 35 L each and a topcase of 47 L).
The burgmann storage is only a third of this I reckon.
And I can easily add a tankbag with additional more than 20 L and two small 8L bags at the engine protection bars.
